aliettite
Now this was at least something Wren could morally get behind. He doubts very highly that Lord Leofric would have legitimately employed thieves into his ranks, so more likely than not this man was just some horrid opportunist trying to cash in on the chaos without getting caught. As much as he was still unwilling to go any farther against the nobleman outside of keeping his fellow Queen's Knights from dying... the petty thief could go. And would go. aliettite
But Lord Leofric, it isn't what you think, I'm not a part of this, I am simply doing my duty to protect my comrades, I never wanted to fight you, they are in the wrong-- Whatever protestations could have been said die on his tongue before they leave his lips as the glint of the man's blade catches his eye a split second before the swing connects. He'd seen men cut down in the thick of battle (especially now), and read of descriptions of the experiences one has from the strike of a blade, but neither had prepared him for the agony of what he was experiencing. Crumpling to his knees like a dropped stone the moment the sword in pulled away, Wren doubles over with a choked cry -- voice catching with a wet cough as the intake of breath only exacerbates the pain now radiating through his entire body. He clutches at his chest, hands, wrists, and arms coming away red where he'd tried to wrap them about himself, rising sounds of panic coming instead of words as he tries to find them. He was going to die, he was going to die, he was going to die-- "L-Lord--Lord--" Wren looks up at Leofric, the fear of his imminent mortality clear in his wide eyes as he tries to draw in enough breath to speak. "M-Mercy--mercy--mercy L-Lord--" Edited June 27, 2017 by aliettite
Zetaark
"You know, if you explained things a bit better before all of this, the whole fiasco now could be avoided. Though having said that, I think I've found out enough about this place to know that its not to my liking. But let me get something straight here. But it sounds to me that you had something to do with the death of this kid's parents, then took him as a gladiator. How close to the truth is this hmm?" Marcus looks towards Leofric, waiting for an answer.
rokubiraijuu
Regarding the other nobleman before him, doubled over and bleeding badly, with a marked dispassion, Leofric swings his arm leisurely, flicking the blood and bits of gore off its gleaming blade. "I should pity you. Indeed, what will they say to your family, when it comes out that you had defied the Queen's law? You should know better than to beg for mercy, poor Wren. Cheeping just like the little bird you're named for . . . " With a placid smile, he turns to look at the monk who steps up to him. "Is that an accusation?" he replies levelly, raising his eyebrows slightly. "You're not wrong, Sir Knight. But I see you don't know the whole story. This brat's mother was a fine noblewoman of a house in very good standing. She was going to be promised to me when she chose instead to . . . " His expression sours, twists momentarily as though he's just smelled something rotten, " . . . elope with . . . well, he was really only one step above a waterlogged rat who could talk." "Don't you talk about my dad like that!" Biting his lip so hard it bleeds, Noah has to steel himself, arms trembling — whether from grief or rage, it's hard to tell. "My mom wasn't engaged to you — she hated you. She told me all about it. How you chased her, wouldn't take no for an answer. My dad treated her better than you ever could have." "Is that what she told you?" Leofric chuckles. "Well, women do get these silly ideas sometimes. I assure you she was interested. She just liked to play games with me, that one. Regardless." He turns back to Marcus with a pleasant, blank smile. "Perhaps you're not familiar, Sir Knight, but here in Sathor, kidnapping a noblewoman is punishable by death. And as for lovely Freya . . . well, she had disgraced herself. No woman like that could have returned to civilized society. I did her a favor." "I'm going to kill you. I'm gonna — I'm going to kill you, you sick fuck." His hand tightens so hard around the handle of his axe that it hurts and his muscles start to cramp, but he hardly notices. "My mom turned you down and you never got over it, so you decide to — ?" "I suppose I could have disposed of him, too," Leofric continues, ignoring the boy and speaking over him as easily as though over a dog's barking. "And I should have, if I'd known what a mess this would be. Alas, we don't always make the wisest decisions. I am sorry you all had to get involved in this, but you will return the boy to me, yes? As befits your duty to the Queendom."
aliettite
Wait... So he had... Sure, the social laws were pretty clear on the outcomes surrounding woman's improper choice of affair -- he had heard his sisters talk time and time again about the importance of marrying well, and even his mother had told him to be mindful of the same thing when the time came -- but to go so far as to force your affections onto another when they were unreturned... And to kill a woman's husband, regardless of his social standing, taking their child as a gladiator.... that was just... Wren is left gaping up at the other man now, his fear shifting now into abject horror and repulsion. How could a man of such high birth and standing act and think so deplorably? Why, these actions were more foul than even those of the lowest dregs of society could muster up! This was a man who shared tables with other noblemen and woman like his mother, father, brothers and sisters! ...how many more were like him? No, surely he must be the only one -- an outlier, a blight upon his class and prestige. That had to be the case. "T-that's vile..." Wren mutters, barely intelligible at this point. Sutoratosu
"..." The wyvern snarled it what almost seemed a motley mix of disgust and contempt as they flew away from the forested Cache. Her rider knew naught exactly why she stared so fixedly upon the Lordling they'd sworn to kill in the distance. But he'd known her long enough to interpret enough of her overall judgement from... whatever it was she was hearing that he could not. "What's that Erce? That dastardly asshole of a nobleman definitely deserves to die? Huh, wonder what they're talking about over there...ah well, you got better hearing than me, so I'll just take your word for whatever's going on. Raindrop Valkyrie
"We'll deal with what comes Inkheart. It's sad knowing there is people that care about filth like you. But... it's predictable really. Most of them probably as morally bankrupt as you. People who believe humans can be treated as property. Funny how we ended up here... I knew you were filth the second I saw you Inkheart. Your soul stained in ink and tar. Black, full of nothing..." She stopped for a moment sheathing her sword. In reality, she put down her blade for now to allow the victim of this Inkblood what was rightfully his. Vengeance. "We're all judged before the Mother of the World. You'll be found... wanting. I can see your wickedness, she will certainly see it. When all is lain bare... I'm sure you weave quite the tapestry of depravity. For you're anything but a noble. You're naught more than a rabid beast playing make-believe... hell, that's insult to the beast. It's got more worth than you..."
Twinwolf
Elise really did not like how the whole engagement had gone, if she was honest. Ethically, she had no doubt they were in the right. She and her family had never liked the whole slavery thing in the nation, or the gladiator stuff. From what she gathered though, they were in the legal wrong here - granted, she wasn't sure of everything, having missed the reasons that it started. It didn't matter now, at least. She headed in and tried to thwack the nobleman on the head with her lance - not aiming to kill, although he may bleed out from his wounds without healing or one of the others might finish him if he didn't go down from this. One down, thwack
InnocentSerenity
“Is that supposed to make me regret what’s happened here?” Rokan shot a glare at the man, his hand gripped tight around his bow. “A disgrace to people of your class. To resort to this just because you couldn’t admit to a one-sided affection. Maybe we should remove a treasure of yours to make sure no other woman would want you.” Rokan brought his bow up, quickly reaching for an arrow from his quiver. “Consider this mercy.” “Noah, follow our lead!” Rokan aimed his bow, quickly aiming to leave barely conscious. “It’s your turn!” Move to M23 and attack Leofric Edited June 28, 2017 by InnocentSerenity

aliettite
Pushing himself shakily to his feet -- clutching his head as his vision swims before his eyes as he rights himself -- Wren wills himself to move, trudging pitifully over to where both Marcus and Rokan stand. He takes a few deep breathes (or as deep as he can, with the pain wound still clouding most of his ability to do much of anything currently) looking between the two of them before bringing his flute gingerly to his lips. One long note plays. "Get--him." This was foolish, this was all foolish, and now he was actively breaking the laws he was supposed to uphold -- but if Wren Cross was going to die, then so help him Goddess he was going to die on a good conscious. Lord Leofric may be a man of noble birth, but he had the soul of a baseborn dog, enslaving a noble boy out of spite and deplorable indecency of morality. A man like that didn't deserve to besmirch his social standing. He deserved to be brought to trial and atone for his crimes... but in this specific case, it would have to be the Goddess herself who passes judgment for his sins against his fellow man. Move to M22 to bard Marcus and Rokan!

rokubiraijuu
Rokan's second arrow strikes true, incapacitating the nobleman as it pierces his leg, making movement painful. Rokan: Attack: 9 Hit: 89% Crit: 10% Leofric: Attack: -- Hit: -- Crit: -- Rokan's attack, 17, hit! Leofric is defeated with 9 damage! Noah wastes no time. He rushes forward before Leofric can even turn to face him and meet the end that's been coming for him for almost two years. A single swing of the axe severs head from shoulders with a grisly snapping of bone and a spray of blood. Noah stares, grip so tight around his axe that his knuckles are white, as the body slumps onto the dusty road, the head rolling several feet away and leaving a red-spotted trail in the dirt. Jaw clenched, he scoffs before lowering his axe. "Damn. Would've liked him to scream or something at least." Instead he'd looked so damn accepting of what was coming to him, secure to the last in his righteousness. VICTORY! Finally, the streets of this residential district appear to quiet down, the dust and tumult settling. The sound of hurrying footsteps come up from behind the group, past the last row of houses. "I don't believe it. We're actually too late!" "You know, if you two hadn't taken your sweet time back at the tavern, we would've been here at least a while ago." "So he's dead, then, Leofric." Walking up, Sterling regards the corpse with a passive kind of study. "We thought this might happen, so we rushed back as soon as we left Rooz with a friend of ours," he explains, looking up at the Knights. "You probably realize that this is a sticky situation for you all. Luckily for you, the Lorelle City Guard is . . . " "Lazy, completely useless, and only motivated to get off their asses by bribes?" " . . . In a few words. So they're unlikely to come after you at least for a little while. But the townspeople have probably seen what's happened here, and the death of not only a high-standing Duke but the Duke of Lorelle right before the Games is not unsubstantial." "Come on, get to the point already. Basically you guys should probably hightail it outta here," Grayham cuts in. "Like, at least lay low for the rest of today until things die down. We'll take care of cleaning up the bodies and stuff and trying to knock some sense into our troopmates that aren't dead — or, uh, eaten." "Don't remind me . . . hurk." "There's a roadside inn not a couple of hours from here if you go through those woods and follow the path. I'd advise staying the night there before making your decision whether to come back here in the morning or not." Raindrop Valkyrie
"We are truly free from any guilt. I feel like running only makes us seem guilty. However, these... civilized lands seem to rarely truly be on the side of justice. The truth is rarely valued. The narrative that best suits the court is that which is chosen. For as civilized as these places claim to be... they lack in values. After all... it breeds monster like that Inkheart, and further, give them power over the lives of others. This civilization lacks the judgement for something that simple... So perhaps it's best we do." She wasn't really concerned with what they did. She was only here to follow along. Her mission was the thing of most import to her. "Oh, and this is yours." Akane said handing a bloodied arrow to the archer. "In the future, for the next time you shoot an arrow at the One Armed Demon, if such is fate and we end up on opposite sides once more... make sure I actually die." she said in an incredibly flat tone. It was unclear if she was trying to be intimidating or... actually offering advice.
InnocentSerenity
“I’ll take your word for it, then.” Rokan put his bow away, strapped onto his back. “Sorry for the.. little mess at the end there.” The archer shot a glance at the kid that had just decapitated a man with an axe. Certainly would make a proper good executioner. “If the others are fine with it, keep whatever gold he had on him. Sort of a payment for cleaning the place up.” “I’m getting my stuff back.” Rokan spoke to no one in particular, loud enough for his allies to hear. “I’ll catch up, don’t worry.” The man began to make his way north, paying no mind to the bodies still on the ground, unconscious or lifeless. As he continued walking back, he muttered quiet incantations, barely heard by anyone. “Give these soldiers safe passage. Allow them happiness in wherever it is they are sent from here.”
Pyon Pyon Kyuu!~
"We really shouldn't have gotten involved in this mess." Arthur sighed, putting his weapon in it's sheathe, and the sheathe and his shield strapping them to his back. "But I wouldn't allow myself to leave my companions behind. I can leave my things behind... I pretty much have all my belongings anyways." He stretched his arms up attempting to relax even under the weight of the armor.
