I have a Favorite Trial Captain thread and a favorite Island Kahuna thread, though I see they're both archived now. I've made a favorites thread for almost everything and them being archived has made it difficult to update for USUM. I wanted to update my Favorite Side Activity thread to included the Alola Photo Club and Mantine Surfing, but then I saw it was archived, and I don't really feel like investing the energy into making a new one right now. 

 

Sorry for rambling. My favorite trial captain is Acerola and my favorite island kahuna is Olivia.

What I'm about to say is just opinion through my own experiences, so take it with a grain of salt. Having said that, I really like Mina's trial. It was fun to see everyone after your long adventure. It showed both sweet and funny moments. Here are some highlights:

• Mallow is a drug user (using Aromatherapy to "calm anxiety"? You can't fool me, Gamefreak)
• Nanu watching over the children after Acerola was invited to be an E4 member
• The last conversation with Guzma before RR

All of those things really put my adventure into perspective, and made my first run through Alola feel more special.

 

Having said that, I didn't really like any of the Kahunas. It's not that they're bad, it's just that they don't really show up too much. Olivia only arrives twice before the trial: one to welcome you, and the other to say "Hey, you can challenge me now". You don't meet Nanu until close to the end of your trials on Ula'Ula. Of course, that leaves Hala and Hapu, and honestly, I thought Hala would play a much bigger role in the story than he did. As such, I'm going to give this to Hapu. She's the one who acts the most like a Kahuna to me, as she's given the most opportunities to do so. Not only is she the one to offer assistance to the Ultra Recon Squad, even after explicitly saying they didn't want help, but she also acts like a mentor to Lillie at points in the story.

For the trial captain I chose Mallow because my favorite type is grass and really like Totem Lurantis the most. My favorite kahuna is Olivia because of obvious reasons and surprisingly, despite her typing, she gave me the hardest time out of all the kahunas
