barath1989
Hi All Currently i am with 4 badges (defeated shade recently). I just need some suggestion on building my team further based on future gym leaders to be faced. Am not sure on how to go further in team building. i just don't want to rush through the story and finish it for the sake of it with an imbalanced team. it will affect severely in later stages of game as i have read the walk-through on the future gym leaders i gonna face Is it ok only to build team around only my main six pokemon full roster team covering wide varieties or is it always better to do some grinding and have back-ups? I currently follow the second method. Though i am taking time to grind am planning to build a variety team with all round reserves. I also have the habit of catching as many pokemon as i can and box them mostly and train them if required. i am not a speed runner. so doesn't matter if i go very slow. My big question is which six pokemon / (types) should i mainly concentrate on?. Being in my main team and which can be in reserves. Honestly i don't mind grinding the required time . battling in battle hall multiple times don't matter to me Current Team: Blaziken Drapion Ampharos The strategy i followed till now is Blaziken and ampharos are my mainstays and others i kept on rotating based on the gym i gonna face next. Drapion is currently there . I will showcase my boxes. "Trainees" box is the one i am planning to grind in future. "Battlesquad" box is the one which are already trained upto some extent and will be rotated based on circumstances. other boxes are just bunch of pokemons i caught and lying as it is untrained. Please suggest on which pokemons to invest time in grinding P.S. - Am NOT into trading. so no requests please. Thanks in advance.
Silkerin
Having a balanced team of 6 pokemon to cover the whole game is doable, even if training specific pokemon for specific fights might be more efficient. You could always bench the least useful for a specific gym and replace it with a more adapted one. Also I would suggest you to have a "backup" plan for some extremly difficult fight incoming (like the PULSE fights). Having a Murkrow with Perish song + Prankster for example will allow you to cheese those parts of the game (I hope the one you got had perish song as egg move...). Sharpedo with Focus Sash + Destrinity Bond is another possibility. On your current team members, the 3 of them are weak to ground. Consider adding a flying pokemon. Like Noivern, but hard to train Noibat to level 48 or Crobat (can replace Drapion) when you can get one. I would also suggest to use a Male Meowstic with Prankster. To be able to use light screen and/or reflect would be super useful for Blaziken who is a fantistic sweeper, but has difficulty to set up without protect. Mamoswine is a really good physical attacker, learning Earthquake naturally and you can also give it Ice Shard for a priority move (always useful to have at least one in your team) and has types who complement your team. You can aslo consider Ludicolo. Under rain, it is a very powerful special sweeper with again typing that complement your team. Also it resist ground and murders it with water and grass STAB. Just make sure you don't evolve Lotad before level 30 (or 36), for Giga Drain (or Energy Ball). And then Lombre until you get Hydro Pump lelel 44 (replace by Surf/Scald late game). And finally, I would consider training a more defensive pokemon. Someone like Toxapex can really help your team on some fights with Toxic / Recover / Haze / Scald by stalling forever the opponent, creepling physical attackers and haze is super useful to prevent opponent setting up. That's a mystery egg pokemon though so check how to get it and hope you'll get lucky (Mandibuzz can fill the same role, another mystery egg reward possible). Later in the game, Clefable wuld be a good wall/staller option as well. With a roster of 9-10 fully trained pokemon you will be able to have an answer to everything the game throws at you. Hope it will help, good luck.
Raghav
I would suggest you to bring a grass type mon like lombre/roserade for your ground weaknesses and a noivern could be pretty good once you climb up in mid 50s in levels other than that don't train him just now and once you come to the fighting gym I definitely recommend you to evolve that woobat cause it just sweeps that whole gym after 2-3 calm minds +psychic and air slash, evolve that guy as soon as possible by giving him pokesnax or attack reducing berries so I would say for now keep that woobat in your party as a flying type coverage and evolve it then later on replace it by noivern

Have to wait for end-game to catch another Lombre. Will try my luck with the Roselia/Roserade i have. Male meowstic has prankster ability. Defensive pokemon option yes have to look for it. That mystery egg hatched into a starly. :( Thanks a lot :)

You'll get a shiny stone in azurine island after beating kiki and you should evolve your roselia near lvl 40 imo

So not far from where you are. Or if you missed the puzzle there, you can buy it first time you go 7th street. Again long before the end game That will allow you to breed your males pokemon. And Male Meowstic with Prankster is the best you can have, give it reflect, light screen, psychic and mist (to change annoying fields effects, later I prefer Thunder Wave) and it can support your team. quite well
RebornFan7
From the mons you have on your PC, I suggest training up the nidoran for Adrienn and as a general good mon, and it can help against Charlotte and Hardy too. You can get a nidoran male from the game corner also if you'd like a bit more speed. A houndoom with flash fire will wall a significant part of Charlotte's team. It can help also against Titania if you get rid of her terrain. I agree with the other suggestions. I would also suggest to find a good water type. Sharpedo could help against Radomus and it can get the egg move destiny bond for the pulse bosses. Speaking of Randomus a great mon to use against him is escavalier, it has a ton of resistances and it can also help against mewtwo later on (yes you'll have to fight mewtwo). It is also good against Ciel's ace altaria and Noel's ace clefable, and against Adrienn.

Bennylava
First, it's always better to have a rotating team. It just is. Second, if you're wanting to take your time and enjoy the game, it sounds like it's your first run through, so why not just have a rotating roster based on which gym leader you're facing? It is entirely doable with a team of 6 pokemon. I personally recently finished a run with a randomly generated team of 5 + mystery egg, turned into Lycanroc, Lycanroc, Poliwrath, Lopunny (non-mega), Rotom (no form) and Gengar. Not a particularly balanced team.. just shows it's possible. If that's the route you want to take, then I suggest you look for mons with helpful abilities like Intimidate. Arcanine and/or Krookodile are strong users of that ability and will help you throughout the game. Krook will be available soon or you already have Arcanine. Intimidate coupled with strong sweepers with set-up will get you through the game without too big of a fuss. Bulk Up + Protect Blaziken alone will carry you for a long time. Add in another sweeper + a Screen or Aurora Veil setter and you're golden for the rest of the game. Alternatives are strategies like Trick Room, Swift Swim Rain Dance teams..
