Guest Relinquished
I have a great deal of trouble, understanding and using, a certain gameplay maneuver/element, which is basic to lots of titles in the series... Specifically, "Shinespark". Anybody able and willing to briefly tutor me, would be much appreciated. I hit a dead-end.

Lorisaur
METROID PLAYERS REALLY EXIST??? AAAAAAW I TRULY LOVE METROID SHINESPARK works differently in the various games: if you are having trouble with it you are probably playing super metroid: In that game, in order to shinespark you have to run until you get the speed boost and press one of down, aim up or aim down, so that your suit gets flashy and you have stored energy. To shinespark upwards you need than to simply jump, to shinespark diagonally you have to jump while aiming up and to shinespark horizontally you have to jump while slightly walking. Timing is different from Zero Mission, where you just have a big time window to insert a direction. You cannot shinespark downwards in any way. Shinespark stops immediately when life gets below 30hp or when Samus hits a wall/ceiling (with couple exeptions). Spinjumping wont trigger a shinespark, so you can midair shinespark by spinjumping, shooting to interrupt the spin and midair jumping. Also midair jumping can be aimed in any way. I know to not be the first one to answer and that I'm late, but i wanted to have fun in writing this answer

Guest Relinquished
Well, to be honest, i am actually playing the "almost" nominated best fan made creation of 2016, "Another Metroid 2 Remake" fangame! 1.4 version is out, with multiple additions, fixes, game modes, new ending, etc!!! I am struggling with learning how to shinespark, although, thanks to that vid, i already make progress. Am inside factory level... Only thing i have yet to actually get a hang of it, now, is the rolling ball shinespark (speed boosting while being a ball)... Working on it! I never sat down to play through an entire Metroid game, ever, i only briefly touched the Snes one (Super Metroid?), many years ago... This game is so excellent, though, that made me really want to go through it!
Godot
I never bothered with AMR2 because 1. It’s not official and is a pain in the ass to find and download. And 2, I don’t like Metroid 1 and 2. 3, 4, and prime trilogy are gold.

And finding/downloading its current, 1.4 version, is very, very easy (you need a copy/back-up of 1.1, the "final" version during the cease&desist era, plus the new big patch to merge). I would really urge you, if not play it, to at least sample it! It's so good, on so many levels! I was never a Metroid person, let alone fan, myself, yet i feel i MUST complete this masterpiece! I even plan to try the new game modes and go for all endings!!!
Lorisaur
Never played AM2R as metroid II and the remake satisfied me so much, but someday I'll cover it too!
Godot
My issue with Metroid 2 isn’t the gameplay. AMR2 and Samus Returns fixes most of that. My issue is the game itself. The structure of Metroid 1 and 2 is what I can’t get behind. And adding tons of shiny new bells and whistles won’t fix that.
