Polylogue
Hey all! I started picking up Reborn pretty solidly about a week ago, and my girlfriend made me realize I was going so hard on the shinies that I should have made my poor little starter fellow shiny. I'd only gotten through to beating Corey -- I figured I wasn't too far in, so I could give it a shot. So I'm startin' over with a Badge Quest! I think I'll chronicle the adventures in this thread as I go, and depending on how well it goes, I may start streaming a second play as a Shiny Dex Quest (details on that later). That said, I'm getting a start by cycling between one of each type of starter until one shines: Cyndaquil, Piplup, and Chespin. We'll see what happens soon enough! Also I'll probably get a few shinies at the start just to supplement taking on Julia. lol Update 1: Spent most of the day today hunting down a shiny Finneon, since Luminion has always been my favorite Pokemon despite its stats and movepool. xD Finally picked it up after three Goldeens. Now to add something less vulnerable to electricity! lol Also my luck with natures is apparently not bad, and I got Bold. Update 2: Alright, SWEET addition to the team in the form of a shiny female Espurr! It's even Modest, I think Reborn likes me. <3 211 resets wasn't too bad. Followed this up by running across Whismur, which I didn't even know could appear, and nabbed a shiny (after a fail) in only 84 SRs. Gulpin took a little longer, but I got my little tomato in 195 SRs. Now aiming for a shiny Poochyena, encountered a Stunky on the way to it only 22 REs in. Went to restock on Pokeballs when I remembered I had a Pokemon waiting for me on the bridge, so I took out the punks and BAM! Shiny Pachirisu in 108 SRs. Timid. I swear something is going on with the Nature RNG. 116 REs, shiny Trubbish. We'll see if I can get the Poochyena in another area. WELL. Just got through my longest set of soft resets yet: Simisear. Gonna take a break from collecting any more with that one. Back soon with tales of training, I suppose. lol Current Shiny Collection Chespin (224 SRs) Goldeen*2 (I don't know when I got them tbh I didn't care D:) Finneon (2051 REs) Espurr (211 SRs) Whismur (84 SRs) Gulpin (195 SRs) Stunky (22 REs) Pachirisu (108 SRs) Trubbish (116 REs) Simisear (537 SRs) Poochyena (Phase 2 incomplete) Pidove (Random) Mankey (Random) Lotad (150 SRs and counting) Edited June 11, 2017 by Polylogue
Polylogue
Quote It was dark. Cold. Wet. The train arrived in the dead of night -- which the conductor had warned us about -- but he spoke nothing of the rain. A fellow passenger stated as we were about to pull into the station that KRLA said we'd have clear skies all week. I was looking forward to the clear night sky, even if I knew I was traveling to someplace that bordered what many would call apocalyptic. As the rain trickled down my face, I could feel the level of pollution and corruption of nature that I had laughed off from my brother. I'd heard stories of a grand blue lake, but polluted skies and nefarious people waiting around every corner, ready to steal everything the unprepared passerby had to their name. I had mentally readied myself for the worst, but deep down I felt that surely these must be folk tales meant to scare off children. When I was instructed to leave behind all of my Pokémon, I became uncomfortable, but I knew this was the path I needed to take. Coming from Johto, I'd already completed a couple of Pokémon League challenges, though I was never strong enough to defeat the Elite Four. With a reputation for being a harsh and unforgiving region, I had set my eyes on Reborn to strengthen myself. I had little left to lose after my family disowned me, calling me a disgrace to our distinguished past of League champions. My father pulled me into the living room after hearing that I'd failed, the walls of my old home lined with trophies and medals of my distant ancestors as he berated me, as though to emphasize that I wasn't good enough. It didn't matter. My parents had always thought the strange colored Pokèmon that I'd brought home were defective or diseased regardless, but they were my closest friends. "I'll be back for you when I've grown, my friends," I whispered to myself as I stepped off the train. The conductor said that my things would be brought soon to the apartment I was to be staying at in the Peridot Ward, so I stepped off the train with nothing but my wallet and my bag, which carried the one Potion that I had sneaked past security. The person who had essentially recruited me for the Reborn League, Ame, had been giving me some pointers about this place, abandoned by those who sought a more comfortable life. She reminded me a bit of the professor's assistant that had given me my first Pokémon when I was starting out. Birch hadn't been there, something about field research? Regardless, it was good to have someone to lead me to the first step. I needed to be ready for anything. I was ready for anything. KABOOM Everything except for that. Screams muffled by the rain still rang out across the night sky as the train station erupted into flames. I turned back just in time to see a chunk of brick flying straight at my face. I ducked, tucking my head into my arms until I heard everything settle. I could hear police rushing over to investigate the scene, but I left myself crouched just in case of more explosions or debris. All of my belongings had just been destroyed. I truly had nothing left except the clothes on my back and the cash that I had thankfully tucked away from my Gym Battle victories in Kanto. What happened afterward was a bit of a blur. Ame brushed herself off and checked on me before a woman dressed in bright yellow approached. Ame "introduced" her as Julia, though she seemed uncomfortable with her for a moment. Apparently, Julia is known for her pyrotechnic displays. I was still a bit in shock, personally. Ame told me she needed to investigate the attack, but said someone would be waiting for me when I got to the Grand Hall. I entered the hall alongside a girl named Victoria, who seemed anxious to lead me indoors. It turns out she was in a similar situation: starting over from scratch, though I believe she originally started in this region as well. Would my time here be worth it, if other trainers from the area are going through the same process I am? I tucked the thought aside as I realized it was Ame that was taking me upstairs to the starter Pokémon. How had she gotten here before I did? My sense of time was likely skewed from the trauma of the explosion, so I waved it off as I was taken to the normal set of thr- "How ma... are these all starters that I can chose from? Don't most regions only have three; one of each type?" I asked, overwhelmed by the size of the room and the number of options in front of me. "Indeed," Ame smirked, "but we have so many trainers coming from so many different regions, we've decided to set up with ways for trainers from each region to be comfortable with their starter, or to begin with something they've never seen before as an extra challenge." She made a sweeping motion with her arm to signal I was free to take my pick from the large swath of Pokéballs lined carefully on the colored tables, and explained how they were arranged. With knowledge that the latest discovered starter Pokémon were at the end, I was drawn toward the back side of the room. "Where are you, my little outcast?" I said quietly as I looked at each little creature, ready to battle and looking for a strong companion. I must have been taking longer than I thought looking at my options, because Ame walked up to me with an offer. "We..." she sighed, then started speaking with a sympathetic smile, "we usually save these for the collectors, since they tend to poach Pokémon in the area looking for their rare exclusives, but if you'd like, we do have one special little guy. Chespin, a Grass-type. Usually, they're green, and rarely you'll find them red and brown, but you'll soon find out that our region is host to many Pokémon that have taken on strange colors, likely due to the high radiation levels. This Chespin is blue. And keep in mind I'm only offering this to you because of the awful experience you've just had being introduced to our region. Don't go telling others," she smiled and winked. I nodded as I reached out. With my new Pokémon in hand, I gave a quiet "thank you" as I made my way downstairs, doing my best to keep myself composed. As Victoria made her way upstairs to take her pick, someone walked up to me and challenged me to a battle. Seemed harmless enough. Chespin responded quickly to Tackle, so I decided to stick with that until I got a Pokédex replacement. The battle ended as quickly as it started, and my opponent then showed me to the healing center in the building. Soon after, Victoria challenged me as well. Same result, swift victory. This Chespin seemed used to fending for itself. I was directed toward Julia's gym in Peridot, and given the Pokédex and replacement key to the apartment I would be occupying. Finally the disruption of the train disaster was settling to the back of my mind. Battle seemed to help. It was familiar. Welcomed. I made my way out into the city. A few grass patches outside of the hall tempted me, but I decided to become more familiar with the city. I just took out Julia in the game, so my story will need a bit of catching up, but I'm outta steam for now. I caught a cold and the pain is slowing down the typing. I'll edit this post with the rest and a picture of my Julia team soon!
