Looking over the offered item, Idei nods, accepting the gift with a small smile. "Earth sow her blessings," he mutters with a small incline of his head in gratitude. Though he's been making his own, he is short on a few essential elements to complete it, things he can't simply buy and make when he's constantly traveling like this. Being able to simply appropriate from another saddle is enough for now.

"You remind me of the swordsmen of my tribe," he remarks. "I'm . . . surprised that you can fight, since your family is so wealthy."

"I am," Kaito responds to Karik's first question before continuing. "The two of us met some time ago actually. I'm by no means a noble, but my father did run one of the bars that served the Romani wine. If I recall, I ran into her while my father and I were going by to pick up stock. Not that I knew who she was at the time. She was out by the trees swinging a wooden sword around. I figured she was just a child of a swordsman or something and offered to practice with her. Wasn't till my father came back around and saw the two of us that he told me about who she was. Still though, she said having me around made for good practice, so she offered that I come by again if I got the chance. Some story huh?" Kaito chuckles a bit, recalling the memory.

"Wouldn't it be natural for a wealthy family to know how to fight? Maybe it's not the same in other places, but knowing how to defend yourself can be quite the useful skill. My mother was actually a proficient sword user, and was the one who taught me how to use one. I've been practicing for as long as I can remember now, and I'd say I could hold my own in a fight or two," Cremia responds proudly.

“Well, marrying one of the richest folk on the island.” Karik gave a small grin as he spoke. “Certainly quite far fer a simple son of a bartender.” The Pirate gave a chuckle along with Kaito.

Karik_Talk_to_Me_Merce.png

“Guess that’s why yer grandfather-in-law don’t exactly like ya all too much.” Karik shrugged his shoulders as he spoke. “Ya ever talk to him about it? Can’t be that healthy for the relationship.”

Good, good, it had all gone according to plan, the first time no less. It felt nice, that something actually did that for once. The shit-eating Baron was dead, his men scattered to the winds and his fancy ass lance... actually come to think of it, Cade couldn't actually... spot his lance, anywhere near his body. Perhaps it had broken when Rayne had struck him down? Who knew, who cared, she was just glad the mess with over.

5CEKNqZ.png

"Good riddance, Asshole... I hope it was worth it to you, what you tried to do here," and with that send off, she turned and walked away from the body. She saw little point in regrouping at the Manor however- she'd spent her whole life walking marbled halls and looking up at stained glass and holy icons, silk and canvas banners waving in the breeze. Setting foot in their household would've probably just reminded her of what she didn't care to recall.

Just like that Troubadour... her body having floated along the lake's currents and nestled along the shore now. Cadence nudged her over to her back with her foot, and was not surprised by the last, frozen expression on the woman's face. Surprise, terror, uncertainty... pain. Even now, so close to the victim of the deed, the mark on her chest faintly burned with the wrath of holy recompense. So... the old family legend hadn't been just a fable at all. The mark of the Lamb, the mark of a Holy Warrior come to purge the world of it's sins and protect the faith at all costs... to think she'd forgotten all about the more... physical manifestation of the Chains of the Divine. Ironic though, that it had only up now, when she'd had to face a supposed Sister of the cloth who had clearly thrown her hat in with a cause that, many back home would probably have agreed, was not at all right or just...

Just went to show how little anyone cares when there's enough money involved, even the Clergy.

She briefly considered reaching down to close the woman's terror-stricken eyes, but after a moment or two- she had to ask herself: was it really worth the effort? Would this bitch have done the same for her, or any of her fellow guardsmen, if the tables had been flipped in this engagement? She doubted it. And so she left the body be, and walked away.

"Your mother?"

lmpEg7W.png

Blinking, Idei tries to curtail his surprise. "I'm sorry. I'm not used to . . . " It still takes him by surprise, even after all his work with the Royal Guard. One woman proficient with a blade is one thing, but . . .

But the skill she had shown had been impressive, and it's hard to put out of his mind.

Belros's request was met as the rider swooped in toward the group, her wyvern flapping his wings hard to soften his landing. The wind buffeted the group as the Wyvern landed gently, setting the spy down almost tenderly. Myrdwyn unstrapped herself from the saddle and slid off the side of her beast. She gave Ecquis a scratch or three in a spot underneath his jaw, before looking around a bit. After locating a target, she quickly grabbed a sack off of the wyvern's back and hied off toward the river.

Ecquis made a sort of low rumbling noise at Belros and nudged him with his snout - not particularly hard, but probably enough to push him a bit.

"He was just a little wary due to my appearance. Not that I blame him. I don't exactly look like the friendliest guy around. Cremia's parents were more willing to actually get to know me, and after a while they decided that I would be a good match for her. Solomon was a bit fussy about it at the time, but now I think he's just glad that his granddaughter is enjoying herself," Kaito responds.

Untitled.png

"Well, someone has to watch the guy and the estate. And besides, my primary work goes more into wine-making than anything else. My father wasn't too keen on the family business, but I found it rather enjoyable, so I ended up being the one to inherit the trade. As for my parents, they're traveling around the region. They send letters from time to time, so I know they're doing fine. Though if you happen to run into them, tell them I said hello, alright?" Cremia responds in a cheerful voice.

"Taking care of loose ends." was all the fencer answered with. "Or just finding more and more wherever I look, I guess. There are some things I want answers for, like why the hell every god damn thug we cross paths with is either too damn insane or too damn stupid to realize when they've already lost. It can't just be the money, can it? For fuck's sake, what use is coin if you're can't even spend it cause you're dead? I mean, look at all of this-" she gestured around at the bodies littering the landscape with her Rapier in hand, blood still glistening on it's blade from the fight.

"Why did this encounter happen in the first place? All because some fuckwad of a baron couldn't accept a bit of rejection, that's why. And All these idiots pretty much died for nothing in the end because of that, just threw their lives away. Just like everyone else we've fought...they pick battles for the pettiest reasons, when they have the chance to surrender and run away before we've killed them all, they ignore it and keep fighting, and by the time they do take it, most of them are corpses and it's too late for it to really matter. I don't know about you, but... I'm starting to notice a disturbing pattern here. Besides, the more time we waste with petty fights like this, the less we have to get to Kabumu... and Goddess knows what those damn Rogues and their guild are preparing over there..."

Idei nods, glancing at the manor. He's rarely seen anything so . . . extravagant. It's so much larger than anything back home, anything he had lived in during his short stay in Arcadia. How does one family manage such a vast living space? It seems difficult, to say the least.

2mBYxb1.png

"I will," he replies, turning back to her.

eFxvYQA.png

For a moment, he seems about ready to simply leave it at that, but then continues, with a faint hint of a whimsical smile: "For some time, I've been interested in learning the sword. You're the first person I've met whose technique is similar to what I know. Maybe if I can meet your mother . . . she can teach me what she taught you."

Cadence would soon find something cool and smooth pressed into her off hand.

gcV3lkg.png"Shhhh. Now, I know what yer about ta' tell me, but just lemme talk for a second. Couple things I wanna say.

jlpiqtb.png"Ya gotta relax a bit. Okay? This is what we do for a livin', if ya keep tearin yer hair out over it like this your heart's gonna explode before ya hit thirty. And nobody's ever helped nobody with an exploded heart. So that's why you an' me are gonna break the rules a lil' and split this bottle 'a rum. I packed it special." The bag she'd carried over, on closer inspection, appeared to be a pillow that'd been cut open some time ago - it looked old, but most of the stuffing was still inside. There was a distinct bottle-shaped impression in it at the moment.

gcV3lkg.png"I get why yer upset. I really do. As much as I love a good battle, people dyin' is never a good thing. Well, almost never. But it's somethin' that happens, and it's a thing ya signed up to see. So ya gotta stop runnin' yerself - and everyone around ya - ragged over this stuff."

Belros glanced at the wyvern who nudged him. Did the draco want some attention? Well, he did just ferry three people across the river, himself included. He let out a sigh. He couldn't say no to him.

yDwxGVL.png

"Yea, you did good today too buddy." He remembered that Myrdwyn scratched him underneath his jaw so he went to go scratch him there. He really knew nothing of wyverns nor where they did or didn't liked to be pet.

The wyvern made that low grumbling sound again and tilted his head a bit to get Belros's hand into the optimum scritching position. His wings stretched out to their full length for a moment before slowly folding back in. After a moment or two, he shuffled forward, nudging Belros again, and started to settle down to the ground, tail swinging around to circle around Belros.

Did the wyvern really trust him enough to start to want to circle around him? Ussally most animals would be a bit scared to interact with someone they don't know. Or maybe he's confident that if Belros did try something he could fight back. Either way, Belros shrugged. He couldn't think of a reason why he shouldn't take a seat around the draco. While he was spotless in terms of battle wounds, he was still a bit tried after running up and down those hills. He waited for Ecquis to settle in before sitting down himself, leaning against the wyvern.

"Clarisse, it seems the fighting is over. Rayne took care of it." Emilee sighed, and smiled at the wounded fighter. She took a seat on the grass laying her staff next to her looking at the others. "I don't think I will ever get used to fighting. All of this blood and death sends chills down my spine I can't possibly be okay with any of this." She frowned until she looked at Cremia, and her eyes wandered to Kaito. "Do you think you'll ever find love like those two have? You know like someone who understands you and will love you and die for you? I hope I do!"

"I-I..." The girl paused. Perhaps... the rider had a point, in the end. As much as she detested the stupidity of all these conflicts, technically she... had kinda signed up for it, albeit while not exactly in the most rational of states. Just another reason to question if her judgement was at all sound, in hindsight. She eyed the smuggled rum a bit hesitantly, not exactly looking eager to partake of the stuff, and sat down a nearby rock overlooking the lake and the body of the troubadour in the distance- even from here, the gaping hole in the woman's chest was still painfully noticeable.

"Fine," she sighed "maybe you're right, though I wasn't exactly... in any condition to think straight when I got this whole idea into my head, joining the guard and all. Could barely even move without it hurting like hell or think about anything other than getting as far away as I could. That old crone knew, she tried to stop me, but I didn't listen to reason... all I wanted was a way out. So I guess you have a valid point there: I did make this choice... and now, I'm just gonna have to live with it's consequences.

That's the price of freedom, afterall...having to live with whatever you do with it. I gotta admit though, even with all of this crap that's happened, I guess this is still alot better than most of the alternatives. Hells, I could've just ended up a corpse myself, if things had gone just a bit differently back home... and even after I got away, not like I had any money to live off or really knew how the hell to do anything other than fight with a sword. who knows, if it wasn't for the guard, I guess I might've ended up on the wrong side of the law like these Mercenaries here... and still wound up dead or worse in the end, like the rest of them. So maybe I should just count my blessings here and shut up about it..."

gEWFISM.png"That's the spirit! Ya got this far, and yer making somethin' out of yer life. Just worry about what you gotta do and stop freakin' out about everything, alright?" Myrdwyn clapped one hand on the girl's shoulder. "Leave some of the worryin' to Madante. Ya got enough for yourself. I'll tell ya one thing, though, I'm gonna be upset if you don't drink any a' that. I packed it for a special occasion."

As soon as Emilee finished her question she she could hear Rayne in the distance. "Clarisse!!!" she shouted as she ran over now that the fighting was done. She didn't really spend anytime thinking on the words of Roman... his last words. Ones clearly of envy. He died as he lived she imagined. Wishing he had everyone else around him's success without being willing to put in the work to attain it. A pitiful man he was...

The worry however took over and she went to find out if her friend was okay. She saw that she was and her face lit up. She didn't stop running though and she she got over to Clarisse she dove on top of her, hugging her as much as she could. She placed her face on top of her head. "Oh thank the goddess you're alright. I was worried about you..."

"I've... never really drank before. Like, ever." she gazed back down at the bottle, before passing it back to the wyvern rider, "People in my family and alcohol don't tend to mix well- and I mean that quite literally. Once, when one of my sisters came of age, she decided to ignore all the warnings our parents gave her and took a few swigs of wine. She was sick to her stomach not long after that, and stayed that way for a good day or two. So... Sorry if it offends you. I just don't think it's a good idea for me."

"I... know that..." Rayne said looking away blushing a little. She rolled off of Clarisse sorta of realizing maybe it wasn't the best idea to just have tackled someone who was just injured. She flopped down on the ground spreading out a little. "I didn't mean to imply Emilee wasn't up to the task. Just... I dunno. I'm sorta the reason you're here. I don't want you to get harmed just cause I'm being... a little selfish. I, know you're fully capable of handling yourself just... I worry sometimes."

Rayne swiftly moved on to her question though not allowing either of the woman time to question her or to linger on the last thing she had said. "Beau and I saved you. I... suppose I got to take you flying a bit earlier than expected. You just weren't awake for any of it."

While leaning against the wyvern Belros couldn't help but feel something familiar when looking at the Romani couple. Like starring at the two being happy and safe once again made him feel immense sadness and anger.  "Oh yea... they're so similar it almost makes me sick just watching." He thinks to himself angrily before letting out a sigh. He wanted to go up there so badly and tell them how lucky they are that they were around to help and what could've happened if they weren't. But if he did that he'd only be digging a deeper hole for himself and ruin the mood. He wasn't going to have another bar situation but life really is unfair isn't it.   "Teh, I guess some people do get happy endings after all." He mumbled to himself forgetting Ecquis was still near.

"Good luck, Mr. Horseman. Hope you find what ya have to find." Cass waved at the man as he rode off. Something caught his eye there and then though...

cassfin18_by_ninjacyndaquil-db58009.png

"Oh, and that's a MIGTHY FINE HAIRSTYLE YOU GOT THERE!" He yelled after him. "SPREAD THE WORD AND RAISE AWARENESS FOR THE PONYTAIL!"

"Man, I'm bushed." Cass walked over to the rest of the group, only to sit down on the ground immediately afterwards. Meanwhile, he discreetly proceeded to eye the interaction between Myrdwyn and Cadence over something regarding booze, regardless of what it actually was. He yawned and relaxed, but anticipated eagerly.

Ecquis abruptly gave Belros a lick. It was an odd sensation, having equal parts dog and cat in it along with a strange quality unique to a wyvern's tongue. After doing so, he promptly plopped his head down in Belros's lap.

jlpiqtb.png"Aw. And here I was hopin' to adopt ya as my new drinkin' buddy. Ah well, we'll find some way for ya to relax." She reached out and retrieved the rum from Cade's hand, assuming the woman didn't stop her, and stuffed it back into the pillow.

SNIzbR0.png"What do ya do for fun, anyway? Other than stickin' people with swords and lightin' stuff on fire, of course."

After stepping away from the Romani girl, Idei is about to return to minding his own business when he catches sight of Cass relaxing nearby, watching the others milling about. Intrigued and glad to see that the bard appears to be unharmed, Idei makes his way over to him, boots crunching softly in the wet grass.

"Tired?" There's a hint of rare lightness to his voice as he approaches. "I'm glad to see you're not hurt. I didn't see much of you during the fight."

A smile grew back onto Belros' face after the wyvern's lick. For some reason he just couldn't be anger or sad around the guy.  "I guess instead of being jealous of the two, I should be happy for them..." He his hand on Ecquis' head before scratching behind the wyvern's ears.  "Besides, being angry or sad all the time is something neither of us right, Shadow Savior?"
