Shiny hunt

I was planning on doing a shiny hunt for all the pokemon after I finish the gyms and elite four (still far away from that I only beat the second gym and corey) but I wanted to know what I can do if there's only one pokemon and I already got it?

 

Let's say you can only get 1 numel and you save, not realizing that if you use the daycare breeder it only counts for the female. Do I need a ditto for it to count for the male or will the egg be a ditto egg?

 

(If the numel is male and the ditto is a female)

First know that Ditto can't be hatched from an egg.

To answer your question:

If you currently have a male Numel, you would have to simply breed it with a Ditto. Since Ditto is genderless, it can breed with either male or female Pokemon. The egg you get will always be of the other Pokemon. That's all. (Alternatively, you can also catch wild Numel later in the game)

Additionally some Pokemon can only be gotten once and can't be bred via Ditto, like Ditto itself, Type: Null, or any future Legendary/Mythical (so far only excluding Phione), so for those you would need to reset for the shiny the first time around if you want to have them all shiny.
