Dark Material/Classified Information

1. I found the item from the title in a cave in the north of the Iolia Valley, after using waterfall to get up there. What can I use it for? Is it for a quest or for something with renovation(haven't gotten to that part in the game yet, but I know it's a thing)?

2. I got this after getting the ring from the underwater village, but don't know what to do with it. Can I already do something with it before beating the Fairy gym?

 

If you answer, try to spoil as little as possible, or at least try to keep in mind I'm not yet past the Fairy Gym, so if something can't be done yet with these items because I haven't progressed far enough, please let me know as well.

The person who wants the Diamond Ring is in a house in Jasper Ward. 

 

@Sara1404 there's no battle for the Diamond Ring part, that's for a later part of the sidequest chain.

He said he got the ring from the underwater village and didn't know what to do with it.

It's in the underwater cities, just search for large diving spots and use itemfinder in each house you enter, you'll get the diamond ring eventually.

They are in the lake near apophyll, coral and peridot.
