"So what, we gotta do something about it? Who's this bloke to us anyways?" Cass crossed his hands at Cadence's story. He was just about to start whistling his whistle at people and whatnot when she came bearing news of this apparently shocking turn of events. He also wasn't really thrilled about going to guard someone's manor because we all know what happened last time they did that-a battle. Granted they did get lotsa wine from it....so maybe it was worth it?

cassfin4_by_ninjacyndaquil-db02ts8.png

"Nah, wait, I changed my mind." He suddenly claps his hands and puts the whistle away into his pouch. "I need to get a bigger pouch. Also, where do we go from here? You probably need to go gather everyone else too, right, so just point us. Can't really wait to start saving this person's life, it'll be so rewarding! Right Idei?"

"Head up north, towards the outskirts of town. The shops there begin to thin out and there should be a few estates beginning to pop up the further you go; the hooded dude should be waiting somewhere around there on the main avenue; we'll be back there once we find everyone else."

"And exactly when will you be staying? I can't afford to have you traveling around all the time as you please while I have to handle the business. Do you really think that whatever you're doing is more important than our family and its business?" Clarisse's mom retorts in an increasingly frustrated tone.

The tone was getting increasingly tense, and increasingly unnerving. Rayne wasn't exactly expecting a family feud. Absent-mindedly, Rayne's hand reached out to find Clarisse's. She grabbed onto it out of instinct really. Perhaps it made her feel safer for some reason. But Clarisse would feel her squeezing it in hers. Her hand was smaller and yet somehow she enveloped most of Clarisse's in hers.

Rayne couldn't help but feel that maybe this would be her mother's reaction if she ever returned home. Except, maybe it'd be worse. After all, she never told her mother she was leaving.

Clarisse notices Rayne's nervousness, and gives her an apologetic look - she'd not expected the visit would end up like this. She also squeezes her hand, assuming that Rayne hadn't removed hers yet.

"I didn't say it was. I've barely been gone for six months - unless something terrible happens to you, I won't be needed for years. Besides that, like Dad said when I left - it's good to build personal relations with potential trade partners, and to know the places personally. Thirdly - I've been helping out Royal Guards, in particular, so I'd say from a legal standpoint it is important."

Clarisse decided to leave out the more personal reasons for not wanting to stay at home - her mother was generally a more logical woman than an emotional one, and thus an appeal to logic would be more effective. She hoped.

"And what if you were to get hurt? What if-" she began again before getting cut off.

Clarbro.png

"Mother that's enough. Even as merchants we have to deal with hostile situations. At least with the Guards she'll be accompanied by capable fighters. And besides, she has a point. She's clearly managed to find great friends at the very least, and I've been handling business around here pretty well I'd think. Unless you think I'm sub-par," he asks his mother.

PrelimClarmom.png

"That wasn't what I...ugh," Clarisse's mom sighs in defeat. "So you really have no intention to stay just yet. Is that right?" she decides to ask one last time.

"Very well. Just make sure you stay safe alright?" Clarisse's mom sighs in defeat before going further into the house. At that, Caleb leads Clarisse and Rayne back outside.

Clarbro.png

"Well, its been good to see you again sis, even if there was a bit of drama. I'm going to be setting up some stuff for a shipment that I'm overseeing to Alios. That ship doesn't leave till later tonight, so if you need me for anything, you and your friend can come by," Caleb says before going back inside.

"It was good to see you too. Try to make sure Mom doesn't get too depressed about this, alright? And don't overwork yourself." Clarisse says to her brother, every bit the concerned sibling. She gives him another hug before he heads back inside.

Once he's inside, she turns to Rayne. "Sorry - I wasn't expecting all that. Thought Mom wouldn't be here, or at least wouldn't fight so hard after we convinced her to let me go the first time."

Rayne waited for Caleb to leave before letting out a long sigh of relief. She felt much much better that situation was resolved. It was quite the ordeal, it probably bothered her more seeing this as she never told her own mother that she was leaving.

She rested her head against Clarisse's shoulder, feeling a lot more comfortable again. "That was kinda scary." And it was for a moment. She paused for a moment, seemingly spacing out. "But, she means well I imagine. You're her daughter after all. I'm sure she just worries about you. I... imagine my mom would be as well. Probably moreso as I never told her I was leaving..." she trailed off after that thought.

Clarisse nods.

"I'm sure you're right - it's just her way of caring. Doesn't make me feel good about it." she paused as Rayne talked about her own parents. "She probably just hopes you're safe." Clarisse had an opinion on that - but it was none of her business. She didn't know Rayne's circumstances, although the curiosity burned.

"Maybe... I feel like somehow she knew I'd leave though. She always acted a little strange when seeing me the last few days before I did leave. As if she was surprised I was still around. My ma's a strange lady. Maybe you'll meet her one day." Rayne didn't really speak anymore after that, only laying her head against Clarisse's shoulder, thinking about home.

After some time, everyone met back up at the docks, where Cadence explained the more recent occurrences. Following that, the group went back towards where the presumed servant of the manor was.

"Good, this should do. Follow me," the man says as he leads the party north. It took quite a bit of time and the sun began to set, but the group eventually approached a rather large manor. Belros would find that this particular experience felt familiar, but he couldn't figure out why. Nevertheless, the party entered the mansion, which had a decent sized inner area.

"The lord of the manor is in his quarters. I shall bring you to him," he says, leading the party further inside. The place itself was quite nice, adorned with various luxuries. Soon, the group arrived at the master's chamber, where the lord of the manor sat in what appeared to be a throne seat.

lecorruptnoble.png

"Ah, so you've brought them, good," the man says to the servant, who then leaves the room. "I'm sorry for asking you all here on such short notice, but since the Royal Guard happened to be in the area, I decided to try and get in contact with them."

Madante_New.png

"Yes, we were told that there were assassins and the like around this manor plotting your demise. Is this accurate?" Madante asks the noble.

lecorruptnoble.png

"Well..." the noble pauses, moving towards the two grand doors behind his seat. "That's half right. There are people plotting the deaths of others near this mansion. However, it is not my death that they plot."

Madante_New.png

"Oh? Then, do you know who the target is?" Madante asks.

lecorruptnoble.png

"Why of course I do. After all, I'm the one who called them here to deal with all of you," the noble pauses, standing in front of the doors. "You see, word got out about some people snooping around in regards to a certain thieves guild that I currently have ties to. When I heard this, I decided to send out some people to see what they could find out. And what do I find but the Royal Guard. I had heard that the recent deployment got shipwrecked, so I hoped I wouldn't have to care, but it seems you are all still around. Same with that spy from back then it seems," he says while taking a look at Belros. "I wonder what would have happened if your guild believed your side of the story. Perhaps we wouldn't be in this mess, and perhaps your guild would still have it's former values. Alas, that is not the case, and your digging will only cause more of your friends to die. Fitting that its here don't you think?" he laughs for some time before opening the doors behind him. "At any rate, there will be no escape for you. Even if you do survive somehow, good luck finding a ship to get you off the island. I've made sure that all the trips are...booked. Now then, on that note, I have my own boat to catch," he laughs before leaving through the doors, which shut with a loud thud and begin to glow with a strange aura.

Madante_New.png

"This...isn't good. We've been set up. Everyone! Prepare yourselves. I don't think we're going to be able to get out of here without a fight," Madante says as he prepares himself for battle.

"..." silence. For once, she was absolutely speechless at the turn of events. Turning to look at belros, she let out a grumbled sigh, drawing her weapons "So many parts of me want to blame you for this... but I know that I'm probably more at fault for making us pursue this as far as I did. Goddess damn it, I knew that shit-eating wandrought was sketchy the minute I laid eyes on him..."

"Dammit! I felt something fishy was going on here yet I kept my trap shut about." Belros thought to himself angrily. How could he fall for the same trap, TWICE. Does his incompetence know no bounds? Though, hell if it's going to end like last time. Though, there's no point in keeping this hood up anymore. Seeing as they're already trapped inside. He heard Cade's comment and really didn't know how to feel but he knows that she shouldn't be the one to blame.

QZP0uO6.png

"No, none of this is your fault. You had no idea anything like this would happen. If anything you were just doing your job as a royal guard. As for myself, I will take all the blame. If anything I should've seen this coming because it's happened to me once before not too long ago." Belros spoke with guilt and sadness with his shaky voice. One could tell he was holding back some emotions. He paused for a moment, regaining his bearings.

yDwxGVL.png

"But to hell with this manor and to the bastard owns it. We're stuck in a mess once again but I'll make sure no one dies, never again! I don't know about you guys but I think we should repay this man's kindness and rob his entire manor. It's a job that I put on hold for some time now but now seems like a perfect time to finish it!" He spoke with vigor and confidence. He went over to the western door, with a pick in hand and unlocked it. There is no time to waste, and once he opened the door he draws his knife.  "Also, from what I remember from the heist there should be some crumbling walls with rooms behind them. Some of them have loot so feel free to smash some of them down, I'm sure the owner will mind a lot. Heh heh heh."

"keeping that promise is gonna be much easier said than done. But eh...screw it. We're here now. Can't believe I'm saying this, but go wild, thief boy, loot whatever ya find. Might as well get Something out of this, and If anyone pokes around later we can just say all the loot was seized as... evidence. Yeh, evidence. Perfect."

With that said, she turned and headed towards the very doors that noble arse had fled through only moments ago, inspecting them closely as the Anima began to whisper their own analysis. From a brief once over, they definitely seemed quite similar to the door at the poison shop... which meant trying to pick them would obviously be useless. They were reinforced just as well; she expected nothing less at this point.

There was only one way to know the full extent of their security measures however. Back at the shop, they hadn't tried to break the thing down... would've gotten a bit messy if they'd actually succeeded by chance, harder to explain away without authorization to breach and all that. Taking a breath, Cade felt the breeze circulating around her blade intensifying in preparation.

5CEKNqZ.png

"Only one way to find out for sure... hopefully the enchantments don't blast me to bits in retaliation... I wouldn't be surprised though...plus it would make it a lot easier to get out and intercept him..." Sword in hand, she stood a good few feet back, before raising the glowing rapier to a ready stance. Much to her surprise, the magic circulating around it felt quite... natural in her grasp, fluid.... responsive, easy to control. Not much unlike when she had been using the spirits directly... interesting. It made sense though, she supposed- someone with an enchanted weapon was fairly unlikely to have too much depth in magical knowledge, compared to an actual stock and trade mage... so it could only be expected that the makers would design it to be easier and more intuitive to pick up and control than a Tome...still though, in the back of her mind there were doubts.

NU02v5f.png

"Actually hell, here's to hoping I don't accidentally blow myself up, with or without the doors help..."

trying to largely laugh them off, there came one thrusting motion, a bit of focus on a specific point, and a blast of wind fired off from the weapon, spiralling with green aura as it headed for the tonkdoor.

"So, this thing is a Magicsink then. Figures..." she sighed, tucking the blade back into her belt, "Ah well, could be worse I guess. Could've just reflected it right back at me, so.... eh screw it, trying to stab it next probably won't do much better. We'll probably end up seeing that asshole again one way or another, let him run for now while he still can. If we can just manage to get out of here in one peice..."

Darius was prepared to use his magic to try and break down the door, but Cadence's efforts being effortlessly absorbed made him drop that idea.

"Tch...bastard thought of everything, huh. I don't know if this magic absorption aura on the door is a recent addition or was here for a while, but...eh, doesn't matter. Point is, it seems like we'll need to smash our way through the guards to get out."

"Well, Belros has already gotten one door open at least, so the path is kinda clear." she turned and glanced at the still locked door across the room meanwhile "There's probably gonna be a crap ton of wandroughts waiting regardless which way we take, so it's best we all stick together; Splitting ourselves up and going separate ways in this mess is just asking for one group to get held up and murdered before they ever reach the exit. And I don't know about you guys, but I'd prefer it if we were all in one peice when we finally find that douchebag and tear him a new one...

"Sending his pathetic little man servant to play me for a fool, will he?" she muttered, grinding her teeth "I swear to the goddess, I'll run both those fuckers through. Once we're done beating all the intel we can get out of em, that is..."

"We'll need to watch our backs, as somehow I doubt they won't try to come to us from behind the other locked door." Darius pointed out. If the goons sent to attack them had any way of opening the door, they would probably try to surround and overwhelm them.

"Fair point, but it can't really be helped at this point. We'll just have to blast our way forward faster than they can keep up. Or a few of you who are skilled at a range could form a rear guard if ya want, pick off any stragglers who get too close for comfort. At least one of you has a longbow, right?" she was about to say something else, when a bit of movement came from what she had previously presumed to just be a seam in the decaying walls. With the shifting light behind it though, the shape and purpose of the indentation became all too real...

"I don't know what the hell they were smoking when they designed this with Arrowslits, but...at least they tried to be discreet about them. Doesn't surprise, considering the guy who owns the damn place..."

"...oh, and you see those slots in the wall? They're kinda hard to see, I guess. Hidden fairly well, I probably wouldn't have noticed it myself if someone wasn't moving behind there... yeah, try not to stand too close to the interior walls, if you can help it. No doubt that asshole setup some men on the other side to pick us off as we try to run."

jlpiqtb.png"Damnit Bel! Do you know how hard it is to fit a wyvern inside without a battle going on?" She wasn't much for all of this intrigue and such going on. Betrayals like this did provide an opportunity to put down a lot of good-for-nothing people, though, so there was that.

The spy had mentioned something about crumbling walls. She looked around for a moment, glaring at the the walls without picking out much, until Ecquis seemed to smell something. The wyvern pointed his nose at one seemingly unremarkable section of wall. Looking closer, it did seem to have some sort of cracks running through it. . .
