Godiva... Didn't have much in the way of words anymore. As much as she wanted to bid Siegmund a proper farewell, there was also the issue of his past actions and the present situation. Somehow the situation kept getting more and more chaotic, next she might as well expect her uncle to burst through the walls ready to do battle with everyone in sight. But, as intimidating as the moniker of "Icons of Sin" was... Godiva wasn't about to back down now. Virtuous still seemed to need her helping hand.

The one on the left had their bow already drawn, firing a pair of arrows that arced right over Lysander... showing a very clumsy shot as they fall at Lizaveta's sides and allow her to counterattack with dark magic.

As the Spies attacked, the Priests were nervous enough to try and chant magic into their staves and aid their enemies— made nervous by the murders of the Fighters and the General. A spell of Poison attempted to descend down on Lizaveta and Mim... but both manage to resist the spells just fine.

As Death surveyed the area, his eyes focused on one person. One person that made his eyes light up with a fire that Mim and Lenore's continued poking of his buttons couldn't quite light until then.

 

"You. You think your humiliation of me was fucking funny, don't you? You may not have a face, but I will never forget slights against me. Famine! Kill him!"

 

"Ooooh, bossman maaad. Yeah, I remember you busting him up real good! Nothing personal, just gotta kill you now.

 

Famine smirked underneath his bandana as he conjured a small moon between his hands. He thrust his hands forward— the moon's rays shining onto him. Ferdiad manages to repel the light with his armor the first time, but the second time pushes right past.

“I'm not quite as near-sighted as our leader." As she spoke, she gripped a couple of arrows in both hands and set them ablaze. "Let me show you how." She hurled the arrows into the air, before they barreled straight down at Godiva.

Godiva's horse goes into a panic, whinnying loudly and bucking wildly, giving Godiva some trouble staying on. It's just enough to reveal Lucy, but only to a close-up eye such as War. Lucy gasped, but War merely looked her over.

 

“...I had a feeling. Hm. Still skittish, and looking a bit pale as well." War's head casually turned to Mim. "You. Is she getting enough sleep? Exercise? Positive reinforcement of her talents? Talk quickly and preferably quietly."

 

War's words didn't have long before Death set his sights on Mim. He coldly stared her down, before letting the arrow fly at her...

...before the arrow completely redirects its target at Shin. Who had, fortunately, managed to take a potshot at Death before the arrow gets him right in the neck.

Baldur finally seemed to regain his senses. Rising to his feet more, he is once again momentarily stunned seeing the state of Shin. Though it was only for mere moments, he can't keep freezing up like this. His at the sight of Death his thoughts went to Lucy and to make sure she's kept safe. She can't be kept in the back either, there's some reinforcements coming from behind them too. Then an idea hit him as his eyes locked onto a nearby set of pillars. He stumbled over his own feet for a bit in his rush but quickly regained his footing. Forming runic symbols by the pillars and underneath the light mage's feet he summoned her to his side. "For now use these pillars as cover. We'll handle Death."

At first wordless, Lizaveta stopped by Shin for a moment - not turning her back to Death, as that would be stupid, but crouching over Shin as Death fought with Justine. She put a hand on his shoulder for a moment.

"Hold on for a moment. It will be okay. We're going to deal with him."

 

Then she stood up and moved towards Death.

"You won't get away with that this time. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a way out - but, mm... even if we don't kill you... maybe we can still make it hurt, huh? Put enough wounds in you that you'll be remembering us wherever you go."

"W-wait! No- d-don't!"

 

Lucy immediately protested, but her teleportation was inevitable. She did her best to hide from Death behind a pillar, cowering in fear. War looked over at Baldur and Lucy with a very disapproving look before she got back to the battle. Death, however...

 

"Who the hell...? Oh, fuck off, don't waste my time."

 

Death was prepared for combat the second Justine entered the fray. His cold gaze looked down at her from atop his throne— she's fast, too fast for him as she's able to plunge her sword into Death's shoulder. It stabs decently deep, deep enough to throw off his aim and cause him to fire at the pillar next to Lucy— shattering it with a loud bang proceeding to make Lucy go into a slight fetal position.

That was all she had time for. She knew that she shouldn't like War. She was worse than most of the people they faced in a lot of ways. But even still... The care she showed for Lucy was a small patch of light in the darkness of their group. But for now, something needed to be done.

Death vanished in a cloud of dark smoke.

 

"Oops. Shoulda let him finish. Uh... Hey!"Famine waved to Mim's direction rather enthusiastically atop his horse. "One day he's gonna break you and it's gonna like, suck. Like really bad... Anyways! I'm sure he'll be really happy if he learns we killed them, right War?"

 

“...Not any longer. You know he won't be satisfied with that anymore." War's disappointed look towards Baldur was now aimed towards the ground.

 

"Oh, okay! Then we'll beat them up really bad, say we didn't get around to killing them and that he can just kill them in their sleep! Perfect! Oh, hey, Pestilence, it's okay to come out now! You know he's gonna find out one of these days, right?"

 

Lucy didn't respond outside of teary eyes, peeking around her pillar while shaking as if she were in the coldest regions of Ria.

 

"...I... I didn't get to... I'm a... c-coward..."

 

"You kidding me? He would have gone insane! Of course, not at you, but at everyone in this general vicinity. Probably me too because he'd probably think I had something to do with it. Can you imagine? Me? A lying, conniving backstabber who would let his precious sister escape? Imagine..."

 

War looked at Famine with a glare. A sigh escaped his bandana as his vision darkened. He reached up to his face, unraveled the bright cloth and let it fall to the floor next to his horse.

 

“Fuck it. Death can go shove that brand new rod up his ass even farther up there. I am going to enjoy being the one to kill as many of you as possible."

 

War's eyes narrowed at Famine, her glare now turning into something more of confusion than anything else. Regardless, she kept her stance steady and attentive despite the lack of a leader. Lucy, in the meantime, decided that hiding behind the pillar was the most productive course of action for the time being.

Mim twirled her lance around, slamming it down into the holder on her back, replacing it in her hand with an arrow. Idly spinning it, she stared at Famine for a long second, before shaking her head.

 

"Yknow, I had all these thoughts about your group at one time. But here's the thing. There's no poison in the world that can't be cured. I fully believe that. And I'm the kind of person who's out here to find cures. And honestly? Looking at your group? All I can see is one big poison that needs to be cured before it kills our world. And it just so happens I have the cure right here in my hand. And don't worry. Unlike you, I make my cures swift and painless."

All Baldur did in repose to the 3 glares sent in his directions was simply click his tongue. Turning his attention towards Famine, standing tall and looking down (well figuratively at least) to the man on the horse. "Pardon me but I can't quite hear you. Did you loose your voice recently? Maybe got into a heated argument with Death? Clearly it couldn't be that a half-assed scratch permanently scared your voice. That'd just be ridiculous and humiliating."

Famine managed a small chortle despite his bored tone— clapping a few times in response to Mim.

 

“Heh. Heheh. Not bad. Death likes to shit on your smack talk, but that's a pretty good heroic speech. I like it, I like it." He only managed a half-glance at Baldur. "That sucked ass, though. You need smack talk lessons. That was about as much effort as if I said 'hey you're welcome for the dead parents'. Also you're welcome for the dead parents. Or whoever I killed that left you very sad and easy to glare at. Parents usually make for the easiest tragic backstories, though."

"Crap, crap crap why does everyone use fire?!" Godiva asked as she tried to get rid of the flames, only managing to further spread them to her arms before ultimately letting out a groan and temporarily ignore it. She had plenty of coat, the fire wasn't that bad, she'd waste more time focusing on it rather than the fight itself.

 

Godiva moves to K2, heal Lizaveta to pick her back up.

Lucy moves to J2 and performs for Godiva and Mim.

Kane goes to M3 and Plague Darts Spy C because he can.

“It's all one can do in this damn cold," War idly added in response to Godiva, still more concerned with Famine's sudden change of demeanor and how the battle would turn.

With the Icons of Sin now in the picture, it looks like Kane had made good on his promise after all. Had he known that this fortress would house them, or lure them in?

 

But these would be thoughts a later Ferdiad would sit on; any regret he might have felt for doubting Virtuous' leader is eclipsed easily by the sight of the four — the four, each of them the colors of this burning that wouldn't subside. Not until they'd met their end; not until he, and Ceda, and all the others who'd lost at their hands were vindicated! Death, who had sneered at him, whose injuries Ferdiad hoped from last time still pained him, was gone. Gone, but not dead; still, he couldn't get to him in time. A guttural shout of frustration tears out of him, and grip tightens on the hilt of his blade.

"Jesus, don't these people have any basic understanding of politics? Even if they don't know shit about the Marks..." Arthur noticed the dust on the cover, brushing it off. "...'The Manifesto of the Peasantry'? Really? Who the hell reads this shit?"
