Shanco
Ryan C here. Team #3 has arrived, defying Owen himself! That up there was one of my favorite bands in my childhood. Hell, they still are. But that doesn't matter. They shine pretty bright in the spotlight, but this team shines just as bright - in the sunlight. (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Drought EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Flamethrower - Hidden Power [Fighting] - SolarBeam - Hypnosis Sun attacker and hypnotist. Ninetales is my favorite weather Pokemon, as sun has more uses than rain, and it's also faster than the other weather dudes. Flamethrower is the STAB move that gets bolstered to a whopping 285 base power by sun. Hidden Power [Fighting] is there to boldly take on sand teams if they get in the way. SolarBeam is a hard-hitting Special Grass attack that hits Ninetales' weaknesses really hard. Hypnosis is more useful on Ninetales than Politoed, as it works with its great Speed. Sun is mostly for its own benefit unless you guys come up with a good sun dude that fits in this team. @ Life Orb Trait: Victory Star EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - V-create - Fusion Bolt - Zen Headbutt - U-turn Abuse dat sun! Victini is the physical attacker that can make the best use of the sun. Although it isn't as fast as I had hoped, it still gets the job done with sheer overwhelming power that even makes Skarmory run for its life. Choosing physical attacks because that way it won't get walled by anything in OU that isn't boosted, it unleashes its vast movepool to do some damage. I hope I don't need to clarify the reason for V-create. Fusion Bolt provides an alternative for Jolteon. Zen Headbutt is the STAB that made me actually consider giving it a Razor Fang for the longest time. U-turn gets Victini the hell out of there, and hits hard against certain Pokemon. The Life Orb is there so Victini gets the most out of its power. (M) @ Leftovers / Lum Berry Trait: Sand Rush EVs: 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Rapid Spin - Stealth Rock - Bulldoze - Stone Edge Support spinner. On a sun team, a spinner is essential as the Fire-types will be hurting from Rocks and Spikes. Rapid Spin clears Stealth Rock and other stuff. It also keeps Ferrothorn from Leech Seeding it to death. Stealth Rock does some of the dirty work for it. If I need an immediate attack, Bulldoze is the way to go, as it lowers the opponent's Speed and may prompt a switch, making Stealth Rock useful. Stone Edge provides some excellent coverage with Earthquake, and has a high crit-hit to boot. The ability Sand Rush, while the alternative provides a fun hax factor, is ultimately better against sand should the opponent put it out, and if the opponent is running sand they will probably set up Stealth Rock sooner or later, so we can clear that out of the way. The item choice is a toss-up between Leftovers, which would give recovery, and Lum Berry, which prevents burns and poison from Toxic Spikes so Sandslash can healthily clear them off the field. Ononokusu () (M) @ Lum Berry Trait: Mold Breaker EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Outrage - Earthquake - Dragon Dance - Taunt Power attacker. I dunno, I thought his Japanese name is way cooler, even though they're both cool. Anyway, the good thing about running Haxorus in sun is that no one will use STAB Ice-type attacks against Haxorus if they know what's good for them. Onto the moves. Outrage is so heartlessly powerful that it can even OHKO Ferrothorn at +2. Earthquake is a coverage that also OHKOs Ferrothorn after a boost or two, but it's mostly serving as a coverage move. Dragon Dance is the boosting move that further boosts the sweeping potential of the mighty Tusk Dragon, and Taunt gives Haxorus a chance to wreck without allowing the opponent to prepare. The ability choice Mold Breaker removes Bronzong, one of Haxorus's main counters. That pretty much leaves Skarmory as the only true counter to Haoxrus. @ Life Orb Trait: Lightningrod EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Thunderbolt - Heat Wave - Hidden Power [ice] - Roost Special attacker that packs quite a punch. This is a sickeningly powerful Electric-Flying, capable of punishing almost anyone that dares defy Ninetales. The judgment would be Thunderbolt, at roughly 185 base power. Then there's Heat Wave, which packs 260 base under the sun and hit multiple targets in Doubles battles. Hidden Power [ice] should logically lose power in sun, but...you know...this is Pokemon. Roost helps Zapdos recover from th damage caused by the Life Orb it holds. (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Mummy EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Shadow Ball - Hidden Power [Fighting] - Calm Mind - Rest This team's wall, status absorber, etc. Cofagrigus is 5th gen's bulkiest Pokemon, even if it lacks a proper recovery move. This bulk gets pushed even further by Calm Mind, which turns Cofagrigus from a physical shield into a complete wall with offensive prowess, and trust me, that is very hard to get by without a phazer. Imagine this thing with a +6 Speed boost. It still wouldn't be very fast, but my god, a fast-moving coffin would scare the shit out of me. Anyway, the moves Calm Mind helps out are Shadow Ball, the STAB, and Hidden Power [Fighting], to make up for the lack of Fighting moves on the team. Cofagrigus might have only two recovery moves to rely on (Rest and Pain Split), but it's bulky enough to be a reliable user of Rest. Because, you know, I think it'd be kind of broken if it could learn something like Recover. Just saying. As always, I have included an exportable in the spoiler below. Ninetales (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Drought EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Flamethrower - Hidden Power [Fighting] - SolarBeam - Hypnosis Victini @ Life Orb Trait: Victory Star EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - V-create - Fusion Bolt - Zen Headbutt - U-turn Sandslash (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Rush EVs: 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Rapid Spin - Stealth Rock - Bulldoze - Stone Edge Haxorus (M) @ Lum Berry Trait: Mold Breaker EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Outrage - Earthquake - Dragon Dance - Taunt Zapdos @ Life Orb Trait: Lightningrod EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Thunderbolt - Heat Wave - Hidden Power [ice] - Roost Cofagrigus (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Mummy EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Shadow Ball - Hidden Power [Fighting] - Calm Mind - Rest First 5 battles: 1. 5-0 loss vs. [AO]rupe. 2. 1-0 win in a contest of PP stalling with Hyrule' tst's Chansey and my Zapdos. 3. 1-0 loss vs. Alice.. 4. 6-0 win vs. crep (won by forfeit). 5. 1-0 win vs. Explosms. Have at it! And sorry Owen, had to. Next time on the monocolor series, we go to a color associated with the series' most annoying Pokemon! Shanco
Nothing is stopping this train. Go ahead and make a yellow monocolor anyway, and we'll have a best of 3 to see who is better. How's that sound?
