[Semi-UPDATED S3] Redemption Viability Ranking

Recommended Posts

Welcome to Redemption's Viability Rankings Topic. In this thread we will be ranking the viabilty of pokemon for challengers (this is not how viable a pokemon is for a leader's monotype).

The ranking has been done based on how good a pokemon is both singles and multi battles, its movepool and its ability to utilize it in only 4 moves throughout the league, how easy it is to fit in a team, if it is outclassed by another pokemon in the same role or the same typing and ofc its stats!

Have in mind that the following list is mostly my opinions so far with the help of a handfull of people that I want to thank them a lot for their feedback. So a big THANK YOU with no particular order to: @Azeria @The Caveman @Bazaro @TheDW66 @Anstane @Shinyrio @Guzam @Quinn @Hycrox

Of course this list is not going to stay the same since I'm expecting more feedback from all of you! Fell free to make any points why a mon should go up or down cause for sure there are going to be a lot of mons that were underestimated or overestimated.

I think Primarina and Alolan Ninetails, Alolan Marowak, and Mega Sableye are  a bit too low. Rotom-W, Clefable, Togekiss, and Roserade are a bit too high. Haven't looked through the list in it's entirety yet. Greninja is also a bit high due to the leaders knowing what moves it carries.

Alolatales was originaly an A+ but Pyrrhon made some very good points why it should be A, since he has used it a lot. I had (Mega) Sableye marked to go up but I didn't get any feedback if it should get promoted so it stayed there. I don't see Primarina deserving more due to lack of speed and subpar defence but it's debatable. Alolawak is kind of too item dependant and that's why I didn't put it higher.
Rotom-W, Clefable and Togekiss are solid mon that can find a place in lot of teams and can fill in a lot of holes due to how varsatile they are with various items. I can see that Rose is a bit too high but I don't think there is a better offensive Spiker outside of Greninja, so I put it higher cause it's the 2nd best in that role.

I presume any that did not make the list are under the "Too weak to even be considered for usage", which is funny considering Nick uses Emolga almost all the time yet it's nowhere on these lists. Then again, yeah, Elec really doesn't have many options and it needs everything it can get against Ground.

Also, I would say that I'm a little sad that Glaceon's low, but then again, it's on the same tier as Typhlosion which sees some amount of play, so it's like "...huh. Maybe it's not that bad".

Overall, though, nice list. Good work.

I'm pretty sure that I have forget to add some pokemon but the pokemon that are missing are mostly unviable. As I saied in the op this is not a list of how viable a pokemon is for a leader's monotype but only for challengers.

Glaceon and Typhlosion aren't bad pokemon, they are just outclassed at what they do from other pokemon of their type! Also while checking I noticed I forgot to remove the marks from Typhlosion (and Noivern :P) that were there to debate if it is was worth to go up. Oooooops, I'll fix it immidiately :P

If anyone beleives that a pokemon deserves more I suggest to make a few points why they should be better rather than just say it should be higher. It helps more that way to categorize them and understand why their more viable from other mons when I am (and other challengers) make a team.

Ah, I missed the "For Challengers" clause. Alright.

I'm not going to debate the rankings, I will leave that to someone who actually knows what they're talking about. But as far as I can see, so far so good.

Oricorio is C-.  In my humble opinion, it should be C, since, while it isn't "slap this on your team to win," or "use this set because it works all the time," it still has enough versatility to work.  All formes are not equal, though.  Fire's prolly the worst for this due to SR.

(Yes, I know the only coverage Ori gets is Rev. Dance, Flying + HP)

I'd petition for B- if this was a thing.

Personally, I feel that Primarina is fine where it's at. I've used primarina for all of S2 and I have to agree that it's lack of speed and defense, really kill it. I find that ( depending on how you invest it ) it can usually take at least one or two hits, and it's definitely got the power to hit back ( especially if you give it Choice Specs ). But the problem is, since it's SO SLOW, you rarely can get off more then 1 attack before it dies. Even with a Scarf, you still need to put a decent amount of EV's into Speed to out speed big threats, and by then, you don't have enough to invest in your bulk to be able to live a strong hit, so if you're not OHKOing you're getting OHKOed. Overall it does it's job adequately, but it's definitely not performing as well as I'd hoped for ( I'm actually  thinking of restarting, and replacing it with something else ). So B tier is probably a good place for it.

Got some free time from studying and I decided to make a few changes in the ranking. I'm going to push more pokemon towards the higher rankings, so they won't feel so empty compared to the lower ones. Of course, everything is debatable so don't take all ranking seriously!
