Shanco
Ryan C here with a little guidance for the young'uns, because I didn't find this and I feel it's important. Is there that one team or dude that is just pissing you off with boosting and Baton Passing until you're absolutely helpless? I've been in that situation before, not just on Reborn but it happens elsewhere, too! And now I give you... Five ways to top a Baton Passing team! (In no particular order) 1. A fast Pokemon with Taunt. A Pokemon with Taunt will stop the opponent from boosting AND passing, leaving them trapped, either to take abuse, die, or switch out, starting the process over again. Cobalion used Taunt! The foe's Gorebyss fell for the taunt! The foe's Gorebyss can't use Shell Smash after the taunt! 2. A heavy-hitting mixed sweeper to lead. If you have a mixed sweeper holding, say, a Life Orb, switch into it quickly, before the boosts pile up. This will cause a panic if it doesn't wipe the opponent off the face of the earth. The foe's Mawile used Baton Pass! Ryan C called Mawile Back! Ryan C sent out Drifblim! Cobalion used Volt Switch! It's super effective! A critical hit! The foe's Drifblim lost 100% of its health! The foe's Drifblim fainted! 3. Go for the criticals. Land critical hits to do double, maybe triple damage (with Sniper) and bypass the opponent's defensive stat changes. Easier said than done...but we remember that there are moves that always land critical hits. Take advantage of these to make Barriers become wasted turns. The foe's Xatu used Light Screen! The foe's Light Sreen raised Ryan C's team special defense! Cryogonal used Frost Breath! It's super effective! A critical hit! The foes Xatu lost 100% of its health! The foe's Xatu fainted! 4. Hazin'... If you can get a Haze-style move off, you're in business because it can be a real momentum killer on top of being an excellent stat change remover, even if it doesn't do too much damage. The foe's Gorebyss used Baton Pass! Ryan C called Gorebyss back! Ryan C sent out Drifblim! Gengar used Clear Smog! It's not very effective... The foe's Drifblim lost 1% of its health! The foe's Drifblim's stat changes were eliminated! 5: ...And Phazin'. Failing all else, grab something to blow it away (perhaps literally). Stat changes don't remain when something is forced to switch! The foe's Leafeon used Wish! Hippowdon used Roar! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Glaceon! The foe's Glaceon was dragged out! Avoid using damaging phazers, as substitutes can take the damage and prevent the force-out. The foe's Leafeon used Substitute! The foe's Leafeon made a substitute! Lucario used Circle Throw! The foe's Leafeon's substitute faded! Lucario's Perish count fell to 0. Lucario fainted! That's it. If somebody has something to add, feel free to post it below. Hope it helps, guys. Cheers. Administrators Amethyst Posted October 1, 2012 Administrators Share Posted October 1, 2012 Perish Song and Encore are my favorites, for some obvious reasons. >>
Godot
Currently I run aerodactyl with taunt and whimsicot with encore There is a guy who is quite commonly found on our server that I know runs a pretty wicked batonpass team, on the rare occasions that I ladder, he often would forfiet vs. Me for using those two things Another fun thing is Psych Up

Swimming95
As a runner of a baton pass team that works pretty well... the only effective way to not lose to a baton pass team is to not let it set up. idc what you guys say it is honestly the only way to stop it. The second I can set up a swords dance, whether you taunt me or not, I will be able to sweep you. The problem with a lot of these strategies is that they do not stop the heart of the baton pass team. A good BP team should be able to survive without BP. Don't forget that its fine to use these tactics but I will just switch back later when your threat is gone

Shanco
Responses: 1. Amethyst, the Reborn Master If you mean using them in combo, you are a troll, because that is awesome. Perish Song doesn't work well alone, though. Start of Turn 17 Flareon used Wish! The foe's Politoed used Perish Song! All Pokemon hearing the song will faint in three turns! Rain continues to fall! The foe's Politoed's perish count fell to 3. Flareon's perish count fell to 3. Start of Turn 18 Flareon used Baton Pass! Ryan C called Flareon back! Ryan C sent out Glaceon! The foe's Politoed used Encore! But it failed! Rain continues to fall! The foe's Politoed's perish count fell to 2. Yeah, and like I said, it's great in combination. Take note, Politoed fans. Start of Turn 23 The foe's Politoed used Encore! Minun got an encore! Minun used Nasty Plot! Minun's Sp. Atk. sharply rose! Rain continues to fall! Start of Turn 23 The foe's Politoed used Perish Song! All Pokemon hearing this song will faint in three turns! Minun used Nasty Plot! Minun's Sp. Atk. sharply rose! Rain continues to fall! The foe's Politoed's perish count fell to 3. Flareon's perish count fell to 3. Amethyst: lol, troll'd~ Sorry, had to for entertainment value. Anyway, this is something for anyone to keep in mind for a Politoed set. 2. Godot, Dominus, Wolf, which do you prefer? I know exactly who you're talking about. Psych Up only eliminates half the problem. Smart BP players will phaze that if they can, but the good thing is most of the time they won't see it coming. Start of Turn 28 The foe's Blissey used Psych Up! The foe's Blissey copied Leafeon's stat changes! Leafeon used Baton Pass! Ryan C called Leafeon back! Ryan C sent out Drifblim! Hail continues to fall! Drifblim is buffeted by the hail! The foe's Blissey is buffeted by the hail! Ryan C: Oh, shit. Start of Turn 29 The foe's Blissey used Ice Beam! It's super effective! Drifblim lost 83% of its health! Drifblim fainted! Ryan C forfeited against Godot! The window was disabled due to one of the players closing the battle window. 3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtle! ...I mean, Swimming95 I would disagree that it's the ONLY effective way, or this page would be a lot shorter...or a lot longer, cramped with comments from people who also disagree. With the right tools, it's always stoppable - but you're right, shutting it down first thing is better than having to wait for the opportunity. 4. Reborn's TyraniRAWR! ...or Listar Isotone. Sorry, inner Terra came out Trick Room is fun, but only if your opponent boosts the Speed first. Start of Turn 1 Durant used Rock Polish! Durant's Speed sharply rose! The foe's Exeggutor used Trick Room! The foe's Exeggutor twisted the dimensions! Ryan C: Oops. misclick Reborn's Tyranitar: too late Start of Turn 2 The foe's Exeggutor used Hidden Power! It's super effective! A critical hit! Durant's Occa Berry weakened Hidden Power's power! Durant lost 100% of its health! Durant fainted! Things will go awry if they don't though, and remember Trick Room has anti-priority. Start of Turn 1 Ryan C called Durant back! Ryan C sent out Absol! The foe's Exeggutor used Trick Room! The foe's Exeggutor twisted the dimensions! Start of Turn 2 Absol used Sucker Punch! It's super effective! The foe's Exeggutor lost 100% of its health! The foe's Exeggutor fainted! _______________________________________________________________________ Thanks for contributing, guys. ...and gal. Sorry Ame. Zen
Prankster and Thunder Wave also works well, barring espeon. One thing everyone so far seems to have missed is Unaware, LOL The constant anti-BP ability.
Shanco
Magic Bounce is the reason why I didn't include Prankster status on the list. I was looking for universal strategy. Start of Turn 1 Ryan C called Lopunny back! Ryan C sent out Espeon! The foe's Thundurus used Thunder Wave! The foe's Thundurus's Thunder Wave was bounced back by Magic Mirror! The foe's Thundurus is paralyzed! It may be unable to move! Yeah, people seemed to have missed Unaware. Get it? Unaware? Anyway, That's a good idea. Start of Turn 18 Glaceon used Barrier! Glaceon's Defense sharply rose! The foe's Bibarel used Return! Glaceon lost 100% of its health! Glaceon fainted! But don't run Bibarel. Except on a rain team. Oh, I think I once led with bibarel - used to to pump up a few Curses, and Rollout. Magic Bounce is common, but usually since Prankster comes with Night Shade (at least, for sableye and I think murkrow), damage is assured barring BP onto a Normal pokemon. Ringabel
Does any use Cobalion in overused?
Shanco
Yes, people use Cobalion in OverUsed. The reason why it isn't seen as much is because it's outclassed by Lucario and to a lesser extent Metagross, but it is faster than both of them, has a fantastic support movepool, and has access to Sacred Sword...which by the way brings me to this idea. Sacred Sword is another way to beat a Baton Pass team! Start of Turn 22 Whimsicott used Cotton Guard! Whimsicott's Defense drastically rose! The foe's Cobalion used Sacred Sword! Whimsicott lost 100% of its health! Whimsicott fainted! Cryogonal, however, is another story, being a special wall/spinner but being otherwise bad in OU. The reason I showed it is because it can use Frost Breath. Edited October 3, 2012 by rc52
Glaciem
Start of turn 14 Excadrill used Swords Dance! Excadrill's Attack sharply rose! The foe's Empoleon must recharge! The sandstorm rages! The foe's Empoleon restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Start of turn 15 Excadrill used Earthquake! It's super effective! The foe's Empoleon lost 56% of its health! The foe's Empoleon fainted! The sandstorm rages! DobleU sent out Heracross! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Heracross! The foe's Heracross is hurt by spikes! The foe's Heracross was poisoned! Start of turn 16 Excadrill used Earthquake! It's not very effective... The foe's Heracross lost 63% of its health! The foe's Heracross ate its Salac Berry! The Salac Berry raised the foe's Heracross's Speed! The foe's Heracross used Stone Edge! It's not very effective... Excadrill lost 54 HP! (14% of its health) Excadrill's Air Balloon popped! The sandstorm rages! The foe's Heracross is buffeted by the sandstorm! The foe's Heracross is hurt by poison! The foe's Heracross fainted! DobleU sent out Vileplume! Excadrill's Attack sharply rose! The foe's Vileplume used Sludge Bomb! It had no effect! The sandstorm rages! The foe's Vileplume is buffeted by the sandstorm! Start of turn 18 DobleU called Vileplume back! DobleU sent out Lunatone! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Lunatone! Excadrill used Earthquake! It had no effect! The sandstorm rages! Start of turn 19 Excadrill used Rock Slide! The foe's Lunatone lost 87% of its health! The foe's Lunatone fainted! The sandstorm rages! DobleU sent out Infernape! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Infernape! The foe's Infernape is hurt by spikes! Start of turn 20 Excadrill used Earthquake! It's super effective! The foe's Infernape lost 47% of its health! The foe's Infernape fainted! The sandstorm rages! DobleU sent out Electivire! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Electivire! The foe's Electivire is hurt by spikes!
