Joker
Slippin' Slide! Hello once again, friends! I'm here to bring you yet another RMT, I hope you enjoy it! This team will focus mainly on a phasing Dragonite, so it should be interesting, at least. Without further ado, let's dive in. Team Building Process: Seeing as I was going to abuse Phasenite, I needed someone to set up rocks. I was originally going to choose Tyranitar, but since that would contradict Multiscale, I went with Terrakion here. Now, obviously, if I'm gonna use a Pokemon so weak to Rocks, I will need a proper spinner to get rid of them. I wanted someone rather fast, who could reliably spin while dishing out big damage at the same time. Thus, Starmie was the obvious choice. Weather is very helpful with a team centered around setting up hazards, and shifting the opponent around. Sadly, Rain was my best option since I was using Dragonite to do all the phasing for me. While it doesn't do additional damage, it does help weaken Fire moves, and gives Starmie a boost in case I screw up with my battle plan. Ferrothorn here is the main reason Rain is so important. But, I won't go into much detail there. Anyway, Ferrothorn's main purpose on the team is to set up Spikes, which alongside Stealth Rocks, makes Dragonite's job so much better. Here's the main Pokemon himself. As you may have picked up on, this is a Phasing Dragonite. His main purpose is to Dragon tail the opponents team around once all my hazards have been set up. The last member of the team is a Ghost we all know and love, Gengar! His purpose is pretty simple, spin blocking. After all, I can't have all my hazards being spun away. In Depth: @ Focus Sash Trait: Justified EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Stealth Rock - Swords Dance - Close Combat - Stone Edge Terrakion is a very useful lead, he's such a powerful threat in OU that most people will switch into that proper wall as soon as he shows up. Which is what makes him a great lead. He will almost always force a switch, making setting up my Rocks an easy task. The rest of the set is pretty much for a late game sweep in case my phasing fails. I have Swords Dance for a quick +2 attack, which hits everything hard with his nice dual STAB Close Combat and Stone Edge. The Focus Sash is for leads that could harm him, basically making setting up Rocks a sure thing. @ Life Orb Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Rapid Spin - Thunderbolt - Hydro Pump - Ice Beam Starmie, like mentioned before, is my Rapid Spinner. Of course, it's not the only thing it can do. I have Hydro Pump for STAB damage, and in Rain, nearly perfect accuracy and a nice damage boost along with Life Orb. Thunderbolt hits flying types like Tornadus hard, while Ice Beam hits Dragons and Breloom hard. Starmie also functions as a special sweeper in case things get rough. @ Leftovers Trait: Drizzle EVs: 192 HP / 252 Def / 64 SAtk Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Protect - Encore - Scald - Hypnosis Politoed is my physical wall, and weather set up Pokemon of choice. I have Protect to get more Leftovers recovery, while Scald is there in hopes of burning something, all while providing nice damage in rain. Encore really helps with set up sweepers like Dragonite, or Calm Mind Jirachi. And Hypnosis is there to put them to sleep should they stay in. I divided up the HP and SAtk evs so Toed could pack a little punch with Scald. @ Leftovers Trait: Iron Barbs EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Spikes - Power Whip - Leech Seed - Gyro Ball My special wall, and Spikes set up Pokemon. Ferrothorn is built to take anything special aimed at Politoed or Starmie, and setting up Spikes accordingly. Leftovers combined with Leech Seed helps him survive even longer, while Power Whip and Gyro Ball are for STAB damage should the need for attacking arise. I also put a little physical bulk in him in case he needs to take any stray physical attacking moves that threaten the team the most. @ Leftovers Trait: Multiscale EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Substitute - Thunder Wave - Roost - Dragon Tail Now for the best part. The Phasing Dragonite. I've grown to love this thing a lot. I will usually switch Dragonite in on Pokemon he can completely wall, like a Breloom. Set up a Substitute, and either Roost, or just phase the Pokemon out with a Dragon Tail. Thunder Wave helps Dragonite cope with his slow speed, since I don't have any speed evs. While Roost gains HP back. He's built to be specially bulky, so his phasing job becomes easier. I could split his defensive evs equally, but I'm not too sure if that would be of use or not. @ Black Sludge Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Substitute - Disable - Shadow Ball - Focus Blast This is your standard Sub+Disable Gengar. Gengar serves as the teams spin blocker, and provides extra resistance for the team as a whole. Substitute is nice to have on Fighting or spinning switch ins, since most can't touch Gengar, prompting a switch as you Sub. While Disable can take away the only thing they can hit you with, if they stay in. Shadow Ball gives a nice STAB attacking, and Focus Blast hits steel and dark types hard. I have Black Sludge for HP gain, also helps against trick should a Pokemon carry it. Like always, I hope you enjoyed the RMT, and you can find the importable below. Happy battling! Big Terry (Terrakion) @ Focus Sash Trait: Justified EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Stealth Rock - Swords Dance - Close Combat - Stone Edge Asterisk (Starmie) @ Life Orb Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Rapid Spin - Thunderbolt - Hydro Pump - Ice Beam Kero (Politoed) (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Drizzle EVs: 192 HP / 252 Def / 64 SAtk Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Protect - Encore - Scald - Hypnosis I'mSoThorny (Ferrothorn) (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Iron Barbs EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Spikes - Power Whip - Leech Seed - Gyro Ball Chunkybum (Dragonite) (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Multiscale EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Substitute - Thunder Wave - Roost - Dragon Tail Smiley (Gengar) (M) @ Black Sludge Trait: Levitate EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Substitute - Disable - Shadow Ball - Focus Blast
Wes
Not to be rude, but there's really nothing to rate considering this is compiled of extremely standard Smogon OU sets.
Summer
I don't really have anything to say, except for your Dragonite, Draco Meteor > Sub. If Dragonite gets burned or the enemy is down to one last member, you could really pull off this surprise card. Not that sub helps you anyways. Shgo
It looks like your team is ready to take on... THE GOONS!!!!! Finally! Ferrothorn without Protect!! That officially makes it 10/10 would bang if it wasn't so pointy >> As for the rest of the team, I would suggest Perish Song on the toed but Hypnosis has it's uses so there's no real problem there(you could always run Haze in memory of crep tho q:). Now onto the threats.. SD/Close Combat/Espeed/Bullet Punch Lucario can be a problem if dnite and toed have been weakened. I don't know if it's released or not but since reborn tiers, Growth/Grass STAB/Weather Ball/HP Ice Venusaur can also sweep your team if rain is gone and dnite's scale is broken(keep in mind it doesn't have to be at +2 to sweep). That's all I can really think of atm and these threats are easily dealt with anyway. I'm probably missing something but I don't really do competitive anymore so this will have to do! 10/10 man, nicely done c:
Shanco
Here's my bit - Regarding Team Synergy: Overall speed seems to be an issue here. In that regard, you're in a point of limbo where not only will teams with overall faster Pokemon / weatherspeed and/or boosted Speed will beat ya, but also Trick Room teams will have a heyday, and Starmie doesn't quite alleviate that problem. My recommendation is Seismitoad, perhaps in the place of Terrakion. Takes advantage of rain with Swift Swim, reasonably bulky with one weakness (Terrakion has six, iirc), and can set up Stealth Rock. Lead? I guess it can do. Has enough survivability to come back for more in a revenge kill opportunity later on. This will be amended as I don't want to lose progress should my phone die. Hmm, I think I will try Seismitoad! Any sets you have in mind? As for the speed thing. Yeah, it's rather slow, and to be honest, a Tornadus-T would pretty much destroy my team. However, there isn't too much I can do about that since the team is based around a phasenite. I guess I could go with faster hazard laying Pokemon? I'm just not sure what to use, and don't want to alter my type synergy too much. I don't really have anything to say, except for your Dragonite, Draco Meteor > Sub. If Dragonite gets burned or the enemy is down to one last member, you could really pull off this surprise card. Not that sub helps you anyways. The main reason I run sub is for switch ins and scouting. With Multiscale, Nite can live any unboosted attack regardless of if it's super effective, Sub works well with set up sweepers too, as I can sub on their Dragon Dance or Swords Dance, and then Dragon Tail them out the next turn. Regardless, I will try Draco Meteor and see how it does. It looks like your team is ready to take on... THE GOONS!!!!! Finally! Ferrothorn without Protect!! So if he's at Full HP, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. As for Toed, went and switched to Perish Song. Thanks for the suggestions, and keep em coming if you have any. Shanco
Try this (or if not this, then perhaps something similar). Harassment Seismitoad Seismitoad (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Swift Swim EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Surf - Earth Power - Stealth Rock - Focus Blast Seismitoad works well as a Stealth Rock setter in rain due to its decent defensive typing and Swift Swim. Well, at least it does better than Terrakion, who is just begging to get blasted by rain counters. It's also got a fancy special move pool which lets it come back later and pull off a clean sweep late-game after all of their Pokemon have been thrown around. Surf is your STAB, as Scald just doesn't hit hard enough. Earth Power gives you another hard-hitting STAB, and takes things down like Metagross and Raikou. Focus Blast shows Ferrothorn who's boss (along with some other Grasses out there).
Lord Emvee
Cool team bro. I would recommend Shed Shell on Ferrothorn over Leftovers. Everyone has seen me use it on the ladder, and get annoyed when I switch out of Shadow Tag Chandelure. It is quite effective and it could come in handy for you. I would also recommend Taunt over Sword Dance on Terrakion, so you can shut down common set up leads (bar Deoxys-S). Next, go with Perish Song over Protect on Politoed, as it will help you phaze and/or finish off a final Pokemon that is tough to kill. You wouldn't really need Protect anyways especially since you're not running a Toxic set. And you don't need SAtk EV's on Politoed because you don't want it to pack a punch (otherwise you should use a Scarf set) you probably want it to live longer in order to win the weather war. Go with 252 HP, 252 Def, and 4 SDef (Calm Nature). Finally, your team could have a lot of trouble beating SS Ludicolo. Maybe try Thunder-Wave over Gyro Ball on Ferrothorn. This way, you can live a Focus Blast on full or near full HP, and cripple it with T-Wave so another member of your team can beat it. Hope this helps! Jory
Personally, I prefer bulky Starmie. But that's just me and you don't see me going to #1 on the ladder. Just in case you're interested, here's the set: Starmie @ Life Orb Trait: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Scald - Psyshock - Recover - Rapid Spin I find this is a pretty solid counter to Terrakion, as you can come in on a resisted CC and spin away hazards by threatening him out. You can also Recover away the Life Orb damage. It hits pretty hard, even without SAtk investment.
