Arcanine - help for a reborn build

Hello pplz,

As the title states, i wanna add arcanine at my first team, and while he has access to a myriad of moves, i was wondering what build would be best for him in the long term, for reborn. In terms of game advancement, i just got Aya's badge.

I was thinking of making him a physical pokemon (so no spA attacks).

I will give you my idea and hoping to get some feedbacks from ya 🙂

Nature : Intimidate (justified wont come in play a looot of times and flash fire, well AI knows better to attack arcanine with a fire attack)

Moves:

extreme speed

flare blitz

close combat

crunch/outrage/thrash

PS: all the moves should be moves learnable from growlithe/arcanine in episode 18.2 ofc  so that means move from lvling, breed, obtainable TMs and obtainable tutor moves 😄

Thanks for your inputs.

I actually don't think full physical is the way to go. Arcanine works best in Doubles and even without EV investment, missing out on Heat Wave there is a huge mistake. Flare Blitz/Heat Wave/Close Combat for necessities, and then the last slot can be any of Thunder Fang, Crunch or Extreme Speed. If you do want to go full physical anyway, then Heat Wave can be replaced by Extreme Speed and the last slot becomes a choice of 2 moves.

As for items, Assault Vest once you get it is amazing. Boosting a bulky Pokemon's effective Defense and Special Defense by 50% immediately on switching in is super strong and lets you get away with some really, really dumb stuff. The only real alternatives are Leftovers and Charcoal/Flame Plate since everything else has too big a downside.

Depends on his purpose on the team.

I think not adding Morning Sun is a mistake.

As far as items, Leftovers, Charcoal, Life Orb are all good choices depending on the upcoming battle. 2 of those are quite late game, I know. Charcoal is available to you already, though. Metronome can also be a very solid choice.

Extreme Speed is really strong, priority moves are really good and allows for easy revenge kills,

Morning Sun for longevity.

I think that should be your core and then depending on the coming battle you can swap around the last 2 moves. You have access to Fang moves, Crunch, Bulldoze, Close Combat, all strong moves and provide coverage and it all depends on the rest of your team and what you're missing.

Swap between Flare Blitz and Heat Wave as your STAB depending on your fight.

Honestly one of the important parts here is adapting to your upcoming battle(s). Don't be afraid of changing out your moves!
