Vex
Hello there, I'm Mori and I'm going to be showing you in depth, my rather successful UU Hail team. I hope you enjoy. AT A GLANCE! INTRODUCTION Coming into the UU tier in Reborn was very different than what I'm used to when I played BETA quite a while ago. Even with how different it is I still find it very enjoyable and fun to play, mainly because of the ton of others that have recently picked it up in SU. Seeing as many of the major UU threats are actually in higher tiers on Reborn (Zapdos, Heracross, Shaymin etc) it basically keeps a much wider variety when it comes to picking the slots on your team. A nice change from the usual walls and sweepers that we all see at the moment. From my experience in playing UU here a little while now, I've come to see the use of Pokemon from much lower tiers simply because they can fit so well and be a major threat even two tiers up. In this team preview I shall analyze each of the Pokemon and tell you why I've picked them for each spot. I hope you find this useful! THE GANG Venturesome (Snover) (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Snow Warning EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Leech Seed - Blizzard - Wood Hammer - Ice Shard You can't have a Hail team without Snow Warning and seeing as his older family member Abomasnow is Borderline, this little guy is the next best thing! Alright sure he isn't the strongest of Pokemon or the most useful. Sometimes he might even just be death fodder. But with max HP and SDef he can sure as hell take a hit before going down. And actually takes special Water type attacks very well. You could run Eviolite but I find the lack of recovery very frustrating. I like to stick the remaining EV's into Atk just for that little extra damage on his STAB Ice Shard for 2HKOing Flygon. Also never underestimate the power of STAB Blizzard or Wood Hammer, both can deal a huge load of damage if the enemy isn't expecting it. But most of the time they will be so for poor Snover he doesn't get an awful lot of field experience. Rekkles (Basculin) (M) @ Choice Band Trait: Adaptability EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Aqua Jet - Waterfall - Superpower - Crunch Oh Rekkles, what would I ever do without you? I simply adore this Pokemon, I'd compare him to Azumarill in many aspects but with the bonus of being surprisingly speedy. Although lacking in the outrageous Huge Power gained from using Azumarill, Basculin still completely wrecks as a late game sweeper. Adaptability coupled with a Choice Band and a STAB priority attack in the form of Aqua Jet is EXTREMELY deadly. Most neutral hits can be KO'd from the 50% range with this monster, meaning MOST super effective hits takes around 70-100% in some cases a little less. For example after countless tests I've come to see Basculin take down Krookodile from 80% multiple times, with Krookodile being such a huge threat in the UU tier right now I find Rekkles to be my perfect counter. Superpower and Crunch are obviously just for coverage, but also with tested experience Basculin's Superpower does around 75% to a max HP Umbreon, depending on min max I've hit bigger. Rekkles will always be my solid sweeper of choice. Ruckus (Nidoking) (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Sheer Force EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Blizzard - Flamethrower - Thunderbolt - Earth Power Sometimes the power of this machine completely stuns me, in Hail the access to 100% accurate Blizzard is too big a gift to give up. Modest, Life Orb and Sheer Force all combined is really one of scariest things I've ever come across in terms of damage output. Thunderbolt is for those pesky Water types that are always giving me trouble, but being Poison type, Nidoking has the ability to easily jump in and sponge a Toxic. Although relatively slow (in my humble opinion) compared to other sweepers, you never laugh at a Nidoking because it may be the last thing you ever do. I did originally have the idea of scarfing him and the thought still comes through my mind every now and then but seeing as I'm more of a stall based team, I have plenty of things available to tank hits for old Ruckus. Earth Power is for fantastic STAB and Flamethrower takes down Ferroseed easily which can give me a bit of trouble. Beamos (Dusclops) (M) @ Eviolite Trait: Pressure EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Rest - Will-O-Wisp - Seismic Toss - Sleep Talk After being completely walled by Dusclops one too many times I decided to give him a shot. One thing I find very interesting and I'm always up for discussion on is Eviolite Dusclops, now in regard to using it on Dusclops I actually find it very effective seeing as it boosts his already CRAZY Def and SDef but it's always the lack of recovery that puts me off. Now more than ever, using a Hail team my health will be slowly destroyed so i stuck on Leftovers to negate the Hail damage. I stole the moveset from Hori because I think her Dusclops is super and walls so much of my team (Thanks Hori). Originally I had Miltank in this spot but after a while I found the Fighting weakness on my team very annoying. I run max SDef because I can easily just burn any physical threats, if I don't miss of course.. Due to Will-o-Wisp and Hail damage, Dusclops makes an excellent staller. Alone (Walrein) (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Ice Body EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 SDef Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Substitute - Protect - Blizzard - Toxic One of, if not THE most annoying Pokemon to deal with on a Hail team, it's Walrein. With Leftovers and Ice Body Walrein restores a total of 2/16 of it's total health every turn. Not only does this make him a fantastic stall machine but it nearly makes him unkillable if played correctly. Setting up a free substitute on the switch gives the chance to lay down a Toxic and begin your evil, EVIL stall of death. Be careful when trying to stall out an Umbreon, remember Synchronize does hit you through a sub! Blizzard is for powerful stab, Max HP is obvious for stalling purposes, near max Def means you can take plenty of physical hits whilst still getting to set up your sub. Protect and Substitute as much as possible, even if you feel like a complete douchebag it's of the most importance for gradually melting their HP! Stainless (Registeel) @ Leftovers Trait: Clear Body EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def/ 4 SDef Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Thunder Wave - Iron Head - Seismic Toss - Stealth Rock I don't think this team would even be possible without Registeel. He is such an important player on the squad, setting up Stealth Rocks is his main job. However getting a T-wave onto a speedy sweeper can completely ruin someones day. With the STAB Iron Head and possible flinch chance, he can also turn out to be quite the haxer.. Max Def and HP means I can take at least one very hard hitting physical attack. Remember on this team that Stealth Rocks is the number one priority and helps with 50% of the stalling tactic. Having a Moltres drop to 50% from simply laying them down is insanely useful and all those Flying types going around right now? Say goodbye to them as they won't be able to touch Registeel, unless of course it's a Honckrow with Superpower. Even then I highly doubt it would one shot without +1 or a crit. This guy is the meaning of bulky! OUTRO So that's my UU Hail team! I don't really think of myself as a great battler but I'd like to think I'm pretty creative when it comes to teambuilding. I quite enjoyed making this RMT, so I'll probably start working on my UU Sun team quite soon and get that up here too. Again, I'm not the best at battling but if you want to give me a battle feel free to PM me on the server. My usual names are Godrick or Wolfgang. Anyway, if you have any feedback you wish to give me or suggestions, please let me know below and I'll get back to you. Thanks and I hope you enjoyed my team!~ Edited December 22, 2012 by Vex

Summer
Registeel y u no 4 EVs Ahem. Anyone who uses Basculin instantly gains my eternal respect, and I've noticed one thing; without Basculin your team is basically half-lost. Sure, you have Nidoking, but I doubt it can outspeed Scarfed Pinsir/Krookodile. Your Dusclops also desperately need that Evolite. You already have Rest; why go for more HP over Bulk? Well I... can't think of anymore stuff so see ya.

When Basculin goes down early I tend to have problems but that's normally only due to hax or a random burn etc. Walrein is more than enough to deal with Krook, Pinsir destroyed by Dusclops ^^ Thank you for the feedback~ -Also I fixed the EV's derpy derp- Edited December 22, 2012 by Vex

I wasn't really either until the last week or so, I suggest making a team and giving it a shot, it's a nice break from all the standard nonsense. ^^

Kamina
team seems very solid and i like your use of basculin! I kinda feel as though you need a rapid spinner somewhere (though im not sure which pokemon to replace without messing up your nice synergy] but other than that i cant find many flaws with team. we should UU sometime. 9/
Vex
I kinda feel as though you need a rapid spinner somewhere I was considering this quite a bit in creation of the team, but usually I can still do okay.. As long as I can prevent them from setting up the full set but as for the spinner, there isn't really any that I'm a fan of in this tier. Thanks for the rating and we should definetly battle sometime! Edited December 24, 2012 by Vex
