[IC] Lightgivers - Volume 1: A Feeling

Sylva

The small, lithe woman adjusted her jet black glasses with a single finger whilst looking up at the blue sky. To a casual observer, it would simply appear as if a young girl was watching the clouds pass. However, the woman was waiting; something she had gotten quite used to in the past years. Out of the corner of her eye, a middle aged male rested gently on the grass, watching with her. No matter how much Sylva got used to waiting - which had been a laborious and long task, - her companion Locus never seemed to. Even now, he impatiently jumped around, dashing all over the place at a pace that was hard to keep up with.

Waiting. Something they'd done a lot of recently. Yet every time, she found herself counting the frills of the long, elegant skirt she wore. Found herself readjusting her pastel pink blouse, pushing up her glasses. There was a calm serenity in the air, that made her feel at peace, yet the gap in her stomach made her skip two beats every time she looked up to the sky and thought she saw the beginnings of a plane. Yes - a plane. Assigned to a government training mission, Sylva and her companions - Tempus and Locus - had to help train eighteen students coming from all walks of life, congregating in the countryside, where dorms, utilities and other essentials were all set up to provide maximum comfort for them.

It was for the war in the south. The disaster in the south. The south required help, yet ordinary soldiers and a handful of Lightgivers could only do so much. The government requested more, and they simply had to fulfill. For humanity's betterment, for humanity's sake. Naturally, when the three were done, they would accompany their fellow Lightgivers and assist in the war effort, until called back again to train another new batch. It was a lather, rinse, repeat routine for them and yet everytime Sylva found herself praying that this batch would be the last. That maybe they could make a difference.

Then, as if the heavens above and the Gods had returned to Vaelia to grant her wish, a plane came into view. Sylva herself had never occupied her time with planes - yet Tempus, who had more than a passing interest, raised his eyes upon seeing it whilst standing up to better greet the new arrivals. Locus finally stood still for more than a second, his white hair bouncing to a stop, resting in random patterns atop his head. The two males stood parallel to each other, just behind Sylva, who stood forward; ignoring the increasing winds as the plane descended. Finally it stopped on the ground, and the hatch opened; they were here.

((No real IC rules as of now - just remember the rules outlined in the OOC post. I'll wait for a few responses from you guys, then continue - waiting for all eighteen sounds like hell for all of us.))

Valor felt a shudder and a bump. It seemed the plane was stopping. The sounds and sensations of another seventeen humans echoed through his consciousness. He waited patiently as the plane's wheels rolled along the ground, until they came to a halt. Without saying a word, he released the seatbelt and listened carefully. Finally, he could hear and feel sensations beyond the walls of the plane. He sighed in relief. The feeling of being suspended in a hunk of metal in the air was a wholly uncomfortable experience. He stood up and reached above him, opening the compartment that held his belongings, from which he retrieved his cane - his reliable friend. Experimentally tapping it twice on the ground out of habit, he navigated to the hatch of the plane, exuding an air of reserved nobility.

Johann

"Maaaaan, I hate planes." said the gargantuan young man that was the one of if not the first to remove himself from the plane. He massaged his neck rather gingerly. Due to his height he sat with his head pressing into the ceiling. He had a wiiiiiiicked cramp as a result and it wasn't lettin' up. Just his luck. The worse was it made his back and everything just massively stiff. It was probably since he just couldn't sit still on the damn thing as it was impossible to be comfortable in such small quarters for Johann.

Worse though, He had no idea what he was here for. Grandpap Joe just called him about something big and important. Really, Johann just tuned out the old timer. He talked WAY too much bro... All he really managed to catch was that he had a plane to catch and catch it he did. (after having to run at sonic speed through the city due to oversleeping until 2 in the afternoon.) He was just waiting for this to be all over with. He pulled a glass bottle of cola from his backpack and flung it in the air catching it. He popped open the top and there came a satisfying fizz. The best sound in the world. Music to his ears... a chorus of wonder and splendor. He took a quick sip before walking off the plane right behind a rather regal lookin' dude. Looked to be the high and mighty type, though... the cane was a bit strange a choice. Huh... weird. Whatever. Hopefully he didn't really have to deal with the guy. Johann had enough of people of affluence from when he was younger. He certainly didn't want a damn thing to do with them anymore. He was free from that life now. There were bout sixteen others here as well. Johann wondered what on Vaelia they were all doing here. What was this mess his severely old man had gotten him into? He certainly didn't want even more problems in his life... Eh, he could at least have fun for a little while.

Jev

Jev'ona Lekoniska was a bit frazzled by the hassle that he'd had to go through in getting his metallic batons through the Airline checkpoint. Thankfully, he'd been able to convince the security guards that they were skeletal enhancements by placing them right where his bones would have been. He'd needed to implement that smuggling technique on the way to the airport first, but he had been successful, and the rest of the flight had gone off without trouble. He'd regretted having to smuggle them through security, but some things needed to be done in order to keep himself whole; those batons were technically a part of him.

Now that they had landed, he was beaten to the hatch by two other people. The first one of them looked somewhat regal, while the second one looked more like a laid-back person. Judging by what the second guy said, he evidently disliked air travel. Standing up and taking his batons out of the overhead compartment, he put the metallic rods in the holsters on either side of his belt. Then, he walked out of the hatch, now starting to feel the warm sun on his skin, even through his clothing, which consisted of a green t-shirt and blue jeans at the moment. Taking a deep breath, he inhaled the wonderfully fresh air, scented like fresh grass, which soothed his nerves immensely. This was probably because they were in an area that had plenty of grass, but Jev enjoyed being surrounded by natural elements once more. Being cooped up in that plane hadn't been the most comfortable of experiences, mostly thanks to how tall he was, but partially thanks to the nearly-complete absence of any natural elements. By his count, there had been seventeen others in the passenger section of the plane aside from himself. Now on solid ground, he stood next to the other two passengers that had gotten off first, and smiled.

"Quite the nice day, isn't it?"

He was really going to enjoy his time here.

Cindy hurried off the plane, her ponytail whipped in the wind frantically and one of her hands was in the process off settling and untangling it. She didn't want to get in the way of anyone so as soon as she could she stepped to the side. Her eyes flicked from the floor to each of the other passengers, never resting for a second as though she didn't dare insult them with her nosy gaze. Gods the ride had been mortifying! She just wanted to curl up with a book for the plane ride and blend into the background but no! Her hands decided to wander, literally, and annoy the others! Fifteen minutes in she had taken control of them directly just to keep them settled. Sure, she could have dismissed them but that felt rude... So now she felt quite exhausted from the long ride. She'd like to sleep but she couldn't just drop could she!

So Cindy's eyes kept returning to her new teachers, back and forth and to the floor again and again as her curiosity kept her looking back and forth, waiting for them to say something.

Roy reluctantly wakes up the moment he felt their aircraft landed. He slowly opens his eyes and lazily lean on his side to see where they are right now, The boy looks at this window and saw the bright blue sky from the horizon and gaze for it a moment. Wow, I never thought I see so much sunlight before. the northerner thought to himself and scratches his eyes. Thanks, dad. Now I have to endure all of this, this is a waste of time if you ask me." Roy grunted and clearly was not a happy camper being here.

Eh, let's get this over with. The northerner sighed. Roy gets up and grab luggage on top of the cabin. He straps his katana around his body as Roy begins to depart the plane. He follows the fancy kid, the huge dude, the kid with some sticks on his pockets, and some hyperactive girl towards the exit.

Roy remains silent as the other gathers, He began to sweat and casually loosens his fur coat. It seems dressing like an Eskimo is not suitable for this type of place as the humid weather started to get to him.

Tessa

"Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-!" The girl hummed furiously to the melody in her earphones. Her eyes tight shut in a discomforted grimace after seeing the displayed time on her watch. They. Were. Not. On. Schedule. Seriously, would it kill those people at airports to care about precision? 6 minutes! They were six minutes late. Now she'd have to change up her plans for the rest of the day. And not only that, but also plan out a part of the day during which she'd make said changes to her schedule. And all that because of some dolt's incompetence to kick the pedal! Unheard of!

She stood up from her seat, eyes still closed as she went over to take the three small bags she'd kept with herself just in case of emergency. A girl has got to have atleast one spare set of identical clothes with her at all times if something happens. Two if she wanted to be sure-and Tessa certainly did. Following the others, she trampled out of the plane, pulling the plugs as she did so, to greet whoever was greeting them. Thankfully, at least they seemed to be there on time.

Baixue

Boarding and travelling atop a plane – that of a first experience for Baixue. She didn’t know what stood out over the other; the heavy disappointment that she wasn’t allowed to fly on her own alongside the plane to their destination, instead confined to the seemingly comfortable accommodation within the aircraft, that served naught but a cage to the girl who hailed from the harsh lands of the tundra. At the same time, it was the first time she was to be carried on something so technological, so modern, and any chance she would get to learn was bound to bring excitement to her. It was much more likely that she was more annoyed, though, having spent most of her time silently sulking after examining the inner constructs of the plane before quickly getting bored. She needed not such complex furnishings to enjoy the gift of flight, even if the rest weren’t as privileged.

Her inability to enjoy the voyage on her own, the feel of the wind across her skin, that unrivaled euphoria of freedom, had vastly irritated her; the window beside her was the only inkling and view to the sky now separated from her, where her hawk-like perception had estimated that such an altitude was higher than that of her usual capabilities. However, she had been denied her first sunrise, having a rather awkward view of the sun – so even then she had eventually decided against enjoying the view outside the window as a respite. Every new experience she garnered, however, had only served to remind her more that the world, after being shut off from her for sixteen years, was but vast, unpredictable, and wondrous, more than she’d imagined; while she was confident that she’d fly faster, she knew such heights were, at her current limit, impossible for her to surmount.

Close to the ground, the sparrow flied faster than the falcon; close to the sky, the wren soared higher.

The plane had come to a halt, and after experiencing a series of uneven rises and falls of the plane throughout her journey (she had to cross her arms across her chest to avoid certain discomfort), she withdrew her belongings, all tucked cozily in the sack given to her by her tribal family before her departure – one look of it had given her a moment of brief, nostalgic remembrance of home, warmth even in the harshest blizzards – as she briskly hurried herself to the hatch, where many others had arrived before her.

She felt the rush of excitement upon witnessing all these people of varying descents and origins, all too illustrative for her to decide which to notice or know first. All she knew then, was that the tapping of her right foot was not to cease any time soon, the fervency and eagerness within her growing ever stronger by the minute.

Rame

The girl stood from her chair as the plane came to a halt. She opened the compartment above her seat, pulling out Fecnial and giving the tool a heft before stowing it's handle through her belt, pressed flush against the back of her waist and hidden by her cloak as she retrieved her Instrument and what few other belongings she had. Just a single bag with what supplies and amenities her brothers had given her and a few materials needed to perform upkeep on her instruments and Fecnial; no reason to have weighed herself down with anything other than that...

Without a word to anyone around her, she headed for the hatch, not really in much of a hurry compared to most of the others who'd already departed. She'd seen planes before, those few times in the past when her brothers had taken her with them to barter... the 30 mile, 3 and a half day hike through harsh terrain and frigid underbrush always been worth it though, to see the village and it's small port, modest ships and planes offloading cargo for those who were either too inept or simply physically unable to live off the land like them.

Riding in one now... it had been quite different from what she'd imagined as a kid, surprisingly enough. The trip had actually been kind of...pleasant- being able to look at the ground from so high up, see all the colors merging and mixing in the distance... just like a bird. But to be fair, most of the aerial vessels she'd seen before had been mere Cargo carriers with limited space afterall. Nothing designed to comfortably carry people. She just wished she could've taken the trip under better circumstances, though...

Regardless, she soon emerged outside to where the others stood waiting, feeling a light breeze billow her cloak around her. "So...this is what grass actually looks like then..." She muttered idly to herself, gazing out over the sea of green before stepping down from the metal bird. "at least when it isn't covered over and frozen to death by a few feet of snow and ice, that is..."

"Hey, I thought the plane was really cool! They're really neat and stuff, you know, all sorts of work that goes into making something huge and metal fly through the air like that. I've never been on one before, it was cool! I already said that. It really is a nice day! Why does everyone look so glum and bored, this is super exciting!" The ones exiting the plane were once again subjected to an all-too-familiar verbal barrage; the short, pink-haired boy - Haruki, he'd introduced himself as almost immediately, though it might have been difficult to remember - had been idly chattering with a frequency that made it seem like he didn't actually require air to survive. He happily skipped off the plane, jumping down the last few steps and stretching his arms out with an exaggerated noise of effort before whirling to face the people waiting for them, He waved cheerily, his hand moving back and forth in an almost frenzied manner. "Hiiiiii~"

Cindy's golden hands took notice of the exuberant Haruki's waving of all things and waved back just as furiously, all four of them, and then moved on to wave at the others too, right in their faces. Cindy's eyes widened in alarm before reaching up instinctively and dragging them back down with a little more lumen. "Guys, I'm tired enough" She moaned quietly to them. as she held held two of them entwined with her real fingers and put the other two hands on her hips. Her cheeks felt so hot, she must be crimson by now! The thought made her blush more and more and more, she needed to calm down soon!

Haruki continued to wave back at a frequency and amplitude that one would think would exhaust his small frame. One would think incorrectly, of course, as the boy showed no signs of slowing down. "Hiii~' he said again, before approaching the blushing girl. "Hey, why are you blushing like that? You were just waving, you're supposed to wave when you meet people! Or do people make you nervous? I know my little sister doesn't like people, but she never really seems nervous, just like she wants to punch them in the neck or something. But I disagree with that! Also I don't think I remember your name, what did you say it was again?"

Valor tilted his head in curiosity as he felt something moving frantically in front of his face. It felt like... a hand? It seemed like they had no arms attached to them, either. Interesting. He felt a sudden emotional shift in his vicinity. This was... embarrassment? At about the same time, he felt the hand disappear from its position, floating somewhere close to the sudden embarrassment. Considering the existence of Lumen, he had a reasonably good grasp of what had just occurred. He allowed himself to smile slightly, before a loud, twittering voice invaded his ear canal. Twitching his eyebrow in irritation, he consciously filtered it out into white noise. He had better things to devote his attention to, like the sound of the grass rustling in the wind.

Sylva

Nodding at the new arrivals, Sylva stepped forwards. Clearing her throat, she adjusted her glasses, then linked her hands behind her back.

"Attention, please!" Sylva yelled, voice roaring out with surprising strength.

EDIT: i hit space and that sent this too soon LOL

Haruki spun on his heel once again, throwing a mock salute and then immediately ruining the impression with an almost singsong "Yeeeess~?" He, likely much to the relief of everyone else nearby, actually did not continue to speak after this, looking at the woman expectantly.

Hassar

Hassar smiled for the first time since he joined their little group. He was happy to finally be rid of this confining metal deathtrap. How humans found it comfortable was beyond him. Sighing in relief that it didn´t crash and condemn them to a fiery death, he quickly checked the daggers held in leather straps beneath his cloak. Luckily for him, airport security didn´t check for glass. Or poisons, oddly enough. ¨Great security they´ve got. Although I guess they weren´t expecting someone with my...talents.¨ he thought to himself before turning his attention to his dark green apothecaries pack above his seat. Noting that all of his items were there and in their proper places, he threw it over his back and descended to the field beneath the hatch.

Ignoring the incessant chattering of the kid with unkempt pink hair, his bright green eyes scanned the surroundings and took note of the woods to the east. ¨Likely where Volug will be waiting. Best place to escape if it comes to that....lots of plant life around. Perfect.¨ he thought, moving closer to the girl that appeared to be their leader, with a hand on one dagger and his silver bells jingling in the wind.

Osiric

Osiric woke up as the plane was landing. "Oh, we are here already? That wasn't to bad." he thought to himself as he began to stand up. He didn't completely dislike flying, but there were certain aspects of it; mainly the unpredictability for the passengers, that made his somewhat uneasy in the air. After he grabbed his pack and staff from above his seat, he went about checking his smaller bags to make sure they were also secure.

He heard someone talking from elsewhere on the plane, something about hating planes; which he could not blame the speaker for. He began to walk his way outside of the plane after some others had already departed. As he stepped outside he could feel the energy in the grass and other plants around him. "This is a nice place" he sort of mumbled to himself as he went to join the rest of the group after he heard someone for them to come to attention while somewhat ignoring the other going-ons from his groupmates, munching on an apple he may or may not have grown after getting through security; luckily they didn't question his seed bags too much.

Johann

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOI!!!"

Johann suddenly yelled loudly at the top of of his lungs as the lady spoke up. She had his attention alright, and his playful Ire. It was clear his wasn't mad just being... overly dramatic. He cracked his neck before beginning to open his mouth again. "Look, lady, I ain't got any idea why I'm here and just took a few hours worth of flight cramps getting here. So, thiiiiiiiis better be worth it or I'mma get back on that plane and kick my severely old man's ass." with that he downed the rest of the cola in his hand in nearly a single gulp and then throw the empty bottle over his shoulder. One thought it might shatter against the pavement but, it had gone just the right trajectory that while it was spinning end over end... it landed perfectly in the small opening in his bag. Quite the showmanship for disposing temporarily of trash.

Cindy

One of Cindy's lumen zipped out of Cindy's own grip and flew over to the ridiculously loud young man, simply placing a finger over his lips with a very clear message. Shush!. Cindy was still blushing just because of the other boy with pink hair and this just made it worse. She couldn't say she didn't disagree with her Lumens sentiment.

"Thank the gods he finally shut up..." Rame couldn't help but give a silent sigh of relief as she turned her attention to the one obviously in charge. Even having moved as far from the pink haired brat as she could, his voice had still managed to grate on her ears like a bag of nails- an accomplishment in and of itself, given she was more than tolerant of most sounds... like that oaf shouting nearby, his outburst she could handle just fine...

Regardless, she idly fiddled with the multi-toned, wooden whistle hidden on the string under her cloak, saying nothing as she waited expectantly. The thing was more of a miniature flute really... perfect for giving various different signals out in the empty snow wastes while on a hunt, and almost as good as a back up instrument if she ever needed one.

Sylva

Sylva blinked as the... male approached her, yelling loudly and getting closer. Growling in frustration, she watched the bottle spin and land in the bag. Extending her hand, her eyes flashed a glittering purple before the bottle shattered into pieces. Grabbing one of the shattered shards, she inspected it - before letting it go and allowing the bottle to reform. Certain she had gotten the man's full attention now, she turned. Tapping her ornate wooden staff - where had that came from? - on the ground once, twice, the sharp blue gem embedded in it began to glow faintly. It was purely for show, the glow - the only real purpose the gem held was... for combat, to put it lightly. "I am sure you are all wondering what you are doing here today." She spoke clearly, enunciating every syllable clearly, every t and with a tone like that of glass. "You are gathered here today to train. You are at this camp so that you may train your prowess with your weapons; for your Lumen to be given the time and atmosphere it needs to flourish and grow.

"You are not here for silly games. You are not here to fool around, and to slack off. You are here to train so that you may help save this world from extinction. If that is not suitable for you, please leave; because we do not have time. Time itself is limited. Time itself is working against us. We have a lot of ground to cover, and thus, we need your full cooperation. The day is still young, and we have things to do even today. Myself, Tempus and Locus," She gestured respectively towards the middle aged man on her left, and then the impatiently twitching man on her right, "have agreed that it is suitable for you all to... undergo some training and evaluation on your first day here, so that we may better formulate a plan to assist you in becoming the best Lightgivers you can. If you will, please follow me."

With that, the suddenly far more intimidating woman turned around and waved over her shoulder - walking into the group of trees. The beginnings of a forest. As she walked, she spoke; not needing to look around to know everyone was following and listening. "Your accommodation has already been sorted, and you all have been sorted into pairs. What you do in your spare time is none of our business, but know that if you step outside the boundaries - of which, you will soon become acquainted with - not even we can help you at that point. Pray you'll stay alive. In the meantime..." The group came to a large clearing. "Your examination will be here." With that, Sylva stepped back, and the middle aged male stepped forwards; dressed in a dark blue vest atop a white shirt, with black jeans.

"Hello. My name is Tempus. The woman speaking to you just there was named Sylva, and the last of us is called Locus." The man spoke slowly; and with a sense of assurance in his words that didn't seem too pushy. "We... understand this has been a very strange experience, and this is a lot to take in. However, we do have a lot to get through to even have a chance of ensuring none of you die in Auster. You all will be divided into teams tomorrow morning; the team you are in will be affected by how you fare in this examination. For example, we don't want any one team to be far superior to another. These teams will be banded together; working together in all of your activities and staying in the same dorms. With that said, leave that to us. What you must be prepared for is a battle meant to mimic the chaos of war. All eighteen of you will engage in simple combat; three battles with six participants each. Are there any volunteers?"

Valor grimaced at the sudden outburst of the man near him. It was disturbing the peace of nature, and his own inner peace as well. It was a distinctively unwelcome intrusion. Thankfully, one of those phantom hands seemed to quiet him, allowing Valor to once again bask in the beauty of the sounds of nature. He made a mental note to thank the young girl that he presumed was controlling the hands, based on their relative positioning.

His pondering was interrupted by the sudden deconstruction and reconstruction of some kind of object - a bottle? The sudden appearance of a void in space startled him, but he kept his composure. With Lumen, more than this was possible, after all.

As the trio who were apparently going to be their instructors gave an explanation, Valor found himself frowning. A mock battle? He did not particularly enjoy violence, considering himself a peaceful man. Certainly, he could fight if circumstances demanded it, but he preferred not to seek out conflict of his own accord. As such, when they asked for volunteers, he did the one thing he was best at: he remained silent.

Rame stepped forward from the crowd without even thinking about it, hand outstretched as she declared "I volunteer as tribute." Fecnial's weight hung reassuredly on her waist, mandolin on her back. They were gonna get right down to business... good, she liked that, actually no, she could respect that. No point beating around the bush, not when there's work to do; you slack off in the tundra, and you die. "Question though, how much force are we allowed to use? Just out of curiosity..."

Jev walked forwards, and spoke, tilting his head to either side in order to crack his neck, also cracking his knuckles as he did so.

"You certainly do have a volunteer."

He was ready to make usage of his Lumen Capabilities in order to do the best he could, and make himself even stronger in the process. Evidently, he wasn't the only one, as a girl had stepped forwards at the same time as he had with about the same sentiment as him, then beat him to his next question.

Cindy

Cindy violently yanked her Phantom hand back to her and shrank into the ground, or so she wished. War?! I thought this was school! With courses and majors and and and vocations suited to our Lumen! I don't want to fight! Cindy's thoughts spiked and shook with stark panic, would she have to fight? Really? She didn't want to, not at all... Her head was lowered and her eyes wide, her arms were pulled in close to her chest protectively. Was she panicking too much? Her eyes darted around to each of the other students, two had volunteered already! Weren't they afraid? Maybe she was over-reacting, oh Gods this was making her worse!
