Jess
I don't see the point of making Alola-Raichu available so late in the game... It's not even that powerful! OK, it has Psychic, but it's still... a Raichu. A fragile fast Special sweeper. Nothing unlike the other 100 released mons that fit under the same category. Plus, all of us want to try Alolan Pokemon relatively early, if it's put literally in the end of currently released content, why bother waiting and not just get a normal Raichu? I think Apophyll Pancakes should've stayed where they were. They were post-Keta anyways, so a Psychic mon wouldn't make such a huge difference! Zargerth
Wait, what? Did something change? I got mine after Keta.
seki108
As someone who got the pancakes pre-patch 10, Alolan Raichu was barely any help at all. Even with a 31 speed and 160 EV's in speed, it got outsped frequently. On top of that setting up Nasty Plot usually got it one-shotted and damage without setup wasn't great. Maybe I should have utilized screens more, like I did in my Reborn playthrough, but too late for that now. My point was I agree that A-Raichu would do better as a useful early/mid-game mon, since I can't imagine it being that much more useful as better Psychic and Electric mons are acquirable. Alolan raichu litterally swept Valarie and even marianette, its also not too fragile it can take some hits but there are some mons that are early and are in the same category coughVikavoltcough Edited August 23, 2017 by Snowy Amine ( MC Kapper)
Filthy Casual
You can get the item to evolve Pikachu to Alolan Raichu on Route 3 at one of the vendor.
Enigma Shot U
I was fortunate enough to get the Pancakes before the patch however I already had Meowstic and Charjabug on my team so I didn't bother with it. But honestly you're much better off getting Pikachu with the lightball from Darchlight manor.
Jess
@seki108 Yes, my point was that Alolan-Raichu is fragile as hell and that it is nothing but a fast special sweeper. However, I honestly think you exaggerate a bit. With a 110 base speed, and 31 Speed IV AND 160 EVs in Speed, it would get outsped by pretty much nothing, apart from the speedy beasts that some leaders might have in late game (perfect IV, nature and EVs). Also, a 95 base Sp. Attack is more than adequate for any pokemon game run. Competitive is a whole different thing, but even there, 95 base Sp. Attack is considered average. I'd say it is a solid mid game mon (definitely not an early game one, since you have to level Pikachu up till it gets Thunderbolt anyways, to mid 40s before actually evolving it, or it will be underwhelming). As for setting up Nasty Plot, you probably just tried it at the wrong timing. If you debuffed the opponents' Attack/Sp. Attack first, or took advantage of the turns when AI Potions up, you could easily get Nasty Plots and then sweep the universe with Psychic and Thunderbolt. And yes, Light Screen would've definitely helped with succeeding in that. @Zargerth, @Filthy Casual Not anymore. Apophyll Pancakes are only available somewhere in GDC now. Guess I'll just hack them in my game, since Alolan Raichu isn't nearly that overpowered to move it THAT late in game. Bad decision by Jan there. @Enigma Shot U Maybe, But I dislike Pikachu... Raichu and Pichu on the other hand are quite lovely (when it comes to my taste always). And I need that Psychic coverage for my custom run. @Snowy Amine ( MC Kapper) Exactly. Got many special sweepers available relatively early, I don't get why we can get normal Raichu even before Keta, but Alolan Raichu only after actually ending the current release. Is Psychic making it THAT much better?
Panther
It's one of those mons that is really not self-sufficient and especially not so when it is not EV trained or given a good movepool.
Jess
@Panther Well, you definitely don't need EV training to complete any Pokemon games, even Reborn/Rejuvenation. But I agree that to get the good moves for Alolan-Raichu you need to get it to mid 40s, then evolve it. But Nasty Plot/ Thunderbolt/ Psychic /Grass Knot (or Sweet Kiss/Charm/Fake Out/Encore) are quite a decent movepool. It's just a matter of strategy, find the chance to Encore someone, set up, and have fun sweeping. Like with every sweeper.
Anime
its not that Op really , i mean look at the other early game special sweepers, they're more Op then alolan raichu
Swampellow
Well first, my thoughts on A-raichu. It is incredibly good. It can sweep marienette by setting up on Helio, sweep Valerie, and sweep Erik, and do a lot to the puppet masters given the chance off the top of my head. Second. The pancakes are still available for purchase on route 3, they are just no longer 0 poke, now costing 3000. I suspect you aren't looking properly. http://prntscr.com/gc914v Edited August 23, 2017 by Swampellow
Jess
@Swampellow You're right. I saw in a different topic that they were removed though. But I bought the Pancakes normally. Maybe I don't have the latest patch? This is the topic. So, which is true? They are removed and my game is outdated or something else? TharTV
@JessI was still able to get the Pancakes at Route 3 even with the latest patch. Maybe you couldn't find it cos the shop is only open at certain times?
Jess
@TharTV I found it as well (just messed with my clock to get daytime, and all sellers were there), but I still have no clue what the people in that topic are talking about, if the Pancakes aren't actually moved... Weird... Edit: Just checked and I have patch 10 installed as well. Also, I just accessed Route 3, so it isn't possible that the Pancakes appear only after you reach some point later in the game. Sceptilespy
Alola Raichu is just a really underwhelming mon. But yeah, if you want a free win vs Valarie, then it's there.
