gilam
I want to open a discussion about the start of the game when [good] mon's are rar. i admite i go for the classic mon's budew, kricketot, trubbish, mareep, growlithe. do u have classic mon's that u take evrey time in the start off the game? do u have mon's for one time use? like boss fight or gym? this is the place to share how u guy's love to start reborn. in what badge u think the game start to give a lot of options [mon's, move's set, iteme's]. what mon's u think are underrated and why.
ShogokiX
Hmmm....Butterfree^^ Easily one of the most underestimated early game Pokémon that can carry you all the way through the game. While not very useful in Reborns first arena due to the electric type, it has the advantage of a very nice move set and some very strong abilities. And as for the first Arena....Moxy Mightyena all the way^^ As for the question where the game starts to give you a lot of options i'd say that would be after you get the second badge. I mean, Reborn already does a good job giving you some Pokémon useful in the upcoming arena fights somewhere in the wilds around the locations close to the arena. But once you enter the Jasper and Beryl Wards, and of course the forests that are next to them, you really get a wide variety of Pokémon for every situation. By the time you challenge Corey it should be possible to own at least 1 Pokémon of every type.
Smooth
I’m surprised Swoobat isn’t even mention amongst your classic mons as easily a stage 1 early game that eliminates Obsidia storyline with air cutter. (Shreds the scraggy gang and does well against the first Pulse mon/ All the gym leaders up to shade) Whiles also mentioning its amazing arsenal against the early game as charge beam TM/calm mind later turns it into an absolute monster. (Amnesia works too) PLUS the hidden ability: Simple - doubles the number of stages of all stat changes And factoring it’s superiority in speed throughout the game honestly makes it too easy (Might as well add in the Coin Casino TM, also attract is an option) All the friendship needs are just around Obsidian ward so it shouldn’t be too long to obtained Swoobat before the scraggy gang. ( Considering it’s medium fast growth of exp + if you tried grinding levels on woobat before. I actually evolved my woobat before Julia from grinding low leveled mons for Spd ev) Also ShogokiX, no mentioning of Snarl Mightyena? !!yxnT
As for your second question, I always use escavalier for radomus. One swords dance, then it's just x-scissor spam.

Also, in my first playthroughs, Patchirisu. If you're lucky you can get volt absorb, easing Julia's gym, and it can carry you for a good time (mine did up to the 60s) with things like Bide or Super Fang. Conkeldurp
For the ("one-time-use") classic mons, for Julia: Lightning Rod - Goldeen! for Florina and onward up until Aya: Wormadame (steel cloak) after Aya the game starts to open up tremendously. The move relearner, many new Pokemon in Tanzan and Byxbysion. My designated powerhouse Darmanitan is obtainable just then and im not kidding when I tell you, this baby singlehandedly wins you battles all the way up to the end. Veterans Azeria Posted June 30, 2019 Veterans Share Posted June 30, 2019 Arcanine. Early, reliable, never falls off. Starters aside probably the best and only Fire type you'll ever need.

Conkeldurp
15 hours ago, gilam said: really? i use to pick mothim Wormadame is immune to poison and learns psybeam (2 poison gyms, 1 fighting gym) resists bug and ice and hits back with Quiver Dance boosted Mirror Shot (Shelly, Serra) Its great against Taka & ZEL, being able to resist all their stuff and set up on them. After Serra I usually drop, although this Bug-beast will put in the Work against Noel, Radomus and Luna aswell. Imo it is one of the most underrated Pokémon, Quiver Dance at level 20, Struggle bug, bug buzz and mirror shot STAB early on. Yeah.

Personally i still prefer Butterfree, since it can be very useful troughout the whole game, but Wormadame may be worth giving a shot on my next playtrough. Sirrobert
Butterfree has emotional power for me, because when I used to play Pokemon Yellow it was the only way my uncreative child brain could imagine beating Brock. The only other pokemon available up until that point were mostly Normal attackers, so everything was resisted. I think the only other option was Double Kick on Nidoran, which I didn't know about. ShogokiX
Correct me if i'm wrong, but couldn't you also catch a Mankey on Route 22? Thats the Route right next to Viridian City that leads to the Pokémon League Entrance. That should Brocks Pokémon pretty hard as well XD

It's also possible that I just didn't know Fighting was super effective against Rock. I was that age.
ShogokiX
I just looked it up and i guess i was right. Mankey has a 20% chance of appearing on Route 22 for Yellow Version only. It was Red Version where it was available at Route 5 for it's earliest encounter. As for Blue Version it was only available through trading. Lastly in the Fire Red and Leaf Green Versions Mankey was also available with a striking 45% chance on Route 22 on both of them. As for not knowing every type weakness or resistance at that time.....i guess we were all there at one point when we started playing Pokémon, so who can blame a beginner for being a beginner? wcv
Meowstic. I use her till Aya normally, and have been using her past that now that Ralts is further back. Beyond that, eh none really. I’m easily satisfied by the very best though, so typically the strongest Pokémon available make it in. Also yes, Manley was available at Viridian City in Yellow. It was one of the options added to make beating Brock possible. It’s wasn’t a good option since Nidoran could also be found there, and Butterfree’s confusion would wreck Brock without trying, but it was there.
