Fire Emblem On The Forums: Excalibur Infernus [IC]

The frigid talons of a thing called death circled the Witch in the world betwixt. She'd been in this state plenty before, that where life and death intersected. She'd come here of her own volition plenty, as the strangest places often held the answers that one sought. It also happened to be the realm where visions could easily manifest, glimpses of the world yet to pass. It was here on one storm choked night that Brinda had found the lead that ended with her... well in this situation. She supposed it was only fitting that such could lead here. She'd need to exercise more caution in the future, as little as she cared to continue in this world, she didn't care to throw her remaining time away so... wastefully. She may as well use the time Mother Wild had given her in this world for some end. What that end be, even Brinda didn't know however. The darkness grew tiresome, she'd been here longer than expected. Perhaps she should pass the time with a spot of scrying? She weaved the spell, focusing her intent on a single object... a person in this case.

She had followed the second holder of  sacred sword but there was a first. A daring white fox, an icy vixen, that first bloodied her blade with the sin of patricide. Perhaps she had for good reason to commit such, it wasn't for a witch that was never human to judge. The witch cared little for human morality and values. The Princess simply interested her for other reasons, the most of which was what was the truth of her ascension. Was it truly for the betterment of the people, or was she the father she'd slain once again? Brinda focused every fiber of her magic lens seeking her, trying to see what this Rosanne was currently tied up in. However before she could find anything she found herself staring up into the eyes of some healer, the dreary sky wrapping her in a cloth of blue. "Hmmm, a shame. l was having such pleasant dreams."

Brinda snapped her fingers, a sudden thrum of energy releasing into the air as she did so. Magic solely for the sake of returning her to her feet spent in a moment. She seemed to show off further still as she hovered slightly above the ground her bare feet no longer touching the earth. She leaned back falling into some invisible force that held her as if lounging within a throne of some sort or another. Her chin in her left hand and her right leg crossed over, she gave off quite the ominous aura despite how nonchalant she was carrying herself currently. "l suppose now's not the time for dreams however. This is a battlefield after all." 

Brinda lethargically lifted her hand repeating the motions to her prior spell but her chant different from the last. "Great spirits of the earth, movers of soil, tenders of graves. l beseech thee, use thine power to lay low but not to end life. Restrain, hold, teach them a lesson they shalt not soon forget!"

Owena blinks and looks over to the side as Brinda...decides to be all dramatic within seconds of being healed up again. Well...so long as she's living her best life, she supposes. At any rate, it's as good an indicator as any that she's feeling none the worse for wear, and it can be a valuable thing to keep your cool when things suddenly go pear-shaped for you.

"Good to see you're up and at 'em again, Brinda. I'd say we have our work cut out for us, but I think we can take them."

She watches as the witch specifically tries not to kill them--which definitely isn't a bad impulse to have. She'd like to be able to avoid killing them too if she could at all help it; even now as a horde of them were charging her down, just from their appearance they seemed to be more horribly sick people than some Evil Menace^TM to be destroyed. Still, though...

"So what's our plan after we're done? While we're not trying to kill them, I mean. Is there a place around we can hold them? Do we take them back to the Curselands?" She pauses for a few seconds to take a swing at the axeman before adding, "Not to sound hostile to the idea, if I came off like that. I just mean...I don't know, is all."

 

Owena takes a swing at Fighter D. Maybe try not to kill, if that's our new gameplan.

Wasting no more time on astonishment at the apparent existence of a flying horse, Galen follows Arissell’s lead and brings his sword to bear upon the bowman.

An intangible chill runs down her spine as she watches the fight progress, waiting for a good opening to jump in and help. But the sense of unease isn't about the enemies in front of them. Where...? She looks around, grip tightening on the lance, half expecting something to jump out at her from the marshes. Beneath her, Iba stamps his hooves in the muddy ground as though to ask what she's nervous about. 

 

"I don't know... it's... hmm."

 

But the gut feeling is strong, and she's never been one to doubt her intuition. It's usually led her right. Her gaze settles on the old, run-down house a ways behind her. Is it coming from there? Ugh, spooky.

 

"Oh man... really not okay with this. Really, really not." Did she have to go check that out herself? "Just my luck, I'm going to end up rushed by a bunch of flesh-eating spiders or who knows what..." she mutters to herself as she lifts into flight again and moves to investigate.

As Juliett swoops down to the front of the house she notices something almost glimmer in a side room. Approaching the shimmer she finds herself in what seems to be bedroom for a kid in their early teens. It seems the sparkle in emanating from underneath a pile of rubble. Moving the broken planks of wood and stone she finds a chest surprisingly in good shape, well except for the lock. The rubble must have smashed the thing, luckily the box seems to still be openable. Inside she finds a few books that seem to teach the elementary use of anima magic. The ones at the top seem significantly worse for wear and nature has not been nice to them and most of the pages are ruined beyond legibility. There's a book in the middle of the pile that seems to have manage to be kept in prime condition even after how many years this house have been destroyed. It has a red cover with the image of a flame inscribed on the cover. It's wrapped in a white ribbon which ties into a bow in the center of the cover. There's a small note but all the writing has smeared off except for a couple of letters. "Ha$py %ir@hd?y"

Casting a look back at the dilapidated house, she wonders how long it'd been here, how it'd gotten abandoned... and what had happened to it. The stories a place like this must have.

 

"Well, that's better than being ambushed. I'll take it. Time to get the fuck out of here."

 

"Nicolos!" She flies back over to where the battle's taking place, alighting next to their leader. If nothing else, it's part of her job to keep him alive now, she guesses. "Hop on. Oh, I found a Fire tome in the house back there. What do you want me to do with it?"

"Uh... a... Fire tome?" His surprise catches her off guard and makes her a bit concerned. That house had been really shifty. "Is there something wrong with that?"

Nicolos kept.. silent and still... for a breif moment...

 

"I'm sure Arissell could make use of that tome. With Infernus, I don't have much use for it a-... I don't have much use for such a simple tome." Nicolos corrected himself.

[Blasbo]

Turning her head, Owena notices Juliett flying in with Nicolos in tow. She thinks she might have it in hand right now, but...well, it's not like she's gonna get pissed at anyone for coming to help out. And the fact that he's over here right now means that there's probably nobody else coming from the west flank anyways.

"C'mon, up you get, Nicolos. We've got a few more to deal with before the villagers are safe, but I'm pretty sure we can take them," She says as she, more or less, lifts Nicolos off of the pegasus' back and places him down in front of her. "Juliett, um...you might want to watch the archer."

Arissell to N11, throw some Wind at the Archer.

After that, Owena to M12, take Nicolos off of Juliett's hands and drop him off at M13.

Out from the tree line a heavily afflicted cursed emerges. It's muscle mass is at least three times as normal and it sends small tremors into the earth with each step. It radiates with so much dark energy the small wisps of purple float off from it and quickly dissipate into the air. It takes big, heavy and moist breaths as it approaches.

As Owena helps Nicolos dismount, Iba gives his wings a shake and tosses his head, flapping and already lifting back up into the air at the sound of the remaining Cursed approaching. "Okay, okay! I'm going, calm down!"

Glancing at the now-still body of the Cursed on the ground, Juliett slightly lifts her eyebrows in a somewhat deadpan expression. Well, he wasn't wrong. Those claws do look pretty nasty. Thinking about it too long makes her stomach churn, so she decides that putting her attention back on the fight would be a better idea.

Nicolos holds his blazing golden blade up and it begins to pulse with red energy,  "I will not allow you to cause harm to anyone else!" He charges forward, maneuvering through the cursed's flailing arms before leaping into the air. He turn Infernus in his arms to where the tip of the blade pointed down towards the final foe. He pierced his blade through its chest and a large fiery explosion erupted from it. Once the smoke cleared, the cursed was naught but ash and there was a large black circle of singed ground and plant life around the Captain. Breathing heavily, leaning on his Blade which is now pierced into the ground. He wipes the sweat from his forehead before pulling Infernus from the charred ground and places it on his back once more.

 

"Tha- That should be the last of them."

"So, how is everyone holding up? I think everyone did quite excellently for our first battle! I can say with full confidence that this team is now official! Remind me when we get back to town that the first round of drinks are on me." He gives a big to everyone with a thumbs up following after. Realizing what he just did he got flustered and quick put his hand down.  "A-anyways we'll rest here for the night then head over to that city where Lancelot was spotted in the morning. Once again, everyone did a great job!"

Well...let's be honest, she wasn't sure Nicolos had to add the whole flourish of 'filthy, diseased claws'. But, as long as she was being honest, she couldn't help but also note that their opponents for the day were generally...let's say, unhygienic. It's fairly plausible it was something of a faux pas more than genuine malice, so...hm. Well, Galen and Brinda probably knew more than her about the issue, so she'll keep an eye out for their opinions before making a final judgement on that.

 

The battle's over now, and she's happy that the majority of them could come to a consensus on showing mercy when possible towards the Cursed. But mainly, she's tired--so, planting her hatchet firmly in the ground and pulling her hood down, she sits herself down up against the nearest tree.

"Drinks, huh...? Yeah, I could probably go for one or two, once this quits stinging...punches, I can take. Magic, though, that shit stings. I'll try and hold you to that, though, Nicolos. Where are we gonna drop off the Cursed that are still kicking?"

Galen makes his way forward from behind Owena, sword held ready to assist them in taking down their final opponent—

 

—and then Nicolos apparently decides that just incinerating the damn thing would just be easier, in a flash of heat and light that nearly singed some of the mage’s hair off. Galen barely raised his arm in time to shield himself from the blast, and it was several moments before he lowered it.

 

...Ah. Their first true battle as a team was already over, and he had felt more like a bystander than a participant for its duration. Damn it. Feelings of inadequacy, among several other very nasty things, rose up in his throat like bile before he swallowed them away. Now was hardly the time for self-pity.

 

Or loathing.

 

“I must say, Sir Nicolos,” he begins wryly, speaking to distract himself from his own emotions, “I admire your efforts to stay your blade from these Cursed. Why, I think there were even one or two you didn’t set on fire today!”

 

He finds himself standing next to the dragonborn without really realizing it, continuing:

 

“...Of course, I’m only joking. I understand that it can be difficult if one is not used to doing so. But perhaps, next time, you could do with a little less... exploding?”

 

Galen felt Nicolos could do with a little less of something else regarding the Cursed as well, but he thought better of bringing up the issue right then. Not in front of everyone else, at least.
