NeoDarklight
lol nvm the entire basis of the system Not to mention that the US was opposed to the idea before the turn of the 20th century. Ironically, socializing healthcare would probably end most of the issues. Too bad we've still got too much prejudice against socialism. Maelstrom
It's not inherently evil but most of it just doesn't work for the us. And the military is already run similarly so I'm already leery of it. Most of the problems occur during the attempted implementation of the system. Manes
So here we have a people arguing against socialism, pointing fingers towards biased media, Republicans, Democrats, Socialists, cancer, sushi, and the fucking sky. But the fun thing is, that literally everyone is running in the dark. Informed decisions do not help if you have the same power as the village idiot. Gun restrictions backfire when guns were literally the only reason an entire country was able to become a, well, country. Freedom of speech and the right to a just trial are great things to strive for... combined, they're a disaster for justice. Democracy is just for show if you're fascist country (no, I'm not saying the US is). When your job relies on pleasing the audience that got you the job, you have to act as the persona you erected---whether you agree with him or not. If politicians must please a large audience to land their job, then it stands to reason they are no different than a pop culture celebrity. Please forgive my borderline schizophrenic ramblings. I wonder if anyone can shed some light into this plight with this spaghetti of ideas. Edited October 5, 2013 by RisingManes
NeoDarklight
You're on the right track, RisingManes, but another user was close to the core issue behind everything as well earlier- nobody's being bothered to look into the facts themselves. A lot of this comes from willful ignorance- everybody's just shutting out the facts that don't fit with their worldview, either intentionally or not, on their own or by allowing themselves to be manipulated. The Tea Party is basically this taken to an extreme, using the pretext of patriotism to mask it. Poorly. And as a result, they have been responsible for complicating some of the worst fuckups in recent history- not necessarily the cause of it all, but making things unnecessarily complicated. These complications, while not necessarily the cause of the shutdown, are definitely greatly contributing towards it. And most of the members are likely unaware of it themselves for the aforementioned reason. To be honest, I don't think things are gonna get better until some things are brought to light, and the people allowing this are made aware of their mistakes. And unfortunately, those sorts of people have a strong tendency to be either very prideful, or in the pockets of those who stand to gain something. And that just pisses me off.
