Pokemon in Space [IC Chapter #03]

Kai let out a groan, clearly exaggerated as anyone nearby would possibly be able to tell. “Aw, guess he’s got more friends.” Kai looked over towards the path, remembering the Crabrawlers that had been hostile to them. Going with one of the Employees wouldn’t help, and Frederick wasn’t enough of a group to help out. Kai looked over her shoulder towards Frederick. “I’ll go talk to Shelly, if ya wanna keep looking.”

Kai hopped over towards the girl, disregarding the conversation she was having with the woman to speak. “Hey Shelly, Frederick and I are headin’ off to help out the Exeggutor, you wanna help out?” Kai finally noticed the elderly woman to the side, unfamiliar to her. “Were you with us in the Drill? I don’t remember seeing you during the ride.” She looked over her clothes, interested in the designs that certainly made her look out-of-place with some of the Employees. “Where’dja get those fancy clothes, too?”

Kalva and Quina still sat around sleeping Radovan, still stumped. Kalva had a rather limited medical experience. He had treated Pokemon back in 02, and learnt very basic treatment from the Academy; but neither experiences were enough to improvise without such equipment.

After a moment, Quina had an idea. She dug into Kalva's pocket and took out one of the crystals that Kalva had gathered just few moments ago. It still resonated energy - and Kalva realised what Quina was planning to do. They had already seen its regenerative properties before on Poochy - so perhaps it could work with Radovan's status effect as well. Kalva was a little nervous with Quina's experimental treatment, but without berries or medicine of the same particular, they would have to try with foreign circumstances.

A-and, humans can't be too different to pokemon, right?

Tentatively, Kalva took the crystal from Quina and placed it on Radovan's forehead, then waited for what hopefully was Radovan's revival.

Sena look around and see there are 5 tunnel, tunnel number 5 however has gained his interest, he wanted to check the tunnel, but he then overhear Terry's word about the A-comm scanner is not working on mapping the place, "guess this is a job for us," he sighes a bit as Verna fly up from his head, flying around happily before flying down to infront of Sena's face, "Verna can you use Supersonic on that tunnel? My guts says that there might be something interesting" she nodded before flying toward tunnel number 5, "be careful okay? and if you found something tell me" said Sena to the the small bat pokemon, which she reply with a nod before flying away to tunnel number 5 using echolocation with Supersonic.

He began to examine the hole they come in, it oddly look like a whale, it is imposible to say that hole is natural accident, it looks like something fell on it a whale shaped thing might be the cause, a pokemon perhaps? but the suspected pokemon are mostly lived in seawater and pretty sure the water seems sparkly and fresh here.

I think I should try to investigate this, just to be sure, Sena think to himself.

Sena then checked his pokedex on a whale shaped pokemon, Wailmer and Wailord, using the two pokemon picture as a comparison with the hole, "hmmm Mr. Terry, I think there might be a pokemon that was thrown out from its natural habitat," Sena then show Terry a picture of the Wailmer and Wailord, "pretty sure it looks like Wailmer... I could be wrong thought, but knowin that the Nexus is having a weird situation, I think this might be possible." He then looked at Cathode, "what do you think?"

Seeing Morelull wasn't provoked by Taylor's approach at the end, he felt somewhat relieved. He turned back and saw Kalva taking care of Radovan, so he felt like he should just move on ahead.

And to where? The new hole, of course!

Emmanuel hopped down the hole, along with Solosis and Poochy. The first thing that he noticed was not the amazing sight of the crystalline cavern, but rather the cold water. He collected some of the water with his A-Comm, comparing its contents with the water he had collected from the well (At least, its record) previously.

Radovan had fallen into a deep and restful slumber after the Morelull afflicted him with it's ability. And Kalva's timely awakening simply caused him to groggily get back on to his own two feet. He would then nod at Kalva with a warm and friendly smile on his face before he gave the mute kid a long and uncomfortably tight hug.

After a few moments had passed he would simply release Kalva from his clutches before he sauntered over to the next vaguely interesting looking thing in the area. And of course this would be the large and perfectly explicable hole that wasn't there before. He would then wave at all of the little people who had already decided to hop down there with his right hand while his left discreetly took several pictures of the hole with his A-Comm. And after a satisfactory amount of pictures have been taken he would quickly flick through them to find the one he liked the most. Before he would edit the picture to display the caption "So guys, remember the impassable trees we were supposed to find our way around? Well..." in large and easy to understand white letters. And of course he would send that picture over to pretty much everyone in his graduating class and Ray.

Radovan stood there for a few moments as he thought about what he should do next, and after that moment of deliberation had passed he would eventually find himself calling up Ray to say "So do you have any idea where Kai and Red are right now? Also is it fine if I enter that hole?".

Kalva was taken by surprise with Rad's sudden hug, but hugged him back afterwards. He took Rad's hug as an unspoken thank you, and was left relieved that the crystal had worked. He gave Quina a hi-five.

You should get a medal for that Quina! I bet even Aether doctors wouldn't have thought of using the crystals.

Quina waved off the flattery with a little blush. It was a gamble either way, and really, no one knew what was going to happen...but she secretly did like a little praise anyway.

Kalva thanked Zeta too, with a thumbs up. He really appreciated that extra little bit of help (to be honest, he most likely would not have made it all the way to the sinkhole without her).

Kalva picked Quina up and approached the large sink-hole, leaning over the edge with the rope in his free hand. He gulped. He wasn't afraid of heights or darkness, and he had a plenty of experience with ropes from the Academy, but the height sure did make him a least a little squeamish. He then looked at Zeta worriedly - did she know how to climb down ropes? He wrote,

"Do you know how to climb with ropes? I can help you if you're worried."

He wasn't quite sure how he could help, but he was sure he could find a way.

"...a whale? W-well seeing as we are dealing with the fusion of two different nexuses anything is possible but there could be other ways to create such a hole too... like,  a very big ground pokemon like a steelix that purposely dug this hole in order to be left open. Ground pokemon tend to leave the ground as it was  before after burying themselves that's why it should have been purposeful."  Cathode replied to Sena.

"O-on second thought, i have to competely invalidate the case of a falling whale to create such a hole, because things like these create craters when they fall.  Not deep holes with the area around the hall left unscathed. Either something has drilled its way into the ground from above, or... something made its way up from below ground. In both cases, this something must be pretty big..."

On mention of exploring the different tunnels found,  Cathode had to note:

"I-I think in these kinds of situations a viable course of action would be creating groups of two and covering multiple paths at the same time. Starting from the one with the shortest known length towards the supposed longest one.  Seeing the limited range that the A-Comm has covered in this underground area, tunnel 4 is most certainly a dead end. I-I would probably start from there, see if there is anything of note, and then move to either 5, 1, or 2 since I just have this feeling they might be shorter than 3, or at least simpler. I'd prolly choose 5 over 1/2 since it's closer to 4 just to save time though.
What do you thinkg Mr. T-terry?"
She finished while turning towards the large man, albeit still looking to the ground in front of her.

Frederick chooses to look for more of the kidnapped Exeggcute, at the suggestion of Karla. Following the tracks would definitely lead him to some of those Exeggcute, and he was quite sure due to his explorer instinct kicking in. If he found the Exeggcute as he walked along, he'd call Karla and the others for assistance first. As much as he had liked to be a hero, he wasn't too much of a risk taker to do things off on his own alone. If he didn't find the Exeggcute for some weird reason, he'd return to the group to maybe look for another trail.

GROUP 1 (FREDERICK, SHELLY & KAI)

*NPCs at the scene: Uno*

exeggutorquest_by_ninjacyndaquil-dbprziq

"I need to see the Tree of Life. It can help bring health and happiness to anyone. I was also sent to confirm its location. I cannot disclose who sent me, though." Uno responded promptly, nodding to Shelly as she did so. Lampy's lanters flared up from time to time in accordance to Uno's voice, like ripples on the water. Uno turned to Kai when she approached them. "I came before you, actually. I snuck on a Nexus Drill. Nobody noticed me. People were still in disarray from when the Nexus emerged yesterday. My clothes are just that, my clothes. I don't have a uniform, if that is what worries you. I only carry Lampy's Aether Ball with me at this moment." She turned back to Shelly. "If you want to go with them, I'll ofer my help, Shelly. That way, we can look for the Tree of Life together after we're done with whatever you're doing."

[Will Shelly go with Kai? If so, only Strider needs to post, and I'll assume the group went with Frederick. Events will be initiated accordingly.]

Shelly's A-Comm buzzes and a rough voice speaks through, muffled by static. "Hello, Shelly, it's Terrence speaking. We've descended into the underground so the connection is weaker. I'll patch Zeta up to you when she gets down here, all right? But the Tree of Life? That's a weird thing to ask about. I didn't think you guys knew about the legends...anyways, I'll give Zeta to you now. Zeta, it's Shelly on the Communicator. She wants to talk to you."

"Mr. Terry? Oh! Shelly!" The familiar voice speaks through. It's Zeta's. "So you wanna know about the Tree of Life? Sure, I'll tell ya! But wait, is Kai with you too? Hi, Kai! It's super wet down here, you should come over as soon as you're done with whatever you're doing! Wait....what were we talking about? Oh, right, the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is at the center of this world. It makes everything in it alive! Without it, everything would disappear. It can cure stuff, heal wounds, lets you grow up big and strong, and it's sparkly and shiny! It looks like a...uhm...Mr. Terry, what's the name of that letter? Oh, right, it's shaped like a 'Y'! That's what Father always said, hehe~" Zeta closes with a giggle. "Since we're undeground, we're probably close to it. If you're looking for it too, you should come undeground as well! You just need to follow where there's a lot of water, because the Tree of Life is the source of the water."

"So it's undeground?" Uno says, placing her hand on her chin in thought. "I'll go with you now, and we'll go underground as well afterwards." She smiles.

GROUP 2 (EMM, RADOVAN, KALVA, CATHODE, SENA)

*NPCs at the scene: Terry, Zeta*

Zeta winks at Kalva and holds a thumbs up. "I can climb down, don't worry!" She says as she jumps and grabs onto the rope with her elbows and knees, sliding down into the abyss with a smile on her face and a laugh which reverberates against the crystalline walls.

The Morellul climbs onto Taylor and keeps quiet as they descend.

Down there, Terry was about to respond to Cathode when his A-Comm buzzed twice. He opened it to find a image taken from above, sent to him by Radovan. Everyone else receives the image as well. Terry looks up, but only sighs. "Self control. Gotta have self control."

He clears his throat, arm and brow twitching, and holds the A-Comm up to his face, replying to Shelly. When Zeta comes down, he hands the A-Comm to her instead, and while she talks to Shelly and Kai, he kneels down to be closer to face-to-face with Cathode.

crystalmines_by_ninjacyndaquil-dbqspnh.j

"I agree with you, Cathode. You can go check the corridor." He picks an Aether Ball from his belt and throws it out. A pink fluffy Clefairy jumps out of it with a boom and lands in front of Cathode. "Clare will keep you safe if a problem arises, and we're all close by anyways. I need to wait for the others to come down as well."

"I'll come with you too, Cathode!" Zeta adds. "Let's go!"

Verna's Supersonic echoes through the corridor. She hears it bouncing off a watery surface much deeper than what they were standing in. Perhaps there's a pool of water in that direction, or the cave just drops downwards? Either way, only moments later, a much louder echo comes from the direction in which Verna used her Supersonic. It's an echo of a whale, and Sena's A-Comm, already open on Wailmer and Wailord's pages, recognizes it as Wailord's cry.

Terry turns and runs over to the corridor. "It's in the distance and it sounds pained... I doubt it can move through the shallow water and enclosed space here, but it's still a Wailord." A droplet of sweat rolls down his brow. "We should continue on. We can call someone to check on it later." You can hear in his voice he probably wants to help it. He's also probably concerned for you guys as well so he doesn't want to put you in unnecessary danger by going to help the Wailord.

------------------------------------------------------------

RADOVAN

*talking with Ray*

Radovan's A-Comm buzzes. "Hoya, Radovan! Nice pic you sent me!" He hears the sound of teeth being brushed, the gurgling of water, and someone spitting into a sink. "Just a sec, I'm still getting ready for the day, hehe. So you're on a mission? If you've found a hole, great! I'll inform everyone at HQ. You can go investigate, I'm pretty shure. You have Terry with you anyways. No worries, no biggie. 'Neeways, get back to you in a jiffy. Bye!" The connection breaks.

"Thanks a bunch Terry, Zeta. Hopefully that helps a bit Uno?"

In response to the query about where she wanted to go, Shelly shrugged. "Let's go Exeggutor hunting. That could be fun." She gestured for Kai to lead on, and followed with Uno. As she walked though, a thought struck her. "You said you snuck in? Technically, that's something I should probably report. I'm thinking I'm gonna make an exception for now. Later when we either find or don't find this tree of life, I'd like you talk to some of the higher ups, alright? Sneaking around probably isn't something the Aether Foundation wants you to do often."

Radovan quickly sent a message to Ray that basically said nothing but the words "Entering the tunnels soon. And please don't worry since I will try to take care. But will I still have an Aethernet connection when I am inside the tunnels?".

He would then send a follow-up message to Shelly, Red~, and Kai that simply said "You can find us within the tunnel system I sent a picture of earlier. Please take care until we can meet up again.". Before he climbed down the hole and joined up with the rest of the group to try and hang around the person who looked like they knew what they were doing. He would also make damn sure to release his Larvitar once he finally found a person who fit that description.

Kalva checked that Zeta got down safe, and, with Quina holding tightly to his hoodie, slowly descended into the caverns below.

He methodically slid down the Escape Rope, making sure not to make sudden movements in case Quina fell. All the while however, as he descended and his eyes adjusted quickly to the darkness, he could see the crystalline structures that covered the walls of the cave cascade down to the floors. He couldn't help but marvel at these sights - no structure in 02 ever looked like it, let alone anywhere in the Academy. If he had time, perhaps he could take a picture - but for now, he had to catch up with the rest of the Cadets. He focused on getting down as steady as possible.

Quina, likewise, observed the crystals and wondered the nature of the crystals. They had been seen to be capable of replacing organic materials, and it was reasonable that the crystals were able to grow underground through the trees' roots. But was it organic, and could grow beyond the roots and eventually convert an entire area into crystal? Or was it parasitic, and was limited only to the extent of its host? Certainly, the observations looked like it was organic, though they'll have to see the source of the crystals to understand them for sure.

When Kalva was down, he spotted Morelull on Taylor's shoulder, and smiled at the Morelull.

I guess they're thinking of teaming up with Taylor, then! I'm sure they'll make a great team! Though I wonder how Radovan would react if he knew Morelull had rejected him?

He listened to Cathode's suggestion. It did make sense - after all, if there was nothing in the shortest route, then it was much less time that was wasted. He had a strange premonition that the corridor 4 lead to somewhere important, but it would be unwise to rush off on his own...

Then, he heard the Pokemon's cry. It was foreign to him, but the A-Comm told him what he needed to know. Wailord - a very large aquatic pokemon, who could most likely breathe from the water but nonetheless unfit for a cavernous environment. In time, Wailord could very well starve. Of course, finding the root of 08 was important - but if a Pokemon's life was potentially in danger, that put all other matters secondary. When Terry confirmed his thoughts, Kalva put on a determined face and pointed to himself, then down the corridor from which Wailord's cry reverberated. Kalva didn't speak a word, of course, but the message was quite clear. He was going to save Wailord.

"You can't be serious right..." Sena sounds disappointed by Terry's statement, but he's right, underground cave is a dangerous place, especially the one with many water...

Unfortunately it won't stop him from going to corridor 5 but Verna stopped him, "what is it girl? I can't just leave a pokemon behind." Verna just fly around and just give signs that the tunnel might be dangerous, judging by her supersonic. With his pokemon also in disagreement with his idiocy, he finally stand down, "fine, if that what you want then I will stay put." You can see him feeling frustrated.

The water seemed to be identical to the water he had collected before. That would only mean one thing... The spring had its water from here.

... And, it would be possible to find what was underneath the spring from here, perhaps a larger body of water?

The water had healing properties... While the Wailord may feel pain from being stuck in a tight cave, the water would constantly restore its health. That begged the question: How long had it been there?

Upon noticing Kalva's willingness to help out the Wailord, Emmanuel stepped forward and objected. "Kalva, we don't have a reliable way to move the Wailord. We must wait for reinforcements. While it's in pain, it may very well still be in good health, thanks to the healing property of the water here. The catch rate of our Aether Balls would be abysmal against it."

"We'll take care of it later, alright?"

"We'll take care of it later, alright?"

"We'̶l̴l͡ t̕a͝k͝é ͝c͜are̸ o͟f͟ ͡i̸t later,͟ al͘rìght̸?"

Kalva took a sharp breath, his pupils dilating and shaking. He looked down, squinting slightly and face going ever so slightly pale. From the outside, anyone without medical experience would see this as Kalva recoiling like he had been shone a bright light, perhaps prompting some to mistake it for a surge or irritation or frustration. Those with medical experiences would know the reason behind it, even though Kalva tried his best to hide it.

N̶͢͏͞o̸̴͡͏ ̴̨̧́͞n̡̧͟͟͢o̷̧͢͡ ҉̶̵̕͢n͜͠͞ó̡

He felt a warmth behind him, and realised Quina has hugging him tightly, sharing what strength she had with him. Quina. A reminder. He breathed back out evenly and quickly went back through the methodology again. Count to five...

O̡n̶̡ȩ͟,̢͠ ̷t̛ẁo̧ ͜t̡̛hŕ͝ee̛, ̛f̧où͝r͟.̛͞.͘.̶̴five

He brought out the A-Comm. They were at...

N̷e̢x͏us 0̕8͘.͡ ̨Crys̶ta͝l͠ cav͡e.

The reason for this was...

I am travelling with Quina. We need to find the 08's core. There's Wailord somewhere, I need to save them.

After brief moments, he was back with a determined face. He wrote,

"But we don't know that. Wailord could die while we wait for backup. We still don't know how the water works. Why would Wailord cry back to Verna? We need to save them, try to."

He felt he was being selfish, trying to bring the whole team along for his own convictions. Was he hindering them? They couldn't let Wailord die - but the others, they had come for a job elsewhere. Was he wrong to try and save Wailord, against the consensus of others? But...Wailord. He couldn't let go of the thought of a pokemon in danger.

"It's alright if you don't want to come." He put an understanding look, then left towards the corridor.

He started walking to Corridor 5, then slowed down as they approached the unknown section, edging towards perhaps a ledge of some kind. Cave systems were dangerous, and anywhere unlit could be very dangerous. He fumbled with the A-comm a little, then shone it in front of him like a headlight, just in case there was something dangerous in front of him. At the same time, Quina let out a cry to see if the Wailord could hear them and respond in kind. Of course, it would be weaker than a Supersonic. But just in case...

Cathode was about to embark into exploring corridor 4 together with Zeta, but after the latest events, she had to stop short and say to the others:
"I-if something happens to Kalva during the time he is alone in there, it will be very bad. Even if we have reached to a more practical plan of how to explore this place, someone has to accompany him, since it is obvious he won't back down. ...B-besides... that wailord sounds hurt."

Radovan was struck with a sudden bout of indecision after he saw Kalva wander down the cave system by himself. As on one hand he really didn't want to have to go through all of the trouble of chasing after the mute kid and finding a way to deal with whatever giant whale shaped problem that would inevitably await them somewhere in that cave. But on the other hand it is in fact considered rude to not help a man who had already helped you earlier. And admittedly there were worse ways to spend up to a few hours or so than to explore a dark cave with only a cute guy and his Ra-.

Radovan almost immediately stopped with his waffling about after he realized that Kalva was seemingly about to bite off a lot more than he or his cute but unsurprisingly weak companion could chew. And he immediately exclaimed "HE ONLY HAS A RALTS!" before he charged towards the mute kid's last known position. And of course after he inevitably found the man he would awkwardly say "I know that you are probably really worried about the Wailord or something, but you really shouldn't make us worry about your health and safety like that man". Before he attempted to follow their example by telling his Larvitar to SCREECH at whatever it is Kalva was so worried about.

Seeing the issue settled swiftly, Cathode turned her attention back to Zeta the dead-end.  After smiling shyly to her she gestured with her head and said:

"Shall we go then?"

After giving it some thought though she countered with,  "Actually give me a moment".

She approached the morelull near Taylor.

"Hello there cutie. This," she took out the Sporespray from the bag "can store different kinds of powders in it.  Do you mind lending me some of your spore?  Don't worry i made it so it will suck everything in a small wide area in front of it so me or Taylor won't fall asleep. I feel like we will need all the help we can get in this place."

Emmanuel could tell that Kalva had no concrete plans whatsoever, only the heart to do so. The Wailord needed help, not a heart of gold, yet there didn't seem to be a way to get the message across without stirring up more trouble.

Would it hurt to check the Wailord, though? They'd have to pick a route anyway. He decided to keep the thoughts to himself and see through the deal.

Seeing Kalva made Sena realize that he's not alone to save the Wailord, he look around and most of them wanted to go help Kalva saving the poor Wailord, and knowing that, it made Sena glad that somehow that he's not going to save it alone. he look with determination at Verna as she reply back with a nod.

He goes into the middle of the group and says "this is sound dagerous... because it is dangerous but... I'll go help Kalva on saving the Wailord, anyone want to volunteer? anyone whose pokemon is not weak against water type? there might be a very good chance that Wailord would be hostile with it being injured and scared, while the rest can go explore the cave, find something that look important or a way to get closer to our target." he sighs a little bit.

this is going to be a looooong day... but eh let's do this!

Taylor takes Morelull and heads in search of the Wailord.  "We should help the poor Pokemon," He tells the as of yet unnamed Morelull and Jet.  "Your sleep powder can help ease its pain and help us remove it from any dangers without endangering us in turn if it decides to take hostile action."  Follows after Kalva, keeping an eye out for any signs of danger.

Kalva looked back to see many of the cadets following suit, all ready and willing to help save Wailord. This filled his heart with warmth; there were humans who cared deeply about Pokemon - those that had joined the Cadets. This once again reaffirmed his decision to join the Aether Academy in the first place.

As happy Kalva was to see so many friends joining him...the numbers too, was a problem. Wounded Pokemon tended to panic when they faced unfamiliar humans, and Kalva had learnt this over so many odd years nursing them back to health. Getting Pokemon to trust him was always the hardest part, and in this case, injured Wailord would most definitely panic if they found several humans suddenly appearing before them and panicking was the worst possible outcome out of any situation. They had to limit the amount of people Wailord could see at one time, preferably under 3.

Kalva wrote up a sign,

"Thank you everyone! But I think only 3 people should go to help save Wailord. Wailord might panic."

Kalva hoped this wouldn't come across as ungrateful or offensive, but it was important for them to limit the size.

Emmanuel rolled his eyes. He figured that it would be pointless to argue over the number of people in correlation to Wailord's emotional status and the ability to save the Wailord at all. Without much resistance, he turned away and walked south, to Corridor #3. Through the distance between the crystal blockade on the surface and the wellspring, he was able to pinpoint the location of a possible natural reservoir down south, which he marked with a yellow dot on the map.

"I'm going to try to reach the reservoir of the wellspring. Who's coming?"

Radovan quietly sized up his prospects of surviving in a stand up fight with a Wailord for exactly one millisecond before he immediately walked off to join Emmanuel in his quest to not do something that is potentially suicidal.
