The Evil Normal Gym

Mew Fever

Recommended Posts

So I finally made it to Norman (the Normal Gym Leader) and hes so difficult!

After a few retries i finally beat his annoying Staraptor, but guess what the little prick brings out next? CLEFAIRY! It got up all 6 Cosmic Powers and my Gardevoir did 1 hp every time it hit. And guess what my scrafty decided to do with HJK? MISS! And that made me ragequit for a week.

But now that I have my senses back, how do I defeat him? My pokemon are around 50-51 level range.

Well level 50-51 are a little low when facing the 7th gym (considering that last gym leader`s froslass was at 50, my suggestion is to grind. Right where you face Noel there is a big lake, use the good rod to grind and farm Basculin. If you do not have the good rod it is in a house in spinel town, farm those for a bit and get those levels up and you should have now no problem taking out noel considering that you could get to his clefairy. Sorry if this is not much help but if you follow this you should be able to beat him good luck :)

Hey many, Crobat and his Confuse ray helped me a lot during this battle and use empoleon to switch in to brave birds like I did. Also, I had chip away on my Scrafty and took out his Clefable easy

Norman?Clefable?

But anyway train up a bit a few extra levels can do wonders, a lot of people prefer the basculin in the lake you can also train on the wild pokes in the grass by the lake if you don't want to deal with a ton of clicking and annoying mantykes. As for clefable like Bereft said try getting chip away. If that doesn't work you can always resort to using x item to power your attack to the point where you can kill clefable easilly or get a pokemon with toxic and wall it with empoleon.

Another point of advice, the Luvdisc in the lake sometimes carry Heart Scales so steal a dozen of those and swap some of your Pokemon's skills and keep enough on back-up in case you want to swap your skills back.

For example, get your Scraggy Chip Away for the battle...

Eh, all I needed was Lucario to help me against his lead. Steadfast for that flinch and I was running a swords dance set. I swords dance the first turn and then he flinched me the 2nd, both times using a multi turn attack, even though lucario resist all 3 of his multi turn attacks. Then it was just sweeping time. Strudy Magnezone was required for his Staraptor and Swellow, and Swellow has nothing for steel so I easily took out swellow and he got none of my pokemon with it.

As for Clefable, Lucario made sure that was dead before it got up even 1 cosmic power.

It's Sunny day when i battled him, basically the best weather to battle using my team,,

first i sent out

003.gif

ALBYRON

ability: Chlorophyll

Enducing Sleed powders all over Noels team,

but eventually it faints after missing one to his staraptor

next

006.gif

ATLASFLAME

ability: Solar power

Sweeps away anyone in front of him during sunny day,(except water types <_< )

of course i have

after a lot of trail and error with strategies, i ended up mainly using my Gyarados; it was raining the whole time and his Cinccino was paralyzed from my Ampharos' static, then i put out Cryogonal and(while it is holding light clay) put up a Reflect, since most of his team attacks physically, and it lasted 8 turns. Then i brought out Gyarados and got out 2 dragon dances and swept almost his whole team with Aqua Tail. Somehow, in the rain, with around 270 attack from the boosts, using a 90 power aqua tail +STAB, he could not instantly kill the Staraptor. It hung on by a few hp, then killed my gyarados and itself with a brave bird. Then i had my gallade against his clefable, which worked because gallade has great attack and special defense, but i think the game glitched because at one point my gallade had +6 attack(around 500 i believe) and used a Psycho Cut on his clefable, which at the time only had +1 defense.....and it did around 7-8% of clefable's hp. i was baffled, it should've instakilled it AND THEN SOME, and oddly i hit a critical later that did around 40%, with psycho cut again too; i couldn't make any sense of that.

Anyway i think you should try to take advantage of the weather, but what you really need as well is either a very very fast pokemon that can somehow instantly kill everything, or a really good physical tank. I normally use Ampharos as my physical wall(just use cotton guard once and an earthquake is worthless against him) but against Noel's pokemon i couldn't get the chance to do that because i could never attack first and i would barely survive the first attack(oh yea i had no recovery items of any kind, no potions or anything, i couldn't figure out how to get more after leaving the underground tunnels that first time, without going all the way back to obsidia) I don't think it's possible to get a steelix yet, but i think a gigalith couldve worked(i have one actually but stopped using it recently because it was so slow it often just died from special attacks before it could do much, so it is at lv45 right now) I suppose Empoleon could do the trick actually. Anything that would resist normal and flying and maybe psychic really.

You can always use levels to improve your speed. At level 55 with a moderately fast pokemon, you can outspeed hers except for her Staraptor/Swellow.

That said, I had pokemon at level 50-52 (and 1 at 53) and my Zebstrika and Breloom could out-speed her birds.

Noel did take a bit more strategy to deal with him but I found him not too tough :)

Porygon-Z gave me the most trouble. With my counter to his Normal type being my Fighting Breloom, Porygon-Z's psychic and speed would prevent me from using him. Had to use Curse and bait out his Hyper Potions (lol he swapped out after 2). I ended up with 2 pokemon left, which is nice. Makes it seem like an even-ish match until the end. His Swellow pulling out Facade caught me off guard though :(

  • 1 year later...

Not easy to beat Noel now since we don't have access to nice pokes early like lucario and others.. i'm struggling -.-
but I won't give up easily.. Lets see how dat annoying Clefable will do against my Hustle Durant -.- if that won't work then and Escavalier will definitely do..
For these birds grr so annoying, i'm hoping for my Ampharos to get something done.. If only Excadrill had more speed.
I'm thinking of bringing sandstorm and its double speed ability to terrorize all these birds.. then combining with swords dance it will be a killer...
sorry for reviving an old topic, i hope it isn't against the rules :P
