She's frequently confused for a girl around twelve (if not younger), much to her chagrin and vehement denial; she's about as curvy as the average board. She has central heterochromia; her eyes are green on the inner edge (by the pupil) and fade to blue on the outer. 

 

Her casual clothing usually consists of a skirt at about knee length and long socks paired with a blouse and undershirt; the exact patterns and coloration vary, but she tends to gravitate toward gothic lolita stylings in imitation of her favorite idols, though perhaps they end up with a bit too much lace and frills and a bit more pink than is strictly necessary. . .

Backstory: Ayaka was born in a decently-sized town in what used to be Norway; it was the central hub for the villages in the surrounding area, containing a number of important facilities such as a hospital and a train depot as well as schools serving most of the local population. Her childhood was fairly normal, with her family being neither particularly wealthy nor particularly poor. Ayaka was a middle child, with one brother born two years before her and one three years after. Nothing particularly of note happened to her until high school, save for the omnipresent popularity of idols drawing her into the craze as well. Her favorite kinds were always the cool and elegant types, and she did her best to emulate them - though whether she was successful or not was another matter altogether. She decided she wanted to take this love further when she entered her school's talent competition in her sophomore year and won second place with a song and dance routine. (The first place was some sort of homebuilt thorium reactor. Song and dance are great, but she lost her composure a bit in the second half of her performance and it's pretty hard to compete with a nuclear reactor built by a sixteen year old.)  

 

At that moment, Ayaka decided that she would take the love of idols a step forward and become one herself, doing her best to take singing and dance lessons wherever she could while constantly practicing her impressions of her favorite idols at home. Her parents and a few of her friends sent. . . a few . . . letters to the agency when it was doing its scouting, and the rest is history.

FIrst off, if you'll read the setting, all Earthlings are Japanese now. Texas doesn't exist.

 

Secondly, "On stage she's prone to wear something that borders on the obscene, such as a midriff blouse over a super-short skirt, fishnets and high-heeled black boots." Is too raunchy. Idols are wholesome performers, not raunchy performers. The Sexy-Type should be done in a high-brow, tasteful fashion. Watch the reference video for an example. Your clothes should accentuate your figure and accent your feminine charm, but trying to show off as much skin as possible isn't the way to go.

Appearance: Lucinda is rather tall for a girl, at 5’11”, with very dark eyes, dusky skin (as far as Asians go at least) and long black hair.  She usually bleaches her ends white, but otherwise eschews ostentatious makeup.  Her figure isn’t anything special; clear skin, an average-sized bust, and a mildly obsessive dedication to practicing her dance routines (along with everything else) mean she isn’t bad looking, but she doesn’t stand out in photographs all that much.  In person, she generally has a much bigger and more attractive presence, especially in her stage persona, to the point where people who have met her may not recognize her from a photo right away.  She prefers casual, comfortable clothes for daily use, with short sleeves unless it’s really, really cold and a seemingly endless supply of guitar picks stashed in hems, pockets, and hair updos.   When performing, she'll let her hair down, so its flowing movements can accentuate her dance moves.  On stage, she tries to cultivate a retro-styled, ‘foreign bad girl’ persona.  It might not have much to do with her naturally studious, dedicated, and quietly nice personality, but the boys (and a fair number of the girls) back home seemed to think it was really hot, so she’s sticking with it.

Backstory: Born in Japan itself, Hinata Wada was raised by an adoptive single father in Hokkaido.  Her father was a librarian and archivist, who loved the classical music of pre-evacuation Earth.  He successfully instilled his love of learning and music into his daughter, who eventually decided she would bring about a revival of the music they loved by becoming a great and famous idol.  She studied the recordings, biographies, performance styles, and history of these ancient performers, to incorporate their best stuff into her own developing style.  She spent long, grueling years learning English lyrics by heart, translating songs, and practicing the electric guitar.  First she learned the songs, then she started learning to dance and sing while playing them.  Sure, nearly every idol gets their music from a backup band or recording, but that wasn’t good enough for her.  The ancient musicians she loved played their own music, so she would too.  She even took an English stage name, Lucinda, both to help her stand out and as a tribute to one of her favorites.  Her voice and looks weren’t anything special, and she didn’t know how to change that.  But she could dance.  She could play her guitar.  And she could put on a heck of a show, almost no special effects necessary (not that she knew how to get them), and keep it going for hours before flagging.  That was enough to net her scores of admirers in her hometown, and the attention of the agency.

Starting Outfit:  A  sky blue, midrift-bearing tank top studded with rhinestones, tight, white leggings studded with rhinestones, a black, faux-leather jacket, also studded with rhinestones, and a set of sturdy, comfortable, black boots with no heel or (surprisingly) rhinestones.  A set of mildly ostentatious costume jewelry, including a large set of hoop bracelets for each wrist, a slightly chunky necklace with a microphone charm as the pendant, and surprisingly understated stud earings (to avoid hair snags when dancing) finish off the ensemble.

 

Simple Future Coord (fashion next):  A basic dress with sci-fi flare.

 

Accessories:

Jacket of the King:  A white, slightly oversized, real leather jacket covered in rhinestones given to Lucinda by her father.  It's said to have been worn by the King of Rock himself.  She doesn't know how true that is, but likes to imagine it is.  She'll break this special jacket out for big performances.

 

Guitar:  A simple acoustic/electric instrument made of tan wood.  It has a black strap with red and orange flame patterns on it.

Appearance: Azusa is quite tall for a Japanese girl, standing around five foot eight, with a decently slender build and a large bust to match. Her long red hair is generally ungroomed when off stage, reaching down to the middle of her back while untouched; on-stage, it is bound in a ponytail to keep it out of her face. Her attire is quite lax off-stage, generally consisting of quite casual clothing such as hoodies and denim, reducing her profile on the street. On-stage, her clothing is rather less casual, consisting of tasteful dresses cut just right to fit her curves, with a bright red being the primary colour of her stage dresses. She leaves her legs and forearms mostly exposed to emphasise her body, only wearing boots up to her shins to cover her legs.

Backstory: 
Azusa was born on the underside of the recently established Sendo special administrative district- a district devoted to off-world industries in the hope of encouraging some business towards Earth, if not too much-, to a single mother who worked as a hostess for a particular nightclub. Azusa never found out who her father was and her mother was particular devoted to acting for two parents; she'd always wanted a daughter, even if she'd imagined that her father would stay with her, and so she soldiered on out of love for her child. Regardless, between the life of a hostess and being a single mother, it was difficult for Azusa's mother to afford sending her to school, but that she did anyway with all the best intentions, hoping her daughter would go one day off-world to live in the stars, where life would be better for her.

 

Of course, Azusa was rather ill-behaved in school, going around and roughing up bullies and bigger kids who thought they could push around the small poor girl from the wrong side of the tracks. This spread to the point that, eventually, gossip on the streets of Sendo labelled Azusa as the 'Angel-Faced Demon', so-named for the fact that most gangster wannabes would find themselves chucked into nearby garbage receptacles by Azusa, should they be found picking on people or else attempt to pick fights with her. Indeed, Azusa grew a reputation both for her rather striking looks and her strength. For her part, Azusa didn't go around seeking fights, but between her general avoidance of school and her code of justice, it was hard. The teachers at her school, when they saw her, were rather exasperated as they had to inform her that beating up bullies wasn't the best way to deal with them.

 

As she grew up, of course, Azusa eventually dropped out of school after barely finishing her high school education to support her mother further despite her mother's protests, taking odd jobs such as working at at the Furukawa Bakery that had just opened in Sendo. She was eventually discovered by a talent scout for a certain agency when she, working a job as a lounge singer, was found to have potential and a unique look, to boot. When offered an audition as an idol, Azusa decided to take the offer for monetary concerns; after all, what better way to pay her mother back than to work as an idol and earn big money? Also, it offered her a way out of the life of the delinquent. After all, which was it better to be known as, the Angel-Faced Demon or the girl who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks to become a planetary idol?
 
Special Abilities:  

Bancho: If Azusa is the Center, she gets a +10 bonus to Impact, but her intimidating aura makes it harder for teammates to pull off Appeals (Additional 1 point needed for pass).

Totally Fired Up: Azusa jumps into the air and performs a twirl to face the audience with an audacious, cool smirk before raising her fist with a rousing cheer as holographic flames flare up around and away from her, as if to surround her with a halo of fire.

Starter Dress - A slim red dress with short sleeves and a short skirt barely covering the thighs, cut to emphasise Azusa's curves while not adhering too closely to her body. The top has a low-cut collar with golden trim across, just enough to tease any onlookers but not enough to show any of Azusa's considerable chest. Azusa wears dark red fingerless gloves to protect her hands during a performance, and the only things she wears on her legs aside from her skirt are a pair of long, black boots up to her shins to draw attention to her legs as much as the short skirt does.

I realized that Japan had effectively colonized all of us, though I figured that each region of Japan-World would retain some aspects of the local culture, like how when two culture interact, both of them exchange or take aspects of each other and create I hybrid. For example, one Idol is from Old Norway, which I would think would have traditional aspects of Norwegian culture intermixed with the incoming Japanese population. I should have clarified that it wasn't literally Texas, merely the area of North America that was Texas, maybe even just the area in the Southwest U.S./North Mexico, since I'm assuming that state borders don't exist anymore. (Called something like Tekisasu, perhaps?) If the Japanese did their best to suppress previous cultures though, I think I could work with that.

 

I can change the dress, and even the profanity if that would be more fitting. In any musical genre there's going to be challengers to the traditional and conservative aspects of the craft, whether it's classical music or hip-hop. Rodeo is from this school of counterculture, and her style exists to go against the grain. If "Idols are wholesome performers, not raunchy", she's a challenger in (at least attempting) an emulation of people like Elvis, The Beatles, etc., were are beloved and staples now and a part of "proper" culture, but at the time were viewed as obscene and inappropriate. Then again, if the galactic culture functions under the reign of some sort of censoring authoritarian government, that's also interesting. Do they work to make sure that no Idols outside of the norm can thrive? Or do they spread so much propaganda that the idea of a nonconformist idol  is met with disdain or even hatred? I'm imaging a conservative 1940's time where profanity or anti-establishment themes in your music would either end up with your career being destroyed, or society as a whole turning you, sometimes violently.

 

If the whole Hip-Hopista Bad Bitch vibe in the vein of Beyonce or Nicki Minaj is incompatible with the tradition of Idols, what if I made her more of a sensual Shakira type? Sexual, provocative even, but much more subtly. Looking back on her career, Shakira is effectively the Latin version of an Idol, especially her earlier work.

So does this mean that there are regional cultures left in the world, much like how Japan has it's own regional culture? Like is Japan-America different from Japan-Germany and Japan-South Africa, etc. Or is technology and communications so advance that everything is a Japanese hegemony? 

 

You mentioned that there are a multitude of cultures and planets across the galaxy that consume Idol music, correct? Do the idols have universal appeal over these various peoples? I'd imagine that do the variety of human cultures, exasperated by the colonization of far-reaching planets, there's every kind of culture from the most prim and proper conservative folks, to war or chaos based societies. 

 

I understand agencies not wanting to take on someone too controversial, because their agencies, and like you said a bigger audience = more $$$. (Unless of course, they see something new and innovative that gives them the edge in their competition.) Aren't 12-27 year old people of both sexes the ones that would be most attracted to someone raunchy, obscene and in general rebellious? I would think that it's once you start hitting people +45 years of age that you have to worry about that image.

I understand agencies not wanting to take on someone too controversial, because their agencies, and like you said a bigger audience = more $$$. (Unless of course, they see something new and innovative that gives them the edge in their competition.) Aren't 12-27 year old people of both sexes the ones that would be most attracted to someone raunchy, obscene and in general rebellious? I would think that it's once you start hitting people +45 years of age that you have to worry about that image. 

 

There are still regional variations, but mostly everyone's about the same. It's like the differing prefectures in modern-day Japan, just spread out over a wider area.

 

Idols have universal appeal, yes, because idols are the heart and soul of the human race. It is nothing but the love of idols that unites humanity as a single entity. If idols were to vanish from the world, why, humanity as a species would fracture and collapse!

 

Most parents of children aged 12-16 don't want them watching concerts by raunchy, obscene and rebellious. And these kids usually don't have the cash to pay for their own tickets.

Appearance: Lyre is around 5'2" tall and slightly lower then average weight to peoples surprise. She has dark blue hair pulled into a side ponytail or a long braid. She normally wears slightly loose dinem jeans and black tennise shoes  with a light blue t-shirt with a light white jacket over it.

Backstory: Lyre was born to a single mother somewhere in Europe. Her mothers job had them moving around a lot so Lyre never had much of a chance to make friends or call anyplace home. The only thing that was a consent in her life was sweets particularly cakes. No matter where they where she and her mother would always go to the best cake shop in the area. 

 

This contunued for most of her life with her mom not really ever telling Lyre want she did. Though I finally came to an end when Lyre was 15 and her mother died. This through Lyre into a depression for a few years. Tell eventually one of her mother's coworker found something and visited Lyre and revealing that her mother was an Idol before Lyre was born and contuned working as a talent scout after.

 

She keep Lyre away from that in order to allow Lyre find her own way. After hearing this Lyre snapped out of her depression with a new goal in mind she is wanted to see this life that her mom was part of before Lyre was born and stayed in after. 

 

So with a new goal and reason Lyre took a year to recover from her depression and get ready to enter the world of Idols.
