This has probably been talked about before, but honestly, I feel as if this is important enough to bring up.

Weather teams (more specifically, the weather starters) are becoming a serious problem in the current OU. It's starting to get to the point where if you don't run one, you basically lose (and if you don't you're at a HUGE disadvantage for not using one). Before somebody brings it up, yes, I know, Clear Skys OU does exist... But nobody even uses it, and I'm pretty sure I know why this is. Clear Skys isn't being used because A, you wouldn't even know Clear Skys was available until somebody experienced told you. B, the people that use weather teams (and let me tell you, this has to make up at least 60-70% or more of the highest rankings "at least") don't want to use clear skys because they know they basically win all the time with weather. C, nobody wants to use it because almost nobody uses it to begin with, why so bother?

It can actually be argued that Clear Skys is currently a useless addition because the good chunk of players that use weather teams in order to get really high up in rankings to begin with don't want to adapt. The way I think of this, I don't necessarily believe weather as a whole should be banned from standard matches (OU, UU, Etc). Instead, I believe the abilities Drought, Drizzle, Snow Warning, and Sand Stream should all be banned in standard matches or only allow them in ubers, and here is all my reasoning's as to why I believe this change would be beneficial rather than disruptive to the community:

  • We are allowing pokemon such as Excadrill and Chandelure w/ Shadow Tag in the default OU. If this is the case, it seems like a fair trade to eliminate weather starters as this keeps such pokemon from being too overpowered.
  • There's a reason why Swift Swim and Drizzle together is banned in the main stream matches... Because it's a fact that they're extremely overpowered and basically allow you to win all the time (unless you're against a REALLY good player). Just take a look at Ludicolo, it's nearly unstoppable unless you design specific pokemon just to counter it.
  • Excadrill in the sand, enough said.
  • Vaporeon with unlimited rain + hydration is also a disaster to its victim. Immunity to status conditions is no joke. Fully healing in 1 turn with rest screams overpowered.
  • There was nothing wrong with using the skills Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Hail, and Rain Dance + Weather Stones. Sure, it may of been a small inconvenience, but the reality of it is that great power should come with some sort of consequence. The fact that we can now just send out a pokemon and the weather is there forever (unless you have different weather or air-lock) makes weather overpowered because there is absolutely no consequence. As I said previously in a status message: (Who was the guy at Gamefreak one day that decided "You know what, Sunny Day, Rain Dance, Hail, Sandstorm, weather stones, that isn't enough. Why don't we just make unlimited instantaneous weather upon entry and make everything else useless? It's sure to break the meta-game!" )

I'd list more examples, but there's so many that I can't even remember it all. As my final statement, I want to say yes, I do admit that I am awfully annoyed at the fact that I'm mostly losing to these type of teams, I'm not afraid to hide this fact, especially because I'm far from the only one that thinks to same way. I hope this is considered and changed in the future.

Did you not see the topic closed a few days ago with the same problem? It had a poll in it in which you can vote but for now, I'm closing this topic. Auth will talk about what we will do with the tiers but from what we see nothing will be done until 6th gen comes out.
