The Maltese Talonflame Chapter 1: The Cerise Letter

Serra opened her eyes in response to Elias' prodding. She put down her headphones, and slowly moved to turn off the music. She blinked twice, regaining her awareness toward the surroundings. The most immediate problem she noticed was the unfamiliar woman sitting over her desk. "Get off," she said, prodding the woman's butt.

 

Then, she rolled her eyes to Elias. "Did you say something?"

Figuring out the place was clear once again, since he didn't fancy people asking him how much of all that he had heard,  Horace dried himself with the towel before getting out and heading to his belongings to prepare for the meeting.  Magnum on the other hand was thinking how cool would he seem to the other pokemon if he showed off his knowledge of what their humans had been up to. Lucky his smile was pretty obscure to humans, who had trouble discerning the facial expression of anything  that didn't have what they considered a standard mouth. Horace wouldn't have approved of that betrayal.

 

When he entered the room,  some people were already there.  Serra had the looks of someone who had just woken up, and near her was another woman he didn't know, that was currently being prodded in the butt. He stifled a grin and then went "Sup," to noone in particular, before taking a seat.  "The PA mentioned a Samantha. Could it perhaps be you, miss?"  he said to the aforementioned female.

"I was telling you to wake up. This is Samantha, we were supposed to meet her here for the next order of business. Maybe you shouldn't go poking her butt for no reason." Elias said, just as a few people entered. Samantha laughed and said, "Hahaha, no it's good that she knows how to stand up to somebody. At least now I know she isn't a pushover." At which point she turns to Horace, having heard his question, "Yes, I am Samantha. Who might you be?" At which point, she walks up and hugs Horace, and walks back to Serra, hugging her and saying, "And since we haven't been introduced yet, I'm Samantha. Nice to meet you!"

"Hey, too close," Serra slowly pushed Samantha away. "Nice to meet you, too, but I'd like a bit of personal space," she rolled her eyes, before continuing, "anyway, what's the business Elias' talking about?"

[Anime]

Adara arrived at the bullpen, and saw that Serra, Elias, Horace and a woman she didn't recognize were present. Serra pushed the woman away, probably she got into her personal space or something, and then you have Elias who was blabbering something about business, and last ut not least there is Horace who was just sitting. She walked up to the strange woman and said "You must be Samantha, the PA mentioned you. Nice to meet you, i'm Adara" then she walked up towards her cubicle and sat. She wasn't particularly interested in hearing Elias' blabbering.

Jeane followed behind Adara a little bit though once she saw Samatha she pulled her phone out and pointed it at the new face "Oh fun another new person to learn about. So whats your thing?" Jeanne asked as she snapped a picture of Samatha like she as done for everyone else she had meet that day. "Is it something to do with how they handled apprehending  that lady?" she asked as she headed to the desk she claimed as hers.

Samantha was about to answer Serra when Jeanne and Adara entered. She hugged both of them and said, "Nice to meet you, both. I am Samantha and now that all of you are here, after what feels like a week, I can finally get down to the business that Eliot, I think, was talking about." At this point, Elias interrupts, "It's Elias, not Eliot." Samantha smiles at him and says, "Right, right, sorry, Eliems. So, the business I was talking about Sarah, was that you all need to update me on your progress with the case. Dan and Emilia are busy, so now I have to supervise you all. The group from the Forest is not back yet, so we can focus on your investigation till then. Alright, so a quick briefing from one of you, and then let's strategize. We can move into the meeting room near the coffee machine. Let's go. While we walk, umm. Amara! Actually, Eliems, why don't you recap the whole situation. Come on everybody, to the meeting room!" Samantha starts walking away rather quickly expecting the rest to follow.

Elias, wondering if Samantha was stupid or annoying, decided to ignore her error with his name and hurry through a recap.

 

"The case was brought to us because of Professor Oak. He was expecting a delivery of a briefcase, but the courier was attacked on the way and the case was stolen from him in Ilex Forest. We split into three teams, one questioning the courier, one checking the Underground and the third investigating the forest. Serra, Horace and I were in the underground team. Adara and Jeanne questioned the courier here at the office. At the underground, we asked around for what the suspects were described to us, and after a little while, we ran into two Team Rocket grunts, who we battled and defeated. After that, we brought them back here. That is pretty much it from our side. Adara, maybe you can fill in what happened during the interrogation?" He said, as he entered the meeting room behind Samantha.

[Anime]

Adara waited until almost everyone left the bullpen before she stood up and headed towards the cabin. One she was there she listened as Elias started to explain about the investigation, before he decided to rudely disrupt Adara's peace. She walked and stood near him then said " Right, so me and Jeanne decided to question Steve, it took a bit to get him to speak. I don't think you'd want to hear the whole story so i'll save you time and state what we learned. The people who attacked Steve were eerily silent when they commanded their pokemon to attack, two of the attackers looked similar to each other, one of them being a female. Those attackers had a dark red symbol or letter on the torso of their outfits. I believe that is what we found out."

[DemICE]

"Also,"  Horace decided to add to the above "we got the briedcase, but its contents were not what we expected. I think Serra can explain that part better though."

[IntSys]

"Uh huh." Serra glared at Samantha for getting everyone's name wrong. "Anyway. He's talking about this thing," she revealed the briefcase from under her desk. "There's only one folder left here. I'd check it out but we kind of need Oak's permission for that."

[Yash]

Samantha looked at them, listening intently, then says, "Permission, shmermission. We can't wait for that long. Open the case and let's take a look inside." She walks up to Serra's desk, where the case is kept. On examining it, she says, "It's a standard case. Shouldn't be too difficult to open. Any of you have experience with this?" 

[IntSys]

Serra shook her head at Samantha. "It's unlocked." Dummy. That's why there's only one folder left!

 

She opened the briefcase, revealing the folder sitting inside. "Not the kind of person to step over a client's lines, but if you're going to deal with that for me, then go ahead," she took the folder out and handed it to Samantha.

[Yash]

Samantha takes the folder from Serra, opens it and starts reading. Half way through the page, she stands up suddenly, and rushes out of the meeting room. "Oh shit, this is insane. DANIEL! DAAAAANIEEEEL. DANIEEEEEEEEL!" She starts running up the stairs at the other end of the hallway.

 

Elias, seeing this, runs out after her, "What is happening? I think we should follow her." He motions to the others to follow.

[Anime]

After hearing Horace and Serra talk about their findings, the latter handed out the file that was in the briefcase to Samantha who started reading it. It wasnt long before Samantha ran out of the place and Elias followed after her. She thought its better to follow them so she ran after them.

Jeanne was slightly annoyed that it was only a file and a briefcase that was the only thing that they had if she wanted to deal with that stuff she would have stayed home. So once Samatha reacted like she did Jeanne wasn't that far behind her as she left the room they were in after all it seem like she found something interesting.

"Looks like she'll be taking the full responsibility for us," Serra gave chase.

Daniel was on the cusp of finally retiring for an Arceus blessed thirty minutes after he finally managed to shoo away his persistent assistant, and he had just sat down on with a thermos of hot tea, a telenovela that he didn't want anyone to know about, and a late lunch of the kind of bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich that he isn't actually supposed to eat anymore.... when Samantha just had to bang on his office's door and yell out his name as if the fate of the world would be decided on how quickly he would respond with an exasperated, "WHAT IS IT?," as he begrudgingly turned off the television and got up to open the door.

"As if this day couldn't get any worse." Aster mumbled to himself trying to wipe whatever crap he can on the carpet to clean his shoes. He then turned his attention to Frostbite who just so happened to find a trap door. He may as well check it out, if she had reason to assault him like she did she must be hiding something down there. He then opened the door and took a look inside with Frostbite close behind.

"Is it... just... impossible... to have...  a nice relaxing briefing... after a shower?"  A panting Horace mumbled as he was trying to keep pace with the others. "Damn crazy woman."

He eventually would come to a halt and trying to catch his breath in front of Daniel's door along with presumably the others,  where  Samantha would be waiting for it to open.

Aster would rather quickly find a surprisingly modern and spacious looking hallway beyond the trapdoor that clashed somewhat with the rustic (and sort of run down) aesthetic of the mostly wooden cabin he was in before, and he would just as quickly bump into a fork that split towards the left where he could hear a bit of an odd humming sound apparently being produced by something behind a closed door, and to the right where he rather oddly, heard absolutely nothing at all beyond an open door that seemingly lead to what appeared to be... another hallway.

"DANIEL YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE THIS RIGHT NOW!" Samantha screamed to a rather bemused looking Daniel as she practically shoved the folder they discovered in his face, causing the man who was already hoping that whatever this was would be resolved soon to let out a sigh and fish out a pair of reading glasses as he said, "Now now Samantha, I'm pretty sure that whatever it was it can't be tha-." Daniel's words were cut off a bit as he mentally did a double take to make absolutely sure that he was reading what he thought was reading, and he quickly put the folder away and said, "Alright so it is that important," he let out a little sigh before he said something along the lines of, "Well now I know why Oak was so keen on not telling us what the folder contained... he probably just didn't want me to charge him a fortune for it."

Samantha nodded excitedly before she practically shouted out, "WELL NOW WE SIMPLY HAVE TO FIND EVERYTHING RIGHT? I honestly don't know what would happen if-," Daniel cut her off with a, "Yes yes if the surprisingly competent team rocket rehash of a rehash actually managed to find someone who could make use of this information, it's a good thing that you were able to find it Samantha... even though I never actually assigned you to this case."

Horace was awkwardly watching the scene, and when he finally found a free window to speak, he made use of it.  "So, Sir, I gather this is pretty important. Seeing as we are already in this case, I'd like to ask, what is that "everything" we have to find about? And how are we going to go about it?"

[Anime]

Adara stayed silent like the good girl she is. she listened carefully as daniel explained how important that file was. team rocked could be more dangerous than any of them ever thought

Daniel quickly put away the folder before he said, "Something that might be worth millions in the hands of the right buyer, that for some odd reason was delivered to someone who I thought would have absolutely no interest in something of this sort, or any business with knowing about it in the first place," he left a slight pause to consider his response to Horace's question before he continued with, "And while quite frankly I am of the opinion that anyone in your position who can't think of a way to get a viable lead does not belong in this line of work, I believe that you have apprehended a pair of suspects recently is that correct?"

[DemICE]

Horace resisted raising an eyebrow and answered with a straight face. "I was merely looking for a suggestion for someone with more experience, sir, but that's correct. The two criminals should be currently getting prepared for interrogation. They have also been mentally prepared beforehand for the task so it should go relatively smoothly."

Daniel nodded at Horace and put on a commanding tone of voice before he said, "Well I expect a written record of the interrogation on my desk before the end of the day, along with a separate record of your activities so far complete with a list of expenses and a summary of the investigation so far," and moved back to slowly close the door on Horace and the rest of the group, "So go on, don't let me detain you,"
