Shamitako
Drip ~Story~ Welcome girls, Welcome to a world of darkness and horror, right within your very minds. This world comes to you at night, you slip away from reality and into the darkness. It eats at you, consumes your soul, and yet it gives you strength. As you wander deeper you soon find your mind and body have left you. You are no more, only a whisper. Fear. Fear of losing yourself, of reality leaving you behind. You scream and awaken ~Intro~ And welcome players to Books, Dreams, and Bleeding Things (actual name pending). The world I've pieced together here is a simple one. Here in this roleplay you'll play as a Girl. A Girl with a Book. A Book with strange properties. This Book will lead you to Wander into strange dreams where you are constantly beset by shadows, Black. A simple landscape of White will be before you, along with monsters sent to slow you down. But all hope is not lost, there is a way to escape with your life. Simply give in to your Book's power and use it to bleed the monsters dry. The Red that forms their blood keeps the Blackness at bay, for a little while. You just need to live until morning, until you can awaken with a Scream ~Rules and Mechanics~ There's some simple mechanics to BDB. Black slowly chases the characters across White. Monsters bleed Red which stops the Blackness until it dries. Girls bleed White which erases Red. Each girl will have a few stats--strength, agility, and mind--used for minor checks when dealing with monsters. these will be hidden from the players (and I'll do my best to pretend I don't know them). As well as a numeric representation of their sanity, which shall be kept public. This last one is of dire importance. The more the Girls rely on the power of their Books, the lower their SAN will drop. sanchipinchi If a Girl's sanity hits zero, then they are lost forever to the Book's power. Using the Book to spill White instead of Red might help mitigate this... There is an almost certain chance of dying, but there is a way to mitigate this--albeit a risky one. With enough Red around her, a Girl may cast a Sigil, taking a direct toll to her sanity but directly granting her a second chance at life. When a monster kills her, she will revive at this Sigil. If a Sigil is inside Black, it will keep the Black at bay for a short while after revival. However the girl will have to find her own path back to White. Monsters can destroy Sigils, so casting them in the middle of a fight is usually a poor decision. But casting them without knowing when danger is near might let the Black overtake them For the most part, the RP will take place as the Girls Wander. But occasionally there shall be a reprieve where the Girls shall be allowed to Scream themselves awake. While awake one post shall be made for each Girl where she makes an attempt to destroy her Book. (This is the players' chance to provide a glimpse of their characters' life outside the dreams.) Rules: Stick to standard RP etiquette--avoid things such as metagaming and powerplaying Be polite to one another No dialogue-only posts. Please try to work observations and body language into your posts. Seeing and showing how the characters interact beyond what they say will be a great help to this RP This will of course be rather bloody. What it should not be is gory. There may be some getting impaled here or there, but more or less every body should stay in one piece no matter how many holes you punch in it Naturally, also keep sexual content to a minimum. In fact, don't even bring it up at all A tad less naturally, try to hold the cursing down a bit ~Character Sheet and Notes~ Name: [Telling the other girls your name is a good way to die, but you still have one] Alias: [A secondary name based on your nightmare form, "The ___ Girl"] Age: [From 10 to 15] Alignment: [D&D style] Appearance: [Your normal appearance, gothic colors are recommended of course] Mutilation: [The changes that occur to you in the nightmares] Abilities: [Describe the ways your mutilation helps you survive] Backstory: [How you acquired your book, nothing more] I've forgone personality in favor of the good old fashioned alignment system. Personality can be revealed in the RP, I just need to have a light grasp of motivation and predictability so I don't accidentally get someone killed in two seconds Notes: If you have any questions, please ask. I'm sure I missed something >_< I'm capping this at five PCs (not including mine). A slot is only claimed upon acceptance of a character The girls don't exactly know why, but they feel disinclined to tell the others their real names, as though it might lead to trouble Capitalize Black, White, and Red as as they pertain to the forces of the RP. But don't worry about the other capitalized stuff, that was just to show importance for this The time period is ~1940s-50s Right after waking up, part of your transformation will remain--signifying that these really are more than just dreams. Feel free to have it magically dissipate whenever across your post. Or don't, whichever is fine Your power cannot just be "part of me turns into/sprouts tentacles." That's way too easy All the books are named as Book of [something], this and a girl's alias are both based on her mutilation The "actual name pending" thing is a joke ~~~ Death is guaranteed, and the only way to overcome it is to further give in to the powers of the beyond. Shamitako
Characters The Thousand-Eye Girl - Lexi Name: Ei Brookes Alias: The Thousand-Eye Girl, Eyes for short Sanity: 9Age: 13Alignment: Lawful GoodAppearance: Ei has blonde hair and green eyes. She wears a medium-length purple dress with dark red frills at the end of the skirt and sleeves. Her hair is kept in a bun with a red hairpiece shaped like a mum. She tends to wear intricate black sandals or simply go barefootMutilation: When in her dreams, Eyes's back and arms coat themselves in strange, vaguely reptillian eyes. The color of the eyes is either green--matching to Eyes--or a deep purple. Around them sprout pale brown scales, slightly darker than Eyes's skin. They aren't overly sensitive, but do itch slightly when rubbed against. Eyes's dress is light enough to avoid this being a constant issueAbilities: Eyes's eyes grant her the ability to look through boundaries. Opening portals filled with mere glimpses yet still showing unspeakable horrors. These portals have no physical effect on the girls, but they lash out with sharpened appendages made of bone when monsters draw near. The eyes are also semi-functional, they don't provide proper vision but will detect movement that might be missed otherwise, giving a sensation like that of wind brushing lightly against her back when they see somethingBackstory: The school which Ei attends has a basement, but the door to it is always locked. Rumor has it that it was used by an occult club at the school many years before to perform strange rituals, but one such ritual turned bloody and resulted in the horrific deaths of all the members. Although not usually one to sneak, Ei one day found herself extremely curious and stole the key. Inside the room she found many strange symbols and tools, no doubt left by the rumored club. Scared but also rivited by these strange findings, she searched throughout the room to see if she could find any clues as to what had actually happened in that club. While searching, a strange glowing began to emit from a bookshelf. Between a large number of books on magic, hidden behind a false cover, she found it. The strange book captivated her, she couldn't resist taking it. She quickly stashed it in her bag and retreated home The Unnoticed Girl - Noir Name: Lucia Saeptuose Alias: The “Unnoticed” Girl, aka “Latens” Sanity: 11 Age: 14 Alignment: Lawful Neutral Appearance: Latens has long flowing purple hair that is below waist length, a portion of which is tied into a braid that flows down her left section of her torso. Her fringe covers her left eye, revealing only an incarnadine right eye. She fashions herself in the atypical fancy, formal looking gothic Lolita dress with frills that reaches below her knees with sleeves that reach out to her wrists. A rich girl, she also possesses a ruby necklace and a golden ring with a jewel of the same color. Mutilation: Latens’s fair skin turns pure black, with exceptions of the portion of her skin surrounding her right eye, which turns into a hollow void with no eyeball. Her hair quickly falls and shortens to a gray, unkempt mess of hair that is slightly above neck length. Strange, ominous patterns encroach her darkened skin and glow through her dress with a much less prominent light. Abilities: Latens has the ability to ignore the restrictions of tangible form and appearance, enabling her to become intangible or invisible at will, though she cannot have both at the same time. This also significantly dims the light she emits, although very keen eyesight and sensory abilities can still notice it. Backstory: Latens was a neglected and depressive child due to being neglected in a wealthy family in an era that shunned female heirs. She liked being hidden and alone with books as her only companion, making her an intelligent person as the years passed. Her school’s library was small but she found a book with a vaguely, written old note pertaining to a grimoire containing “knowledge beyond one’s desire, but at great price”, with several hints behind its location hinted in the storyline of the book the note was kept in. Utilizing her repertoire of knowledge, she endeavoured in search for the book – after countless weeks of searching, she at long last found (or think she has) the book in the national library, which she stole and took home in the middle of the night. The Brumal Girl - Strat Name: Rei Ayami Dunn Alias: "The Brumal Girl" or Bruma for short (though "Tsumetai"/"Tsume" can also be used) Sanity: 12 Age: 15 Alignment: Neutral Good Appearance: Rei and her sister take strongly after their mother, bearing the same diamond face and snub nose with Monolid Eyes. Her Irises are heterochromatic much like her father's, with the right being a deep brown while the left is a similarly vivid green. Her hair falls in Black, Cascading Curls around her face, and her complexion easily gives away her mixed ancestry to the observant onlooker. When not in her uniform- consisting of a black blazer, white blouse and red pleated skirt,-she often wears a pale blue sundress patterned with white diamonds. Mutilation: Rei's skin takes on a glacial blue tint and her raven curls fade to snow white, frost permeating each and every lock and shining with a soft light. Her pupils narrow to feline slits, with her irises changing hue to a bright, reflective silver. Her canines noticeably grow more prominent, and her body grows colder than ice. The very air itself seems to turn frigid with her presence, while the ground beneath her feet is covered in frost with every step she takes. Abilities: The aura of sheer cold surrounding Rei's body grants her the ability to freeze things around her to the point where all motion stops; rendering any affected objects completely inert and making them fragile enough that they can be shattered with sufficient force. Her freezing effect is not indefinite however, as things will begin to thaw and regain their motion if Rei leaves the area for long enough, or alternatively, if she decides to unfreeze them herself. Backstory: Rei received her book as little more than a parchment wrapped package while at Academy, with a cryptic note attached from her mother bearing instructions to keep it hidden, tell no one of it's existence, not even her own sister. The letter went on to tell the girl to keep the package safe until she was sent word of where to send it. Rei could not help but consider the gravity of the warning given the insistence that not even her own blood learn of it. From what little context given in the letter though, she could gather that whatever the thing was or how the woman obtained it, her mother felt there was great reason to dread the possibility of it falling into certain hands, and still thoroughly perplexed as Rei was... she decided trust the woman's judgement. What she found inside the parchment was none other than a Codex, bound in a worn, hard cover of pale blue with a white sigil on it's face and back, similarly colored glyphs forming a circle around the inscription as if to serve as a title. The very air itself seemed to drop a good ten degrees as soon as the wrapping was removed, and already, she could see a layer of frost beginning to form on it's surface. Acting more on instinct than anything else, she tossed the thing under her pillow as her sister opened the door and entered the dorm... The Plant Girl - Twin Name: Ciri Mycroft Alias: The Plant Girl Sanity: 11 Age: 14 Alignment: Neutral Good Appearance: Ciri is a tall, pale girl with short brown hair and honey-colored eyes. She generally wears clothes of dark green or blue colors, often leaning more on the comfort side than the fancy side. In addition, puberty is notably into it’s work, giving her the beginnings of a feminine figure. Mutilation: Within the realm of nightmares, Ciri’s appearance changes drastically. Her hair goes from short and brown to long and green, and rather messy at that, and almost leafy in texture. Her skin gains tinges of green, and dirt seems to just randomly make it’s way onto her body - except for her right arm, which seems to actually be some sort of plant. Her eyes are solid green, with no visible pupils. Abilities: Ciri, as her mutilation suggests, has a bit of a plant theme. Her right arm is some kind of extremely tough and difficult to damage plant (useful for both blocking, and clubbing enemies over the head! Versatility!), and she can make plants spawn from defeated foes to lash out at remaining enemies. Backstory: Ciri should never have gone into that house. It was just a dare. It was just to impress him. It shouldn’t have turned out this way. If she had to go into the house, why did she go into the attic? Everyone knows that the bad stuff happen in either the attic or the cellar. Why’d she take the Book of Earth? She needed proof she’d actually explored a bit, but she could have found the Plate of Mundanity or something instead. All in all, that was a series of lapses in judgement, probably because she accidentally took her dad’s drink thinking it was soda. The Serpent Girl - Okami Name: CoraAlias: The Serpent Girl Sanity: 11Age: 14Alignment: Lawful Neutral Appearance: Due to being in a car accident several months prior Cora has Marie Antoinette Syndrome, a mysterious disorder that makes her hair grow white. Her natural color is black, however as her hair now grows without pigment the lower half of her hair is black while the upper is now white. She keeps it styled in a bob and, due to her habit of exploring the forest behind her family’s estate instead of going out in public much, her parents aren’t making her dye it. Cora’s skin is a pale peach and she wears a dark purple, sleeveless dress that reaches her knees along with a black, long sleeved cardigan. She wears red mary janes on her feet with black leggings. Mutilation: Cora’s skin becomes pure white and, staring at her naval, becomes covered in black scales (with the occasional purple accent) and her legs fuse together becoming a large snake’s tail. Cora’s hair follows suit with her skin, the black losing its grip and fading to white as well. Cora’s nails become red and sharpen a bit (as do her teeth) and her eyelids become clear, constantly exposing now red eyes save for slitted, purple pupils. Abilities: According to the Epic of Gilgamesh a snake ate the source of immortality, whenever it was near death it would simply shed its old body and be reborn. In reality that’s just how snakes grow, shedding does help Cora extend her life though. She can create a dummy of herself by “shedding” her skin, and hair, and eyes. While this dummy doesn’t do much it’s pretty realistic and can serve as a decoy or distraction. Backstory: During one of Cora’s adventures into the woods she stumbled upon an old cabin she had never seen before. After using a rock to break a window (the door was unlocked, Cora just wanted to feel like she was a spy) Cora broke in. The cabin, little more than a shack, had some weird red markings all over the place and didn’t smell like how you’d think some place left to nature would smell. After snooping around and nearly giving up (it was pretty boring) Cora discovered a book under a table. Not wanting to stay in the cabin after dark Cora ran home with her treasure to read it there. The War Girl - Notus Name: Petra Alias: The War Girl Sanity: 12 Age: 13 Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Appearance: Petra has black hair, fair skin and clear blue eyes. She is a skinny girl, tall for her age and likes to wear a black tracksuit with details in white, including a crown drawing on the left chest. Mutilation: Petra´s body turns into a predator form, armored by protrusions of black bone. Her hands develop claws and a blue flame lights on her left eye, both it and the protrusions of her body growing as she gives in to the book´s power. Abilities: Petra has the ability of turning parts of her body into weapons for her use. It must be one weapon at a time, and the more powerful the weapon, greater is the toll at her sanity, as the process itself is pretty painful. The weapons she can use are: swords (slim or broad depending if she wants speed or strenght) and a black bone arm cannon (projectiles are also bone, which makes shooting them a... unique experience). She can also make her armour protrusions sharp to have them work as small spikes/axes. Backstory: Petra is the daughter of a feared criminal boss, and as such people her age always tended to avoid being near her. Her best companions have always been books. Eventually, she finished reading all she had in her house and, in a rainy night when she couldn´t get out for a bookstore, she entered her father´s study to find something to read. The title "Book of War" sounded appealing enough, but little did she know that her own battle was about to begin.

Shamitako
I just realized, I forgot something like super important >_< Added a thing to the mechanics section @Strat Your abilities are too complex, focus down a little more on one aspect. It's not particularly clear, I suppose. The singular "canon" example is "The Clawed Girl," who gets "Claws" from the "Book of Claws." The actual effect also makes her faster and stronger, but it doesn't add much beyond "Claws" Additionally I'm not going to allow "mages," which is to say, a power that grants "control over __." You can have the ability to summon icicles. Or the ability to freeze enemies and shatter them physically. Etc. But something as total as what you have now just doesn't fit And your backstory covers a bit too much lifey stuff, just go over the event that directly led to her getting her book

Shamitako
@Strat, K you're good @Okami, Is your power just creating dummies or were you also intending to use her snake nail and teeth to fight monsters physically as well? I'm fine if you were, just wanted to check @Twin No outfit changes. As much as I love Mahou Shoujo, these are not Mahou Shoujo Instead of on/off, have part of you always be a plant when in your mutilation form and the rest of you remain human (for now~) Instead of converting opponents (I don't want "control" being a thing), have plants sprout from dead bodies and lash out at other nearby monsters
