I want to upvote Titania before she dies and downvote Cain for overstepping my boundaries constantly and the awkward sexual jokes 24/7. If it wasn't a game he would make me extremely uncomfortable. His character doesn't have much depth either. I'm not saying that he is bad, but I never understood why is he so liked.

So someone else actually has something negative to say about Cain. Finally.

If you ask me, I really think Cain is just an overall nice guy that truly does want the best for everyone. However, Cain is just extremely inconsiderate, and can be downright rude sometimes. And for that, I really just can't like him.

 

First things first, he just downright disappears to get away from his mom and burdens his sister with all his responsibilities. Like really? I understand things are tough, but by no means is that an excuse to burden anyone else. Get help. Do something. Anything other than what you did.

 

Another thing, there is a difference between being uplifting and being an overall freak. Making jokes in certain situations in order to try and relieve the stress of things is great, but if you get a hard on every time you hear the word "hard" or "beat", then you have a problem there. Also, did anyone else get pissed off by the fact that Cain directly made a sexual joke to Shelly? A 12 year old? Really? If you like getting beat by men, step outside. I'll give you the beating of a lifetime.

 

And last thing, in the middle of the Astrae, is anyone bothered by the fact that in the middle of trying to find out where the hell everyone is, he sees Adrienn and decides that nothing else matters until he can find out if xe is a boy or a girl? A little rude, don't you think? Not to mention just downright stupid. But luckily for us, Adrienn is a transcendent being that doesn't conform to standard gender norms, and isn't offended by Cain's insulting question.

 

So overall, despite how kindhearted he may be, I simply find Cain to be not a very good person. I just can't like him really.

 

TLDR; Cain is dumb and inconsiderate so I don't like him.

The other reason why I upvoted Titania instead of Taka is because I didn't want him to become the center of attention and start being beaten to the ground, but it seems I failed him again.

 

@Thundermaze  You can't call it redemption if a character has never been evil. I think he is a great example of a character that has had a very rough life but unlike others doesn't spend 3/4 of his life whining about it. And not only that, despite the dangerous situation he is in he still does a lot to help MC, more than half of our so-called allies.

The main reason I like Cain is that he is... colorful, for lack of a better word (helps that I have a friend IRL that is quite a bit like Cain, too). He tries to stay as positive as possible by cracking jokes not only to ease the tension but to calm himself down as much as he can. When you have a parent that simply doesn't respect you for who you are (in this case, Cain being a pansexual) you ought to grow up with stress and some trouble. When he couldn't take it anymore he gathered all his courage and left. I'm not saying I agree with his choice, but I can see where he was coming from (luckily I haven't been in this position myself, but I can see how it can be hard). Try picturing yourself in his shoes (or boots? or whatever), your mother does not accept that you date people of the same gender as you (we don't know the exact limit to how far, but not accepting it is a pretty clear line that she probably tried to tell him it was just a phase or that there was something wrong with him). That alone puts stress on you, and when you hear that you are to be the replacement Poison Type gym leader, only adding more stress... I can 100% see why he ran off (again, not saying I agree, only that I see his reasoning). The main reason Cain is who he is is that he is finally allowed to be. Nobody telling him to "act normal" and everything. The innuendos and jokes are him relieving the stress he has at that point, which is completely understandable. He's a 16-year-old who ran away from home because he simply couldn't take it there anymore for multiple reasons. so, of course, he will need to relieve stress in the least harmful way. It may be annoying and inappropriate, but it's still better than him leaving a few marks on himself with a knife or something.

I like Cain mostly because he is calm in most intense situations,some called this stupidity i guess,

And he is like your reality check in the game,even in most serious situations,i can keep my calm because of his attitude,i don't know,feels real to me.

You can NEVER EVER weird him out,it's just impossible,remember our first encounter with Terra,anyone else would've freaked out,but Cain can steal the show even from Terra,

He is a star,and he is an alpha character tbh,

and i like how he is not sentimental at all.

Bar Lin I funnily enough like the Meteor crew more than the rest of the cast. Not only does Solaris bear my favourite Pokemon period as his Ace, he's a pretty damn awesome Dragon. The 'impossible' fight atop Mt Pyrous was such a surprise on my first playthrough. Shame he gets wurfed into oblivion by Lin afterwards >_>

Cain is one of my favorites

He's one of the few characters you can really trust along with Shelly.

There are a few others, but Cain's been with you the longest.

Also I'm doing a second play through of the game and I'm at the part where Sigmund abducts Heather and while Shelly's panicking about what to do Cain's just like "JAILBREAK!"

Believe me, for some of us seeing ourselves in a situation like that is more an exercise of memory than one of imagination. 

I can understand why he ran off, and I don't see a problem with that. The problem is the way he did it: leaving his sister (who clearly cared about him) behind and without an explanation and abandoning his pokemon. 

And about the way he acts, I don't mean that he should "act normal", but he should at least have basic respect and a bit of awareness of what the situation is and what is or isn't appropriate in that context.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I find that to be one of Cain's most endearing traits. He has always has a positive attitude and tends to deescalate any troublesome situations. I do hope Cain has some sort of character redemption with everything in E18. You know, make up with Aya, actually realize his faults, and overall works towards being a better person.

Lets be real here though, Adrienn is the real alpha character. Literally everything xe's been involved in has gotten better (well except for that whole Devon incident, but what can you do). But seriously, xe was the main reason that Reborn City was rebuilt. That's dedication.

 

And Adrienn is literally the most uplifting character to talk to. Xe always has a plan to get things done and is always super optimistic about things. Adrienn is amazing and definitely best character material.

 

@Wolfox Again, I think that's great. Cain is a really nice guy. He's positive about most situations and is really uplifting. I can understand what he did and why he did so. The problem I have with it is that, when Cain talks to his sister, he talks about the situation like he is in the right for just up and leaving her. Now there is probably some context left out, we don't know the whole extent of the issue, or if Cain even said anything before he left. But whatever the case, the fact that he left all of his responsibilities on Aya is wrong.

 

Now, about his "attitude". I think it's great, but there is a line between being uplifting in a bleak situation and being appropriate. His "jokes" might make himself feel more comfortable, but I guarantee most of his sexual jokes would make most anyone uncomfortable in the situation. Context is important, and Cain needs to learn what is and isn't appropriate.

 

And finally, I can say I have know people in similar situations. It hurts just knowing their troubles. But none of them ran away. And things improved. I don't blame him for the act of leaving, but I blame him for hurting the people that he did leave.

I liked Taka even before he "redeemed" himself. My secret Guardian Angel.

But honestly, I don't consider his death to be Taka's redemption.

1) He has nothing to redeem himself for, he is on the good side all along, practically winning us the game/saving us God knows how many times.

2) Dieing in such a horrible manner, used as a decoy by Lin, like he is a pile of flesh and bones without feelings and emotions isn't really an honourable death, as he died for nothing. Kiki's death was honourable, died to save Apophyll. Ame's death was honourable, died fighting off the strongest villain in Reborn, to save her friends. Taka died... for nothing. Just used.

 

@walpurgis @Thundermaze @Dragoknight @Wolfox When it comes to Cain, I understand that he is kinda flat as a character and receives a little development till he encounters Aya again at Agate. But he serves as comic relief in a very dark game. That's why he uses sexual jokes that much. I've not felt uncomfortable to them partly because I've heard/done worse myself and mostly because they are funny imho. Also, the joke he says to Shelly, he only says it to us and Shelly happens to be in front. Plus, it's like Anna says: "When it's the least appropriate, it is when joking/being funny is the most necessary!"

TL;DR: Cain has had a tough life and was forced in some choices that weren't the best, but he genuinely cares for everyone and tries hard to help. Don't hate Cain, please...

Please don't misunderstand. I do think Cain is fun and and I truly do appreciate him. He's really nice and is overall just a great person. I think he's pretty cool. It's just that he is rather inconsiderate with a number of his actions. If I could say "Hey Cain, you're being a dumbass", and and have him fix those issues, then sure, he would definitely be my favourite character. But until then, I just don't think he is all that great of a character.

 

I also don't understand how people can dislike Adrienn yet like some of the same traits found in Cain.
