Ryan C / Shanco / that noob / whatever you prefer is back to arrange the first theme tournament in almost a month! We used to do them once a week, but I have no idea what happened. Anyway...
The theme tournament is "Gen IV Style".
Allow me to elaborate...
I seldom played competitive Gen IV, but from what I can tell you it was a pretty swish generation. The physical/special shift made some Pokemon like Salamence much stronger while others like Steelix got shafted by getting more or less nothing. The core became overall stronger. This Theme Tournament aims to bring back the glory of the days of Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, where Scizor and Crobat destroyed worlds, weather wasn't so bloody prevalent, and neither were those mighty Dragons.
A few simple bans are all we need in order to get back to those times, while keeping all our old favorite Pokemon from the new generation.
What will be banned:
  • All Hidden Abilities will be banned. If you are uncertain of what a Hidden Ability is, check your Pokemon's list of Abilities in the Teambuilder. It will be the last Ability listed if it has two or more Abilities.
  • The item Eviolite will be banned.
  • Also, the Ability Sand Rush will be banned, as it would be a very unfair advantage.
  • Garchomp is banned, as Evasion Clause prevents it from using its only usable Ability.
  • Furthermore, I am considering banning Genesect and Deoxys-S as well, due to the advantage that they would provide. The decision to ban them will be announced sometime prior to the tourney's start.
What will not be banned:
If it's not banned in this generation, it will not be banned from the theme tournament unless stated otherwise. This includes Salamence, Latios, and Latias.
As usual, the following clauses apply:
  • Sleep Clause
  • Freeze Clause
  • Species Clause
  • Self-KO Clause
  • Evasion Clause (No Evasion boosting moves, Abilities, or items are allowed; Lax Incense and Brightpowder are allowed)
  • OHKO Clause (Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Fissure are banned)
We're aiming for an 8PM start, and you can signup anytime before then. However, in the event that the tournament will be delayed (unlikely, but possible), I will make that announcement about the same time as the decision to ban Deoxys-S and Genesect.
Come out and have fun have fun, people!

The Theme Tournament, unfortunately, must be delayed. It'll begin at 8:30 PM. My apologies if this poses as an inconvenience, but it means you have another hour to decide whether or not to join, so if you haven't decided yet, you can dwell on it a little bit longer.

Also, an overwhelming majority of the people I asked want Deoxys-S and Genesect banned, so that means yes,
Deoxys-S and Genesect are no longer usable in this theme tournament.
In addition to that, I should have said this before, but if there is any question about the legitimacy of the battle, please send me the log of the battle. I will do my best to make sure that this goes smoothly (I am not entering myself) so that it's fair and all that good stuff.
The following Pokemon have been banned:

  • Genesect
  • Deoxys-D
  • Sandslash and Sandshrew
  • Cacturne and Cacnea
  • Garchomp, Gible and Gabite
  • Beartic and Cubchoo
  • Glaceon
  • Froslass

(That Evasion Clause is a bitch)

See y'all in an hour

To Xiph: Well, the whole point was to involve Gen V Pokemon in a Gen IV-style environment. It'll be interesting to see how strategies change.

  • 1 month later...

Posting here because I've noticed we haven't done one of these Theme Tournaments in almost two months, and I want to let you guys know that this isn't something that was killed off. It's just been something that, to the best of my knowledge, has been kinda put to the side in light of Kiozo's technical difficulties, as well as others' streams and Nonary games. I have full interest in kicking these back in gear on Sundays and possibly even during League downtime, but of course it's not up to me - I'll talk with someone about the matter, hopefully sometime tomorrow.

Rest assured, though, these haven't been totally forgotten about!
