Hey y'all.

I started Reborn a couple of days ago and am currently making my way through the slums in Obsidia for the first time. I'm not a novice Pokemon player, but I'm also not savvy with the more IV/EV/competitive side of things that Reborn requires for the tougher battles, either. What I'd like to ask of you guys is to maybe toss a tip, strategy, or potential good Pokemon or item location my way, based off of where I am now (beginning of Episode 2). Just be vague with more specific things, such as "you can get *THIS* exact Pokemon in *THAT* exact location; I like to do the thinking and exploring myself.

Thanks in advance.

My team so far: Quilava (Blaze) Lvl: 23   (Tackle, Ember, Smokescreen, Flame Wheel)

Noibat (Infiltrator) Lvl: 20   (Wing Attack, Screech, Gust, Bite)

I'd like to explicitly state that only having two team members will make you run into trouble the moment you get a bad matchup, e.g rock solidly defeats both of your pokemon (insert sans meme here). Generally it's a good idea to have more pokemon even if you intend to replace them in the near future, if only for the sake of a free switch. But to give a few semi-vague hints:

-The slums hold some decent pokemon. Do any of them evolve before your current level cap?

-Obsidia also has an alley near the opal ward, housing several unique pokemon.

-Check out the game corner, you may find it interesting.

-Pay very close attention between the second and third gym. There are some extremely good pokemon available at this point.

  • On rainy days, in the coral ward (Accessible just after the slums) there should be a Lotad on the pier. This will cover that nasty rock weakness, as well as taking care of fire, and any ground types.
  • On sunny days, in northern peridot (Near the big gate that you can't enter) There's a Budew (In case the Lotad isn't appealing)
  • It wouldn't kill to get some bulk, so a grimer might be useful (Fishing in the bad water)
  • In onyx ward there is a casino, for 1000, 3000, and 5000 coins respectively, there is a: Slugma, Nidoran M, and a Shinx. (The coin case can be found in the gym) the Nidoran and Shinx could be very valuable.

Anyway, some of those pokemon could definitely help you. However as a last recommendation, it may be wise to pick up a psychic type pokemon, doesn't really matter which, there are a couple you can grab at this point.

As a bug monotyper, I couldn't agree more with this statement. I'd also suggest to get some good grass types from the Obsidia park, when you reach it... Some cool stuff exists there! No spoilers :)

i am casual player as well (i do not know how to ev/iv train) but i am a tactician. my advice to you is catch everything you find and try it out, never be afraid to change up your team, and i cannot stress this anymore vigorously FIND OUT WHAT THE FIELDS DO!! that is all

Funny enough, I played through Reborn with a main team of seven. You can use whoever you want, but here are some I found useful:

  • Noivern- if you keep Noibat long enough, your patience will be rewarded. Keep in mind that stage is horrible, and you can find one at a higher level later, but it still does well
  • Magnezone- you may have heard it a multitude of times, but Magnemite's family can exploit the heck out of the field effects
  • Leavanny- if anything, it is fast and hits hard
  • Bronzong- one of my least favorites ever, but I use it since it is an excellent trick roomer
  • Scrafty- good coverage, but please DON'T be like me: get one with dragon dance

Again, it's up to you. I would tell you where to find them, but I don't want to spoil everything. I will just tell you that you are the closest to getting a Sewaddle.

There are a lot of hidden items everywhere, so try checking rocks and shrubs. I really recommend picking up an Espurr in Peridot Ward, it's one of the best pokemon you can get at this point, and it was a godsend for some of the earlier to mid gyms for me. A Kricketune with Technician and Fury Cutter is great for the early game, but falls off afterward.
