The Maltese Talonflame Chapter 1: The Cerise Letter

Yours Truly

Recommended Posts

Elias walks alongside Horace as they make their way towards Serra talking with a pokeball vendor. Elias notices Serra and the man in a lane near his shop and points that out to Horace. "Let's go there, in that lane. I can see Serra and the vendor there."

The vendor starts to smile a little when Serra finally started to show what seemed to be interest in purchasing his wares, and he slowly and carefully says the following words; to prevent any misunderstanding, "2500 Dollars for one Secretball, and no, you can't negotiate for a lower price.... as these balls cost a small fortune to make you see, and the materials used to make them are so rare, that I am not sure if there will ever be another batch of them."

"... Tch. Well, apologies, but I think I'll just use the free method of bringing a Pokemon's health down low enough instead," Serra remarked with disappointment, before making her way out of the alley.

She then noticed Elias and Horace, appearing to be looking for her. She strode toward them. "No luck here. We can rule out the contents of the suitcase circulating around here. The vendor I just talked to seemed to have the best ball in the market. And honestly... It's probably easier for his competitors to just snatch one from him and reverse-engineer it. So, what did you find on your end?"

Horace sighs before replying "Accoding to my vendor, the alleyways further inside are a gathering spot for many shady figures. We might have a better chance looking for clues there,  thought we might need to be more careful than we were here.  And the woman we interrogated last, was mostly useless.    I say we move towards the alleyways...."

Elias says, "Yeah, her only help was to suggest looking  at the gangs outside the city, which we are already checking up on. Let's go and check out the alleyway that your vendor said would have some shady figures, Horace." He pulls out his pokeball in his hand, signalling he is ready to go further ahead in case there is some danger.

Jeanne smiled "Thank you Satin time to got back to bed you did great." She told her Feebas while feeding it a blue pokeblock before she returned it to its ball. She then tapped Steve on his shoulder to wake him up from the hypnosis "Thank you, Steve, we got some useful information. I have no further questions for you so you should be free to go I would guess.Unless my colleagues needed anything else. Though I wouldn't leave the building until everything is said and done. You never know when we might need your help again." She said to Steve while giving him a smile and a wink before she left to head to the conference rooms.

Steve instinctively moved his legs to hide something when Jeanne snapped him out of his trance. A familiar blush returned to his face once more before he sheepishly said, "Wwell I can give you my Pokegear number... yyou know, just in case you need any more help."

The short walk back to the conference rooms was completely uneventful as everyone else seemed to be too busy to bother her with anything. Jeanne would hear the sound of genuine sounding laughter coming from inside of the room, and after opening the door she would soon find out that Oak was busy laughing at his own jokes. It did not take long for both Emilia and Daniel to notice her presence, and after a short exchange of pleasantries with Oak, the boss man slowly turned to face her and said, "Well? Have you made any progress on the case yet? Because you do realize that I am not paying you to sit around in the office right?".

"No, splitting up further would be a foolish idea. From my experience you always want someone watching your back and if those thugs are still lurking in the forest they'll just pick us off one by one. I say we search this shrine together. Three versus five is a lot better than one versus six." Aster spoke turning head towards Kyan, arms crossed.

Youngster Not Joey walked a little bit closer to gently poke Aster on his right shoulder to try and get the man's attention before he said, "Wait, why are the three of you looking for thugs anyway?" with a rather curious look on his face.

"Really I thought you were paying me so my daddy would stay happy with you, but don't worry I have been doing something that may be of use. " Jeanne said with a wink before continuing. "We managed to get a bit more out of Steve through one of Satin's abilities. Most of it wasn't much more then what he already told us but the interesting bits are. The people who attacked him were eerily silent, at least one of them was a woman and they had a red letter or symbol on the torso of their outfit. Emilia did a search for any known groups with a red letter or symbol. You know the only one she found?" Jill finished with a rather prideful smile.

Daniel seemed to not miss a beat as he ignored Jeanne's remark and went straight to business by replying with, "Team Rocket, but they disbanded for the second time years ago after they got their collective asses kicked by a pair of young kids who went on to challenge the Poke League." Oak rather helpfully chimed in by interjecting with, "For the second time if I might add; they weren't even the same kids, and I of all people should know best." As Oak finished saying this, Emilia suddenly exclaimed "Because it was his son, his son was there the first time this happened," without even looking up from the large stack of folders she was shifting through.

"Well actually he is my grandson but yes, he was there," Said Oak with a slightly proud smile on his face.
"So what is your theory right now? That the remnants of team rocket's remnants walked up to Steve and risked being discovered to try and steal the Silph Case? Because I seriously doubt that anyone who managed to escape the authorities a second time in a row could possibly be dumb enough to do something so...brazen," said Daniel with a mug in his hand that should really have been empty from coffee a loong time ago.

Serra nodded, before leading the group into the alleyways. She couldn't help but wonder if the others were having any luck.

So imagine this, the three of you were walking down a series of alleyways; the air feels stale and it smells like a mixture of sweat, refuse, and motor oil; the lighting is spotty at times, and you often find it difficult to see ahead of you properly; the floor is marred by the occasional tiny ditch or hole that causes water to pool inside of it. The three of you are headed deeper inside of the Goldenrod underground to find even a glimmer of information you could use to find the still vaguely defined 'missing Lilipup' the professor (and your boss) had charged you with finding.

The search in all honesty seemed a bit fruitless for a moment, especially when the three of you seemed to have a knack for surreptitiously encountering illegal or vaguely legal yet morally bankrupt activities and services that have absolutely nothing to do with what you were here to find.

(Super Overshot + Critical Failure)
But she sees it while Elias was busy with interrogating a man who was in all honesty the world's most suspicious Pokeball repairman; she spots someone passing by herwho held an honest to Arceus briefcase with a badly covered silph co. symbol emblazoned on it. She unconsciously starts to break away from the rest of the group and start to tail the man without a hint of hesitation, as if she had just... assumed that someone would take the hint and spot her before she got too far away, and she wouldn't notice it until it was faaar too late, and the man had already noticed her tailing him... and started to make a run for it.

"Well, I can't say anything for sure, but from what I've heard of Team Rocket the goons of them never seemed that smart. It also wouldn't be the first time Team Rocket has messed with Sliph Co." Jeanne said while taking a seat. "Thats only if it's actually Team Rocket if I was a bad guy with a lick of sense I would dress up as a much more prolific group to try and misdirected people." She finished as she pulled out her phone and started flipping through to see if she had any contacts who might be of help.

"...Tch! Cleffy, Fairy Lock!" Serra snapped back to reality and swiftly hurled Cleffy over the man holding what seemed to be the briefcase they've been looking for. Cleffy would then set up a Fairy Lock around the alleyways, preventing the man from running any further. "Horace, Elias, nail him down!" She then ran after the hopefully trapped man.

Rather unfortunately despite the years you have spent by associating yourself with older and interesting looking men, you do not seem to know of anyone that could actually help you track down the remnants of a criminal organization/learn of any criminal whose MO includes dressing up as a member of another criminal gang to draw attention away from their identity, or at least... not anyone you would want to get in touch with again anyway.

"You say that now obviously since you have never had to deal with them, but let me tell you; if you put aside the fact that they were disbanded two separate times with the help of small children; they were one of the more dangerous and pervasive criminal organizations running around in the world; with their hands in every single criminal enterprise you could think of!. I still don't get why people think that team Rocket couldn't criminal their way out of a wet paper bag these days.," said Daniel as he put his mug down on the coffee table in front of him.

"Probably because they have never met any of them, and Daniel you have to admit; based on the reports I am reading... they're not exactly the sharpest tools in the cupboard. Remember the Slowpoke tail incident?" Emilia helpfully opinionated as she continued to read the rocket report.

"The one down in Azalea Town?," questioned Daniel as he leaned in a tiny bit closer to get a better look at the reports that Emilia was reading. "Oh I remember that one, Kurt still brags about how he hurt his back after he singlehandedly fought off five members of team rocket," Oak helpfully added as he politely smiled and raised his mug to his face again.
 "
Did he actually manage to do that?," asked Emilia with an eyebrow visibly raised in disbelief.

"
No, he later admitted to me that he actually slipped from the stairs and fell on his back. The former champion himself apparently helped him climb back up"

Cleffy quickly snaps to attention as it soars through the air and slowly starts to glow with a queer energy; before it loudly jingles its keys and annoys pretty much everyone in the alleyway around the three of you by blocking off all exits and entrances surrounding its area. This causes the man you were chasing to bump straight into the suddenly materializing wall of chains and padlocks, and he rather swiftly reacts by releasing a rather vicious looking Houndour who immediately attempts to dissuade Serra from approaching any closer by firing off an Ember in her direction. (4 v 5) That fortunately enough misses its mark by a rather wide margin.

Of course you are still trapped in an alleyway with a rather pissed off looking man who uhh...looks a lot bigger now that you have gotten a good look at him, and judging by the expressions visible on the few people who were around when Cleffy worked her magic...it doesn't seem as if you would get help anytime soon, especially since Horace and Elias were apparently not following close behind you all along. Whoops.

@DemICE
(1)
Okay, so apparently Serra wasn't there the whole time; which makes things more than a little bit awkward, as you have been talking at her for the last... 5 or so minutes? You're not really sure, you think she just stepped away from you at least. What you are sure about is that Elias's conversation with this 'Poebal repir shop' guy was going absolutely nowhere, and to be brutally honest the man seems way too... what was that fancy word that one other child used to say about you? Oh right, it was, imbecilic; That's the word, he seems to be too much of an imbecile to be able to figure out what that package contains.... and he genuinely seemed to not have any silver cases or manilla folders anywhere in his shop. You were just about to mention Serra's absence to Elias when he just... flipped the vendor the bird and ran off!.

@Yash

(11)
So this guy is an idiot, you knew this from the moment you saw the sign to his shop; I mean seriously? The man can't even spell the words 'Pokeball' or 'Repair' properly, how in the hell is he supposed to be able to repair a Pokeball?. And quite frankly you are not sure how you even got into this argument about racial profiling, you just came here to ask the man for directions for Arceus's sake! And why the hell was a man working in the arse end of the shadiest district in Goldenrod complaining so much when you asked if his supplies 'fell off a truck' anyway?. It was about the time the man started to complain about white privilege when you notice that Serra has started to run down the alleyway in pursuit of something, and it was also by this point that you lose what little was left of your patience and quickly flip the man the bird before you start to chase after Serra... and lose sight of her soon afterwards as a collision with a slightly attractive looking woman dressed in a black long sleeved shirt and pants sends the both of you sprawling down to the hard and slightly naff floors.

As you slowly pick yourself off of the floor you notice a cerise letter R that has been rather discreetly emblazoned above her right breast, and your knowledge of the underworld allows you to quickly peg the woman as just another team Rocket fangirl as you watch her rub the back of her head through her dark brown hair as she says, "WHAT THE HELL? WHO DOES THAT?"

Damnit, they're not following me. And this guy just had to have an Houndour of all things... I need to stall for more time.

Serra took out her Xtransceiver and called Horace and Elias. "I found a suspect. He's fighting back. Look for the metallic noises!"

Her eyes rolled toward the suspicious man. "You're going nowhere, buddy. Drop the suitcase, or I'll make you. Cleffy, Metal Sound!"

Cleffy then proceeded to emit Metal Sound at the man and his Houndour, torturing their ears. Meanwhile, Serra inched toward a nearby obstacle, ready to take cover should the Houndour fire another Ember at her.

"Its too late to hide that, Steve" Said Adara teasingly, then she registered his number in her Xtransceiver, before she went to a nearby hallway, and called Gastly back to his pokeball "I'm sorry Barth, hopefully you get some action another time" She said, in a low voice, so no one would hear her. Then she headed toward the Conference room where Daniel, Emilia, Jeanne, and Professor Oak were talking about Team Rocket. She did know that Team Rocket disbanded twice, once when they were active in the Kanto region, and the second time was in the Johto region. She took a seat next to Jeanne, and said "It is true that Team Rocket was defeated twice, but it is very likely that they would attempt to regroup and take action once more. For all we know they could've been working in secret for a while now. In any case I suppose we got what we could get from Steve," She looked at Jeanne "Do you think we should head to Goldenrod city, and help investigate? We could get some leads on Team Rocket, assuming they are the ones behind the recent ordeal. Sitting around in the office won't do us much good anyway"

"Shit, I forgot this kid is still here." Aster tried to think of ways to cover that up. But then a light turned on in his head. Maybe, just maybe, this would work.  "We are fighters of justice obviously, super heroes and what not. Couldn't you tell?" He said trying not to glare at the boy.

"Hey wait!"  he shouted to Helias,  although in vain, since the boy had already ran off.  (What the hell is wrong with everyone! First the girl goes and disappears without a word and now this guy who seemed to understand we need to be together moments ago, now goes and runs off on his own! Team my ass!) he found himself screaming internally. "Darn it!"  He started running towards the direction Elias had gone, hoping to catch up to him.

As he was on his way though his Xtransceiver rang and Serra piped up saying her thing. He let an exasperated groan as he reprimanded with "That's what happens when you run on your own without saying a thing! We could have started this together!  I will try to find you anyway!"  He closed the call and kept running towards what sounded like those awful Metal Sound attacks magnemites used to make, hoping Elias had also gotten the message and would follow suit. (Sigh)

As he arrived he witnessed the scene of an uneven matchup between a fire type and a steel type. He also noticed what came with the man Serra was battling: A briefcase with the unmistakable insignia of Silph Co on it. (Hot damn!) he thought aloud.  He also saw what seemed like a magical enchantment that looked like it trapped them in the area. Possibly from the klefki.  So there was no escape for their target... as long as the klefki remains conscious!

He did not need to question whether Magnum was ready or not, because he was always ready.   Remaining as a part of the crowd, yet in a spot where he would have no inhibitions, he discreetly grabbed his "gun" from his inner pocket, and then quickly aimed it on the houndour before pressing the Octazooka "trigger".  Then, before his location is pinpointed, he would move within the crowd to a different spot.

"Yeah, we are looking for the bad guys to punish them. But shhh, this is a secret ok?"

I can't believe I wasted so much time with that idiot. Racial profiling and white privilege my ass. Elias ran straight into an attractive woman, dressed in what he recognized was Team Rocket's uniform. Picking himself off the ground quickly, he gave her his hand to help her up. "I'm so sorry miss. I do apologize for running into you. I ended up loosing my friend in the crowd and was trying to find her. I got distracted by that useless, so called pokeball vendor and ended up running into you. Are you fine miss?" He helps her to her feet. "I'm Elias, and again, I do apologize for the mishap." He dusts himself off, and runs his hands through his hair, trying to make sure he looks fine. His Xtransceiver buzzes, but he puts it on silent, ignoring the alert.

Emilia looks at Adara and says, "I guess that is a good idea. You definitely aren't being paid to sit around here. Since we believe team rocket remnants or someone of that inclination is involved, I recommend heading to the underground. Meet up with Serra, Horace and Elias and let them know what you found out. I'll inform the forest group. Tell the group to wind up their investigation soon and give a status report along with any findings to the rest of us." Emilia then pulls out her Xtransceiver and starts typing something into it.

An awkward moment passed as the kid whose name was definitely not Joey blankly stared at the three of them, as if a part of his mind was busy with trying to think of an appropriate response.
(12)
Rather unfortunately for anyone here who still hoped that they would be able to remain stealthy, the young boy seemed to believe every single word they said when he yelled out, "OH MY GOSH IS THAT TRUE? ARE THE THREE OF YOU REALLY HEROES? BECAUSE NONE OF YOU ARE DRESSED AS HEROES...OH MY GOSH IS THIS A SECRET MISSION? ARE YOU HUNTING DOWN A BAD GUY HIDING OUT IN THE WOODS OR SOMETHING? AND WHAT WERE YOU GUYS CALLED AGAIN?."

Cleffy seemed to have a spark of inspiration as it quickly spun through the air faster and faster, causing the many keys it has on its person to grind and jingle against each other quickly enough to produce a sound that is grating enough to cause a grown man to drop down and vainly attempt to cover his ears, along with his Houndour and the two or so people unlucky enough to be right behind him. His Houndour lets out a sound of great discomfort as it crouched down to the floor and vainly tried to get its opponent to shut up with yet another burst of flame.....

(12)
That against all odds managed to strike true and melt several keys that you have never seen before and cause Cleffy to reflexively drop down to the ground to get away from the blazing inferno... that keeps on going and going until it practically engulfs some unlucky bastard's hotdog stand... and the three other stalls behind it... and the guy manning the first stall who appears to be rolling around on the ground as he screams in pain and complaining about how unjust his life has turned out to be.

Horace's appearance....did not make things any better to be brutally honest, as in his haste he pressed down on poor little Magnum a bit too hard and sprayed a high pressure jet of black ink that was strong enough to create an uncomfortable splash zone around the increasingly wet dog as it travelled through the air and collided into its master's face with a distinct and clearly audible cracking sound that you hoped had nothing to do with either of their necks breaking.

The members of the crowd shot you a dirty look as you tried to move through them, emphasis on tried as someone pushed you out of it soon afterwards... not that you really have a need to hide from anyone now, as you quickly realize that the perp seems to be too busy with cradling his (hopefully only unconcious) Houndour while whinging about how he wanted to go home to plan an attack.

Kayn takes a deep breath while mentally facepalming.

"Heyyy, I told you to stay quiet. What if the bad guys hear you and get to know we're here? And of course we couldn't come dressed or it would be too obvious. Now I'm sorry, but we really need to continue our mission."

"Hm?!" Serra took notice of the Octazooka out of nowhere. "My lucky day, then... You probably can't hear me anymore, now, can you?" She walked toward the man cringing painfully at the Metal Sound and his cracked bones, easily taking the suitcase away as Cleffy glared menacingly at the wreck that was the Houndour.

"Hm, I'm not in a good position to take you along with me. If only they were here... Oh well, this will have to do," she took a picture of the man's face, and another for his full body.

With that, she ran for the exit of the Underground, ringing the Xtransceiver again and calling Horace and Elias. "I've recovered what seemed to be the suitcase. It fits the description fairly well. I'm not in a good position to check right now, though. Also, I've taken a picture of the suspect in possession of the suitcase. I would've taken him with me, but, you know, I'm not exactly the kind of person that can just carry a man bigger than me on my shoulders."

Meanwhile, Cleffy kept a close distance with Serra, making a few light jingling noises as they made their way to the exit.

Adara takes a taxi, and heads toward Goldenrod City. She thought its better not waste anymore time dawdling in the office, and Jeanne would catch up at her earliest convenience.

A few hours passed, and she was in front of Goldenrod. She paid the taxist, and walked toward the pokemon center, she stood there and pulled out her Xtransceiver "Serra, can you hear me? whats the situation? where are you?" She said, as she awaited Serra's reply

Elias runs up to the girl and starts saying, "Well miss uh?" he waits for her name before starting off again, "If you don't mind, I'll help you to make up for knocking into you. I'm a little new to the city anyway and don't really know many people here. It would be good for me to make up for my mistake, and I guess you wouldn't mind the help. What does your friend look like? Is she as pretty as you?"

Unsurprisingly enough the majority of the crowd decided to not mess with the woman who decided to have a Pokemon battle in the middle of a crowded street, and other than a few dirty looks and the vague and ever looming threat of someone calling the police on you (Which is a pretty empty threat all things considered, as someone reporting a violent Pokemon battle occurring in the underground is treated with as much seriousness as one who rather loudly states that water is wet.), you manage to accomplish your dirty business in a relatively unmolested manner as you pry the blood and ink slick briefcase from the suspect's broken and beaten form...just before you quickly fucked off to wherever the hell the exit is supposed to be.

It did not take long for you to find yourself in the long and slightly dank room staircase that leads out of the stairway..perhaps you might want to catch your breath? You did run for a particularly long time to get here after all...

The woman quickened her pace to try and get him away from him as she said, "Well I do mind, and I honestly don't think that you would find my friend Alan to be pretty, so buzz off before you do something that you regret." Rather unfortunately It was at this moment that Elias's feet failed him now as he slipped and fell down to the ground....with his hand pushing her by the ass in just the right way to knock her forward and almost down to the ground. It was at this moment where he knew that he fucked up, and it was also this moment where the woman quickly reacted by quickly turning around to kick him off of her ass and pull out a can of mace in one swift and graceful movement... that caused a rather immense amount of pain to Elias as she promptly shuffled away and bukkakeing the contents of the can on his face.

Kayn takes a deep breath while mentally facepalming.

"Heyyy, I told you to stay quiet. What if the bad guys hear you and get to know we're here? And of course we couldn't come dressed or it would be too obvious. Now I'm sorry, but we really need to continue our mission."

The youngster not Joey suddenly looked sheepish as he covered his mouth and said, "OH! right...that's smart! Well I wish the three of you luck then, and I hope that you find whoever it is you're looking for!".

Aster couldn't help but find the kid's enthusiasm oldly amusing, if not a bit annoying. He may as well go with it at this point. Can't ruin the kid's dream.  "Don't worry kid, The Justice Squad has everything under control." He gave a cold stare to the boy before lifting up Gus right hand to give a thumbs up. Almost like he was on queue, Frostbite left from the bushes in-front of Aster and did a super hero pose as soon as he did that. Then the ice cat immediately went back into the shadows. Aster turned to Jayden before saying,  "Alright, Dr.Abnormal,"   then looking towards Kayn,  "and Rex Arthur, let's head over to the shrine!" With that, Aster and Frost began heading towards the Shrine with his group mates following.

Horace found himself being on the spot, surrounding by people glaring at him, alone, since Serra had already left with the case,  with an ink-covered criminal whose well-being was certainly more questionable than his houndour's who was for sure on critical condition. He was tempted to run away too, but his sense of righteousness couldn't ignore the fact that a criminal was in front of him ready to be captured,  and both him and his pokemon were in need of medical attention too.  There was, of course, the matter of the crowd.

"Everyone please calm down"  he said around him while approaching the criminal, "this man had stolen an important item and we had to take it back.  You, recall your houndour to avoid further damage.  No other sudden movements apart from that. I'm watching you."   Magnum, still on his hand, gave him an intimidating glare that would cause him imagining scenarios much worse than his current predicament. He also spared some extra glares to some people within the crowd that were looking especially hostile.   "Once you are done, you're coming with me."

His Xtranceiver rang again, he picked it up with his free hand without losing sight of the criminal, or lowering Magnum.   Upon listening to Serra, he replied with "yes, I saw, Magnum was the one who shot the Octazooka. I wish you wouldn't have ran. I will apprehend the criminal. I don't know where Elias is though, and seeing as I will have my hands busy, maybe you should see if you can find him. He is not even picking up the calls and it's getting really aggravating."
