Mafia? What in the island is that? (Thanks to Dive)

Mafia is a social deduction game which requires analyzing, cooperation, and looking through lies. There are two main factions in a mafia game: the Uninformed Majority [Know here as the Spotless], who have to find others of their kind while hunting for the mafia, the Informed Minority [Known here as the Blackened, who have a private chat and plan there on how they should trick the town and whom they should kill.
 
At the beginning of the game, players receive a PM or a DM with their role and alignment.
 
There are two major phases in a Mafia game:
 
(1) The Day Phase – Typically lasting 48 hours , players use this opportunity to discuss about several things, which may include the outcome of the previous phases, behavior of players, and flow of the game; the ultimate goal in the day phase is for the Town players to find the Mafia slowly while Mafia players have to blend in carefully. Before the day ends, players must vote for a player whom they want to be eliminated on grounds of suspicion and the player receiving the most votes will be eliminated. 
 
(2) The Night Phase – Typically lasting 24 hours, the thread is considered “locked” at this point and players may not comment at all. Instead, players with night actions, special abilities related to their role, may use these to aid their faction. The Mafia also discusses in the private chat on whom to dispose of.
 
The game continues until one of the major factions attains their win condition

 

The Factions on the Island

The Blackened: They are randomly chosen among the participants of the island. They could be ANYONE (Except the third parties). This group wins when they equal or outnumber EVERYONE else on the island (Third parties ARE included)
The Spotless: You are just trying to - well - not die! Find the blackened and eliminate them! This group wins when all the blackened are dead. 
The Third Parties: Monokuma? Usami? You have your own win conditions...

Hajime Hinata 

As Hajime Hinata, the Ultimate… Wait, who are you again? You do not have any special actions. Yet.

 

Kazuichi Soda

As the Ultimate Mechanic, you can build anything you want! You can place a [trap] on a player each night. If that person dies, the person who killed them will also die, unless they are Monokuma or Usami (and their transformations), and unless they are protected in some way. The trap lasts until the END of the NEXT DAY, meaning if the trapped person is lynched the day after you trap them, the first person to vote for them will die as well. The trap becomes useless after that point regardless of whether or not it has activated.

 

Nekomaru Nidai 

As the Ultimate Team Manager, you can call on a player during night, gaining a private chat with them until they die. If that person dies, you may choose another. You may dissolve a chat at night (only during nights) to make a chat with someone else. The act of creating a chat counts as a visit.

 

Byakuya Togami?

As the Ultimate Affluent Progeny, you can’t be lynched unless everyone else agrees. You can still be killed at night however. Ridiculous! You’re the heir to the Togami family! 

 

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu

As the Ultimate Yakuza, you have your beloved loyal swordswoman beside you. As long as Peko is alive, you cannot die during the night phases. Once Peko dies, you become vulnerable to night kills.

Teruteru Hanamura 

As the Ultimate Chef, your food attracts people to you, no matter who they are. During Night phases, you may [lure] a player to you. If they decide to attempt to collect a Hope Shard, they will collect a Hope Shard from you instead of whoever they were originally going to. This will fail on Monokuma, Usami, and their transformations, and the player you lured will not be informed. Visiting the person you lured will not give you more hope shards, while the other person will still receive one more.

 

Gundham Tanaka 

As the Ultimate Breeder, You can easily use your animals to take things from people. You can [steal] EITHER a hope shard OR an item from a player each night, but this takes place before nightly hope shard visits. 

 

Nagito Komaeda

As the Ultimate Lucky Student, you put ALL your faith a little thing called chance. Night kills on you have a 70% chance of failing while lynches have a 40% chance of failing. Cross your fingers!

 

Chiaki Nanami 

As the Ultimate Gamer, there’s no doubt you can play this game well. Using your amazing insight, you can visit a CHARACTER each night to determine their alignment. For instance, you can choose Sonia, and learn whether she is blackened, spotless, or other. This will tell you nothing about that character’s player. 

 

Hiyoko Saionji 

You’re such an ultimate dancer! Each night, you may visit someone and dance for them. This will cause that person to collect one more hope shard than they would if they decide to try and obtain a hope shard, or are visited by someone collecting hope shards. 

Sonia Nevermind 

As the princess of Novoselic, you’re well versed in… well, everything. Using your Princess-ly charms, you can visit and learn the Character of a player at night. For instance, you can choose Bok and learn what character he is. This does not reveal anything about alignment unless Monokuma or Usami are chosen (They are known to be third parties). 

 

Akane Owari 

As the Ultimate Gymnast, your strength is very powerful, but you have to eat a lot to keep up with it. Every other night, you can [restrain] someone, protecting them AND yourself from all effects, beneficial or not. Keep in mind, this prevents both you and them from making any other actions, including collecting and distributing hope shards. This counts as a visit. However, you CANNOT prevent the person you restrain from making night kills.

 

Ibuki Mioda 

As the Ultimate Musician, you are energetic and loves to talk! During the night, the first person to visit you, no matter the reason why, will get their ear talked off and fail at their task. (Although this may seem protective, remember killing actions take place AFTER hope shard visits). 

 

Mikan Tsumiki 

As the Ultimate Nurse, you can visit someone at night, protecting them from any death causing actions

Mahiru Koizumi 

Each night, you can choose a player to visit, taking a picture and seeing which players they visited and which players visited them. This covers ONLY Hope Shard visits and not visits of other actions. 

Peko Pekoyama 

As the Ultimate Swordswoman, it is easy for you to sneak up behind someone and kill them. If you are spotless, you may attempt to kill someone each night. If you are blackened, you must carry out the factional kill while you are alive, however you will not appear on Mahiru’s snapshots.

You cannot die (under MOST circumstances). Each night, you may visit TWO people in order, but instead of collecting Hope Shards, you are in fact looking for Magical Miracle Girl Usami. If you find her, you will kill her and transform into something much more despair-inducing…

Magical Miracle Girl ☆ Usami

Special Mechanics!! (Like what the heck are hope shards?)

Special Mechanic #1: Hope Shards. 

Each night, the 16 participants may visit each other IN ADDITION TO THEIR USUAL ACTION to obtain a Hope Shard, regardless of which faction they are a part of. Conditions for collecting a Hope Shard is as follows:
The player has not already collected a hope shard from this person. (You may only collect from the same player ONCE)
The player is not trying to collect a Hope Shard from Monokuma or Usami or their transformations (They will not give out or collect shards)
The player, and the person you are collecting from are not blocked or prevented from giving/collecting shards in some other manner (roleblocks, etc.)
If two players are blackened, they will not collect an extra hope shard if they visit each other.
Both Spotless and Blackened players will be able to collect Hope Shards. If one of the Blackened is designated to perform the factional kill, they will be unable to collect a Hope Shard on that night regardless of who they visit.
Hope shard collection will occur BEFORE any death causing actions.
If two players attempt to collect a hope shard from each other in the same night, both of them will collect TWO hope shards instead of the usual one.

Special Mechanic #2: Secondary Abilities

Players have a transformational/secondary description. These transformations may be positive or negative. Transformational/secondary roles are only activated under specific circumstances. Characters may or may not lose their primary ability once their secondary ability activates. 
Nobody will know their own secondary role unless it is unlocked or revealed. If unlocked, only that person will learn their secondary description if it has not already been revealed. All players will be notified if a character transforms into or gains a secondary role via flavor text, but will not be notified about what that secondary role entails.
If a player dies, their secondary/transformation WILL be revealed, along with their character and alignment.
Each day, players may vote to reveal secondary abilities with [Reveal] *role name*. The top two roles voted will have their ability revealed… Maybe. 

 

The Shard Store

Skills you can buy are as follows, and can be bought any time, as long as you have enough shards:

 

2 shards: Menacing Focus: You can use this on a player during a night phase to learn which character they are. This does NOT reveal alignment. Can be used once.
3 shards: Maneuver: You can use this to avoid night kills, but this is only active for the night you buy it on. As such, this can only be bought at night.
4 shards: Cheat Code: Use this during the day phase, and you will be able to cast your vote in secret. If you vote on the forums as well, ONLY your secret vote will count
4 shards: Infinity Unlimited Flame: HAHAHAHA! If you buy this, you MUST use this during the next day phase (or on the day phase you buy it) to lower somebody’s vote weight to 0. If you do not choose someone, this will be automatically used on you.
5 shards: Excellent Blade: You can use this at night in an attempt to kill a player OR character. For instance [kill] Bok or [kill] Hajime Hinata are both viable options for this skill. Can be used ONCE
5 shards: Neural Liberation: This is the ultimate knowledge. Use this on any player at ANY time (yes, even during the day) to learn BOTH their character and their alignment. Can be used ONCE

Finally, a note on spoilers: Because of the way the blackened in this mafia game are chosen, and the way mafia works, this will NOT reveal blackened or spoil cases in the ACTUAL DR2 game. HOWEVER, secondary transformations or role descriptions MAY hint at or allude to plot points throughout the game. You have been warned.

Hajime shakes his head. This made no sense. Who was doing this?

But despair begins brewing among them.

Music is played, food is cooked, most of the students spending time with each other, trying to figure a way out.

But some, it seems, are all too content being on their own.

A photo is snapped, two animals slink around, a girl trips, someone disappears.

And someone screams.

Ding dong, Bing bong… A body has been discovered!

The students gather in Jabberwock park…

 

Kiet is dead. He was Mikan Tsumiki, a spotless.
