"Eh, yeah. You did for a minute there." The fencer got up and reached a hand out towards her gear. A slow, rattling jingle sounded through the area as the Wind Spirits grabbed firm hold of her coat's collar and dragged the thing- blades and buckler and all -over towards them. She'd taken to having them suppress the noise whenever she was wearing it, but now that the threat was gone and there were no morons to be slain, she saw little point in not putting them to use in another purpose. That, and she honestly just wanted to see to what limits she could push their new retrieval trick before they ran out of whatever ambient energies they primarily relied on and started draining her 's instead. grabbing a knife and prying it out of wounded men and bringing it back was one thing...but she felt there could even be more utility to it than just that.

"You were out pretty hard though, I thought for a minute or two I'd really have to let them do it." she'd finally managed to get them close enough to grab the jacket herself and sling it over her shoulder. Even despite how much it must've weighed, the winds still seemed to be at least partially supporting the burden, given the billowing sleeves and hem. She daren't put it back on though, she'd almost forgotten what it was like to not be constantly weighed down by gear and Brigandine, and she was going to savor this feeling as long as she could.

"Anyway, the others are just over there, probably interrogating whatever morons are left. Hopefully that means this whole mess will be over soon and we can finally leave this goddess forsaken place..."

"All I know is that if it were me I'd never forgive someone like that. Even if they really did decide to change." He looks towards the boats at the docks.  "Hopefully we can figure out a way to get back on track soon. They wanted us over at our destination for a reason, and for all we know something major maybe happening there while we're all stuck here."

"Oh, flying isn't really that scary. I thought it would be at first but... once I started the nerves melted away. The feeling of the wind is just... like nothing else." Rayne sorta paused for a moment, just standing there thinking about the feeling. It was one of the two she loved the most in this world. It felt natural to her, like one of the best places to be. Funny, her head was already always in the clouds before she learned to fly with Beau.

"Hey, what if... I show you sometime? I'd have to convince Beau to like you though. That might be a little difficult. But I'm sure he'd come around eventually. I'm sure me liking you would count for something. Though... might have to settle with a general "I will mildly tolerate you cause Rayne is making me." from the big guy. It's better than most people get though." Beau was rather picky with people. She never really understood what his deal was. Why he only ever liked her. No one was. Beau snorted in response to all this, being close enough to hear him being discussed. He gave Clarisse a midly hariy eyeball before settling down. It was clear at the least he wasn't going to be hostile.

"If you can convince him, then I'd love too - scary as it sounds, it also sounds kind of awesome.

You know, none of the guards seemed to have acknowledged my presence. I kind of loudly said I was with you during the fight and nobody questioned it, not even the important looking guy."

Karik let out a yawn, feeling a bit energetic after Cadence finished talking. “Oh, good. Finally on our way back to Versidia.”

Karik_Lets_do_this_Merce.png

Karik looked up at Cadence.  “I don’t see why you want to leave this place, though.” A bright smile appeared on the boy's face. “I wanna come back again when this is all over! This place seems like it’d be so much more fun if we could stay longer.”

"Yes well, maybe you don't. But nearly being killed by a bunch of two-bit bandits and having to fight through even more criminals just now has kinda ruined any appeal this island had for me. Are the local authorities really this incompetent? I've not seen a single constable or town guard, or any sort of peacekeeper here, and these morons we just finished killing were running amok like they own the place for over a week, Karik..." with that said, she turned and started heading towards the others, farther to the north.

"I just want to forget about this dump and get back to the mission, it would be more fulfilling than wasting our time with bandits and rogues. The sooner we find a ship that can take us closer to Kabumu, the better..."

"Well Cadence, a ship close to Kabumu may have to be what we settle for. There's not a direct trip from here for another month, and the docked ship is apparently a cargo ship headed to Romani," Madante informs her as she walks up, sighing at the end. "This mission seems to love throwing us off course it seems," Madante groans, deciding to lie on the grass for a moment.

"Huh... you're right actually." It was pretty odd how they just seemingly didn't notice. Maybe they just didn't care. Or they trusted her judgement in people. That'd.... be weird reason though. Rayne didn't think she was with this group long enough for them to be familiar with her quirks quite like that. Her people skills were good, but she rarely demonstrated them around the rest of the guards. She really just let them do the talking, let them handle it while minding her own business. She wasn't really sure what to make of this.

"I'm not really sure what's the case there. I guess they trust my judgement? Or maybe they were just happy to have another hand to fight those ne'erdowells. Either way I'm sure you proved yourself more than capable so there's probably got going to be issues bringing you along." she said, Clarisse would've sworn she heard her say something underneath her breathe, probably just loud enough to make out. though I wish I could keep you to myself.  Rayne put her index finger to her chin and leaned forward. "As for the important guy, you probably mean Madante, we should probably make sure he knows you're with us to stay at the least. Since he knew you were helping us for this battle but, you're with me for good now~ Well us I suppose. He's the leader of this unit after all."

"Strong? Yes. Invincible? Not so much. I myself should know that better than anyone after today. You never know when a friend or a loved one will fall, and it's especially apparent during battle. I don't know how I could handle another ally's blood on my hands because I couldn't protect them or they risked everything for me. We don't know what hardships are ahead and it may be too big for any of us to handle."

"........." silence. She just stood there in silence, at hearing his words. To think... all this hassle with being accosted by insane pirate captains, bandits, and organized thugs trying to bring the island's traffic to it's knees... and for all their work, they would get... nothing out of it. Nothing but another month to sit here and languish in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but a month of time, totally wasted when they probably could've gotten to Kabumu already, had it not been for the pirates holding them up and making them ample targets for the storm...

QrssKjV.png

"Deep breath... in...out...in..."  "I see, sir...very well then..." she finally replied, teeth clenched and fists bone white as she shook. Her centering technique was doing nothing to calm the rising tide of frustration as well, and she knew the Anima could feel it too, knew that they were feeding off of it, growing bold from it. The scent of burned ozone and subtle crackle and pop that filled her ears was evidence enough. But she did not halt them. Did not scold or reign them in. Eventually she just stopped trying to center herself altogether, just let it flow forward- there was no point penting it up anymore than she already had, if it really was all going to be for nothing.

Finally, when Cadence opened her eyes again, she turned to the three ex-combatants they'd captured. Within an instant, she'd dropped her coat where she stood, the air now visibly alight with static, eyes burning the same subtle ruby as Beef had seen in the forest earlier. She cared not that they'd surrendered, she cared not that they were three unarmed men bearing no hostilities. They were obstacles, as far as she was concerned at this point, contributing factors to the mess they were in. Or maybe they were just men who'd fallen on bad luck and we're just trying to get by however they knew how.

She didn't care. After so long keeping it bottled, it felt good to have someone to blame for all the frustration. Almost on instinct, she opened one of her palms, taking the wild, chaotic discharge that crackled all around her and beginning to give it purpose, feeding it more of her ire, as she continued to stare down the prisoners...

GgMDpZE.png

"I HOPE YOU'RE ALL BLOODY PROUD OF WHAT YOU'VE DONE!" the words came out of her throat as more of a enraged warcry than anything else, her hand flying forward in an arc not unlike how she'd thrown the knife. Within an instant, there was a deafening boom as a single bolt of honed electricity shot forth from her body, slicing a path through the air and filling it with the stench of sundered ozone. For a moment, it seemed headed on a path straight for them, but within the flash of an eye, it parlayed its course and the tree that had been standing only a few feet from the criminals burst into a cacophony of flame and splintered wood, sparks and ruined limbs raining down to the cobble stonepath below, right at the men's feet. Cadence lowered her hand, her voice little more than a snarling hiss overflowing with malice.

"Really. I fucking hope you are proud of yourselves. You're just another set of morons in the long line of scum we've had to kill, another bunch who have done nothing but get in our way. You'd be smart to get on your fucking knees and thank the Goddess, or whatever heathen devils you might worship, because if I had any say in your fates, I'd have already taken your damn heads off your shoulders and mounted them on pikes. Put em up in the market so that everyone can see what happens to Rogues when they try to go toe to toe with the Guard. Whatever penalty they're going to give you, you'd better be content with it, and carry out the sentences without complaint- because you could've gotten worse, hell, no, you deserved worse for the amount of trouble you helped cause, the affairs you have unwittingly meddled in... affairs of far greater import than whatever coin you might've been after. Worthless Wandroughts, one and all of you."

She said nothing more, Nothing more needed to be said. She simply turned and walked away, not even bothering to so much as look at her allies as she passed, and the tree kept burning. The anima prodded her about whether they should took care of it, but the only they got was enough for them to know not to bring it up again:

Let the tree burn. I can't kill them without commiting insubordination, but the tree was fair gain. Let. It. Burn.

"Sheesh woman. Blow up the whole place why don't you?" the mercenary muttered before looking at the destroyed trees. "And besides, the guy who set in motion this whole mess got burnt to a crisp, so you're a bit late for that," the mercenary finishes. The archer gives a glance at the man, indicating that he should probably stop pestering her, while the pirate decides to speak up.

"Truthfully this whole run-in was not part of the plan. Scion told our captain that all we'd be doing was securing a boat to get them over to Kabumu or something. None of us really knew that the Royal Guard happened to be around, not that it matters to you from what it appears," the pirate explains, slightly worried but hopeful that the woman wouldn't kill him.

There was not much she paid attention to as she left. She'd probably already pushed the bar too far with that display, the further she got herself from them, the less likely she'd be to take it even further. It was amazing, really, the difference in the clarity one got when their head was only partially clouded in frustration, not quite totally. There was... one bit however. Whether it was her own self that noticed it, or the Anima finding it relevant enough to relay, she neither knew nor cared, only about what it meant:

GgMDpZE.png

"....wait" she turned around, marching back towards the trio and stopping right around where she'd been before. She seemed to have changed her mind about the tree, releasing the Anima to go tend to the suffering Ent's pain while she dug further. "Kabumu? What the hell could that rogue have wanted there, of all the places he could go with his loot? Infact, no, tell me one even better- what was he even trying to do here, with that stunt he pulled stealing the master copy and ruining the backups?"

"Most of the stuff he stole were weapons and food for the trip over there as far as I remember hearing. We got most of it onto the ship before you showed up. The boat schedule tampering was apparently to keep people from showing up here in large numbers. Even for cargo ships, you'll need a couple dozen people to move cargo and such, and passenger ships can have all sorts of folks on it.  Scion didn't want to risk having to deal with too many people, so he tried to make sure that there wouldn't be very many when a suitable boat arrived. Didn't end up working out in the end as you can plainly see, but it was somewhat effective," The pirate explains.

"As for why he wanted to go to Kabumu specifically, all he mentioned was something about his guild needing them and that his group was way off course. The waters were rather stormy a few weeks ago, so I'm guessing they got stuck out here at some point and needed to get back. That's all I know about what they were doing though. Scion didn't tell us much more than that," The mercenary finishes, explaining what he knows.

As Darius rested on the grass, he remembered something that needed to be addressed: Belros' association with the leader of the bandits they just dispatched. He stood up, groaning out a little bit.

"Hey, Helena. I'm going to go ask Belros about what in the Goddess' name is his association with these bandits..." he spoke out before heading over to the spy.

"Well, now that we are out of danger, you better start talking. Who was that guy that that ordered everyone around and nearly killed you?" the shaman demanded an answer.

"Oh. Oh right, that was something that happened wasn't it? I'll join you, this is something I have to hear," Helena says, joining Darius. As she walks up, she notices the fire spreading through the trees and going towards the shop. "...Who thought it was a good idea to leave a fire burning next to this building by the way?" Helena asks before using her own command of fire magic to lessen the intensity of the flames until they stopped.

"Well... that certainly explains most of it then. Seems that they were stranded here just like us, they just took the more dubious method of getting what they needed to try and get away. Figures, we probably would've met and killed most of them regardless then, once we got to Kabumu, even if none of this mess had happened. That still raises more questions though- just what is this 'disturbance' over there, why is it attracting rogues and thieves?"

Just as she was pondering their story however, the Anima returned to her. She looked over at the trees, still burning despite their presence. But in the next instant, the fires seemed to die down as another force acted on them. She didn't have to ask them what happened, untrained and rough though her own command may have been, she still knew Magery when she saw it...

"Eh... yeah, sorry about that. Wanted to get something useful out of these three about the man who hired them... guess I got a bit carried away for a moment or two..." it was a lie of course, but the other woman didn't need to know it. Better she act as though she had gotten a bit carried away in intimidating them for the sake of interrogation, admitting she'd gone and recklessly set the fire in a fit of frustration seemed... rather embarrassing now, to be honest.

"I uh... told the spirits to go and take care of it, but you've obviously gotten to it first."

"You asked the spirits to take care of it? That shouldn't have taken very long at all if you were mindful of the flames. And judging from the scorched area, it looks like it was burning for some amount of time. You either didn't care about the spreading fire or you're a third-rate mage. Actually, even a third-rate mage could manage something like this if they dealt with it early. Concerning. I also feel like I heard your voice not too long ago, but I'll leave that for another time. For now, I'm waiting to hear what relation this rogue has to the thieves from earlier," Helena states with a frown, eyeing Cadence for a bit before turning her attention elsewhere.

Belros looked over to see Darius walking over towards him, and he wasn't too happy about it. He knew why of course but explaining things was always a hassle. He let out a silent groan before Darius spoke.

"Hey now, no need to be so harsh. I'M the one who nearly got killed by him not you." He responded jokingly.  "We were just in the same guild for a time. No more, no less." he shrugged  "That is really all there is too it, and if you couldn't tell I'm no longer a part of it. So you don't have to worry about a knife in your back. Ha ha."

The elder spirits whispered to Darius that Belros was hiding something, to which he simply rolled his eyes; he did not need to be told that, he figured that much out himself. He leered at the spy and spoke up again.

"The fact that he said something about a bounty on your head tells me that there is something more to this story, on top of other details, for instance, what kind of guild are you talking about in the first place, though I have a feeling I already know. Also, I don't know if you noticed, but I kind of got embedded with knives as well. I'm not going to doubt your position with the guild now, at least for the moment, but I am going to ask that you explain everything so your past doesn't end up coming back to haunt us, or at least if it does, for us to be prepared for it."

"This was the first I've heard of that bounty so I'm just as confused as you." Belros replied before thinking in his head. "Though seeing as he was gonna get the reward from Rico I shouldn't be surprised."

"Oh, and the guild I was in was a thieves guild called The Silver Raven. I would show you their emblem but they kinda took that off me when I left. Besides, even if I did have it I wouldn't show it to you, it's against guild law to show it. Hell, even telling you their name is risky."

"...well, she's not nearly as peircing as Meeyla, but...still, that fell apart rather... easy." even as she thought it though, she could hear the anima giggling like school kids in the back of her mind... and she knew they'd had more of a hand in this than they'd let on. It was all but confirmed when the giggles turned into full blown laughter as she realized just what had happened.

GgMDpZE.png

"You... cheeky.... bunch... of fucks. She's right, it shouldn't have taken that long... you took your sweet time on purpose!" Another laugh- damn right they had. her cheeks slowly flushing, she felt a familiar anger rise. But she didn't bother to do anything outward with it- that was at part of what had earned her the embarrassing rebuttal from the mage. She simply took a deep breath, focusing inward "this isn't funny...you lot should know better than anyone else how much I've always wanted to study, and here you see an actual mage, and the first thing you think to do, is conspire to make me embarrass myself infront of her. Well, good to know you had a good laugh at my expense. No, really, I appreciate it, traitors..." the laughing slowly died. But she didn't listen to any of the half-hearted apologies they gave. Just ignored most of them as she carried on... "Tch... third rate mage? Yeah, I wish I was even that, being shit at magic is still better than swinging around pieces of sharpened steel and hacking or stabbing away at people like some barbarian. Only so much that a bit of talent and a few dreams can get ya though...not like I hadn't realized that long before any of this."

"So, even though you are no longer part of the guild, you can't say anything about it? Why is that? Do you still hold some ties with it?" Darius sighed out. He didn't want to push Belros too much, but he needed to find out as much information as he could in case they had another run-in with the thieves. "I presume that they don't exactly take resignations, hence the bounty on you..."

"When I say I left, I mean I left. However, that does not mean I'll go against them. Just like if I were to leave this group I wouldn't give any info about you guys to your enemies. I still think many of them as friends it's just some apparently have a grudge on me. My honor as a thief is why I won't speak more." He paused before adding one more thing.  "I left because of circumstances I couldn't control nor could I accept."

"Is that right? I recall that Scion person mentioned that the rules changed or something. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean nor do I care much, but it sounds to me that the guild that Scion was in probably isn't the same guild you left. I don't really care enough to probe any further beyond that, but if your withholding of information gets someone hurt, you'll have to answer to me. Understand?" Helena tells Belros, glaring at him as she waits for his answer.

Besides, I don't want to drag you guys into guild business well as least as possible seeing as how we just had a fight with one of 'em. But I doubt we'll run into anymore. Plus, I don't think our current job has anything to do with them. I'd be surprised if it did." Belros chuckled in response to the mage
