Make an Alolan (or other regional) Form!

Alex

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised this didn't exist yet tbh. So just make your own versions of Pokemon in habitats they're not usually in, such as Alolan forms.

I'll start it off! Alolan Lanturn resides in Brooklet hill. Since it is now a surface dweller rather than living in the depths, its lanterns have been replaced with some pretty looking flower. This is to lure in Bug-type Pokemon, such as Surskit and Dewpider, before trapping and feasting on them.

Alolan Lanturn

Type: Water/Grass

Abilities: Water Absorb, Rain Dish, Flower Veil (HA)

HP: 125

Attack: 58

Defense: 68 (+10)

Special Attack: 76

Special Defense: 76

Speed: 57 (-10)

this is interesting, let me give it a shot.

Alolan Azumaril:

HP: 100

Attack: 60(+10)

Sp.attack: 40(-20)

Spdef: 80

I won't do a full moveset since that will take a little too much time. however I will explain the reasons for changing types and the stat changes:

Azumarill came to Alola by a trainer who hat lost sight of his Marill. However due to growing up near the the Volcano on Akala Island. Due to the high temprature Azumarill began shedding their fur over generations. To Ajust to the high heat theit type changed as well.

And I introduce Alolan Ekans/Arbok!

Unlike its Kanto variant, Alolan Ekans/Arbok are very kind and nearly harmless Pokémons due its lack of poison, but don't go wary: They can get really mad if you get too close. It's mentioned that A-Arbok's wiggles can heal small injuries from other Pokémons that are around him.

Alolan-Arbok (I won't build A-Ekans due lack of time right now)

Type: Normal/Fairy

Abilities: Healer, Shed Skin, Adaptability (HA)

HP: 70 (+10)

Alolan Gyarados

Type: Ground/Dragon

Ability: Reckless

Hidden Ability: Solid Rock (I was thinking of arena trap but that could trap someone into a dragon dance and that's pretty op)

Attack: 140 (+15)

Defence: 100 (+21)

Sp. Attack: 75 (+15)

Sp. Defence: 79 (-21)

I was thinking it would be like a sand worm with bones covering it's body.

Alolan Magikarp could be caught at a low level in the fishing spots inside Vast Poni Canyon, it would be very rare.

Alolan Bidoof and Alolan Bibarel (be thankful @Maximillion Pegasus ya little twat)

Bidoof and Bibarel were introduced in Alola's mountaineous regions due to their industrious nature. Several studies have shown that they gained the habit of meditating in the mountains, and that meditation resulted in them developing psychic power over generations. Some of them have even shown to be able to convert their psychic power into physical power.

Alolan Bibarel:

Normal/Psychic

Abilities: Simple; Huge Power; Magic Bounce (HA)

Stats:

HP: 79

Defense: 70 (+10)

Special Attack: 65 (+10)

(Mostly from a random thought I had, mixed with a little bit of game/anime lore, creative liberty, and a plot device.  Somewhat in the form of a scientific report/journal entry. This is why I don't try to write creatively.  Sorry for any cringes I induce.)

Alolan Clefable

When groups of extraterrestrial Clefariy came to Earth (??) eons ago, most landed in mainland areas now comprising several major regions of the world.  One group, however, landed on an isolated island chain that eventually became the Alolan islands.  Sticking to what mountains and caves were available, Clefairy scattered around the islands in small communities.  A problem arose when they could not find a source of Moon Stones, which allowed for evolution and were a centerpiece of their cultural dances.  Luckily for their culture, a substitute was found in the form of a chunk of Sun Stone on Mount Hokulani, which radiated a familiar but different feeling than their native stones.  After years of communing near the stone, an change took place one night.  A few Clefairy began to evolve......and the rest is history.  Today, Clefairy are reportedly seen throughout the islands at night, although their only officially recorded location is Mount Hokulani, where the same large Sun Stone is rumored to reside.

From a few documented cases, Clefairy native to Alola still can evolve into their mainland forms through the use of Moon Stones, but most prefer evolving via Sun Stones, possibly for long-held cultural reasons.  The only  distinguishable physical difference between the types is the presence of  a 'skirt-like' pattern of red and orange markings around the waist area and the tips of their ears being red-orange.  This skirt pattern seems to have been the inspiration of  some traditional Alolan dancing outfits for women.

Type:  Fairy/Fire

Abilities: Magic Guard, Flame Body, Dry Skin (Hidden)

Stats:  [Research Underway]             ((I'm not good with this sort of thing.  Fire types aren't normally defensive, but this could one......))

Moves: Being a stone evolution, most of it's moves come from it's pre-evolutions, Clefa and Clefairy.  However, Alolan Clefable are able to learn a few fire moves at higher level (as well as via move re-learners):

--Fiery Dance (Evolution), Mystic Fire (50), Heat Wave (50), Inferno (60),  Burn Up (?)*

*At the time of this report, only one documented case of this move has occurred.  Due to the move's nature of removing fire typing temporarily, it is unknown how this will effect an Alolan form who's main distinguishable difference between it's mainland counterpart is it's Fire typing.  Some speculate repeated uses will revert an Alolan Clafable into it's mainland counterpart. This could be a unique case, but further documentation of Alolah's native Clefable will be necessary.

Not alolan, but I've always wanted a regional variant water/steel Wailord with Higher Defense, Attack instead of Special Attack, and absolutely awful speed. It'd be based on a fusion of a sperm whale and an icebreaker ship and it would be sooooo coooool.

Figure Heavy Slam as its evolution move, Rock Head/Filter/Reckless as abilities, notable moves are Aqua Tail, Heavy Slam, Crunch, Thrash....

I think there was a similar thread awhile ago, but that didn't get into details such as stats and movepools.

Anyway, here's my take.

Alolan Durant

Type: Bug / Fire

Ability: Blaze / Flash Fire / Flambé (This Pokemon's contact moves have a 30% chance of burning) (HA)

HP: 58

Atk: 109 -> 119 (+10)

Def: 112 -> 82 (-30)

SpA: 48

SpD: 48

Spe: 109 -> 129 (+20)

BST: 484

A colony of Durant sneaked into Alola from a cargo ship several decades ago. They were problematic bunches, chewing off wooden houses like there was no tomorrow. In response, the locals prepared a huge number of Magmar and Magmortar, razing their colonies one by one. However, the Durant adapted faster than the locals could, using the blazing fires to fuel their fury. The situation got so out of hand that an entire village got burned down due to the rampant Durant. Then, one day, a sage came to the Alolans' aid. Her Pokemon's mystical flames lured the Durant out of their colonies one by one. However, instead of killing all of them, she decided to take them to the Wela Volcano, saving both sides' lives. From there, the Durant population was controlled naturally by the Fire-type competitors, and slowly, their numbers dwindled to a mere ten thousand.

They now take shelter within the volcano crater, where they feed off the everlasting flames bursting out of the volcano and the occasional Alolan Diglett that passes by underground.

Having discarded their armors, they've lost a significant amount of defense, but they became much more dangerous in return, capable of spreading burns like wildfire.

Why yes, that's 30% chance of Burn with every U-Turn.

Dear Arceus this Pokemon is broken. Flare Blitz at level 1? 30% chance to burn with any attack??

And Napalm Jaws sounds like a boosted in accuracy Fire Fang with a higher chance to burn, but without the chance to flinch. But that burn chance gets boosted with the Flambe ability...once again. DEAR ARCEUS.

Hey, I think I was the one who made the original thread. I like this thread, though; you guys have some great ideas!

Here's an idea I had for a Delta Pokemon from my fangame I'm making:

Fossilium Aipom/Ambipom

Aipom:

  Reveal hidden contents

Ambipom:

  Reveal hidden contents

Competitive Analysis

So, at first glance, Fossilium Ambipom faces the same problems as regular Ambipom: It's rather weak, and it's incredibly frail. It doesn't even get STAB Fake Out anymore. However, it has something most Pokemon would kill for: STAB Technician Storm Throw! With this, it gets access to what is effectively an 180 base-power move that always lands a critical hit and ignores stat changes! It also gets STAB Shadow Sneak, so it can snipe faster threats, and Memento, so it can KO itself to support a teammate when it's about to be KO'd. However, it faces stiff competition from Marshadow, which has the same amazing typing but more bulk, speed and overall power; despite this, it'll still carve a niche out for itself, by virtue of Storm Throw.

Let's do something interesting: Kantoan Cryogonal!

Kantoan Cryogonal was introduced through an accident. Pokemon Poachers had been trying to pawn these off as rare Pokemon in Pewter City, keeping them stuffed in cages and mistreating them majorly. However, they had underestimated these creatures, as the Cryogonal soon found a way to escape, freezing their capturers as they left. There was not a place for them to live, unfortunately, and the coldest place nearby was Mt. Moon. Thus, the Cryogonal adapted, using the Moon stones and other rocks to form their body instead of ice, changing them completely.

Kantoan Cryogonal

Type: Rock

Ability: Levitate

HP: 80

Attack: 40 (-10)

Defense: 40 (-10)

Special Attack: 110 (+15)

Special Defense: 125 (-10)

This typing is pretty rare, so why not. Take this Garchomp!

Alolan Flygon

Type - Ice/Dragon

Ability - Slush Rush, Snow Cloak             Hidden Ability: Winter Tempest (Ice type moves are boosted in Hailstorm by 50%.)

HP: 80

Attack: 60 (-40)

Defense: 70 (-10)

Special Attack: 130 (+50)

Special Defense: 70 (-10)

Speed: 110 (+10) To outspeed Garchomp >:)

Level 1: Dragon Claw

Level 1: Dragon Dance

Level 1: Powder Snow

Level 1: Sonicboom

Level 1: Dragon Breath

Level 5: Double Team

Level 10: Icy Wind

Level 14: Supersonic

Level 18: Dragon Rage

Level 21: Dragon Breath

Level 25: Ice Shard

Level 28: Dragon Tail

Level 33: Agility

Level 37: Hail

Level 40: Dragon Dance

Level 44: Tri-Attack

Level 50: Freeze Dry

Level 55: Dragon Pulse

Level 59: Ice Beam

Level 66: Blizzard

Level 75: Sheer Cold

Not really good at coming up with lore of Pokemon. If anyone wants to do something with this feel free to do so. You can tell that Alolan Flygon is a Pokemon that deals with increasing its own speed while lowering its oppenents.

You got that from Smogon's CAP Project, didn't you?

Anyhoo, here's another idea from my fangame:

Fossilium Lapras

Special Attack: 85

Special Defense: 95

Speed: 60

Level-Up Movepool:

TM Moves:

Breeding Moves:

Flavor: A strange variety of Lapras from the Spiral Desert of the Fossilium Region, this regional variant swims through sand like water. It has a light brown coloration, and wears fossils as a helmet and shell. It is just as intelligent and kindhearted as normal Lapras, and will rescue humans and Pokemon lost in the desert and ferry them to civilization.

Competitive Analysis:

Finally, Lapras gets what it always needed: A decent defensive typing and recovery! With Sand Stream providing passive chip damage and Shore Up providing great recovery in a Sandstorm, it becomes a defensive behemoth. It even gets some powerful STAB Moves, like Bonemerang and Gyro Ball/Heavy Slam to do some damage when it's not stalling. Sadly, its weak offensive stats hinder its potential, meaning defensive sets are its best bet.
