Shanco
Ryan C here. It's time to dip down to the lower tiers for me as I make an attempt to dominate the bowels (sort of) of Reborn, the UU tier. UU has always been awesome for me, I dunno why. Maybe it's because of my bro Cobalion, the cool Pokemon that looks like Viewtiful Joe named Bisharp, or some other hidden gems. I've always managed to find kickass Pokemon that in all reality are underrated. Anyway, enough of that. It's RMT time! Let the wannabe critics flock to the presses. NOTE: I'll change this when Nyu / Ame / somebody gets on changing tiers. Entei @ Life Orb Trait: Flash Fire EVs: 4 HP / 100 Atk / 152 SAtk / 252 Spd Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def) - Flame Charge - Lava Plume - Sunny Day - SolarBeam Power/weather lead. I figured I'd continue my love for lead-smashers with this team and go with Entei. Though not as valued as Raikou or Suicune as it's a Fire-type, it does hit hard,, but my main reason for picking Entei is the ability to learn ExtremeSpeed. I debated with myself between Flamethrower and Lava Plume, but went with the latter after I started thinking about Will-O-Wisp. Sunny Day doubles the power of Fire moves and eliminates the extra turn needed to fire mah lazer - ahem, use SolarBeam to better handle checks. Donphan (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sturdy EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Rapid Spin - Earthquake - Stone Edge - Ice Shard Offensive spinner, straight from Smogon. "This set takes a more offensive approach, taking advantage of Donphan's often forgotten, yet undeniably impressive Attack stat. Even with the set's slant towards offense, Donphan retains most of its defense, and the decrease in bulk (albeit a moderate one) is somewhat redeemed by its Stealth Rock resistance and Sturdy. Donphan's function, however, remains unchanged; using Rapid Spin should still be its main priority if entry hazards are present. As always, Earthquake is a staple for putting a dent in anything that doesn't resist it. Even Jellicent, one of Donphan's initial counters, is 2HKOed with prior damage. Besides Earthquake and Rapid Spin, Donphan has room for more coverage or support options in the last slots. Stone Edge, paired with Earthquake, provides near-perfect coverage, the two being resisted by only a few choice threats such as Bronzong. In the last slot, Ice Shard should be used to revenge kill weakened threats and targets with weaknesses to Ice-type attacks, especially Dragonite and Haxorus." Regice @ Life Orb Trait: Clear Body EVs: 80 HP / 176 Def / 252 SAtk Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Ice Beam - Thunderbolt - Focus Blast - Rock Polish The Regice that tries to cover everything while keeping its offense decent. Ice Beam is the reliable STAB, and it's enough to kill what it needs to kill...Flygon, Zweilous, whatever I need it to do. Thunderbolt is there to provide the infamous BoltBeam combo, which by my research is unresisted in Reborn UU. Focus Blast is another coverage move that hits all of the weaknesses hard, especially Rock and Steel. Rock Polish doubles Regice's speed, which makes the last bad but needed stat not so bad anymore if I fear it can't take a hit from a moderate-speed dude. Regirock @ Leftovers Trait: Sturdy EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Rest - Sleep Talk - Curse - Stone Edge The wall. Regirock's 200 base defense is...awesome. Working with Regice's 200 base Special Defense, as well has having 100 base Special Defense of its own, Regirock's typing, which defensively isn't that great, is made up for by kickass defense as well as being bested in terms of being a physical wall maybe only by Steelix. I tried the ResTalk approach here. So far, so good. Curse helps out Regirock as it isn't going to use its Speed anyway. Stone Edge is the STAB when Regirock has cursed enough. (lol) It's going to be walled by the odd Ferroseed and Duosion, but I have ways around those dudes. Sceptile @ Flying Gem Trait: Unburden EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Leaf Blade - Earthquake - Acrobatics - Night Slash Late-game sweeper. Sceptile, while not being my fave starter, has some things that really work out well for it, such as its Hidden Ability, Unburden. Leaf Blade is an awesome STAB which, if I'm not correct, used to be unique to Sceptile back ing 3rd gen. It also has my favorite side effect: A high crit-hit. Earthquake handles the Steel-types that would otherwise wall it completely. Believe it or not, I one time forced Sturdy to kick in on a Skarmory after a crit-hit of Flying Gem-boosted Acrobatics. Man, that move is awesome. The final coverage move is the Nighty-Night Slash which can put my opponents that are Psychics and Ghosts right the heck out with that high crit-hit. Justice (Cobalion) @ Focus Sash Trait: Justified EVs: 76 HP / 180 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Sacred Sword - Stone Edge - Swords Dance - Taunt My gosh, I love this Pokemon. A case can be made for Cobalion even being an OU pokemon with its Steel-Fighting typing, 129 base defense, and an awesome choice of support moves. Sacred Sword is a unique STAB that cuts through defensive stat changes, much like critical hits. Stone Edge does some decent damage and provides some cool coverage. Swords Dance doubles Cobalion's Attack, making it better at cutting through threats, and Taunt prevents the other Pokemon from setting up on him, so it kinda makes him bulkier...? Dunno. Sash for the ability to counter. Edited October 12, 2012 by rc52
Summer
More legend pls. Offensive and defensive at the same time? Approved.
Shanco
Lol, legends do make up a fair amount of my original teams. But let's remember that they're only as good as the Pokemon around it, or at most marginally better. Offensive and Defensive was what I was trying to accomplish.
