"Fool a nomad once, shame on you. Fool us twice . . . "

He steps up, amused at having overheard Cass' muttering, finally finished with testing his new bow. The man is part of the Royal Guard now, with a salary, and he still thinks like this? These jingling coins really are worth a lot to some people, then.

But he's more interested in what the merchant tells him. "Can I come with you?" he asks. "I wouldn't mind looking at these instruments."

After a bit of wandering, Cadence eventually finds her way to the alleyway with the poisons shop. Along the way, she encountered a variety of traders and merchant, human and manakete alike. One such trader seemed to be selling threads that reminded her of her own newly fashioned coat, and they seemed to be doing rather well. When Cadence went into the shop, she found the shopkeeper and a cloaked Belros.

"Oh, your from around here? That's cool. I've never known anyone from Z'ark before." Rayne mused completely failing to actually answer the question. She seemed more preoccupied on some thought in her head as she stared off into space for quite a few moments.

Suddenly she just starting filling the silence with words. "Oooooo. I wonder what they are like. Do you have siblings? How many... 1 or 2? Maybe 7? Hmmm. I bet none of them are as cute as you though. Certainly none as good at guard-guarding." her sudden outburst seemed to be all the asnwer Clarisse was going to get as the Peg knight kept spouting out thoughts about the possibility.

"..." the young woman stood in silence, for a moment. Who would she find already there, but one particular rogue with a habit of pissing off other thieves. Even with his face covered by that shoddy hood, he was wearing the same damn outfit and she would've recognized that same, nigh damnably blaring blue hair and eyes anywhere. Honestly, who did he think he was fooling?

gS8A5U7.png

"well, didn't expect to find you here." she said, approaching the counter beside Belros, "You seemed to have no trouble finding this place. Why am I not surprised?" with that said, she reached into the breast of her coat and retrieved 800 vespers and the Iron Knife after glancing at one of the display cases, turning to the shopkeep "I'll take a poison knife. I can offer this iron knife too, if you accept trade-ins. It's still in pretty good condition." before going right back to belros "and I've got to say, this is the single laziest disguise I've ever seen in my life. I don't know why you're trying to hide your face like this, but if someone already knows what you look like, wearing the exact same cloths and gear you always do isn't the best idea."

"No, not really. If I may inquire, what is this place you want to visit?" Darius spoke out. While it was not entirely true, he could go visit someplace to eat, but as for practical needs, he had everything he would need.

Clarisse had been somewhat expecting the outburst. Just a thing that Rayne does, it seemed.

"Yeah, I've got siblings - I think 5, unless Mother and Father were busy while I've been gone. I'm the oldest though. Well, tied for that with my brother... So I take it that means yes?"

"Well, a few years ago I overheard some professors talking about some interesting applications of magic being used by various merchants in Z'ark. Rumor has it that it's actually run by a few manaketes, so since we're here, I wanted to at least try and find the place. Though I am surprised that the thing about merchants and manaketes turned out to be true. Guess that's what happens when you don't leave home to travel," Helena finishes, thinking about her travels briefly. "Are you at all interested in going?"

"Hmmmm.... I suppose that's somewhat useful. Anyhow, pleasure doing business." He said to the shop owner disappointingly before Cadence came up to them. Great, the one time he'd rather be left alone people start coming. Why, was she even down here in the first place? To buy some poison? Belros never took her for the poison type.

"Why does my 'lazy disguise', as you put it, concern you? Look, now is not the time nor place to be asking questions. I suggest you do what you came here to do and leave. If not for me, then for yourself."

"Alright then. Excuse me, but do you happen to know about any magical experiments around here?" she asks the shopkeeper.

"Magical experiments? Oh, you must be talking about the merchant institute. Well that's what we call it anyways. They run a host of experiments there on new transportation and the like. But yes, that's probably the place you're looking for. It's at the eastern side of the town, and the building is quite large. You shouldn't be able to miss it," he answers.

Jasmine.png

"Thank you very much. Now then, let's see if they're accepting visitors," she chirps as the pair go towards the east side of the merchant town. Walking through and looking, the pair notes that everywhere they look has some sort of shop or stall or some such, though parks and such can be found on occasion. After a fair bit of walking, they eventually found the institute building. In front of it were two bulky looking men who appeared to be guards.

"You two, what business do you have here?"

"Oh really? Doesn't concern me? Well I thought it would, considering you're the one whose apparent reputation nearly got not only yourself, but nearly a few others among our party killed by those damn rogues. Oh, or maybe you just want me to play dumb and brush this whole thing as not suspicious. You know; Despite all the crap you told us after we cleaned up that mess, which you, might I add, had only made bigger with whatever you'd done to piss literally everyone around us off?"

She would've gone on, but the Anima stopped her. And as the voices of the spirits filled her ears, all she could do was stand there and glare at the man, before shaking her head and turning away.

gS8A5U7.png

"Tch, is that so? Fine then, rogue, whatever. I don't care. Whatever you intend to do, trying to poke around about this guild of yours, just try to avoid dragging anyone else down with you this time. I and the others have better things to do with our time than clean up the messes of a former criminal. And just fair warning, if you do drag them into it and anyone dies cause of you and whatever you did in the past, your little guild won't have a chance to finish you off."

She still glared right at belros. There was a momentary flash of crimson in her eyes and a sharp spike in the surrounding air temperature, a few strands of hair beginning to rise with some unknown pressure as she gave that warning. Almost as if the very space around her would combust. Soon enough though, the glow and the raw heat faded alike as she turned her attention back to the shopkeep, flashing him a smile as she spoke,

Mp7JnP7.png

"Oh, and sorry you had to listen to all of this, sir. I just wanted to make sure my acquaintance here understood a few things. About that poison knife though?"

4oYKY6N.png

"Really!? AAAAAAH! I'm the oldest too! I have 7 sisters though. There's 8 of us in total. Don't have any brothers, always wanted one though. Seems the Marigolds are prone to having loads of daughters though. Always have been according to my mother. She was in a set of 14 apparently. She was the oldest herself." she rambled. still not really answering the question. She seemed to be wandering off however, despite not having any idea where Clarisse's home was actually located. So it was safe to say she was going with.

Clarisse taps Rayne on the shoulder and redirects her in the proper direction.

"It's this way... huh, and I thought had a lot of siblings. Most of them are probably away for some reason or another, but it's worth checking."

"Oh, hi Idei, fancy seein' ya here, ha-ha..." Cass laughed as Idei approached. Blast, and just when he was about to strike a conversation with the Manakete, totally. Instead he nodded to the dragon before turning to Idei.

cassfin_by_ninjacyndaquil-dazzp1r.png

"Thanks, we'll be off then." He says and starts heading towards the town center. "So Idei, ever imagine we'd get to see a Manakete out of all things? Not even I've ever seen one. It's a real sight."

Rayne turned around to follow Clarisse without much of a fuss. She just absentmindedly kept talking. "Oh yeah, I do have a lot. The youngest are all quadruplets though so it makes sense why I have so many. A lot of them are younger still so they are probably still at home with mom. Probably all still learning to be part of the family business as they grow older."

"Alright, here you are." Cadence said as she subtracted the appropriate amount of coin in her hand and placed the 530 on the counter beside the Iron Knife, taking the Poison one in exchange "By the way, I was wondering: what do you use for your poisons? Nightshade, Hemlock, Arsenic, maybe Strychnine? perhaps the venom of a certain snake or other exotic animal? Or do you just concoct your own formulas out of many different ingredients? I could understand if you don't want to answer though."

Clarisse and Rayne went off for a little while, but the actual trip didn't take very long. Soon, the pair came across a rather nice house close to the sea. Clarisse goes up and knocks on the door, trying to see if anyone is around. After a small pause, someone answers the door.

Clarbro.png

"Is this about the incoming order. We've been waiting for almost a week and-" the man pauses before taking a look at the people behind the door. "Clarisse! I certainly didn't expect to see you back yet. How are you," he says in an excited voice, taking her into an embrace.

-----------------------------------

Following Percival's directions, the pair wind up in the center of the square, where they find a group of various musicians having a performance. The music itself is quite nice, and many of the people around have some sort of instrument on their person. On the side, several stands with an assortment of musical supplies seem to be present, though they seem to be packing up.

-----------------------------------

"I get most of my goods through a supplier, so I couldn't tell you exactly what poison is in them. Sorry," the man shrugs.

"A . . . manakete? Is that what he is?"

Idei glances back over his shoulder at the man as they head towards the center of town, as if hardly able to believe that a human being could turn into a dragon at a moment's notice. That kind of creature -- transporting merchant goods? It's such a strange thought that he nearly laughs.

His thoughts brighten upon reaching the place the man had pointed them. The town square boasts song and music, and many of these instruments are ones he's never seen before either. Curious, he strays up near one of the stands. "You should hurry," he remarks, looking over the various wares. "They look like they're leaving."

"Caleb! I was worried you'd be out on business, I'm glad you're here." Clarisse says, returning her twin's hug. "I'm pretty good. There was a bit of trouble back on Irvetos, but nothing that we couldn't handle. How've you been since I left?"

"Eh, it's fine, man. You just sell the stuff, not make it. No big deal," the girl shrugged, though she wasn't quite done yet. Biden's words still echoed in her mind about the seedy nature of the shop and the nobleman. Though in truth, she was more curious than anything else- father had... dabbled in a few alchemical pursuits, and she was fairly certain smitty had too. Even if it wasn't strictly magical in nature, the art had always interested her a little.

"What's your supplier's name though, if ya don't mind me asking? Who knows, I might have even heard of them before."

"Decent, all things considered. Handling a few things here and there and waiting on some shipments. We were supposed to be shipping off some goods to Alios, but we're still waiting for them to show up," Caleb replies before noticing Clarisse's friend. "So, who is this that you brought with you?"

-----------------------------------

"Oh? You two don't look like locals," the woman packing up instruments noted as Cass and Idei ran towards her hoping to buy some instruments. "The concert here is ending soon, and most of the buyers have gone elsewhere, so us merchants have to clear out for the next block. If you'd like, you could follow me to my shop," the woman remarks in a rather pleasant voice. After following her to the shop, she went behind the counter and glanced at the two men. On the tabletop, a lustrous green orb sat in a rather ornate stand. "So, do you two have anything specific you're looking for?"

-----------------------------------

"I just buy from whoever sells the cheapest stuff. I don't pay much attention to who the suppliers are myself. Sorry," the man frowns. "If you don't have any other business here, you can leave."

"Eh, alright, alright. I can take a hint." Cade sighed, turning and walking out of the shop. Rather disappointing, that conversation was, both for the sake of curiosity and intelligence gathering, but she hadn't much felt like pushing the subject. Besides, these alleys weren't exactly the best places to hang around. Well, at least she'd finally replaced that piss-ant knife, so that was good.

gS8A5U7.png

"Well, not like I got much else to do now. Might as well head back and wait for them." and with that, she set of, retracing the steps she'd taken from the docks to here...her handy still ready and waiting near her rapier, just encase.

Yes, just encase...

Rayne watched as the two siblings hugged. It reminded her once again just how much she was missing home. She hadn't seen her sisters or her mother in years now. It felt like forever though. She didn't want to interrupt their reunion so she just hummed a familiar little tune to herself as she waited. Had she not been quite as homesick, she might've have been much more forward in this situation, but the feeling kept her grounded. She knew she'd not want such a moment like this to be ruined for her. Clarisse would've noted that at least from her perspective Rayne was being uncharacteristically quiet. Though this was more or less how Rayne was around other people. She never knew why she'd always been comfortable around Clarisse. So much so that she was never really aware of the fact.

and theeeeeeeeen he asked about her. "Eep!" Rayne let out a shrill little scream. She'd been spacing out thinking about home after all, so the sudden shift of attention onto her scared her. She jumped behind Clarisse mostly out of reaction before realizing she was okay and stepping back out from behind her. She brushed herself off and puffed out her chest trying to appear as big as she could, and pretend like what just happened never happened. She didn't answer herself though.
