[IC] I Wanna Be the Best Monster-slaying Idol in the Galaxy! (Intro Chapter)

Code: PIRULUK

Recommended Posts

The curtains stand before you, drawn. You hear incessant chattering from the other side, indicative of the mass of people waiting to listen to your first performance as a group. This is your start line, your launchpad. Do well here, and your career launches into a stellar (literally) start. Do badly, and it all comes crashing down before you even started. This is the do or die moment for you, as well as the four girls who stand at your side.

There's just one tiny problem: you're all strangers. You were told nothing. You were given no warning. You know the song and dance, at the very least - it's the same you were told to sing for the audition - but most of you have never met each other before today. And now you're supposed to go out there and perform. This session has apparently been marketed as "The First Live of the Next-Generation Miracle!" - advertisements had been sent out all over Earth, though somehow none of you had read anything about it, presumably due to being too worried about the audition. It's perfectly normal. You should perhaps have suspected something when you were told to arrive in your idol outfits, but even if you had, it would have been too late to prepare anything, lest you miss the chance of your lifetime.

So this is that chance. A chance to make your first big splash. There's still a couple minutes left till the curtains open.

Reviewing your audition, you recall that you're supposed to perform the song Bon Bon Voyage. You go over the song in your head, recalling the unique dances each of you did for the audition.

Then time's up. The curtains open. The stage is yours.

Audience Count: 10,000

Bond Benefits: None

Stage Type: Cute

Song Type: Cute

((Instructions: Write up your performances. EZ. Once everyone has a performance post in stating their emotional state + Thoughts + How they're dancing, I'll cue you in for Appeals, then y'all can decide who does each Appeal in which order. For this performance, there is no Center.))

Yuki wrote a 人 kanji on her palm and brought it to her mouth as if eating it. Yuki wrote a 人 kanji on her palm again and brought it to her mouth as if eating it... Again. She must have repeated this action several times trying to keep herself calm. Half of Yuki was excited, finally she was going to be able to perform outside of Home! Finally she would show the universe what she was made of! Finally she would get her chance! However, 100% of Yuki was scared of messing up and nervous nervous nervous. However she wouldn't let it show. She gave it her all to make her legs stay still on the ground, stopping her arms from trembling and controlling herself perfectly. And she couldn't let her sister see her nervous. Before it started, Yuki went over to Yuri. She grabbed her sister's hands with both of hers holding them tight for a few moments. "Do your best okay? I will give it my all as well." She gave her sister a wide smile, and went back to her position. She didn't feel comfortable reassuring the other girls, she didn't know them at all. But she knew her sister enough to know that that little gesture could matter.

Moments later, the song had started and all thoughts cleared from Yuki's head, her brain process becoming nothing more than motions and giving herself into her muscle memory. The first verse started and as Yuki sang 'Bon Voyage' she raised her left arm as she kept her right one on her hip and following her arm with her eyes. She then looked back straight at the audience, and brought her arm down with her wrapping it around herself and swinging from side to side to the beat. Then she opened them up again, just as the beat started to pick up and the verse ended Yuki took the time she wasn't singing to jump up, and wave at the audience with a genuine smile. Even if she was nervous, even if she was scared of messing up; she was happy to be there. She was happy to be on stage, having everyone look at her. And she wanted to show this, as she smiled and waved at the people.

The song kept going, and Yuki took a step back to align herself with the rest of the group. Her dance evolved into an arms sequence where she place both hands on her head and twirled then she brought them down swinging them to the beat, and then placing her left hand on her hip and making her right one climb down to back to the top of her head. From here it descended to her hip where then she brought them both in front of her face and moments later away, revealing a wink and a smile.

Then there was singing! Yuki wasn't the best singer, or dancer for that matter. She sang was she was taught, and used her moves to express and accentuate what she sang, moving them along to the beat, dragging her hips and feet along as well. What she was proficient at, was smiling. She put on her best facial expressions throughout the song, trying to convey what the song meant to her. It meant the start of her trip, the start of her voyage. This was her and her sister's change to travel out through the world and show what she was made of. The excitement, but also the mellowness of leaving everyone behind. The scariness of leaving home, and the happiness of achieving your dreams. I'll do my best, and they will be amazed! Watch! Watch me, let me show you! The thought started to run through her head as the song was reaching the middle...

Azusa Kumon was irritated.

Of course. she was almost always irritated. This was just her natural state of being; either her job pissed her off because some idiot customer tried to flirt with her or her bosses were being demanding again, or some random street toughs thought they could feel up the pretty, busty redhead who worked down the street easily. After all, she wasn't the Angel-Faced Demon of Sendo for nothing. Either way, there was always a problem and thus she was always irritated.

Usually, when there was a problem and she was irritated, she did one of four things; intimidate it, tell it to piss off, hit it hard or book it if all else failed.

Generally the hitting came first.

Most "problems" weren't scared of her, not until they heard of her reputation, by which point they usually either begged for mercy or handed over whatever cash they had. She never took it; she wasn't some petty thief, just a girl who wouldn't let some moron screw with her.

Of course, this was all back in Sendo, when she worked odd jobs to help her mom out.

She didn't know where she was right now and she was an idol. She had been for a few months already; her agent had spotted her at the Pleasure Moon- a hostess lounge, neither particularly seedy nor particularly classy, but if you were Azusa and had neither qualifications nor the connections, you took what you could get. Of course, she'd hardly done anything of worth; a few bit roles in some anime, a few photo shoots, but then these guys had gotten her into some new agency. Not that she particularly cared; the only thing she cared about was that the guys in suits had said she'd make more money as part of this group than as a solo idol. If she made it in.

So she agreed and now she was on this stage singing some silly song that she barely knew the lines to.

And thus, Azusa Kumon was irritated.

Of course, she had to push that all down. There were a couple of girls with her; all of them, she knew a little about. There were a few twins from the country; cheery, nervous, shy bunch of girls from a place she hadn't heard of, though Azusa hadn't even been out of Sendo, let alone out of Tokyo. Those two really wanted to be idols, she could tell that much. That one small, mousy girl; squeaked like a mouse, probably scurried like one too and dressed like one of those dancing game mascots at that one arcade she hung out at. And that tall one, bigger than her, probably half-foreign; Azusa figured she was a little too into the whole idol thing.

Still, if there was one thing Azusa knew, it was that when you were in a group, you didn't let anyone down. Loyalty was the best thing you had on the streets, and you never turned your back on your own, blood or no.

Damn. Guess there's no helping it.

So Azusa dances. Nothing fancy, but rather rough; rough in the sense of force, of hot-bloodedness. Of course she kept with the movements of the rest; it'd look nicer anyway and that'd mean people would like it, which meant they weren't utterly screwed and she might get paid enough to send stuff back to mom.

Lucinda looked almost completely expressionless, and stiff as a board with nerves, right up until the curtains open.  Then a change sweeps over her, and it's like someone completely different strides out onto stage.  She follows the motions of the dance very with excellent accuracy and technique, considering how little forewarning everyone had about what the group would be performing, and plucks out a simple harmony to the song on the guitar none of you have ever seen her without that at least doesn't make the piece sound worse.  In fact, since none of you saw her between when you were told which song to perform and a few minutes before showtime, it's not a bad bet she spent the whole time locked in her dressing room practicing it.  Because she did.

But while her performance is technically excellent, a certain spark seems to be missing.  Her smile, if you look closely, seems pasted on.  Her movements are a bit mechanical, and she gives a subtle impression of just going through the motions by rote.  There's no passion to her performance, and it shows.

Lucinda, inside her facade, is mostly just relieved.  "Bon Bon Voyage" is far from the worst choice the producers could have made.  The dance isn't too complex, the instrumental is insultingly basic even if it makes her feel like she's bingeing on sugar straight from the package, and if she pretends hard enough she can imagine she's playing a Beatles song instead.  Nope, bad idea, that was a few bars of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand."  Focus on the music you're playing, and grin and bear it.  Grin and bear it, Lucinda.  There's far worse starting venues out there, and once you make a name for yourself you can leave this crummy music far behind.

Yuri was playing the song back and forth in her head. She had to know it perfectly, note for note. She was mouthing the lyrics, as she tapped her foot for a beat. To someone that didn't know her, she would look like she wasn't nervous in the slightest. At least, her face didn't betray the fact she was probably more nervous than quite a few of the group - she was too focused on the next one minute and 58 seconds.

She and her sister had, against the odds, come from their home town in the middle of nowhere to a big city and auditioned to become idols... and both made it. Yuri had been dreading the more than small chance that only one of them would be accepted, or neither. When their numbers had been called up and they were told they'd made it, she had hugged Yuki tight. They'd have called home to tell their parents, but it wasn't that bi-monthly time that the cell phone network reached their town. They'd have to make sure that they were on the screen the next time the TV worked.

The nerves were coiling inside of her. Bon Voyage... what was next? Yuri was thinking when Yuki grabbed her hands. Yuki could more than likely see the nerves - and Yuri couldn't allow that. She was the older of the two, if only by a few minutes, so it was her responsibility to keep calm. "We'll do great!" she responds to Yuki as she forces the nerves down, grinning - how could she be nervous if she had her sister beside her? As the curtains rose on their new lives, the words to the song came back. She could do this.

Bon Voyage!

Sora to umi to ga kasanaru... sono blue kirihiraite kaze kitte...

The music started, and Yuri's voice with it, in synch with the others. As expected, they had gotten through for a reason - they knew the song. The dance began with a basic swaying of the hips, side to side, her arms following the motion. As the music picked up with the end of the verse, she raised her arms and spun around, ending with her facing the audience and pointing. She could do this. She knew the lyrics by heart already - she'd had to for the audition. She knew the dance by heart. She and Yuki had helped each other practice. This was just another audition.

Yuri danced her heart out - that's how this worked for her, she believed: 100%, 100% of the time. It certainly didn't hurt that she was having a fun time while she was at it. Yuri's dancing was pretty good - not the greatest ever, but it conveyed her emotions, and the tone of the song. What really set Yuri apart was the singing itself. One could hear what this show meant to her: It meant a goodbye to what she knew, and the start of a journey into the unknown. She was scared, but at the same time excited. This was her dream since she was a young girl and it was happening, and she was singing with her soul.

Ayaka was nervous, to say the least. Not that this was a particularly unusual event, but she could usually conquer her stage nerves fairly easily. Just think of all of her favorite idols, and how nothing ever bothered them. They just stayed calm, cool, and controlled the entire time, even if it was in the midst of a super intense performance and they were exhausted because the last three songs had elaborate dance numbers to them and there were still more left. She could handle one song that she'd performed before, right? Right? Just relax, think cool, think thoughts of lace; even if people saw she was nervous, they'd just think she was cute. Right?

She did her best to look cool as she started into the performance, trying to ignore that random urge to cry you get when you're stressed - it's not like she was sad or angry, it was almost tears of joy actually - as she danced along to the beat. Her voice wavered just a bit more than it was supposed to as she sung along with the lyrics, her high voice distinct from the group but (hopefully) not piercing or overtaking them. Her dance more accurately represented what she was supposed to be feeling; energetic, excited about her new journey. There was a distinct bounce in her step as she went through the motions once again, coordinating herself with the rest of the group. She focused most closely on what the two apparent sisters seemed to be doing; they already knew each other, so they should be more coordinated, right?

The song goes into a brief intermission of pure instrumentation; perfect timing for performing an appeal.

A quick glance at the audience reveals that while there are a few waving lightsticks and generally smiles all round shows that the excitement just... isn't really there.

The audience didn't seem to be having it. Which was exactly what made her nervous about this performance; if they hated it, or just didn't care, her career could end before it even started. Still, as an idol, even a newly-minted one, it was her job to get people excited! Enthralled by the performance! She mentally tried to pump herself up despite the lukewarm performance; after all, you couldn't get anywhere as an idol if you let half of a mediocre performance get to you - especially if you let that happen in the rest of it.

She took one, two bouncing steps forward, daintily skipping side-to-side ever so slightly as she did so. She kept a broad, bright smile as she did so, moving to the beat. Instead of a third step, she launched herself into a ballet-inspired spin, arms arched over her head. Her skirt flies up as she does so, but this is by design; instead of exposing anything untoward (which would only happen if she made a concentrated effort to make it so), it simply creates a fluttering effect with the, er, plentiful layers of lace present beneath the skirt. She spun about one, two, three, four, five, oh no. Six, seven, this was too many, was the stage supposed to be tilting like that? Her arms came down, but not as planned; instead, they flailed around a bit in an attempt to regain her balance.

An attempt which failed. Failed rather dramatically, in fact, as she tumbled over while pointed away from the audience, landing facefirst into her own special effects, as if the impact had launched the burst of holographic pink flowers. Embarrassed, with this fact plainly visible on her face, she drug herself back onto her feet and tried to just go back to matching her movements to the rest of the group, resisting the urge to rub at the spot on her head that had contacted the stage.

A wave of laughter is heard from the audience, courtesy of Ayaka's cute mistake. A number of people pulled out their phones once they saw her spinning out of control, snapping a (flashless, of course) photo of the face-fallen Ayaka.

All throughout the audience, a number of guests stand up and leave with looks of clear disappointment on their faces.

Yuki's optimism was slowly fading as she saw that everyone's interest was fading. No She told herself. They are losing interest in everyone else, just wait until they see how cute my sister and I are. Putting on her cutest smile, Yuki took a stride forward and took the center.

But cuteness doesn't save one from failure, and Yuki stumbled on a monitor and shook her arms forward to attempt and regain her balance. "Woah woah woah!" She said as she shook her arms and finally regaining balance she sighed in relief. "Safe..." But it wasn't safe at all. The time she took to not trip, and the time in which she had reassured herself, she completely missed her cue. Too embarrassed to try again, she went back to the other girls.

The audience let out a sigh of relief when Yuki didn't fall flat on her face, as Ayaka had done. However, a good many of them were starting to chatter among themselves, speaking to those around them while pointing at the stage. You're quite sure you can see a few smirks of derision. The number of waving lightsticks, few though they were, start to decrease even further.

There's time for maybe one more Appeal before the song ends - will you take the chance?

While she kept on singing on the outside, on the inside Yuri was more than a little worried - this was not a great debut. To be fair, she considered, they had no prep time. It was a miracle that they were doing this well and not constantly falling over each other.

Her Appeal at this point likely wouldn't have a ton of impact - they were basically done for this one - but they could aim for a graceful failure, at least, and they can hardly do worse at this point... she signals to prepare the holographic projectors.

Yuri's part actually doesn't go horribly - she makes her way to the back of the stage, as the song begins to pick up. However, her attempt to salvage any kind of dignity with the performance fails. She doesn't stumble or fall, but when she signals the holographic projectors they sputter out a few sparks rather than the intended sunburst. She spends just a moment too long waiting for it and the moment falls a bit flat - she turns back to the audience and launches back into the song as if nothing happened, but it's clear this was not what was intended.

There are a few sighs from the audience stands. As the song draws to a close, a murmur of disappointment passes through the audience. In general, the audience looks unimpressed.

However, at literally the last second, just before the music cuts, everything stops. The audience stops moving or talking. The lightsticks stop waving. The world loses its colour. Looking over the audience, you notice that all of them are completely still, some even frozen mid-utterance. You can't even see the telltale rise and fall of breathing. It's as if they're frozen in time. If you turn to look at backstage, you see a similar phenomenon. It seems that time has been completely frozen for everyone except the five of you.

Ayaka nearly fell over again when the music stopped; she'd been following the beat for the timing on her final pose despite the fact that this live seemed to be more or less doomed from the start. After reasserting her balance and finally getting to rub that spot on her head a bit, she looked around, consternation growing on her face. "W-what's going on? It's like time stopped or something. . ."

"What kinda stupid trick is this?"

Azusa looks even more ticked off. First, she was shoved into this without much prep time and then almost all her group fails. Absolutely wonderful.

And now some idiot was playing tricks on them. Azusa clenches her fist, glaring backstage. It wasn't likely it was one of her group anyway, so she looks elsewhere.

"Hey! This isn't funny, assholes. Quit playing tricks on us! What's going on?"

Yuri bit her lip - this was hardly a fair start, being thrust into a show with no prep time at all! She was sure they could have succeeded if they had even a week's notice! But no, a crushing failure - this would be bad for their careers. On the other hand, if they made it big videos of this first concert, and them messing up, would be worth a fortune to fans. And this was what Yuri focused on: they could recover from this! A lot of really popular idols have rough starts! For Yuki, at least, she had to be confid-

She looked around, as time stopped. "...Well, this is odd, to say the least. What's going on?"

"Better than a bored audience... A little bit." Yuki looked around trying to find any signs of life, any signs of action. But the more she looked, the less she thought anyone was still awake. "Hello? Can anyone hear me? Is anyone still around?" Yuki waited for a response, instinctively going closer to Yuri for comfort.

Yuri grabbed her sister's hand as she approached, squeezing it a bit - it's fine, we'll be fine, she seemed to say. She was glad that Yuki could still move. She was certainly nervous - time stopping is not normal - but she had to be strong.

As if to answer Yuki's question, you see a series of cracks appear in the air above the stage. As these cracks grow and spider out, you begin to feel a sense of dread and apprehension - something is coming.

Then, all at once, a part of the world shatters into dust, revealing a swirling mass of color that's painful to watch. As you shield your eyes from the raging lights, a silhouette appears from within the crack, a vaguely humanoid silhouette. It stays on the edge of the crack for a couple of seconds, but then leaps downward, landing casually and lightly in front of you, allowing you to get a better look at it. Her form-fitting body armor accentuates the fact that she is a woman, and her face is hidden by a black visor which grants you no visual on what her features might look like. The visor covers most of her face, ending at her hairline, where long, white hair tied in a single braid trails behind her, its length longer than her height. A sharp-looking knife is looped through the endmost braid. Her right hand carries a sinister-looking dagger, one that she spun lazily around her fingers.

The figure walks slowly toward the five of you, its boots clinking against the ground of the stage. It would be a fearful, sinister scene were it not for the fact that the armor the figure wore was coloured a warm pink, with red streaks running across its breastplate. Still, even with the unexpected colour choice, you feel a hint of fear as it approaches.

"Dodge!"

A voice, a woman's voice, calls out to you, reverberating throughout the field. Moved by some kind of premonition of danger, each of you runs, rolls, jumps, or generally takes some sort of action to vacate your previously inhabited space - which turns out to be a good idea, as without her seeming to tense up or move in any way, her braid flies out without warning and strikes each of the spots you had previously been standing in, leaving a number of deep punctures along the ground in rapid succession. Without missing a beat, the braided woman pushed off the ground and swiped forward with her dagger, targeting the closest of you; in this case, Ayaka.

Just before the blade hits, Ayaka finds herself pushed to the side. In her place, another newcomer - someone armored in blue body armor - receives the attack on the flat of a flamberge and slashes out, forcing the assailant to retreat. As she speaks, you recognise it as the voice which had told you to dodge.

"Hm... that should have been a kill... Ah. I see. There's not enough Hype... We'll have to make do. It's been a while since I've had to fight on fumes, but..." The helmeted figure turns her head in Ayaka's direction. "I saved you, but now you have to save yourself."

She took up a ready stance.

"You five. Fight if you want to live. Sit still if you want to die."

Combat Stats

Now that we're finally entering combat, we can assign combat stats. On each of your sheets, please add another section titled "Combat Multipliers" and record the following values:

HP = (Stamina+10)
Str = (Vocal+1)
Mag = (Beauty+1)
Agi = (Dancing+1)
Def = (Facade+1)

Whenever we enter combat, take your combat multipliers and multiply every value by the encounter's Hype score - that's your statline for that encounter. So for example, if you have a Mag multiplier of 4 and the Hype score for this encounter is 100, you get 400 Mag for this encounter. Simple, no?

Weapons/Outfits

Each of your characters will now be able to materialise a weapon/combat outfit by thinking about it - it comes naturally as long as they are in the Timeless World. Go wild with designs, the weapons and outfits are purely aesthetic and have no impact on battle.

Combat Skills

Each of you now gain combat skills based on your Type, as well as a Basic Attack and Basic Defend:

Basics:

[Basic Attack]: Do STR damage to one target

[Basic Defence]: Take 50% damage for one round

Cute:

[Healing Note]: Either heal 3x MAG to one target, or heal 1x MAG to all allies.

[Cleansing Tone]: Either remove all status ailments/debuffs from one target, or remove one status ailment/debuff from all allies.

Cool:

[Heavy Sweep]: Deal 3x STR damage to one target

[Dancing Pierce]: Deal 2x AGI damage to one target. Ignores 50% DEF.

Sexy:

[Slowing Twirl]: Reduces enemy AGI by 50% for three turns

[Weakening Kiss]: Reduces enemy DEF by 50% for three turns

Pop:

[Faster, Faster!]: Raises all allies' AGI by self MAG for three turns

[You Can Do It!]: One ally does 1.5x damage this turn.

Ayaka scrambled backward at the assault, and fell over on her rear when the mysterious blue woman pushed her out of the way. "Wh-what? Why is she trying to kill us? The live wasn't that bad, this is kind of an overreaction, isn't it!? How am I supposed to protect myself from that?" She tried to push herself to her feet while still retreating, and two things happened. One, she nearly fell over, and two, as she found herself wishing for some method of protecting herself, a new outfit seemingly appeared out of thin air around her, accompanied by some sort of. . . golden wand thing? If the situation wasn't so intense, she would have stopped to appreciate the dress: it wasn't entirely dissimilar to the one she was already wearing, what with an amount of lace and frills most people would consider excessive.

The outfit had multiple layers of lacy petticoats (alternating between a light pink and white) and more white lance running down either side of the chest. The center portion was also white, while the outer parts were a pink a bit darker than the petticoats, almost matching her hair. A set of white leggings coming up to her knee replaced what she was already wearing, leaving a touch of exposed skin between them and where the skirt covered. The wand was a bit more simple, flaring out and then tapering to a point at the bottom and having a large heart shape at the top, with some kind of red orb floating in the center.

She reacted to the wand's appearance without really thinking; she now had something in her hands, and so she made an overhand swing. The upper portion of the wand lengthened and turned into. . . the head of a stuffed cat? before crashing down toward the pink-armored woman.

"Well of course there's no hype!  They gave us a terrible song and no rehearsal time," Lucinda snaps, momentarily spacing on the rest of the situation, "If you wanted a good- wait, die?  Or fight that?  That is flying!  And wearing armor!  We punch that, whoever's inside is just going to laugh!"  Lucinda's combat gear completely fails to appear because she doesn't know it exists, or believe she's got any business fighting this thing.  "This is insane!  You're insane!  It's the freaking space age and you're fighting with knives?!  What the f- heck kind of anime-  Wait a sec.  This is a publicity stunt, isn't it!  Well screw you and your candid camera!  This isn't funny!"  Lucinda uses her basic defense, and starts looking for hidden cameras, so she can tell the people behind them what she really thinks of this situation.

Yuki stood there frozen watching everything happen. Her legs froze up, could something this really be happening. To try and reassure herself everything would be alright, she brushed her pink hair out of her eyes and focused... Hold on, pink hair? Her hair was longer, way way longer, and pink! She looked at her hands, noticing her gloves changed and even her nails were painted. She looked down to see that her whole outfit was different and... Yuki's face turned deep red as she noticed that certain 'features' had been enlarged as well. She shook her head from side to side. "I don't think this is a publicity stunt, I think this is real." Yuki took a step forward and looked at her gloves. Something like a projector was in the middle, it looked like a weapon. No, she knew it was a weapon. "And if we're really being attack I am not going down without a fight!" She threw forward her hands and from them two beams of light former a ball of pink energy. She let out a war cry, and the ball flew forward towards the enemy knight.

Yuri took a step back, hand on Yuki's chest to keep her twin behind her and out of harm's way. Alright. Think this through logically. Time stopped, a women had burst through a crack in reality and was now trying to kill them, a different woman was defending them, one of the girls had just exploded into lace and was now trying to punch murder-knight-lady in the face... logic was not working. She rubbbed her forehead. This was... too much. "Yuki, stay baaaa-" she trailed off when she felt something... very different where she had her hand on her sister's chest. "Yuki- you-" she started, before shaking her head. Nothing was making sense anyway. Why couldn't Yuki suddenly grow three cup sizes? ...She noticed that the head motion had sent some blue hair in front of her eyes. "You know what, logic isn't working here." she said, examining the blue battle-dress she now found herself in. "I don't even know what to think at this point." she says, before turning to the one who had assaulted them. She idly twirled the swords that had appeared in her hands, attached to chains, as if she had wielded them a thousand times. "But I do know that I'm not letting you hurt Yuki."

With this declaration, Yuki sends the swords out, sweeping at their assailant's feet to knock them off balance and hurt them in the process.

Heavy Sweep.
