TwilightCoda
Hey there. I've downloaded the Mac version of Starlight, but I can't start the game. I get a pop-up that says "The application 'Game' can't be opened". Any help would be appreciated.
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 17, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 17, 2020 Okay I don't Mac so I'm a little vague on the details here and we're kind of just taking guesses Apparently Mac doesn't like opening files from "unidentified developers" so to help this you can try Moving the game to applications folder Open applications and right click on the game, select Open (as opposed to opening by double clicking) There should be a prompt that asks if you're very sure you want to open this file just in case you were having second thoughts since a moment before Say yes and hopefully it works??? This is very much a shot in the dark, but hoping it makes a difference because I've little information otherwise-- unless perhaps there's some kind of a More details thing? Just popping by to say all that you mentioned is how it should open! (albeit, I didn't need to move the game to Applications)
TwilightCoda
@AmethystNo dice. I know what you mean about the "unidentified Developers", but this is different. It's acting like the file is just not compatible. I've attached a screenshot.
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 18, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 18, 2020 oh dear..... i don't suppose it gives you any kind of information if you click on that question mark or anything...............?
TwilightCoda
@Amethyst It doesn't want to load anything for me. Here's another screenshot. My OS is Catalina v10.15.7, just so you know. And don't stress over this too much, I can wait for a fix.
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 19, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 19, 2020 ah. right. catalina. yeah, that is almost certainly the problem, and i don't know how feasible that is going to be for me to fix in the near future... i am very sorry. TwilightCoda
@AmethystIt's all good. Apple released a new OS last week, but I was waiting to upgrade so the bugs could get worked out. I'll download the update in the next few days and let you know how Starlight does.
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 20, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 20, 2020 @SilentAge hey okay so we got a chance to try it on a mac machine for ourselves, and allow me to be the first to say, i hate Apple so much we got it to work in a stupid way-- by putting it on a flash drive, and running it off of there, as opposed to running it on the computer's hard drive. in fact, after that it worked even on the hard drive. this is probably some kind of stupid security issue. idk. any chance you can try this dumb work around for us? we tested this on catalina too
TwilightCoda
@Amethyst That worked. I still had to right click and open it manually, but it seems to be running. I found this video on how to circumvent the "application ___ can't be opened" issue. Hopefully this sheds some light on what the underlying cause is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9TtoOJjGpU Let Cass know I said "thank you", as well.
Administrators Amethyst Posted November 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2020 oh, that's great for if anyone else has this issue. thanks so much, i hope the game itself runs smoothly for you!
