Manes
Replacers are a common type of game mod. Basically, what you're doing is changing one file the game uses for a different file with the same name. You see this often with, for example, graphic edits: I didn't like the way the original male sprites were shaded, especially considering the inconsistency with stock NPCs. So with that in mind, I tweaked the sprites little by little until I was happy with them. I hereby submit this to the community, and respectfully request Amethyst's consideration for use as the official sprites. While that happens, here you go. (I had posted the sprites in my intro thread, but you wouldn't look for sprite edits there, would you?) Male sprites ver 1.7.zip

Desper
looks worse imo
Manes
so you made his hair lighter.... I actually didn't use any colors other than what was already on the sprite. Also followed the NPC lighting scheme, which has highlights, the base and shadows. I COULD whip up a version that uses a darker highlight if enough people request it. (And by that, I mean more than three. :/) Also, have a gyazo of the bike:
Desper
It would have been fine if you kept the color the same. But I don't see why they needed to be changed in the first place; I have never seen a single complaint other than yours and never had any problem with them myself. Manes
Personal preference, to be honest. I don't like pillow shading, so I tweaked it.The dimensions of the back sprite's hair relative to the front bothered me too. It made the head look smaller in the back than in the front, even if that wasn't really intended. The good thing about RPG Maker engines is that the graphics are inherently easy to mod. In fact, I think this one in particular has the most moddable graphics I've seen so far in a non-Bethesda game.I can totally see why you'd disagree with me, though. Who designed the male character, and is he a self-insert? (Bit of a confession to make here...) I had some ulterior motives too... you see, the main character reminds me of the protagonist from Persona 3. I also happen to have a crush on him....yeah. Administrators Amethyst Posted July 11, 2013 Administrators Share Posted July 11, 2013 Both the male and female protagonists were designed by me, just using items from our Sprite Shop. There wasn't a whole lot to them, tbh, but they've gone over well. >> If you wanna mod the graphics for your own playthrough, awesome. If others want to use it, double awesome. For the time being I probably won't include it as the default graphics though.
Manes
Oh, okay. So who made the sprite shop? It'd be fair to credit the one who basically made the sprite parts, since, well, it's pretty much theirs... As for you not using it, that's fine. I guess it's not for everyone. Administrators Amethyst Posted July 12, 2013 Administrators Share Posted July 12, 2013 Well, I also did the sprite shop items.
Thirdbird
So if you wanted to, could you make your sprite a Magikarp?
Manes
So if you wanted to, could you make your sprite a Magikarp? Yeeeeeeeeep. You only have 4 frames to work with in RPG maker games, though, so you won't have anything too well-animated. If you plan to do this, let me know your progress so I can have a few cheap laughs. Well, I also did the sprite shop items. That's pretty cool. I wouldn't have that kind of patience. xD Edited July 12, 2013 by RisingManes
