Level Curve

So I spent almost 4 days getting decent Pokemon for the first gym and struggled to get them to just barely high enough levels to beat the first gym after multiple attempts.

now in just 2 days I've doubled the amount of pokemon and I have beaten both the 2nd and 3rd gym easily on the first try and all my pokemon are overleveled.

I get that Pokemon gain more Exp. in this game but why did it go from super hard to catch & train anything and super hard to beat the first gym or any trainers to doubled amount caught and super over leveled and easy gym leaders?

Is it just luck and it will start getting harder? or will it be this way throughout the rest of the game? or is it up and down depending on the areas?

It will get harder don't worry. Something to keep in mind is that in Reborn being overlevelled doesn't mean you are going to steamroll through the gym leaders and other trainers. The gym leaders have teams that take advantage of their field effects which makes their teams stronger. Also as far as the level curve goes from what I remember, I think after the psychic gym I had to do some grinding before taking on the next gym. Another thing to keep in mind is that not all the badges increase the level cap. That's just what I remember from my last playthrough, I don't think much changed, but I could be wrong.

good I was worried that I might have made the game too easy for myself.

It really depends on the individual, your playstyle, your team composition, etc. Gyms considered too hard by the majority may be easy for you and vice versa.

That's true I didn't think of that.

Well I just stopped using gift pokemon because I noticed they all had mostly high/perfect IVs and I know from other games that took the challenge out of the game.

I might set up some rules for myself almost like a Nuzlocke but not as restrictive.

Seems like you were just unlucky with the first gym but got a great Team + the power to beat the next ones. YOu will sure get Problems again, dont worry. Reborn will.... you know…. put his fist in you.

Just Keep in mind that u can give common candies if your Team gets too high and also use some Pokémon in Rotation to cover all types. If you really unlucky you can't beat a Trainer with your Team of 6 Pokémon on Level 90 which happened to me with hardy once 😄 But then you can beat him with a Team of weakies. Strategy, tactic, types, use of the field, Knowledge of your enemy…. there're so many Points that influence your playthrough but reborn wont be easy. really

Yeah only catch what i believe will give me the best chance and i make sure i have at least two of each typing so i can cover and i  use knowledge to my advantage but honestly ive been trying not to cause knowing typing like i do it defeats the fun and I end up sweeping.

Like the 2nd gym leader and my Roselia, set up 6 growths and mega drain on the first pokemon and the rest of them got 1 shot with magical leaf and i ended the battle with 3/4 health and no other pokemon used.

hopefully things get tougher though.

I also thought reborn was easy at first, but dont worry it will get harder

Heres a list of battles in Reborn that you likely will have trouble with if your not prepared, as many people also have trouble with these battles, so look foward to these battles if you want a challenge.

No spoilers really, I dont list the trainers names just what the battle is, like the gym type they are

- 1st and 2nd "Gauntlets"

-Fire Gym

-Ice Gym, its all RNG, you'll see

-Fairy Gym

-Water Gym

There are probably a lot that I missed

Also keep in mind, where you are in the game right now, the important Trainers Pokemons are not fully EV/IV Trained, they will be EV/IV trained as you get later in the game, I believe it starts in the Fire Gym where they are fully trained, that combined with everything else that goes on in that gym

Reborn used to be tougher, in earlier episodes (16, mostly). Every significant fight, used to throw at their pokemon at least 3 recovery items, even at the very beginning. They didn't do stupid mistakes before, like using a weaker move against you, when your pokemon is close to fainting; or pointlessly switching and switching while you keep attacking, until you kill them off. Gen 7 pokemon that replaced old leader team members, are generally easier to deal with (Julia's alola geodude is both underlevelled and puny, Shade's chandelure had been better than mimikyu, etc).

I really do hope that DARK difficulty sorts things out. I miss the regular wipeouts of old.

OK yeah this what I'm talking about. Like I remember the old Reborn back a few years ago being much harder and I have been just chucking it up as I have gotten better at Pokemon.

Idk, maybe its a bit of both, me getting better and newer versions aren't as tough,

or I'm just so used to the Reborn Style that I've adapted over the years.
