Cultures, cultures, cultures!

Recommended Posts

Well aside from the boring English and American people, Reborn has a few people from unknown cultures! And I totally want to share stuff about my country's culture, as well as hear about others. So feel free to share music and stuff from your country.

Although this is not played 100% by Portuguese people, it is close to Portuguese music. I could post our REAL traditional music (Fado) but no one like that... I kind of do buut.... Meh...

Well here it is! Later I will post some Portuguese rock if this thread goes anyways!

Brazil isn't just Samba and Carnaval..

We have many peculiar genres. Much like this one, for example, which was called MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) or Brazillian Popular Music.

Tem dias que a gente se sente ||||| There are days when we feel

Como quem partiu ou morreu ||||| Like who's gone or dead

A gente estancou de repente ||||| Either we've suddenly stopped

Ou foi o mundo então que cresceu... |||||Or it was the rest of the world that grew...

A gente quer ter voz ativa ||||| We want to have an Active Voice*

No nosso destino mandar ||||| Order our own destiny

Mas eis que chega a roda viva ||||| But then comes the Living Wheel**

E carrega o destino prá lá ... ||||| And takes destiny over there

Roda mundo, roda gigante ||||| World wheel, Giant wheel

Roda moinho, roda pião ||||| Windmill wheel, top wheel,

O tempo rodou num instante ||||| Time's spun in an instant

Nas voltas do meu coração... ||||| On my heart's laps

A gente vai contra a corrente ||||| We walk against the current

Até não poder resistir ||||| Until we can't take it anymore

Na volta do barco é que sente ||||| On the ship's way back that we feel

O quanto deixou de cumprir ||||| How much we haven't accomplished

Faz tempo que a gente cultiva |||||| For a long time we've grown

A mais linda roseira que há ||||| The most beautiful rosebush there is

Mas eis que chega a roda viva ||||| But then comes the Living Wheel

E carrega a roseira prá lá... ||||| And carries the rosebush over there...

Roda mundo, roda gigante ||||| World wheel, Giant wheel

Roda moinho, roda pião ||||| Windmill wheel, top wheel,

O tempo rodou num instante ||||| Time's spun in an instant

Nas voltas do meu coração... ||||| On my heart's laps

A roda da saia mulata |||||| the wheel on the mulata's skirt

Não quer mais rodar não senhor ||||| doesn't wanna spin anymore, no sir

Não posso fazer serenata ||||| I can't make a serenade

A roda de samba acabou... ||||| The samba wheel's over..

A gente toma a iniciativa ||||| We take the initiative

Viola na rua a cantar |||||| Guitar to the street, singing

Mas eis que chega a roda viva ||||| But then comes the Living Wheel

E carrega a viola prá lá... ||||| And takes the guitar over there...

Roda mundo, roda gigante ||||| World wheel, Giant wheel

Roda moinho, roda pião ||||| Windmill wheel, top wheel,

O tempo rodou num instante ||||| Time's spun in an instant

Nas voltas do meu coração... ||||| On my heart's laps

O samba, a viola, a roseira ||||| The samba, the Guitar, The rosebush

Que um dia a fogueira queimou ||||| That one day the fire's consumed

Foi tudo ilusão passageira ||||| T'was all just a fleeting illusion

Que a brisa primeira levou... ||||| That the first breeze took away.

No peito a saudade cativa ||||| Nostalgia*** in our chest captivates

Faz força pro tempo parar ||||| Tries hard to stop time

Mas eis que chega a roda viva ||||| but then comes the Living Wheel

E carrega a saudade prá lá ... ||||| And takes nostalgia over there...

Roda mundo, roda gigante ||||| World wheel, Giant wheel

Roda moinho, roda pião ||||| Windmill wheel, top wheel,

O tempo rodou num instante ||||| Time's spun in an instant

Nas rodas do meu coração...(4x) ||||| On my heart's laps (4 times)

* - Active Voice was a claim of the brazillian, to have a say in their own fate, and in the country's fate as well, even if small.

** - This song was entered in a contest while Brazil was under a Military regime, such represented by the Living Wheel in the song

*** - Not quite Nostalgia. The word saudade is kind of a noun-ization of the verb "To miss something". When we say "I miss eating potatoes", we say "tenho saudade de comer batatas".

Mexican National athem, which I was introduced to by a spanish station back home that was apparently stationed in Juarez. It would play it every night at midnight.

And a pop song popular probably about 8 years ago while I was still in high school that I would hear on that same station.
