Sutoratosu
“Does anyone happen to know how long we might’ve been out?” Cadence turned around at the question, listening on as the commander commented on the position of the sun and the nomad of how wherever they were, it couldn't have been long if the horse survived. Hell, how long was a good question, one that, for the most part, none of them had any real way of knowing, from what she could see. It could've been a few hours, a full day, even a few days.... goddess knew which. Receiving concise, timely answers from the goddess though tended to be a far harder feat than getting one from the spirits though... at least for her. "you lot wouldn't happen to have kept track of that, would you?" She asked them in her mind. It took them a few moments, as she heard the hurried whispers of their ethereal voices fading in and out like the embers of a flame, here and yet oddly not here at the same time as they chattered back and forth. Finally though, they returned their attention to her, seemingly ready with their final estimate on the matter... Cadence almost felt her jaw drop when the figure at last popped into her mind. "T-three days..." she answered. "Three....whole days, according to the Anima. We've either been asleep on this damn beach or adrift from on the waves that entire while, and it's definitely a miracle if most of that time was spent on the latter..." InnocentSerenity
"'Three days'?" Karik shook his head, trying to think of where they could be taken in that amount of time. "With the ocean currents around Veritias, we could be anywhere. And even farther and farther from home." Try as he might, Karik still couldn't shake the feeling of wanting to go back to Veritias out of his head. As selfish as it was, Karik tried to speed things up, ever the impatient child. "C'mon, we'd best get moving, don't ye think? We be burning daylight."
grasssnake485
Chirya groggily pulled herself out of the sand. So, the gods were kind this time. All she could remember was the ship getting torn to pieces, and diving into the icy, stormy depths, but no matter how skilled of a swimmer she was, swimming in a stormy sea was much, much, different than swimming in a calm lake. After several mouthfuls of sea water and nearly inhaling it twice, the current smacked her into... something big and hard, probably the remains of the ship or its contents, and everything after that was black. "C'mon, we'd best get moving, don't ye think? We be burning daylight. "Yeah, you're right. Three days is a long time to be out, and we'd best be heading towards our destination. If we can even find where we are, that is. " Though she had never been out of Versidia, she recalled from her geography lessons that the closest islands to where they were supposed to be were Arcadia, Kabumu, and possibly Equinox or Aleana if they really drifted that far. "Hey, I think it might be possible we ended up on Equinox Isle, or maybe Aleana," she offered. "If the currents are really strong, they definitely could have carried us that far in three days." Anstane
Darius listened in on the conversations, preferring to keep quiet. One thing, however, surprised him: Cadence's assessment on how long they were adrift on the waves. Not so much the time spent, but where she found out the information. "Anima spirits? Why would...unless she was trained or was born with the ability to sense and command them...I'll have to ask her about it later" the shaman thought, his curiosity now really piqued. He walked over to the captain after that. "Hey, captain. Is there anything in particular you need me to do right now?" he inquired.
Zetaark
"Hmm, I can't think of anything specifically right now. Though I think that we all should set out pretty soon. We don't have that much daylight, and who knows how far the nearest town is...provided there is one," Madante answered, again muttering the last part under his breath. As he started to survey the coastline once again, he saw something moving in the forest growth nearby. "Is anyone there?" Madante yells out, brandishing his sword in case of hostile foes or wild animals. One couldn't tell. After a bit of rustling, a man came out of the brush, hands in the air signaling peace. "My, I'm sorry for startling you, though I'll admit that I wasn't expecting anyone to be around here," the man explains, before looking around the beach and seeing some of the wreckage of the ship. "Though from the looks of it, you seem to have gotten caught up in the storm that came by a few days ago. Who are you all exactly?" the man asks, again looking over the party. "My name is Madante, and myself and my crew are all part of the Royal Guard. We were sent out to deal with some trouble in Kabumu, but we ran into some pirates and the storm first," he explained. "Incidentally, where are we right now?" "Nowhere near your destination I'm afraid. Though I don't think this is the best place to talk. Come, my home is not too far from here, though it's the only inhabited place for a little while. You're lucky that I ran into you here," the man chuckled a little before he started to call out to the group and escort them to his home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After a slightly long hike through the forest, the group eventually came to a small log cabin nestled in a clearing. The man invited everyone inside and offered them some drinks, before sitting down on a chair and explaining to the group where they had ended up. "I should introduce myself first and foremost. I am Samuel, one of the local residents of Irvetos. Which is where you all are now, and quite a ways away from Kabumu I might add," he informed the party. "The next town is a little far, so you all can rest here for the rest of the day and set out in the morning. You'll likely want to make your way to the harbor if you want to reach your destination." InnocentSerenity
The Pirate helped himself to an apple from the table the man sat by. Karik seated himself on one of the couches in the room, leaning his axe beside his legs as he sat with straight posture. “Certainly a nice place ye got here, Samuel.” Karik was about to bite into the apple until he heard Samuel’s words. “Irvetos‘?!” Karik got up from his seat, looking through his mental map of Veritias. “That’s on the other corner of Veritias!” Karik fidgeted once again, worry coming back to him as he thought about how much farther they were. Karik nervously bit into his apple, trying to focus on the fruit in his mouth rather than his current situation.
Aurorix
"Irvetos? Daaaaaa... er..." Noticing Karik being here he had to stop himself. "Dang, we're that far off course? I guess that's what happens when you go adrift for three days." He grabbed a glass and poured himself some grape juice. There wasn't any alcohol but he wasn't going to drink any in front of minors anyways. He leaned up against the wall. "Well, I guess we'll need to get a new boat to get back on track. Samuel, how close is the nearest town with a port?" He asked the generous man. Hopefully it's not too far away, they're three days late as it is. Besides, walking a long way will be a pain. Zetaark
"On foot the harbor is about 2 or 3 days away. There's a few towns in between, but they are rather small and easy to miss. That being said, the path is relatively straightforward once you get out of the forest here, so you all should be fine," Samuel answers before getting up to rummage through a nearby drawer. After a bit of fumbling about, he pulls out a map. "This map details most of the towns that are around here. The place you're looking for is Gateon Port, which is around the western coast. You should be able to get a boat from there, though I can't say for certain that any go straight to your destination. This island isn't exactly the biggest tourist attraction, so there aren't many boats coming to and from here," he informs them, handing Belros the map for them to use. rokubiraijuu
At the arrival of the stranger, Idei shifts his attentions to him, tightening his hold on the reins lest the presence of an unfamiliar person sends Kite into another panic. The stallion seems stable enough for now, though his nervousness is still palpable and he continues to occasionally stamp the ground with his hooves. Idei says nothing, but follows along with the rest of the group as they proceed into the woods and into the log cabin. He has to fasten his steed to a post outside, but stands in the doorway after the others have already settled so he can keep Kite in his vision. Irvetos. The name is alien to him, but then so is everything. As Karik continues and Belros adds his own disbelief, Idei begins to realize just how ignorant he is. It's struck him numerous times since he'd left Arcadia, but for his entire life, his tribe has been the whole world and he had thought he'd known everything there was to know. Now it's becoming clearer each day that he's only been seeing the sky from the bottom of a well. Remaining silent lest he give away his lack of knowledge, he watches as the man unfurls the map and explains their destination to them. He doesn't entirely trust him. Though he has helped them thus far, it is not in Nayavu culture to accept kindness indiscriminately. Thus, his hand remains bereft of a beverage, and he has only stepped as far into the cabin as he needs to in order to be part of the conversation. Anstane
"Irvetos, huh? That's...quite far." Darius commented as he poured himself a glass of plain water. After three days of drifting on the ocean waves, some hydration was desperately needed. He simply stood quietly afterwards, listening in on everyone else, until Samuel took out a map and mentioned a port. "So, our best option then is to charter a boat, or at least sail to a different island before chartering a ship from there. Either way, we'll need to get to Gateon Port first." the Shaman said as he took a look at the map. "We will probably need to stop by the towns en route to pick up some supplies as well, seeing how we lost pretty much everything except what we had on us..." Pyon Pyon Kyuu!~
"Thank you for your kindness." Emilee thanks the man as she and the others enter his home. She sat quietly wherever she could find a seat, but her instinct was to search and explore. While the situation was dire, it was also really exciting. "Do we even have any money with us?" Emilee asks directed at Madante. "I'd feel bad if we had to ask for supplies and travel only on the right that we are part of the Royal Guard." Sutoratosu
Cadence said nothing, as the exchange continued. The man's kindness truly was a boon, even if she'd been right and all that time had indeed swept them far from where they needed to be. There was one thing that bothered her however... perhaps it was his tone, perhaps it was the sagely demeanor with which he regarded them, one way or another though, he ultimately reminisced her far too much of him. Even though she knew it could not be- that whatever she'd seen not long ago in the Shaded Realm was indeed the truth of the matter and that was truly where he had to be now -still she found herself unable to keep her eyes off him as he proffered valuable information to them, sitting one of the couches within the Cabin. Again they whispered within her mind, this time confirming what she already knew full well; he could not be him, from what they felt from him, this man was likely not even a mage at all, and his presence was far too weak compared to every time their true master had proclaimed his orders... "I know it can't be him, you wandroughts..." She muttered beneath her breath, just barely loud enough for those closest to overhear, "but still...he reminds me so much of him..." Zetaark
"It seems that some of our supplies, including our funds, happened to wash up with us. So we should be fine. When we get to Gateon Port, I'll ask around about where the outgoing ships are going. With any luck, one may end up going right to our destination," Madante chuckled at his wishful thinking. Zetaark
After a brief respite at Samuel's cabin, Madante felt the slight unrest of the party. While getting off the beach was nice, they still had a destination to reach. "I thank you for your hospitality, but really we all need to make our way to the harbor soon. We wouldn't want to miss any of the boats going out to our destination," Madante explained. "True enough. The Royal Guard must be busy, and getting swept this far off course must not be the best of things. Though if you intend on leaving now, at least let me give you some camping supplies. The map I gave you should be able to guide your way, and you should be able to reach Gateon Port in only a few days," he told the captain, before giving them a few tents. "Most of these have been lying around from my past as an adventurer. I trust that they'll be of more use to you than me all things considered. Though do be careful, I've heard rumors of bandits down south. I'm sure you all will be able to handle yourselves, but do keep alert," he warned the group. "Thank you very much, for both the supplies and the information. Perhaps we'll see each other again someday," Madante replied before looking off to his group. "Now then, lets head off to Gateon and get back on track." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After a bit of time, with help from the map Samuel gave the group, the main path that led to Gateon Port was found. After an hour of traveling, Madante noticed a group of people coming together in front of them. As the group got closer, one of the men stepped up to Madante. "Hey, don't you know? This here area is territory of the Band of Dolores. If you want to pass, you'll have to pay up. All your money and belongings should suffice," the man told the group in a snarly voice. "I'm afraid we spare no money for brutes. Suppose we decide not to give you our belongings, then what?" he retorts, thinking these people to just be passing through trying to cause trouble. "If you don't decide to, well..." the man pauses before making a loud whistle. Through the trees, the group can hear signs of movement. As for the man before them, he has brandished an axe and taken a battle stance. "We're just going to have to take them off your hands...by any means necessary." "Just great. These must be the bandits we heard about. Still, packs like these tend to have a leader, or at least someone in charge. Everyone, prepare for battle!" he yells before brandishing his sword. She meant it though. Having to call the spirits just to stop him bleeding to death wasn't a feeling she'd relished the first time, and she highly doubted it'd be any better the second. She didn't take too much longer before springing to action herself however, eyes fixing on the heavy thickets not far away. "Well, once more it seems. First pirates, now bandits... I wonder if the wandrought leading them will be smart enough to run away though." She stopped. There, beyond the thickets, there it was. She tightened her grip on the iron rapier as she caught a glimpse of idle movement just beyond trees. Nigh immediately, a plot formed before her. "heheheheh.... let's see these bastards deflect what they can't even see coming." And that was it, before she vanished into the woodwork, like a shade in the night as she kept every ounce of her attention fixed on the axe welder... and as a flash of silver, briefly lashed out from the woodline with a glinting arc. Raindrop Valkyrie
"Ack... does this group ever not get into trouble? It's like, they be misfortune magnets. First sea dogs, next a bleedin' storm smacks their ship in twain' and now land rats. Bastards best be glad the girlie is here... and would be more than mighty cross with me if I abandoned ship." Beau might've said if he could tak, however he jsut snorted loudly in disgust. He was starting to fell like he was here to babysit more than the dreamer with her head in the clouds at this rate. He'd do it for her... He had no interest in doing it for these dolts. But,he knew she'd not let him leave them. He snorted again at the thought. "Yer too kind girlie... I nary think these folk be worth your time. But whaddya I know? I just be a winged 'orse of course." "Oh, I should probably help." Rayne said aloud after hearing Beau snort several times. It only just brought her back to reality. She headed for the first target that made sense. rokubiraijuu
More bandits . . . ? Exhaling slowly through his nose, he pulls himself carefully onto Kite's back. Thankfully, their hours of travel and slight respite have calmed the steed down somewhat, and he has returned to more or less his usual state, though more subdued than before. Idei is sure that he will return to his old temperament given a little bit of time; he had been like this in the desert when the disaster had struck, too, and had recovered well enough in Arcanos. The lack of a saddle is a slight concern, but he has ridden a horse bareback before on many occasions, though never for a prolonged period of time. With luck, they'll find a town before too long and he can acquire the tools needed to begin making his own. Settling himself on Kite, he murmurs a low apology to the mount with a rub to his neck, then guides him forward with a subtle shift of his body weight. It'll be a little harder to shoot and direct the stallion without his stirrups, but there's nothing that can be done. He'll just have to move slowly and avoid sudden motions that might throw him from Kite's back. "You're still with me, aren't you? Remember, it's just us for a long time, Kite." His only response is the horse's ears rotating backwards slightly to pick up his words, but they're both more focused on the enemies now anyway, and he quietly notches an arrow to his bow, testing the breeze. Move to D8 and shoot Bandit 2. Edited December 12, 2016 by rokubiraijuu
