I beg of you, remove the sand dune slowdown

I totally get what whoever implemented them was going for, but oh my god please remove the slowdown from traversing sand dunes. Not only does it make traversing the huge desert way slower, it also makes my eyes and brain hurt from the constant speed up slow down. Let me buy a dune buggy or something, I plan on doing a new playthrough next episode and i really don't want to go through this pain again

Pffft yeah you're not alone with your opinion this one.

But I doubt Ame is going to want to change anything about this. I remember I complained about it to her face the other month, and from what I recall her telling me, the reason is pretty much that she feels it will make the desert seem flat and fake otherwise. See, we've got those beautiful dunes, and she thinks it would kinda ruin the immersion if we could just walk over them like we're on flat ground.

Personally I'm not entirely convinced by that, because after all we don't slow down when walking upstairs somewhere, either. But I can see where the argument is coming from.

Building the illusion of higher ground in a technically completely flat landscape is difficult enough, I guess she just wouldn't want to sacrifice the one thing that makes it look at least a bit like we're trodding over actual sand hills.^^

I mean, it's easier to walk up stairs than up a sand dune.

Stairs don't have your feet sinking into them as you climb, difference is that trying to run up sand dunes and other surfaces that sink as you step on them is that they mostly provide some kind of resistance to attempts to move fast on them and the result is using more effort whereas stairs are flat and solid.

The point wasn't that climbing dunes is the same difficulty as climbing stairs - it's that I personally do not experience a disruption in my suspension of disbelief if the game doesn't slow you down for something that would normally be slower than walking on flat ground. Basically, just like how being able to climb a huge staircase without effort doesn't make the stairs feel flat to me, walking over the dunes in normal speed wouldn't ruin the dunes for me.

The slowing down effect hardly helps the immersion imho, because at the end of the day your character still half-floats over their edges anyway.

tl;dr I get Ame's point, I just personally don't think the slowing effect adds anything to the desert experience

I kinda like the slow down effect because if (like me and 99% of other players) you find it inconvenient, well...

1. That's exactly the point (crossing a huge desert shouldn't be convenient)

2. It makes you want to follow train tracks and otherwise walk where the ground looks flatter, which is probs what a person lost in the desert would do

So yeah I understand that it's an annoyance but I personally wouldn't remove it.

i will just say that some annoyances are intentional, to reflect the player's feelings at that point in time.

Just like i know some people preffer the Zekrom route because of that feeling of treversing a huge desert alone, desperately looking for an oasis to rest up

As Ame herself said, some time ago: "If you suffered, i suffered first!"

Referring to puzzles and game adversities, from what i gathered at the time.

People, this is not a canon pokemon game, to spoon-feed us... This is a real challenge, to get satisfaction out of suffering!

Just because this isn't Insurgence doesn't mean everything has to be fun. I'm not much of a fan of the desert either, even without the dunes (though I did like the scrapyard.)
