Med Down
So, as the title says, I'm doing a monotype run of Reborn. I also thought about why my character would be only using one type. The in universe answer that makes the most sense, is that they wanted to be a gym leader. So I also decided that they probably went to Reborn to train to become a gym leader in their home region, because why not? But then I remembered something strange about Reborn's gym leaders, specifically relating to Noel, the normal type leader. They mention that his Clefable is a "wildcard", and that's why he's allowed to use a fairy type. Later in the game Florina battles with you, and she uses a Hippowdon, which I assume is her wildcard. So, do you think my Monotype run should allow me to use a wildcard? I think if I do use one, I'll restrict it to being water-y, as I'm doing a mono water run. I'll probably use a Goomy, since I haven't seen any important trainers using one, I think it can be a good fit. I've basically already decided to use a wildcard, I just wanted to know your opinion on it. Edited August 11, 2018 by Med Down
Med Down
Ok, as a side note about strange third eye AI decision making, I have a Lightningrod Goldeen, and Julia didn't once use an electric move on me. Is she supposed to know that I'm Lightningrod? I can't remember if the official game AI does that, but it's annoying, it was a much harder fight without her boosting my special attack. XxSilentWinterxX
I think the reason Noel is allowed to keep his Clefable was because before it was a fairy type, it was a normal type. Plus, it is a wildcard which makes it an added challenge. Also, for Hippowdon, Florinia isn't a grass gym leader, but her team is based around sand while with some added grass types. Hippowdon would make sense given her sand field. However, I don't really see anything wrong with needing a 'wildcard' mon if that's how you feel. However, it isn't truly a monotype run if you add a wildcard to the mix, in my opinion anyways. It's still your game though, and you play how you'd like. There's really no right or wrong way.
