Darius looks over and sees the captain and one of his allies engaged in a battle against a Myrmidon who has holed up inside a forest. Seeing on other hostiles in the area, he decided to help them out, especially after noting that Idei missed with his arrow. He moved over to a good position and, deciding against wasting any extra words, proceeded to open his spell tome.

Alright, spirits...co-operate with me... he thought to himself as he chanted the ancient inscriptions.

Move to J7 and (try to) strike at Myrmidon 3.

Darius fires his dark magic towards the forest in order to finish off the Myrmidon. The shadows of the forest make the magic harder to notice, and the Myrmidon responds much too late, falling to the ground dead.

Seeing as most of the remaining bandits were out of the range of his allies, maybe he could bait them in a bit. He should be able dodge at least a couple of their attacks. Though him being the bait for others? Talk about a coincidence. He went into a relatively open space and yelled to get the enemy's attention.\

“Nice job, maties!” Karik ran past Idei and Darius, heading towards the river to the south. Taking a position past the trees, Karik waved back to his allies. “C’mon, we gotta cross the river soon!”

Karik_Talk_to_Me.png

Karik took a glance to see Idei’s horse. The river nearby came to mind, and while it wasn't very wide, it would still cause trouble for the horse rider. “Hey, Idei.” Karik looked towards the man atop the horse. “Is yer horse gonna be okay getting past the river?”

Irritated with his miss, he tsks under his breath, scowling slightly. Not a beat later though, dark magic envelops the myrmidon and downs him silently, and Idei turns to see their shaman drawing up beside him, the remnants of magic fading from his tome. "Thank you," he says with a sigh; he shouldn't had to have relied on allies to clean up his targets for him, but he knows he still has a long way to go before becoming a master marksman like his father.

A call draws his attention and he turns to face the boy, eyebrows lifted -- to be honest, he's surprised he remembered his name. Shifting his gaze down to Kite, Idei spurs him into a careful trot closer to the river's edge to take a closer look. Almost immediately, Kite's ears press back towards the top of his head and his steps become more resistant. As they pause nearby, the stallion skitters back from the water's edge, stamping in agitation and snorting softly. "He'll have to be," Idei says, combing his fingers through the long, dark mane. "I trust he'll do it; he's brave, and proud." There looks to be one of the men waiting for them across the shallow river path, and Idei suspects he'll be coming for them as soon as he realizes they're within his sights. "You've fought well for someone who's never seen battle before," he says to Karik. "It's hard to believe. In my tribe, all boys are taught to fire an arrow from the time they can ride."

Karik reached towards Kite, careful to not disturb the creature as he put his hand through the horse’s mane. “Calm down there... horsie.” The Pirate tried to remember the horse’s name, simply just hoping Idei wouldn’t catch him. “Aye bet ya I can can carry ya across the river, ya majestic little landlubber.” Karik covered his mouth with his left hand as he let out a giggle. “Would ya like that?”

Karik straightened himself out, his torso leaned forward slightly as he spoke. “Well, no wonder ye’re such a good shot. Ye just point at an enemy and they're down quickly. Ya got some pretty amazin’ accuracy.” Karik tried not to bring up the little miss. Happens to him more than any of the others. "Darn axes have to be heavier than yer fancy thin poles.” "Aye bet you got a story with learning that bow. Anythin'?”

She flicked the blood off the worn blade as the bandit fell dead, spattering the man's face with flecks of his own crimson to match what he was losing on the ground.

"One..." She whispered as if speaking to herself and herself alone, as she stepped over the body, daring not sheath the sword- for there were still others about, and this blade would require far more lifestuff from the wicked, for it's baptism of blood to finally be complete and it's past sins truly cleansed. And more, it would most definitely drink... all she had to do was wait for the rogue to draw them out. Yes, yes, if she just stayed by the bend of the road and didn't interfere, their time would come soon enough.

Much to Idei's surprise, the stallion neither shies away nor acts aggressive to the boy's touch, simply standing still and letting the stranger's hand through his mane. It's almost unbelievable, given his usual wary temperament. Even when he had been growing up in near-constant contact with his uncle's herd, Kite would hardly let him come close for years. It was an honor, not only due to tradition, but also personal achievement, when he was finally able to ride the unruly animal. At his words, Kite simply snorts again -- perfectly timed, as though to scorn the idea that he should need to be carried -- and Idei huffs softly in amusement. If there's any way to get Kite to do something, it's to indicate there's a chip on his pride if he doesn't; he recalls how, when they had first arrived in Veritias, he would only eat the unfamiliar oats once he saw that the other horses were getting his untouched share if he didn't.

tumblr_og1qiyXXfW1vbmrpfo2_100.png

"I'm . . . not sure about that," he replies, a little subdued and caught off guard by the praise. Karik's is a response he's not used to, and Idei hopes he hadn't unintentionally sounded like he'd been boasting.

tumblr_inline_ofzyoxoVfM1tu2j7t_540.png

A story? . . . Nothing terribly different from what every boy in his tribe goes through. But he supposes that any of that is foreign enough to those outside of the sands that it would be worth a story. "Well . . . when I was just learning the bow, I accidentally shot one of the horses once." He winces. "Just on the flank, and the practice arrows are blunted and wrapped in cloth. No harm done, but that horse hasn't liked me since." It's not much of a story, but he's never been great at telling them. Turning his attention back to the boy, he returns the question with one of his own: "You said you want to go back to Veritias. Is your family there?"

Emilee.png

Now Emilee is close to Mandatte, using her staff to heal his wounds. "Alright captain, your wounds are all better now!" She smiles gleefully. Emilee looks around herself at the enemies with raised weapons and suddenly her smile disappears. It's hard to keep cheerful in a situation like this, but she still did. "Hey captain mind if I ask you a question? Why do you think people are evil? Why do you think these bandits are attacking us?" Emilee says as she looks at the orb of her staff as if the answer might be hidden somewhere in the magical device.

"Asking a question like that is a bit difficult for someone like me. I can't claim to know why people become evil. Perhaps they had a hard life, or perhaps they were just vengeful. I couldn't say. As for these bandits, I think they're just out for a quick sum of money at our expense. Money is always a good way to start feuds..." Madante trails off, seeming to recall something before shaking his head.

"At any rate, I thank you for the healing, and I hope I answered your question enough."

Emilee shook her head. "That's not a good answer at all... I've needed money in the past and I worked hard for it!"  She closed her hands into a fist as she looked up dramatically. She then relaxed them afterwards. "Sorry if the question was weird. I thought you might have a good answer since you are our Captain after all."

Karik_Tease.png

Karik tried to stifle his laughter, looking away for a bit as the Archer told his story. “Well, at least ya learned from yer mistake, mate.” Calming his laughter, Karik answered Idei’s question.

Calm_Smile.png

“Well yeah.” Karik pointed his gaze in the direction he assumed to be northwest. Sadly, it turned out to be southeast. “Aye’ve got some people waiting for me back in Versidia.” Karik looked at the axe to his side, raising it up to his waist. He toyed around with the flat, circular decoration at the base of the blade. “This be called a blade, aye?” Looking at it only made him want to get this battle over with quick.

“But Aye’ll be gettin’ back there soon.” Karik swung his axe over his shoulder. “I trust our little crew. I’ll be getting home to see the people back home.” Karik spun himself around, facing the river to the south.

Karik's shift in tone is enough for Idei to understand what he must be feeling. Maybe the boy's journey and circumstances are different from his own, but there's at least one thing he can comprehend. As he also turns to return his attention to the remainder of the bandits waiting for them across the river, he feels a certainty settle somewhere inside him. "I, too, am only here because I've . . . lost sight of my home."

Yells and screams drowned out by the roar of sand and wind. The terrifying sensation of being utterly alone for the first time, surrounded by vast emptiness, and not knowing whether there would ever be a where or whom to which he could return . . . it feels like yesterday. And even now, he trembles to think about the possibilities.

One good thing did come of Rayne's ability? to zone out during battle. She could take a look at the larger picture all the while she was still fighting. A strange thing but one that made sense. Even if she wasn't paying attention to her immediate surroundings she was paying attention. It was easy to analyze one's surroundings when doing so.

"Beau, we should go and thin out the enemies over there. We aren't going to exactly break through the center there. We need to flank them. I'm sure the others are thinking of this plan too! But, the more angles we flank them from the easier they should be to dislodge right? I think that's how it works. Let's go!"

Emilee.png

The sounds of the battle nearby reach Emilee's ears. She gasps as she watches a companion fall to the ground from the damage of the enemy's attacks. "Excuse me Captain," She says as she runs off to the rescue. If glares could kill, the glares she made at the enemies surrounding Candence would be fatal. Without a word she lays her staff on Candece and heals the fencer as best she can. When Candence can stand again Emilee extends her hand. "Come on get up; you need to show these fuc..." She covers her mouth with her hand, stopping whatever foul word she was about to use. Emilee clears her throat and continues "These BANDITS who's boss!"

Catching sight of the their mage rushing off out of the corner of his eye, Idei turns to see the chaos unfolding further back on the field. Their healer is crouched on the ground, the glow of her staff visible even from this distance, and in front of her, difficult to see even for him, surrounded by enemies as she is, he can make out the crimson of the fencer's hair.

" -- I need to go help," he says quickly to Karik; though their intention had initially been to cross the land bridge, he feels he's needed with the others, and no Nayavu abandons their friends and sets out on their own. Pulling on Kite's reins, he spins the stallion about and urges him into a fast gallop to cover the distance as swiftly as he can. Gripping hard with both legs, he removes another arrow and notches it, lips pursed as they draw close to the fray.

Glancing over to his red haired comrade Belros was astonished that she was gravely injured. Luckily Emilee was already tending to her wounds but he was not going to let another comrade die. While he leaves the wound tending to Emilee, it's his job to get rid of the bandits still threatening them. Looking towards the archer he grabs his dagger and rushes towards him.

"I... hate you all..so very, very much..." It was all the snarling verbal confirmation of life she gave as she pushed away from the healer and began to rise. Whether the statement was intended for her allies, the foes before, or just everyone in general earshot however, was any man's guess. She clutched the wound the axeman had put iin her side, still gaping open despite the one to her back having closed.

JJQ28EM.png

"So very...very much. Vermin like you can't even fathom emotion this utterly consuming... how infuriating it is, seeing you standing there, gawking, proud of yourselves. How frustrating this charade becomes." She shook, as she collected the fallen blade from the earth, but it was anything but pain or the unsteadiness of having been downed that caused the tremors, her eyes burning like the hottest coals out of a fire. "Watching you swing those blunt pieces of iron about and act as though you're something because of it, as if your lives ever had any meaning or ever will simply because you decided to fight for...what, pray tell?

Let me hear your cliche sob story; is your sister or daughter or wife or what have you sick, did some noble who once employed your service fuck your wife and leave you looking like some poor, pathetic cuckold, with a petty thirst for vengeance? Or did you just fall on hard times after gambling away everything you had and never knowing when to quit. On second thought... no. Don't bother telling me, wandroughts. I don't care enough to listen..."
Despite her injuries, or perhaps, fueled by not only the physical agony, only a futile representation of her lot as a whole, she had both the final last drops of a Vulnerary and her Rapier at the ready, casting the flask to the earth and letting it shatter, as she brought up the blade.

"The only thing I care for, is what your death rattles will sound like. Engarde, see if you can repeat what you just did... I dare you."

Hold position, Down a Vulnerary and equip Iron Rapier
