Reborn: The De-laggening

At least, in part. Hopefully. Maybe. And probably not all by the next epsiode. But anyway.

As far as the lag goes, I'm caught between a rock and a hard place.

Two things cause it:

1) Large maps with lots of events

2) Connections between maps

I know a lot of people say that the water causes lag, but I promise that's not true. It looks like the water is causing lag because, at least in the start, around the Opal Ward, the connections between maps are around the water. Those connections, where it has two or more maps loaded at once, strain the system pretty well.

So, the dilemma is this:

If big maps cause lag, I can dice them up into small maps, but that requires more connections

If connections cause lag, then I can remove connections by putting things into bigger maps.

do you see the problem.

Okay, so we have this nasty little lose-lose paradigm stuck here, and I know people lag around Opal, around Obsidia AND North Obsidia, and especially between those two, and at Spinel Town.

And the common factor between those is that those are all big maps with connections.

But then I think, wait, the Beryl Ward fits that bill perfectly. And so does Apophyll. Some of Apophyll's maps are huge, whereas Beryl is a couple big maps with a lot of little pieces. There are a ton of connections in those areas.

So, if it were primarily the connections making people lag, I would expect them to lag in those areas too.

On the other hand, the Wasteland is one single massive map conglomerate of more events than you can shake a Stunky at and I don't recall hearing too many complaints about lag there, either.

But if big maps caused lag, I would.

SO, question for you guys:

To the people who lag in the Opal/Obsidia/Spinel areas, do any of you get lag in Beryl, Apophyll, or the Wasteland?

I get a mild level of lag in the Beryl Ward, with an seldom spike in the Wasteland; namely when I'm exploring the northern portion of the Wasteland. But, the lag is only really noticable if I'm looking for it.

As for Beryl, most of the lag occurrs around Beryl Bridge and the transition to the bridge. I have experienced absolutely no lag in Apophyll. There has been one or two instances of lag during the transition between the beach and the academy; but that is it. And, I believe that was simply caused by me using up a lot of my system resources for various other programs at the time as the instances ocurred at the same time.

None of the lag I have experienced in those areas, is really near the amount of lag that occurs in Opal and Obsidia; however.
