"Ey, the deal was I would never speak about that ever again. So I'll leave the details to your imagination. That is, unless you WANT me to your wing man." The spy chuckled.

oFAdgyX.png

"But what I'm more interested in are these special set of circumstances. Don't think YOU can just gloss over that without anymore explanation. I want the juicy details, a blade like that isn't given to just anybody." It seems like things have come full circle, funny how things work out like that.

"I never said I wanted you as my wingman, but I also didn't say that I wasn't at least somewhat interested in the proposition of the date itself," Madante replies before moving onto the next topic. "As for the special circumstances...an incredibly durable sword would be needed for my work since most of my money went towards paying off some rather nasty debts," Madante answered, muttering the last bit. "If I didn't need to spend money on replacement equipment, I could use my earnings towards the debt. That's all it really boiled down to, and that's why they commissioned the blade. Not nearly as incredible a story as you expected huh?"

"I see, I will say it wasn't what I expected." The spy said a bit disappointed. He was hoping the story would be a bit more grand.

oFAdgyX.png

"Anyways, I guess I could tell you my plan since I'm such a nice guy." Belros spoke before leaning in towards Madante's ear to whisper the plan.  "So my plan was for you to go talk to Myrdwyn, she's probably drinking somewhere under in the hold. Offer to talk over a couple of drinks and make sure to speak with confidence. Then while you two are chatting I'd join in and start making a scene. Then you come up and give me a good punch across the face. After which Myrdwyn would have so much greater respect for you that she'd want to spend more time with the strong 'take not shit' commander. Plus, no one would even know this was planned they'd all think 'Oh, it's just Belros being a jerk again'. It's the perfect plan I'm telling ya!"

Madante_New.png

"That's...certainly a plan of sorts," Madante says with a half-amused voice. "That being said, something tells me that Myrdwyn would get to you well before I could. And if that happens...I couldn't guarantee your safety. I'm also slightly unconvinced that Myrdwyn would think of me in a new light if it did work out, but that's something I couldn't really confirm one way or the other. That and I don't need you ruining your reputation around here any more than it already has been. How about I just go and have a chat with her and see where things go from there? Alright?" he asks, patting Belros on the shoulder.

"I have a feeling she's bound to beat the crap out of me at some point, besides, my reputation has already gone down the crapper anyways so I'd gladly tarnish it a bit more to help you out. Though, if you really don't want to go with the plan I won't stop you and I'll leave you two alone seeing as I won't be doing any wing manning anytime soon. Just make sure you don't back out and tell me how it goes, ya hear?" The spy said encouraging his commander. He held out his right hand clenched in a fist, wanting to give Madante a fist bump before he headed out.

14 hours ago, Zetaark said:

Karik_New_Clothes_Red.png

"Not quite goodbye. I'll be around in Versidia once we get there, and you can visit me if you want. Right Ma?"

Keanna.png

"Yes that's quite alright, I'm glad to see that Karik has gotten to meet some nice people from all of this. But yes, our main shop and home is stationed in Versidia, so if you ever want to see him, you'll have the opportunity. Alright?"

Mp7JnP7.png

"Alright then, sure thing," she said "Yeah, I'll definitely come visit, once this whole mess is done with."

NU02v5f.png

"In the meantime though karik, try not to let anymore archers or angry riders get the drop on you, alright?" she chuckled at the friendly jab. It was strange really, that had only been what? less than a week or two ago, last time it happened? Yet already it seemed much longer. And yet the wounds that had been inflicted even before then were still fresh as yesterday in her mind. Hell, sometimes she still woke up in a cold sweat, right before the final blow could be struck...

5CEKNqZ.png

"..." Her banter quickly faded, as it the memories again danced across her vision. She pushed them away best she could, shaking her head. It was almost ironic, Karik had spent the whole time he'd been with them hoping to find his parents, and yet she'd actively ran from the one who was still alive. It must've been nice, having a mother like his... Goddess knows how long she'd spent, searching for him. Worrying and fretting day and night about him. she almost envied him- actually no. There was no almost, she did envy him. But even as she did, she searched for something else to pivot to, stop the awkward silence that was beginning to form "Uh, anyway... I'm curious, since we're kinda talking about it already... what exactly do you guys trade in? Anything special or just a bit of everything?"

"Don't worry, provided I don't get my face smashed through the deck, you'll be the first to hear about it," Madante replies with a laugh, returning the fist bump before looking for Myrdwyn. It took a little while, but he eventually found her below deck, seemingly bored and very drunk.

"Hello Myrdwyn. Do you mind some company?" Madante asked, trying not to sound awkward.

"Generally we handle textiles for varying purposes. Sometimes we turn them into actual products for sale, other times we sell them unprocessed for the people who need them as such. Really it depends on the customer," Keanna replies.

After Madante went on his way Belros remembered about the armor he stole from the manor. He had no idea what the exact value of it was or if it did anything special but it seemed worth it enough to take. Plus there just so happens to be a merchant who should know a thing or two about goods. Without wasting anymore time Belros went and grabbed the sack the armor was stored in and brought it up to Keanna.

oFAdgyX.png

"Excuse me, and sorry to interrupt but I wanted to get your opinion on some goods I... 'acquired' from the manor." Belros spoke inserting himself into the conversation. He opened up the bag to show the armor,  "What would you say the value of this armor to be and is there anything special to it? Many knights at the manor wore something like this and it seemed to grant very good protection at least."

"Oh, so that's what you were running off to that isolated corner for, was it?" Cadence crossed her arms as the thief boi interrupted "I figured you'd purloined something and were gonna keep it yourself. Either that or you were relieving yourself..."

5CEKNqZ.png

"Anyway, just so you know, she might not be able to appraise this thing... given she trades in textiles. You may just have to wait until we land on kabumu to find someone... if there's even anyone friendly who's still alive by then. Goddess knows whats going on in that place."

"Armor hmm? It's not quite my field, but I've examined enough types of it to at least be knowledgeable in the designs. Give me one moment," she says as she grabs the armor, making a noticeable sound as she picks it up. She looks it over a bit before grabbing some equipment from her person and examining it. After a few minutes, she hands the armor back to Belros.

"Well its certainly bulky, though oddly it doesn't seem that suited for dealing with heavy blows. I will say that its somewhat enchanted, it seems like this piece was designed to ward off magic. Definitely a custom piece. I'd say it would be worth a decent amount, but it could also be pretty useful if your fighting a mage or two," she says, finishing her appraisal.

gcV3lkg.png "Don't see why not. Probably kill myself tryin' ta finish all this off by m'self, and 's not like I'm busy." Somewhat belatedly, she blinks. "Wait, is this some official business, uh, Captain? 'Cause I thought we were gonna have some down time and I'm gonna need some time ta sober up if you want me doin' anythin' productive."

"Oh no, don't worry, no official business. I just wanted to chat with you. It's been some time since I've actually spoken to a lot of you, so I figured I might as well start now," Madante says as he looks around the space by Myrdwyn. "So I can tell that its alcohol, but exactly what kind is it. And where exactly do you keep it?" he asks, mildly confused.

"Oh, well that's good. This is rum, not really anythin' special," she said, holding up the bottle in her hand. "Cheap, though, and good for the price. Bottle down there's some whiskey. I recommend startin' with this, 'less the guy who sold me the stuff down there was lyin'. That's a whiskey, and some strong stuff. Smells like the inside of a horse's ass, honestly, but 's not bad tasting if ya can get past that, and it'll get ya drunk as a skunk in a heartbeat." She peered suspiciously at Madante for a moment. "Yer not gonna make me get rid 'a my stash, are ya? Dunno how many officers I've had that wanted the stuff around, nevermind how much they got stuffed wherever the hell."

"So long as you don't end up riding into battle drunk off your rocker, you can keep your stash," Madante remarks, rather indifferent to what the wyvern rider did in her spare time, so long as it didn't harm the others. "Now I'm reminded of an incident that happened once when I was still in training. Apparently one of the squad leaders had their own stash get discovered while they were grilling a troop about their own stash. And to make it worse, that squad leader's superior was around surveying his work. I wonder what became of that," Madante says aloud, trying and failing to recall what happened.

"Actually, I don't think I recall hearing much about your prior endeavors. Have any interesting stories?"

"Not a ton a' interestin' ones, gotta admit, most of 'em would just be me hitting people over the head until they behave. They got me doin' all sorts of courier work all the time, though, 'cause Ecquis can deal with wind a lot better than those prisshy-ass pegasi. Lets me see some interestin' faces. Like this one family, I can't for the life a' me remember what they did, but they had my head spinning when I was completely sober. Met their daughter first, or who I thought was their daughter. That boy looked like his father, who I thought was the mother, and I thought the mother was the father. Confused the hell outta me, let me tell ya, but once they got around to it they were nice people. Well. Not the son, he was an ass. Why was I there again. . . ?" She frowned, shaking her head for a moment. "Whatever. You want some, by the way?" She shook the bottle in her hand at Madante.

"Well, I'm not usually one for rum, but sure I'll have a little," Madante says, laughing a little as Myrdwyn tried to navigate her own story. He then takes the bottle and has a sip before handing the bottle back to Myrdwyn. "I'm not sure what I expected the taste to be, but now I'm reminded of why I didn't go for rum on the occasions I did drink," Madante remarks with a laugh.

"This stuff ain't that great, but I make sure to keep a variety a' spirits. I've got a saddlebag on Ecquis for it, specially padded and such. No luck if ya don't like any kinda spirits, though, the weaker stuff ain't worth carryin' around with me." She shrugged, and took another swig. "More fer me, I guess. Anythin' in particular you wanted to hear about, or just down here to chew the fat a bit? I haven't got anythin' to get to, unless you got someone for me to beat up or somethin." She grinned a bit at this last.

"Nothing in particular, for both things to hear about and things to beat up. I mostly just came down to talk to you really," Madante says with a shrug. "Though, I guess I'm a little curious; what was your family like? Were they also guardsman, or did they have some other profession?" Madante decides to ask.

"My family? Nah, they make shoes. Don't think my mother could guard ya against a mouse, really. Brothers and sisters went off to do all kinds a' stuff, 'cept the youngest, he stayed to keep the family business goin'. Cobblin's not bad, I guess, and I was decent at it, but like hell if I was gonna do it for my entire life. Can you imagine? Every day, you're just measuring people's feet and sewing leather together and all that crap. Noooo thank you. I'll take my idiot lizard and people shootin' at me all the time over that." She shook her head before taking another drink.

yWRKETb.png

"How 'bout you? Got some sorta long, proud guardin' lineage? Or maybe a long, proud, non-guardin' lineage, I know they like to grab lordlings and make 'em captains sometimes."

"My family? Well I should have seen this coming," Madante sighs before he leans against one of the walls. "Where do I even begin with them? Well for starters, they were from a lineage of...lesser nobility I guess? I'm not sure what to call them, but they were both from well off families. I've got two brothers, one older and one younger. The younger one found some interest in ship building for whatever reason, so as soon as he was able he started helping out at one of the Versidian shipyards. My older brother...lets not talk about him right now," he pauses, catching his breath before speaking again. "Anywho, my parents were well enough as long as they had their money and their wine, which was fine and all. Well, until the family money ran dry anyhow. My parents weren't the best at managing money. Honestly I'm sure your wyvern could do a better job at finances, and that's me being entirely serious. It wasn't long before they started taking out whatever loans they could to support their old lifestyle. After a series of rather unfair events in my opinion, I ended up having to take care of the family finances," he sighs before realizing how long he had spoken.

Madante_New.png

"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ramble for as long as I did. It's just that when I think about my family situation...there's a lot to say. That's all," Madante finishes, looking down at the deck.

"Ah, don't worry about. Not everyone can come from a nice, boring family. Sucks that they put ya on the spot like that, though. Right now I'm tryin' to decide if it'd be rude to offer to hit 'em over the head for ya. . .  If ya can't tell I'm kinda spoilin' for a fight here, not that you gotta worry about that. But no, don't worry about talkin' too long. You got this far without managing to stuff your boot into it unlike a certain someone - who, by the way, I WILL turn into mush if he gets too close to me - and all ya did was answer the question."

yWRKETb.png

"Dunno how you do it, honestly, this captain-in' business. I couldn't handle it. 'Specially since you got all sorts a' other shit dropped in your lap."

Madante_New.png

"Is it bad that I'm seriously considering the prospect of you attempting to knock some sense into them?" Madante asks in a manner suggesting that an answer wasn't necessary. "Honestly I don't feel like much of a captain half of the time. Most of the work I actually end up doing is just menial stuff and the like. When it comes to actual combat, you all seem to have things covered most of the time. As for the other business...honestly if I could ask for one thing, its for my parents to actually take responsibility for their screw ups, but we're 5 years past that being an option," Madante groans.

"That debt is honestly the only reason I'm even in the guard. Not to say I don't enjoy the work now, but this wasn't what I expected to be doing at this point in my life."

"Very well then. Watch, and hold your past and your hopes for the future in your heart."

Selia began to needlessly shuffle the card, their blank faces towards the ground. Holding them out to Emilee, she gestured to the cards with her free hand.

"Pick three. And as you do, hold a question that you wish to be answered more than anything else in your heart and mind. This will be what is revealed to you. Both how that question has been shaped in the past and present, but also how it will resolve in the future."

"Okay!" Emilee closed both her hands into fists, and concentrated hard. She thought about her ideal prince, the one who would take her away to a perfect life of love. She thought of all of the children she wanted, of how perfect their wedding would be. She thought of the happiness she was searching for, and all of the people she had helped achieve their own. When she felt ready, she careful picked out three cards and separated them from the rest. "What now?" She asked excitedly.

"Hey, if you asked me. . .

Bein' a captain isn't about bein' the best fighter, though. I mean, yeah, it doesn't hurt, but ya got more important things to do than stick people with yer fancy sword. I know I wouldn't have been able to keep these people in line, much less make sure we're still gettin' from place to place and doin' what we're supposed to do. And I probably wouldn't try unless they begged at my feet for me to take some kinda leadership position. You got me curious, though; what WOULD ya be doin' if ya weren't here?"
