How to Gastly...

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, as my question is not where to find Gastly, but how to get him once I've found him. I've been chasing him around this robot for nearly an hour and I can't interact with him or get him to stop going in circles. I'm just wondering if there is some sort of trick I am missing that will cause him to change his path and allow me to corner him?

I watched Lostelle and Dai Laughing's videos, so all I've been doing is running up and down one side of the robot. I just wasn't sure if there was more to it that I wasn't getting from the videos...

it takes some trys but you basically got keep running in one directio nthen make a sudden turn and run i nthe opposite direction and with luck you will bump into the gastly in time to interact with it
