That said he moved forward. With a silent evocation of the Elder Spirits, the halberd he carried in his hands vanished in a flash of black flames, replaced by the lighter, more maneuverable spear he'd looted from Captain Wandrought so many days ago, preparing a strike to end the poor fool.

The impact of Marek's spear spells a quick death for the hapless soldier, who didn't even get a chance to strike back. As he falls, the spare glaive he had been carrying falls out of his hands.

Raising a hand, he waves off the rune cannon mage's question. "Wait until they get a little closer!" But since half the men stationed here are already going in, it doesn't make any sense for the rest to hang back anymore. He'd told them this is what'd happen -- these bloodthirsty sea rats weren't going to listen to him any, not with souls as gunked up as that. "All right, move in! Surround and overwhelm them; don't let them get by!"

"That one's gotta sting," Marcus commented as he saw the wyvern rider drop to the onslaught of pirates. "Time to clean house I suppose, though here's hoping this thing lasts," Marcus mutters to himself, feeling the magic in his tome fade more and more.

Akane looked over at the healer that had just rode up. lt was the meek girl from before. She seemed to always be this quiet. Akane wasn't sure it was due to innocence however. Regardless she didn't really know her name. "Heh, that's the job of a warrior. Besides, a few more scars aren't anything to worry about."

She was still seething about that miss earlier, she wasn't so used to fighting aboard a boat. A gap in her skill. Her people rarely traveled by ship, they were landlocked for the most part. Hardly had settlements big enough for shipbuilding or at least in any fashion that they'd be like this. Canoes maybe, ships... much out of the way realm of possibility. They weren't much for the water or at the very least, Akane wasn't. She'd have to practice it more to improve her technique in these situations. Luckily, there was still plenty of lowlifes that'd make perfect practice. She licked her lips as she ran forward. She once more used an iaijutsu technique. Drawing her sword at the last moment before meeting her prey and swiping at them in the same motion as drawing her sword.

Move to J23, try that attack again,(lronsword))this time on a fighter who's probably not as agile.

It was a whirlwind of fercoity, in those final moments. A jab through the heart, it was all it took for the soldier to go down. No hesitation, just a single fluid action as Marek kicked the corpse off his lance and snatched up the Glaive as it fell, Lance in one hand and newly acquired pole-arm gracing the other.

 

There from his side came a shout he was most familiar with, the cry of the indigenous Brigand, and he turned just in time to feel the heavy axe bite into his shoulder, but his retaliation was just as swift, before the man could pull his weapon back, already darkness surged around Marek's lance...

"Oh, you think you can fuck with Brigand's Bane, mate? Think you're the one pirate to rule em all?" and with that he called forth to the heavens "O' NIGHTLY FATHER, HOLLOWED BE THY NAME- SHOW HIM THE EDGE OF OBLIVION!"

And yay truly, for answer his god indeed- or at least the spirits of the dark -did, as several more spears of ethereal night blossomed around the warrior's own, surging forward and perforating not just the flesh of the Pirate, but just his very soul as well. Though the divine wrath the rider had called down had not been enough to fell him, the buccaneer was still left barely within an inch of his life, both body and spirit shattered...teetering ever closer to the valley of the shadow of death.

 

But before Marek could deliver the final blow, there was an arrow, finding it's new home in the same shoulder that had been assaulted mere moments earlier. With a scoff, the Rider turned on the archer, snapping off the end of the projectile and tossing it back at the man with surprising force, arms outstretched in challenge as he addressed the man in  utter disgust, ebony aura emanating off his very being.

"Ha...hahahahahahaa.... aaaaaah. IS THAT THE BEST YOU GOT, WORM!? PATHETIC! IF YOU INTEND TO LEAVE THIS SHIP ALIVE, THEN SHOW ME THE MIGHT THAT CRUSHED THE CAPITOL, OR I WILL GRIND YOU INTO THE DIRT UNTIL NOT EVEN DUST REMAINS! YOU BETTER START RUNNING, SON, CAUSE YOU'RE ABOUT TO EXPERIENCE THE WRATH OF THE FATHER JUST LIKE YOUR FRIEND HERE!!!"

 

A step forward, bringing up his lance to strike down the Archer, a war cry peircing the air between them. By the time the elder ones showed him the flash of splashing waves and boots hitting the deck however, it was already too late. Coming out of the warning trance, he once more turned just in time to see another of these damn sea rats ambush him, this one's axe carving into his ribs. And like that, the aura surrounding him faded, as he viciously tried to skewer the man as he had the first one, only to find his strength failing, the world fading, as the lance and glaive both slipped from his grasp and clattered to the deck, and he followed soon after on a knee.

"T...think you're a... big man now, don't ya... mate? Think you can gloat... cause you took out Brigands Bane..." 

hehehehehehehehehe HAHAHAHA, you're... you're gonna have to try harder... than this. Much...Much harder. When I get back up...

you're fucking dead, wandrought... ya hear me? DEAD!" and with that final bit of defiant fire, he collapsed to the deck, applying what pressure he could to his wounds as consciousness slowly escaped him, and he faded into the abyss...

"A warrior's job..." Herrman's lips momentarily twisted into a soundless cackle at Akane's words, only to loosen once again into her usual half-smiling aloofness. "I wouldn't know..."

[Raindrop Valkyrie]

A clean cut across the chest, simple but effective. ln the same motion Akane flicked her sword, the blood flying free. Crimson droplets, the end of life, but a scarlet rain. The whole motion a blur her blade back in it's sheathe in what one might call the blink of an eye. lt clearly wasn't truly that fast but the eye wasn't always the best at tracking quick movements. Akane satisfied her stroke was much more on point this time. Perhaps these ships weren't as hard to fight on as she thought, but now was not the time to let their head soar the clouds. This was battle and it was far from over. Despite this Akane couldn't help but notice something in the distance.

"That man... an Onigari? lt can't be. Why would they fight amoungst the Gossians?" Akane couldn't help but wonder. Her people were not on good terms with the Gossians. There was several terms that were less than flattering in their language for them. To be fair the Gossians probably had more of their own for the Onigari. However, it was unmistakable. His dress clearly that of one of her people. lt wasn't anything as traditional or fancy as the kimono Akane wore, but it wasn't not the garb of a Gossian. She figured he was in some way coerced but she'd have to speak to him to figure out what was the meaning of his place amoungst their forces. He just had to be Onigari  unless he was an imposter... she'd kill him herself is he was. She turned looking for the cowardly bard, perhaps unfair but all she knew of the man. "Little Bird, l'd ask for your assistance. Our Allies may be more pressing however, the choice is yours. Make it."

No pressure... Honestly, did she have to phrase things so direly? Then again, this was a battle for their lives. Still. And when had he become "Little Bird"! He had a name, and although that name was also coincidentally shared with a small brown songbird, he didn't appreciate the little pet name. But now was not the time to argue semantics (at least "Little Bird" was preferable to "Coward") -- he jogs over quickly and plays a little tune.

 

"I choose to fight. Er, I choose to help you two fight."

"I've got your back, let's move up." Arthur delays his run so that he arrives later, rather than sooner. His target this time, a mage. He grimanced steeling himself for whatever magic was in store for him. Magic was a rarity where he fought, and it was a lot more painful than swords and axes and spears and arrows. Hopefully one attack would be enough. 

 

Move to H23, attack Mage 2

Arthur's strike cleaves through the mage's robes and heavily injures him, but the mage is able to fire back a wind spell that slices through Arthur's armor as well.

"lt's all l ask for Little Bird. That you sing. Leave the bloodletting to me." she wasn't so sure this was the best use of the lads talents, she was sating her curiosity here. Perhaps a dangerous thing for a battle but she had to know why one of her clansmen choose to be here and more importantly, the enemy side. She placed her hand on the hilt of her blade, ready to draw it for another strike if need be. She didn't expect an outright attack from the man, however it didn't hurt to be prepared... especially given her circumstances were... interesting.

She calmly walked through the battle past the withering enemy lines. She had a mission and one she wasn't about to let the vermin stop her from. She'd cut down anything in her way, just as she always had. Luckily she didn't have to do such, she got there rather unaccosted. Up close she was even more sure of her purpose, lt was much clearer to her he was one of her own. lt was probably just as crystal clear to him if not even moreso. Akane wore what was unmistakably a kimono, a garment of her people. But, lt was something all the more. lt was one that a story cloth was sewn into. lt was a record of her clan sewn into a garment. This had a significance that any Onigari would immediately recognize. That her clan was gone, that she was the only one left. That she was a Nameless.

"You, why are you here? And quickly, out with it. Just because you are a clansman does not mean l won't cut you down if l must." she said clearly indicating to him where her hand was resting.

Move to l20, Talk to Merc 3.

Advancing further down the ship and trying to keep an eye on that inkheart Brandeau's men, his attention isn't completely on the skirmish happening in front of him. Already, more than a few of his warriors have complained about this whole thing, and it's not as if he doesn't have enough on his hands.

 

To his surprise, a sole figure emerges from the clashing of iron and spells further down the ship, and his hand instinctively goes to his blade, expecting that someone had gotten ambitious and is trying to rush him alone.

 

And maybe that is the case, but it's not the prospect of combat that surprises him, but rather the nature of the person approaching him. A glance is all it takes. An Onigari, among the knights they're supposed to take out? That . . . doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Then again, he's one to talk. And not just any, but a Nameless. A remnant of some catastrophe, no doubt. His expression darkens, but he doesn't sense any immediate threat from her; she seems more curious about him than anything else. He can say the same for her.

 

"Because I need to be," he replies with the same forthrightness with which she had spoken to him. There's no need for mincing words between Onigari warriors. "The way things are at home, I have no other choice." His eyes flick down to the patterns woven into her kimono, and his tone loses its bluntness for a moment in acknowledgement of her suffering. "So you still fight, child of the All Mother. It's too bad we ended up on opposite sides."

[Raindrop Valkyrie]

"l am but a sword of vengeance. Who l was before my clan was eradicated, she died long ago. Even if l speak that old name as l have the privilege... l do not recognize it as it once belonging to me. So, l still fight because as it was all l was born to do. The Queen's Guard is but a means to an end. The means for this Nameless Demon to devour the injustice and horror committed long ago." she said, clearly referring to herself and no other. lt certainly was no normal thing for one to call themselves a demon. But, she knew she was naught more but a embodiment of revenge. She was born into the world that day, not as the young girl Akane, but "The One Armed Demon". She only learned to fight, to enact this revenge. Her previous life... she was no warrior.

"So, you aren't an enemy of mine. Only the Gossians, only those that put up with one such as the Bloody Baron. Those that would call men such as he, heroes."

"Now then, let's get you back up. You're too young to go dying"

"Heh... damn right about that, mate." The rider was back on his feet a few moments later, using the lance to steady himself. Seeing the corpses of several of those who'd assailed him though, he couldn't help but feel a smidgen of disappointment.

"It's a shame though, really. I was hoping to end these bastards myself. Eye for and an Eye and all that... eh, not like it matters in the long run though. Still got a city to save and whatnot, best get back to it."

 

He could feel Erce's eyes burning into the back of his head in the distance though, as she slowly stood down from high alert, wings returning to rest and her fangs no longer quite as prominent. Scales had begun to shed off parts of her at even faster rate, but she had seemed to forget about the irritation. She really did worry too much at times, Marek couldn't help but think. Though, her worry and fury quickly transformed into eye-roll inducing annoyance as the boy flashed her a quick smirk of reassurance, signalling it was all alright. 

 

One of these days, she was certain he was going to let that bravado push him into doing something stupid, and she would have to be the one to pull his ass out of trouble...

"Anyway, thanks for the first-aid," He said, turning back to Marcus. Of course, most of his injuries still throbbed and stung, all those deep hacks left by those sea walking scumbags. But he'd live, and that was enough for him.

[Bfroger6]

The Troubadour rushed towards the grounded Wyvern Rider, her face awash with worry. She didn't even think twice before deciding on what to do next-heal him, and heal him good. Completely ignoring Marcus nearby who'd already helped Marek up, and also all the enemies, she shone her healing staff up above her head, reflecting the sky, the sea and the sun.

 

"M-mr. Marek, hang in there, I-I'm here for you now!"

 

Move to J23, 'Heal' Marek

"The Bloody Baron . . . " he muses for a moment before exhaling and shaking his head. "It's not my job to tell you what you should and shouldn't do. If this is the path you've picked, then so be it. I can understand what it's like, to want -- need -- to fight for your clan like that." He frowns, as if a dark thought just crossed his mind. "As an Onigari, we fight until the last warrior, so I have to admire that ambition. Here, I have a feeling this might help you."

"A fine blade. A bit heavy, but it'll do. Thank you." Akane said while inspecting the blade. lt definitely was of a more Eastern build, a longsword she believed they called them. She wasn't as used to these blades, but she'd used them in a pinch before. A bit unwieldy for her tastes... she preferred the katana and other curved swords of the West. Nothing was truly wrong with the construction.
