esu
Hi guys, i'm new here. I have question about Technician ability and Misty Terrain effect that increase base power of Magical Leaf and Icy Wind to x1.5. Which effect that will be applied first? from technician or misty terrain? thanks Oh, also, is it possible to get Staryu in wild? if so, where is it? i'm doing mono team, and i hate to use HM-slave
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 16, 2016 Administrators Share Posted November 16, 2016 Looks like technician still applies through any field effect, because it's looking for the base power of the move itself-- rather than the power after any multipliers. Kinda the same principle like if you have STAB on a move-- it still looks only at the original BP.

Raindrop Valkyrie
It should stack is what Ame is saying pretty sure. For example... if it was STAB from a grass type normally it applies both since the thing that Technician checks for is "does this move normally have base power of 60?" and it doesn't regard any more factors. The field effect is basically like STAB in that regard in that it doesn't regard it for figuring out whether Technician applies. It will stack the bonuses because like STAB technician's call only checks for the move's original base power. It doesn't check to see if it was augmented in anyway. Because STAB applies the same, it jsuts adds on the mutliplier ((because when the damage is being calc'd the mutliplier's are NOT really added onto the BP, until the Damage Calc goes through. lemme simplify what's happening. You use Magical Leaf. Before Damage is calc'd: The ability Technician calls and asks "Does this move have a bp of 60?" In this case, it will be yes. It now adds a 1.5 multipler into the calculation. The field will now be called and it will ask "Was a move in this list used?" If yes, it will apply the appropriate bonus. In this case it is another 1.5 multiplier. Then it will check "Is this move the Same Type as the battler?" if yes add a 1.5 multiplier, if no, add nothing. Continue as normal ((heck the part above is technically part of this, I just added it to show STAb can also apply tbh.)) Calculate Damage. So, the multiplers accrue and the base damage doesn't actually go up until the damage is calculated, so if working as intended, both 1.5 multipliers from the field and Tech should apply.
